  • Billing Password - outside the States

I am trying to unlock my iPhone 4s so I can use it outside the States with another sim card - to do that, however, I need my billing password. I don't remember ever setting up a billing password, and I feel like it was set up by the Verizon worker who sold me my phone. I tried calling customer service and they asked me for my SSN - I don't have a SSN, what with not being a citizen of the States (I am a student on a visa.) I am also not in the States right now - which is why I need to unlock my iPhone in the first place, so I can't go to a Verizon store so they can retrieve my password.
Is there really no other way to work around this issue, such as to ask me different security questions, so I can find out my billing password?

So you are not a Verizon Customer? You will not get any unlock code from Verizon to use oversees unless you are a verified present customer. I see you claim you set up a Verizon account, yet did not give a social security number?
You had to give them some sort of identity verification. Sorry I have no idea what that would have been.
    Sorry I could not assist.
    Good Luck

  • How do I reinstall Lion since I downloaded the software online?

Would like to do a clean/erase install of lion to give my MBPro to a colleague at work. I purchased the Lion upgrade online so I don't believe I have any discs. Not sure how I would accomplish this? A first for me ...
    Any help???
    Thanks!

If you do that, your colleague will need to have your AppleID to reinstall. You can't transfer your Lion installer to him. Wipe the machine with the Snow Leopard disc, reinstall it, quit the setup parches, give it to his, along with all the previous discs that shipped with the machine, and let him use his AppleID to download and install Lion after setting it up with his username and password.

  • I got a macbook pro from late 2008, I've being experiencing a few problems and will like to erase everything and reinstall lion os and all the programs... who can I do this?

Hello everyone... I've being having trouble with my macbook pro... and someone suggested that I might wanna restore it to it's factory settings... I'm wondering if it's better just to erase it and reinstall all, the only problem is that I don't know how to do neither... any suggestions? thanks

Just a minor point.  iOS 5.0.1 would never be on a Mac.  You might want to fix that on your profile.
    Here you go.

  • I reinstalled Lion OS after removing the cache file as suggested before but I am still having same issue. Safari quits unexpectedly every time I try to open it.it

  • Does it cost extra to use wifi outside the states?

I am in germany and I'm using my families wlan to connect to the internet with my cell phone (send emails, check facebook etc). Now i was wondering if that is going to cost me any extra. My Plan is NATIONWIDE TALK & TEXT FS 700
Since it's wifi I figured I would not be charged for it.
Thanks in advance for any answeres.

If you are using your family's WLAN, then you will not be charged for it. Just make sure that it is the WLAN and not wireless cellular data that you are using.

  • IPhone outside the States

I bought an iPhone in Hong Kong and before to buy it i've tried inserting my Italian Simcard and making a call to Italy. The iPhone call was good and now i'm using the iPhone in Italy but putting my iPhone on the desk connected with iTunes i'v received an advise to update my iPhone all in italian language afetr that update my iPhone it doen't work anymore....
Calling the Apple support in Ireland they tell me that i can't use that iPhone in Italy with a different sim card not AT&T... but the question is that i've used my iPhone before the update with my Italian simcard....
how can i resolve my problem ?

    The magic word is "GOOGLE"
You have a hacked phone thats why it worked before with an italian Sim card, you should have not updated, you will not get much help here with a hacked phone so follow the magic word and do a search.

  • Sarafi won't start up. Hard drive crashed, reinstalled Lion from Safe Mode. and Safari still won'topen. I get an error message. There are no files in the extensions folder.

How do I clear the error in Safari? I've reinstalled Lion 3 times and the error won't clear.

Well Apple Suupport is still tops in every book.
The fix for my problem was so ridiculously simple, I can't beleived it worked.
But somehow the mouse install disk (stuck in the drive) was disrupting the start up. I was instructed to take the batteries out of the wireless mouse.
    IT WORKED.
Not sure if anyone that's had this similar problem is using wireless devices, but take the batteries out of them, use plug in devices to work around the problem, eject the CD and if you luck out like I did, it'll work
Thanks Apple my faith is renewed

  • How do I wipe new iMac (3/2012) H.Drive and reinstall Lion and the preinstalled application?

I just bought a 27" iMac (3/2012) and migrated the data from my Mac Pro into the new iMac.  It's now overloaded with the settings and files that I should have just put on an external drive, but I didn't. I want to erase everything and start with what OS and applications when I purchased it.  It is running Lion OS X Version 10.7.3.  Before the app store I understood how to do this when there was a recovery disc for the OS and Applications but need help on how to get it back to a clean new system (and I do not need to save any settings or information on the new imac).
    Really appreciate the help
    CJ

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • How do I reinstall Lion using Lion Recovery but bypassing the Apple ID?

Okay, so I've sorta had this done before at a Genius Bar on another coputer.
My friend (who has a MacBook, like me) bought Lion and gave me and my girlfriend (who has a MacBook Pro) a copy of it using my USB drive. My gf started having trouble with Lion so I took her Pro to the Apple Store. The guy said it was acting funny because the drivers on a Pro are a little different than those on a regular MacBook. The Apple Store employee showed me how to reinstall Lion so that all the drivers would match up with her computer.
We restarted the computer and held down Option to begin the Lion Recovery. From there we followed instructions to reinstall Lion from the cloud (Apple Servers, right?). When we got to the part where it asks for an Apple ID, well I don't remember exactly how he did it but he must have bypassed it somehow because I don't know my friend's Apple ID and I never asked him for it. From there it was super simple and everything went smoothly; Lion installed and started up like a whole new computer. Now I want to do all this at home with my laptop but I don't know how to bypass this. I can't ask my friend for his Apple ID and obviously mine won't work cuz I never bought Lion. Does anyone know how to bypass this?

We are not intending to help you. We are intending to shame you for stealing copyrighted software that only costs $19.99 (Mountain Lion is the only version now available). It seems no matter how cheap the price, people still want to steal it, and then ask for help right here on Apple's forum when they can't get it to work.
As for the Apple Store employee, he used his own Apple ID and should be fired for doing that, since he admitted to you that the trouble came from copying an installed system rather than buying the installer and installing it properly.

Have you tried booting from the Recovery HD to reinstall Lion?
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
You will need the Apple ID and password used to purchase Lion. If you have not purchased Lion, then you will need to purchase the Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard then update it to 10.6.8 to access the App Store where you can purchase and download Lion under your own Apple ID. Or you can purchase the Apple USB Lion installer flash drive at any local Apple retailer or the Online Store.

  • How can I create a Lion recovery disk when the original machine is down?

Any rapid help with this would be very appreciated - I have university work I need to complete tomorrow.
Machine is a 13" MacBook Pro with Bootcamp and windows 7 installed but the problem is on the Mac partition
    sequence of events:-
I was using MS Word for Mac when it crashed as being unable to write to the disk.
I went to utilities and ran a verify permissions - failures were found - one marked as not repairable
I ran repair permissions - it repaired all but one
I ran verify disk - it said it there was an error which could not be repaired - reformat the drive a restore from backup
I have full time machine backup so thought no problem
I shut down the machine and restarted using  Cmd R and went to disk utilities - no "format disk" option.
Browse on internet finds I have to delete the "Macintosh HD"  partition - re- create it and restore - ok
Find I cannot delete the partition because it cannot unmount the drive - because I have booted from the recovery partition which is on that drive - catch 22
Try to boot from original Snow Leopard disk - LION wont let you do it
Read some more on Internet and find I can boot from the Lion Revovery HD on a USB
Only way of getting it is to download it or create it using the machine I want to recover - but that machine won't boot in OS X ?...
Tried the Lion Internet install but it simply fails with an " error occurred please try again.
So can anyone tell me how I can get a recovery USB written in order to externally boot my Mac and recover it ??
    I have available:-
    Wifi
    USB drives
Time machine backup on external USB drive
    IPad
    windows available on the MacBook
Any help please - I am really desperate
    thanks

If you need to reinstall from scratch:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
• Reinstalling Lion OS to clear 2nd partition..

    I bought a used IMAC.
It has 2 other partitions taking up 800GB of the HD.
Disk Utility says it appears to be a Bootcamp partition and will not let me change it.
Bootcamp is giving me the error message "Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used. This startup disk is not supported"
    So,
Can I just reinstall the OS from Recovery and reformat the drive and get rid of the other partition in the process??
    Thanks,

  • How do I reinstall Lion?

I just installed lion but I had some problems. The thing is that I had a lot of applications in folders in the applications folder. And the ones in the folders are still there even though I have got new ones. For exampel are there now two iCal, Safari, Mail, App Store and so on. I can remove some by dragging it to the trash can, but not all of them dissappears when I empying it. So I'm thing about reinstall Lion so all of the duplicaties dissappears. So, how do I do?

    BackupLion Bootable 10.7  Disk
Purchaseand download Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatible Macrunning Snow Leopard.
Right click on “Mac OS X Lion”     installer and choose the option to “Show Package Contents.”
Inside the Contents folder that     appears you will find a SharedSupport folder and inside the     SharedSupport folder you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is     the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to     another folder like the Desktop.
Launch Disk Utility and click the     burn button.
Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to burn,     insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD, and wait for your new Lion Boot     Disc to come out toasty hot.
With this disc you can boot any Lion compatible Mac, and install10.7 just like you installed previous version of Mac OS X. You caneven use Disk Utility's Restore function to image your Lion boot discimage onto a external drive suitable for performing a clean installon a optical-drive-less MacBook Air, or Mac mini server. Cleaninstalls with Lion are easy once you find where Apple has hidden theboot disk.

  • Reinstall Lion problem: "Lion cannot be installed on this computer"

Hi, I just bought a new Mac Mini 2011 with Lion already installed on it. After use Time Machine to bring back my old data I found out the system wasn't working at the speed anyone would expect from a brand new product. As an example, it takes too long to login or to get the window to close one of the apps of the dock (it can take at least 5-6 seconds to appear...) Something that didn't even happen in my old MacBook.
For this reason I tried to reinstall Lion using the method described here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
I even tried with the external Usb drive option but when the utility tries to verify the system I get this error message: "Lion OS 10.7  cannot be installed on this computer".
I will call Apple Techincal Service of course, but in the meantime... anybody has any idea about why this is happening?
    Thanks!

    Try:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
