Reinstall LMS 3.2
Our server that is currently running LMS 3.2 is going to have to be rebuilt. That means that LMS 3.2 is going to be blown away. The only thing I am interested in saving is the Config Archive in RME. The LMS 3.2 was purchased as and upgrade from LMS 3.1 which was purchased as an upgrade from LMS 2.6. Will I have to install each version of LMS until I get to 3.2? TIA
What you Can do is running a fullbackup and copy the files off server.
When you have installed the same version you stop the deamonmanager and run the cli restore command.
In regards to installation you need two things.
1. The dvd or iso ( the installation media)
2. The licensefile
You can install the lms3.2 to start with and then All the different updates etc.
Allthough you need to know that that version is old and you should consider the latest version 4.2 aka Cisco Prime. Also consider the fact that you Can run it as an appliance by downloadning the ova file

LMS 3.1 on Solaris 10 - Reset all databases to initial state
Hi,
Is there a script that would clear all databases for LMS 3.1 on Solaris 10?
I imported do CS some devices from a CSV file I exported from an old LMS 2.5 server we had. I get some very strange results when I ask to sync archive for instance. The devices I manually added work fine, but the ones I imported get stuck and the job takes forever to finish (10 hours in some instances, for 230 devices).
I'd like to re-start from scratch without having to uninstall and reinstall LMS.
Thanks,
Jose Ribeiro

LMS 3.1: Can't start LMS Daemon on Window 2003
Hi,
Since customer has reboot, LMS daemons don't start.
We have this message :
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>net start crmdmgtd
The service is not responding to the control function.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2186.
I made a search on forum, I find a similar issue but with W2K8 we try the solution given (changing swap) but it doesn't resolved.
You will find screenshot.
Thanks,
ElisabethThis is what I thought. If you have a known good backup of LMS, you can restore that. Alternatively, you can reinstall LMS from scratch. You can also contact TAC, and they can walk you through trying to rebuild this file using the registry.

LMS 4.2.2 virtual appliance fresh install : DCR Server Error
Hello,
I have installed a new version of LMS 4.2 on virtual appliance (VMware 4.1) and I have an issue.
When I go the "Device Administration --> Manage Device State" I have the following error :
Server Error
Error
Error in communicating with DCR Server. For more details click here.
DCR Server may be down. Please start the DCR Server and then refresh the page.
Following the details link I have : (I did all the check written below).
DCR Server Error
The communication error may be due to the following reasons:
The DNS resolution does not match with server assigned IP Address. Workaround: DNS resolvable IP Address should be same as server IP Address. DHCP is enabled in the server. Workaround: DHCP should be disabled in the server. The server’s original IP Address may have changed. Workaround: Restart Cisco Prime Daemon Manager. CTM registry corruption has occurred due to rebooting the server without stopping the Cisco Prime Daemon Manager. Workaround: Delete the ctmregistry and ctmregistry.backup file in NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwhp/WEB-INF/LIB and then restart the Cisco Prime Daemon Manager. DCR Server and related process might be down. Workaround: Check the processes to make sure DCR Server is running, and restart it if not. The hostname change is not done by the hostnamechange.pl in LMS. Workaround: Hostname change should be done using NMSROOT/bin/hostnamechange.pl in LMS. LMS self signed certificate would have been expired. Workaround: Regenerate the certificate and restart the daemon manager.
I try to reinstall LMS 4.2 with or without patches 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 I always have the same problem. The DCR server process is running.

AbelHi Afroz!
Thanks for the quick reply!
1) I checked files - and indeed, the third link of the file was empty.
I restored contents of the same test server (as an attachment - original files) - now everything is working fine. Many thanks for your advice!
Because of what could this happen?
Current settings are as follows (i did not change them):
[lms42/root-ade etc]# ls -la /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/shared/lib/ctm_config.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 casuser casusers 1037 Jul 22 13:54 /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/shared/lib/ctm_config.txt
[lms42/root-ade etc]# ls -la /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwhp/WEB-INF/lib/ctm_config.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 casuser casusers 1084 Jul 22 13:54 /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwhp/WEB-INF/lib/ctm_config.txt
[lms42/root-ade etc]# ls -la /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/lib/ctm_config.txt
-rwxr-xr-x 1 casuser casusers 1104 Aug 20 12:07 /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/lib/ctm_config.txt
2) It was also noted that if address on the link "Inventory>Device Administration>Discovery>Schedule", then an error message appears:
Error
Error in getting the Discovery configuration information, please configure Standard / Custom Discovery and start the schedule.
- no any records for Discovery Schedule and not accessible button Add (for add new Discovery Jobs).

LMS 4.0.1 fails on updating switch sw (3750ME, 2960S)
Hi,
Newly installed LMS 4.0.1 fails when upgrading switch software. From sw distribution job logs, it looks like that LMS does not recognize switch properly. This happens with 3750 Metro and 2960S switches (at least those I've tested).
Attached file contains full job logs in zipped format. After looking into swim debug file, found this error:
[ Fri May 20 14:27:38 EEST 2011 ],ERROR,[RFRDOper:172.31.57.11],com.cisco.nm.xms.xdi.pkgs.LibSwim.common.Utility,loadProperties,545,Exception while reading the prop file java.io.FileNotFoundException: G:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx\MDC\tomcat\webapps\rme\WEB-INF\lib\pkgs\..\..\conf\swim\StackFlashes.properties (The system cannot find the file specified)
Could this be related to problem? Should I reinstall LMS or can this file (StackFlashes.properties) be copied from another installation???

LMS 3.2 common services error
Hi all,
I am facing a problem with my LMS 3.2 server. Suddenly I found there is no device reflecing in common services-> device management as well as RME also. I restarted LMS services, server multiple time, reseted casuser, demoted the server from ACS mode to local mode but no luck. However in "dcrcli" i can see all devices and exported all devices to CSV file.
After this I restored from a backup 3 month old when devices were reflecting under common server and RME device management. this also not resolved the problem.
I uninstalled LMS, performed system cleaning and reinstalled LMS 3.2. Then I imported the devices from CSV file i had. Now also the problem not got resolved . I can see devices in dcrcli but none of the device is reflecting under device management of any module.
In Dcmaservice.log i found the error" ERROR,[main],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.config.netshow.server.admin.NSCommandSetManager,getAllCommandSet,8661,Invalid MDF data file:D:/CSCOpx/lib/classpath/com/cisco/nm/cwcs/mdf/mdfdata.xml"
Hence I restored teh mdfdata.xml file from another server. However now i can see the following errors
1) in common service -> software center -> device updae -> device count are 0 for all module
2) no device is reflecting under any module
3) one progress i saw when tring to add any device if selecting device type, it is showing me the list of device type along with OID. before restoring mdfdata.xml it was also not comming.
Please help me to resolve this.Hi Martin,
Yes you are correct. I did the fresh installation. Imported all devices from the CSV file. However
1) none of these device is showing up in CS>device & credential >device manag
2) Also none of these device are showing up in any other module
3) In Dcrcli i can see al the devices are there
4) for testing I added few device manually. Those are also not showing in any module.
Just to inform all the modules are configured with Auto mode along with manage all devices in Auto Allocation settings under device management.
Thanks & Regards,

LMS 4.2.4 User Tracking Acquisitions Info almost empty
Hi ,
I reinstalled lms because I had problems on the server, they are now more than a month that the new use but I have trouble seeing the hosts connected to a switch or rather I see only a few. The settings are identical to the old man all by default, but with the old man had acquired many hosts. I suggested a way to make a little troubleshooting. I attach screensshot.
Thanks Emiliano
the old had over 5000 acquisitionsWhen a fresh installed LMS is working properly for all the modules, like Inventory, config, fault, performance etx, it could be something on this module which is responsible for Data collection.
It doesn't have much data which can be lossed, it can be easily taken as the first step to verify and rule out any possibilites of DB not working properly.
Also, you can share :
NMSROOT\campus\etc\cwsi\portsData.xml
NMSROOT\campus\etc\cwsi\RouterData.xml
NMSROOT\campus\etc\cwsi\vlanData.xml
These files have essential entries to be used by User tracking.

No LMS processes/License Server
I've performed a fresh install of LMS 3.2 on to Server 2008 R1.
No processes are showing and in CS, under products installed I see the message for all products installed "unable to retreive (license server is down)"
This appears to be a botched install, but I dont know what could've caused this. Any ideas?
See attached screenshotsI would recommend to uninstall LMS and install it again with the before mentioned prerequisites (check the registry keys!)
I see some ERROR messages in the log file belonging to the databases along with RMEPSUAdapter failures and I would not proceed with this installation. The savest way would be to reinstall LMS.

LMS 4.0 not starting after upgrade
I am running LMS 4.0 on Windows 2008 Server, recently changed from eval copy to licensed (for 750 devices). It had been running and working for several months. The license application worked fine and it ran a couple days that way.
I then downloaded the CiscoWorks_LMS_4.0.x_WIN2K8_R2.exe patch so that I could upgrade the server OS to Windows Server 2008 R2. Per the instructions in the patch readme I first proceeded to upgrade my server to 2008 R2. Then I installed the patch (patch only).
After doing this (and restarting the server) CiscoWorks daemons will no longer start. I have confirmed my paging file size (swap) is set to start at 8192 MB (8 GB) as required. I tried manuallly starting (net start crmdmgtd) without sucess. I see the initial dmgt_start_lock lock file in C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\objects\dmgt\ready but none of the other process lock files ever pop in and out as they would normally and the processes (and thus CiscoWorks server) never start.
Any suggestions? The "patch" is as far as I know some sort of launcher for the installation setup.exe.
When I run the "patch" al I get is the question where my installer is, so I can install LMS.
I have not yet tried to run this on an existing LMS installation. Nor upgrading the OS on an LMS installation :-)
Does the "patch" have a different behavior when LMS is already installed?
If not, I suggest to use the cleansystem.exe in the CSCOpx\bin to remove the current install, reinstall use the patch to launch the installer and restore a backup

Error while trying to open RME home in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2
Dear friends,
I get the following error while trying to open RME home.
"Error occurred while fetching Out-of-Sync count"
Here's the exact error message:
HOME0004: Error occurred while fetching Out-of-Sync count. Check RMEHome.log for more details.
Pls advise.
Thanks a lot
GautamDear Jason,
Now, i dont get this error and the home page opens but i get the following message in red text for some portions of RME:
You are not authorized to view the detailsI also tried creating another user with full privileges and used his login but still i see the same results.I had installed LMS the first time in non-ACS mode and the second time i re-installed on top of the previous installation again because i got some Apache errors. I dont think that the reinstall prompted me for the ACS mode but from what i see, it is local and not ACS.Do you think that i should try to reinstall again Ciscoworks? Is reinstall better or uninstall and a subsequent fresh install? -

Issue : The logs is generating only for 10 days and post that im not able to see the logs. I have not done any config changes. The only change i have done is i have completely reinstalled the LMS. i did multiple troubleshoot but not able to resolve this isse. It would be great If any some one is able to help me in this isse. Thanks.
Regards,
JulietDear Vinod
Thanks for ur response and the problem has been resolved.
The purge policy was set to 60 days only .The problem in reports viewing setting.
Syslog folder under LMS would store syslog reports of both the device as well as applications for defined folder size , which in your case was 1 MB ( same can be viewed under log generator option). The older reports would get deleted from the folder upon reaching the limit.
The only way to view device syslog is under following option : Reports -> Reports Generator in LMS GUI where we will have to choose syslog with desired attribute.

Cisco Prime - Running LMS on a Windows PDC
Greetings,
Due to certain limitations we must run Cisco Prime on a Windows PDC (Primary Domain Controller). This isn't supported, and the install/upgrade won't let you accomplish this, but I think on our Windows 2008 R2 Server Cisco Prime was originally installed on a stand-alone server that was later changed to a PDC. We're running LMS 4.2.3 and it seems to run fine but now we need to upgrade but the installer won't allow it. Has anyone out there come up with a workaround that allows you to run an upgrade on a PDC?
Any clever ideas on how to circumvent this greatly appreciated!
GeorgeI see better what you mean now I didn't associate AD with the windows domain.
Yes I too had a customer where the LMS server down after it was "targeted" by a GPO from a policyserver.
I was good for doing a reinstall of LMS until on of people of their network team found what policy clobbered the server. He could then revert the damage.
Basically the server is best left alone as well as the casuser account.
Actually the prefered situation from cisco is to take the machine out of the domain (standalone).
Cheers,
