Reinstall OBIEE

Hi:
After apply the 11.1.1.6.2 OBIEE patches, our test instance is really messed up. Weblogic starts up but it has errors. Enterprise Manager show "no data" in the pie chart meant to show the status of the OBIEE components. I feel that I need to reinstall OBIEE.
Can anyone offer any cautions or problems I may face with doing this reinstall?
Thanks.

I would suggest check your steps with the below link, before you unistall

  • Do I need to reinstall OBIEE if I drop ORCL DB instance holding RCU schemas

    Hi,
I want to drop Oracle database instance named ORCL which contain OBIEE schema namely BI_PLATFORM and MDS and tablespaces. If I re-create the same database instance ORCL again and run RCU, will the existing OBIEE work or I need to reinstall OBIEE.
    Thanks,
    Anilesh

    Hi,
No need of installing OBIEE again,
After installing RCU , u need to modify the details in console.
    go to - Envirinment - cluster - bi_cluster - services - bip_datasource - connection pool -
    Give ur database details here.
    and restart server

  • Changing Database from 11G R1 to 11G R2. Do I reinstall OBIEE 11.1.1.5?

Vista 64, single machine setup. I currently have Oracle 11G R1 Database (11.1.0.7) installed and also OBIEE 11G (1.1.1.5) installed, with its repository in this existing Oracle 11G R1 Database (11.1.0.7). I am now going to uninstall the existing database (11.1.0.7) and do a fresh install of a new Oracle Database 11G R2 (11.1.2.0).
Question: Can I somehow keep my current install of OBIEE 11.1.1.5 and point it to the new 11G R2 (11.1.2.0) database? Or should I uninstall OBIEE 11.1.1.5 also and do a fresh OBIEE 11.1.1.5 install once the new 11G R2 database(11.1.2.0) is installed?
I don't need to maintain anything (data, dashboards, reports, etc) from the existing OBIEE 11.1.1.5 installation. Just looking for advice on the easiest route to take on this. Thanks.

    Hi All
I know this is a little bit old post. But wanted to share some information.
    1. When a OBIEE Domain is created, it access the rcu schemas using DataSources. These DataSources can be edited from Weblogic Console anytime. Basically these files will have actual RCU Schema details like db host, port, username, password, any JNDI Names. The physical files are located at this location (in typical windows default it will be like this. The value before the user_projects will be different based on the name for middleware home that you give:
    C:\Oracle\Middleware115BI\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\config\jdbc
DO NOT edit these files manually. But login into weblogic console, on left side select services -> ..> and each DataSource, and Connection Pool for each datasource and edit the values to refer to the NEW DB host, port, username, password etc. Do this for all the 4 datasources that you find in above location.
    2. Also obiee has something called instance1 that runs the OPMN Services. I am not sure if the rcu db details are reffered here. But if they do then you may have to modify the connection details here also.
If you are starting from scrach for the very first time, then first install Oracle Database. Run RCU Schema to create obiee schemas. Then install OBIEE. Because at one point if you choose to create simple edition, it does prompt for these rcu database details. So maintain this order of installation.
Whether its OBIEE weblogic domain or opmn services, we expect them to refer the rcu details something like usign DataSources which are configurable from console or some other way.
    Thanks

  • Connection Issues from OBIEE to Essbase

We are facing the below problem while pulling members or data either from OBIEE repository or Presentation Service. We can see the basic dimensions after connection in physical layer.

Nqserror:43093 An error occurred while processing the EXCUTE PHYSICAL statement.

We use Essbase 11.1.1.3 with OBIEE 10.1.3.3.3 on different servers
We have tried following things already
    1) Reinstalled OBIEE
    2) Changed the Essbase variables to System Variables
but still facing the same problem. For now we have security through Shared Services with admin login.
Can anyone tell me what needs to be done at essbase end or OBIEE end to make this work. Like what are the pre-requisites, etc.

  • OBIEE 11.1.1.6 Scheduler Server fails to start

When the server is rebooted we often have failures in start up of the scheduler server in bipublisher. It is always connect to a MBEAN failure. During operations when it does come up we see a lot of error messages about MBEAN errors as well. I would like to know why, and what, is causing the failures. When it was installed we did a standard install with basic configuration. Here is a listing of the error when it occurs. Sometimes it can be correct by restarting ALL the servers. Other times we have to reboot the server. It is a windows server.

    Hi,
You can delete the BIPublisher deployment in the "Deployments"(in the weblogic admin console) and then you can create the new "BIPublisher" (not BIPublisher11.1.1) using the bipublisher .ear/.war files available in the ORACLE HOME directories.
i believe this will work and you are not disturbing any setup here .its just like you are creating a new deployment
let me know if this works
    Thanks

  • Error - Oracle BI Server has encountered a problem

    Dear Experts,
Oracle BI Server has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    szModVer : 7.0.2600.5512 offset : 00037fd4
I am facing the above error whenever i point the RPD to Test Intance.
Can you please help me on what can be the root cause for this issue.
Please note I reinstalled OBIEE on the system but still the same issue.
    Appreciate your immediate response!!
    Thanks
    ~ Veena

i need your help on this too because i also encounter this error on 10g.
fyi, i just installed oracle 10g (10.2.0.1.0) database and 10g developer suite. i am a newbie to 10g. i used to program using 6i developer and 8i database.
this happens on three different scenarios:
    1. when i click on the Canvasses node even it is a new form.
    2. whenever i create a new block using the wizard upto the Layout wizard.
    3. whenever i click on the Canvasses node after opening an already existing form made from 6i.
i'll be waiting for your responses. thanks.

  • Oracle BI services problem when attempting to start

    Hi All,
I installed OBIEE basic edition which have oc4j and after installation, i have restarted my windows machine and oc4j is getting started automatically. Here my problem is my Oracle BI java host services in windows is not getting started. It is giving me an error as follows:
could not start oracle BI Java host service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Google resulted me to no where on this particular error, and even i tried to start Oracle BI Server service and it is giving me same error. can somebody help me on this?
    Best Regards,

Hi rnm, I have this path "*C:\OracleBI\server\Bin*" in my environment and i also could able to find the same in the ImagePath variable where you told me to check and i could able to find out NQSServer.exe file.
Now, what am not able to find is the log files in "*C:\OracleBI\server\Log*" this path ie, there are no log files present in my 'log' directory.
One more imp thing is, as per Rittman, we will be having java host log files at "C:/ORACLEBIDATA/web/log/javahost/jhost0.log". But, i have only "*C:\OracleBIData\web*" this path, ie, there is no javehost dir* and further files!!. So, shall i suspect some issue with my installation?
I also searched for java host log file in my system, but, i could not find it. SO, basically what my presumption is that the log file is not been created when i try to ran Oracle BI Java Host service. SO,is my problem related to services? In otherwords, does this java host services has less time to execute successfully than required?? do i have to reinstall OBIEE itself?? please advise.

  • Resource /analytics not found on this server

I've tried a lot of different things to overcome this issue, but I'll try and keep this brief. Hopefully someone else has encountered a similar problem :-)
I'm getting the following error with I try to access http://localhost:9704/analytics:
"Resource /analytics not found on this server"
    My setup:
    Windows 7
Oracle DB 11g Release 2 installed locally
    OBIEE 10g v10.1.3.2
I installed 11g Release 2 prior to installing OBIEE.
I can connect to databases through both 11g and OBIEE. I have successfully imported database metadata into OBIEE and built a basic repository. When I try to access analytics I get the error.
I also have tried logging into Application Server Control (http://localhost:9704/em/) as oc4jadmin. I get the following error:
"This OC4J is configured to make JMX connections via RMIS and fall back to RMI if the RMIS port is not configured. The RMIS connection on the OC4J local instance is configured but a connection could not be established. The JMX protocol is specified by the oracle.oc4j.jmx.internal.connection.protocol property in opmn.xml"
The only opmn.xml file I find on my system is at C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\ascontrol\ascontrol\WEB-INF\config\registration, and it doesn't have the oracle.oc4j.jmx.internal.connection.protocol in it.
I've tried the usual stop/start services, restart the computer, making sure ORACLE_HOME and JAVA_HOME are set. Any suggestions on what else to try?

Thanks again Rachit. I had found those instructions, but since I can't get into Application Server Control, I can't redeploy the war in that way.
Last night I was able to fix my problem. Here is what I ended up doing:
    1) Uninstall OBIEE
    2) Restart computer
    3) Delete any OBIEE files that uninstall left (there was still on OracleBI directory structure)
    4) Restart computer again
    5) Install the latest *32-bit* JDK. I had the latest *64-bit* version, and had a suspicion that I might need the 32-bit
    6) Restart computer
    7) Reinstall OBIEE, pointing to the 32-bit JDK install
    8) Restart computer
After that I am able to launch presentation services and get into Answers.
I still have one problem to overcome, but that is for another thread if I can't figure it out.

Issue is resolved by reinstalling OBIEE

  • This OC4J is configured to make JMX connections via RMIS...error!

    Hello,
I have just installed OBIEE and when I try to log into Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g and got the following error:
This OC4J is configured to make JMX connections via RMIS and fall back to RMI if the RMIS port is not configured. The RMIS connection on the OC4J local instance is configured but a connection could not be established. The JMX protocol is specified by the oracle.oc4j.jmx.internal.connection.protocol property in opmn.xml
I have tried to reinstall OBIEE a couple of times but still get this error. Please let me know what I need to do to get this up and running.
    Thanks!
    Linda

This may be because of the host name. You might have any special characters in host name, remove any under scores in host name, restart computer and check it.
if not let me know what URL you are using.

  • Scale out question: how does instance name affect primary/secondary node

    Hi:
    OBIEE 11.1.1.6.4, Windows 2008
On a test instance the following happened:
    1. Enterprise install of OBIEE 11g had problems
    2. Reinstalled OBIEE 11g, but the installer created an instance2
    3. All was well with this install
    4. Performed all necessary shared catalog and RPD steps
    5. On a second server, installed OBIEE 11g using the scale-out option
    6. On second server, this created an instance1 directory
    7. All components start up and we can log into OBIEE using either server1 or server2
    Question:
Does OBIEE use the instance names in a scale-out? Our primary node is instance2 and the secondary node is instance1, though on a separate server. Will this cause a problem?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello,
This can be run on any of the replicas that the availability group participates in to return the primary instance:
    select primary_replica FROM sys.dm_hadr_name_id_map nim
    inner join sys.dm_hadr_availability_group_states ags
    on nim.ag_id = ags.group_id
    WHERE nim.ag_name = 'MyAvailabilityGroupNameHere'

  • External table authentication not updating user group changes

    Hello
    I have a question..
In OBIEE, i am using external table authentication. I have user and user group tables where users and groups are stores.. Every Time I create a new user and assign them to a group, these records get inserted immediately to these tables with the correct user and group ID that matches with each other.. Then in my initialization block I have the query that fetches the user name and psswd as well as groups names..
All these are working at the initial user creation. For example, when I create user A and assign it to group A, the DB table has all of the records inserted correctly. When I log in to OBIEE using User A login, I see it is assigned to Group B.
The problem comes when I change the user A from Group B to Group C. When I did that, although the DB table gets updated correctly, OBIEE session seems to still be the previous one. As a result, when I log in the second time, I see the user A is still assigned to Group B instead of Group C.. This seems to be cached..
I double check these user tables in OBIEE, none of them are cache enabled.. The connection pool setting of the isolation level is set as default..
When I reinstall OBIEE all over again and re-log in the first time, this User is now assigned to Group C..
So seems to be that it is caching issue.
How should I go about solving this issue
    Appreciate in advance

Make sure you check the box for 'Required for authentication' and also 'Use caching' should not check.

  • RPD & Webcat automatic Backup

    Hi All
I would like to know the automatic back-up of my prod RPD & Webcat. We are using UNIX environment
Do anyone have idea, please share.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Create a batch file which will automatically extract those files from relevant OBIEE folder and put it in a backup folder.
    Here is the example:
    @echo off
    echo Backing up Repository files…
if not exist “C:\OBIEE_Backup” mkdir “C:\OBIEE_Backup”
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\server\Repository\samplesales.rpd C:\OBIEE_Backup
    echo Backing up Configuration files…
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\server\Config\NQSConfig.INI C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\server\Config\DBFeatures.INI C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBIData\web\config\instanceconfig.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup\web_instanceconfig.xml
    copy /Y C:\OracleBIData\web\config\credentialstore.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBIData\scheduler\config\instanceconfig.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup\scheduler_instanceconfig.xml
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\xmlp\XMLP\Admin\Configuration\xmlp-server-config.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\xmlp\XMLP\Admin\Security\principals.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\xmlp\XMLP\Admin\Security\security.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\xmlp\XMLP\Admin\DataSource\datasources.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\web\msgdb\l_en\messages\logonmessages.xml C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\portal\portallogo.gif C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\b_mozilla_4\bg_banner.jpg C:\OBIEE_Backup
    copy /Y C:\OracleBI\web\app\res\sk_oracle10\answers\answerslogo.gif C:\OBIEE_Backup
echo Backing up web catalog. Please wait….
if not exist “C:\OBIEE_Backup\samplesales” mkdir “C:\OBIEE_Backup\samplesales”
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\samplesales C:\OBIEE_Backup\samplesales
    echo Backup Complete!
    @pause
Save the file with .bat extension.
Note: The above list of files may vary from Project to Project.
You can run this batch file whenever you move the code to Production.
So this is all about taking the backup of customized files.
Now, in any circumstances if something goes wrong with your application you should be in a position to restore it with quick turn around time.
Following are the steps which you need to follow while restoring the files.
    Reinstall OBIEE.
Make all the OBIEE services down, if any of the services are up.
Restore all the files from backup folder.
Make all the OBIEE services up.
    Clear the browser history.
And your application is up and ready to use.
You can create a batch file which will make the OBIEE services down, restore the backup files at relevant OBIEE folder and make the services up.
    @echo off
    echo Stopping OC4J..
    “C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_10\bin\java.exe” -jar C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\admin.jar ormi:// oc4jadmin oc4jpassword -shutdown force
    net stop “Oracle BI Scheduler”
net stop “Oracle BI Presentation Server”
    net stop “Oracle BI Server”
net stop “Oracle BI Java Host”
    echo Restoring Repository file…
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\samplesales.rpd C:\OracleBI\server\Repository
    echo Restoring all Configuration files…
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\NQSConfig.INI C:\OracleBI\server\Config
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\DBFeatures.INI C:\OracleBI\server\Config
    del C:\OracleBIData\web\config\instanceconfig.xml
    copy C:\OBIEE_Backup\web_instanceconfig.xml C:\OracleBIData\web\config\instanceconfig.xml
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\credentialstore.xml C:\OracleBIData\web\config
    del C:\OracleBIData\scheduler\config\instanceconfig.xml
    copy C:\OBIEE_Backup\scheduler_instanceconfig.xml C:\OracleBIData\scheduler\config\instanceconfig.xml
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\xmlp-server-config.xml C:\OracleBI\xmlp\XMLP\Admin\Configuration
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\datasources.xml C:\OracleBI\xmlp\XMLP\Admin\DataSource
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\logonmessages.xml C:\OracleBI\web\msgdb\l_en\messages

    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\portallogo.gif C:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\portal
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\bg_banner.jpg C:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\b_mozilla_4
    echo Restoring web catalog.Please wait….
    xcopy /s/Y/Q C:\OBIEE_Backup\samplesales C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog
    echo Restore Complete!
    echo Starting OC4J..
    start C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\bin\oc4j.cmd -start
net start “Oracle BI Java Host”
    net start “Oracle BI Server”
net start “Oracle BI Presentation Server”
    net start “Oracle BI Scheduler”
echo Oracle Business Intelligence is up and ready..
    @pause
So this is how you can restore your application with minimum turn around time.

  • Don't see Presentation services in the windows star menu|OBI

    Hello,
I have installed in "Basic mode" OBIEE version 1.3.3. I have chosen "complete". I had no error message during the installation.
When I check in services, I have "Oracle BI Presentation Server" which is present, when I try to reinstall OBIEE in custom mode, the installation tells me :
Oracle Business Intelligence Presentation Services (installed)
Oracle Business Intelligence Presentation Services Plug-in (installed)
So why in the windows start menu -> Oracle Business Intelligence, I don't have "Presentation services" ?
    I only have :
    Administration
    Administration help file
    ODBC client
    Start OC4J
    Stop OC4J
    Welcome to Oracle BI EE
    Catalog Manager
    Job Manage
Thanks in advance for your help.

Go to Start->Services->Run and type in Services.msc. There you would find the Presentation services. You would also find 3 other services like BI Server, Java Host and Scheduler. Bi Server and Java Host should also be started to make it work. If they are somehow not there, try starting them from command prompt using sawserver.exe, nqsserver.exe and sawjavahostsvc.exe.
    Thanks,
    Venkat

  • Reinstalling RPD in OBIEE environment 11g

    Hi,
I have installed OBIEE 11g and oracle database in Linux environment. Earlier i installed an RPD in my linux server ( RPD was generated in a different windows machine in which BI client is installed.) Now , I have made some offline changed ising Bi administrator and i believe the RPD file i now have in my windows machine is updated one with all the changes. I now want to deploy this RPD file in my linux machine.
Question: Shall i simply replace the old RPD file with new RPD file and go ahead with deployment or there is a different way to do the deployment ??

    Hi,
You should really use, Enterprise Manager to upload your new RPD.
Navigate to EM > Business Intelligence Core Application > Deployment > Repository.
Here browse the new RPD from your local and upload it. You will need to restart in order for new RPD to be available.
