Reinstall Safari without OS reinstall

I have an iBook (10.3.9) that is running fine except for major issues with Safari 1.3.2. The problems exist in all user accounts. Lots of crashing especially with Google maps.
Resetting Safari does not fix it.
Is it possible to reinstall Safari?
thanks

You can download it from here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/safariupdate132.html
Before installing:
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
form values
download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
com.apple.Safari.plist
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.
Background information here:

and here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • How can I reinstall Safari - without having to reinstall the entire Mac OS X?

    Hi
Is there a way to reinstall Safari - without having to reinstall entire Mac OS X?

    Hi
Yes - just download the appropriate version from http://www.apple.com/safari/download/ & install it - that should replace the Safari application &  the accompanying software frameworks inside System/Library/, as well as one or two other items.

  • How can I reinstall safari without losing bookmarks

I need to reinstall my Safari and preserve all my Bookmarks.
For a previous problem, i have to reinstall my MacOS and safari now does not work. So i want to reinstall it, but I'm not sure if I'm going to lose my previous bookmarks that I had in my latest Safari.
    Any help is welcome.
    THANK YOU!!

    Hi Julian,
About 15 minutes ago I reinstalled Safari and all my bookmarks remained intact... here's what I did...
I had a problem with Safari not opening after Security Update 2005-007. I used a program called Pacifist to get a file called Safari.pkg from my Tiger install disc.
    The file lives in:
    Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Packages/Safari.pkg
Open the pkg with Pacifist and drop the Safari.app file into your Applications folder.
That's it - my bookmarks all remained intact - hope yours do!
FYI - Safari bookmarks are stored in your 'user' home folder in Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist so you might want to make a copy of that and keep it safe.
If you install a browser called Shiira you can also import your Safari bookmarks into that. I managed to do that while my Safari was broken.
Good luck. I accept no responsibility for lost bookmarks etc. ;O)
    Regards,
    Dan

  • HT2703 Can i reinstall Bonjour without uninstalling/reinstalling itunes after accidental removal?

Can i reinstall Bonjour, after accidental removal, without uninstall/reinstalling itunes?

Uninstalling and then reinstalling your iTunes should also get your Bonjour reinstalled.
For the reinstall, use an installer downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... or you could get it back via your Apple Software Update for Windows.
If you'd prefer not to uninstall iTunes, try the following procedure.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the Bonjour.msi (or Bonjour64.msi) to do a standalone Bonjour install.

  • Need to Reinstall Safari without Leopard CD

I deleted Safari because it kept crashing. I thought I could reinstall it from my Leopard CD but I lost the CD. Is there any way of reinstalling without the CD?

    Hi,
I did this, but now it says i can't use the program with the version of OSX that i have.
I'm sorry for the confusion, my previous response was directed towards Yugo, who is on a 10.4.11 system. In your case, unless you are willing to apply the 10.5.2 Combo Update, and barring someone sending you the application bundle for Safari from their Leopard DVD, I'm afraid there is no way to do it.
I don't know if you ccan install just Safari 3.0.4 from the 10.5.2 Combo Update without applying the update, but if the package installer does allow it, running an updated Safari with out-dated frameworks could spell even more trouble.

  • I uninstalled safari on my macpro? How do I reinstall it without a browser?

I Uninstalled Safari to clean malware attack. How do I reinstall Safari without a browser?

Backup, backup and just why not check how to disable whatever the issue was first to begin with rather than "throw the baby out with bathwater" approach. Often a browser extension or other means to remove whatever the problem was works. And surprised to see a system with only one web browser.
    http://www.thesafemac.com
Access another system, even Windows, and download Firefox, and download the OS X combo update.
There is a forum for Safari, another one for OS X (Yosemite? Mavericks? no idea what you are using) and this even is not the home of MacBook Pro Community.
    MacBook Pro
    Safari
    OS X Yosemite

  • How to reinstall Safari on Yosemite?

Can I reinstall Safari without having to install the entire Yosemite OS?  My Safari suddenly started crashing this morning.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How to test/reinstall Safari?

I got a problem that have been bugging me for a while.
One of the pay sites I use to purchase airline tickets no longer work 100%.
During the payment process it looses the information about the ticket I want to purchase and I end up with a blank page.
    Funny thing is that:
    - it used to work
    - it works when I do it from my MacAir
I reckon that somehow something is changed in my Safari setting on my iMac that I'm unaware of.
Is there a way to verify that Safari works by going to a web-site that will test all it's features?
That would allow me to pin-point what is wrong.
How can I reinstall Safari - without having to reinstall the entire Mac OS X?

    Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to: Other forms. Remove All.
Now from the menu bar again, click Safari / Empty Cache.
    Restart your Mac.

  • How do i reinstall Safari for mac osx 10.7.2?

I updated my Safari from 5.1.3 (I believe) to the latest Safari 7 (I believe). When I tried to open it, it said I needed to update my osx, which I don't want to do. Now I can't seem to go back to the Safari I had. I've tried installing version 5.1.1, but it says I need to have mac osx 10.6. My osx version is 10.7.2 and don't want to upgrade yet, but how do I get Safari back, and which version of Safari works in osx 10.7.2?
What happened is not fair because when I was installing the new version of Safari, there was no warning about which osx I needed. Only after it replaced the old version did it say that I can't use it with my current osx. Is that Apple's way to force you to upgrade to the latest osx? Not fair! How can I reinstall Safari now?

On a Mac running v10.7.2, the only way to reinstall Safari is to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery.
Safari 5.1.1 is for Snow Leopard. It will not run on a Mac with v10.7 installed.

    Hi rmmilleriii,
You should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.org/kb/latest-firefox-issues#os=mac&browser=fx9 this article] that discusses some of the issues with the latest build of Firefox.
There is some information in there that should help you to resolve your issue. Luckily, it is a very easy fix.

  • Can I not download latest version of Safari without reinstalling OS X 10

Hi I have OSX 10.10.3 and Safari 8.4 I want to download the latest version of Safari without reinstalling Yosemite.

Safari is part of OSx. If you have 10.10.3 then you have the most up to date version of Safari which would be 8.0.5
There is no way to update it independently.
Not sure how you get that you have Safari 8.4

  • How can I reinstall Safari 8.0 without disturbing anything else?

How can I reinstall Safari 8.0 without disturbing anything else?  I have OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite & Safari 8.0 (that comes in it) installed on a MacBook Pro laptop and a Mac Mini tabletop computer. I want to access internet banking which goes without problems on the laptop but does not work on the tabletop. The latter says "somebody tried to display the application in a frame..." whatever that means and obviously for safety reasons I can not start banking it always comes back to the screen with this warning. I tried Mozilla FireFox on the tabletop Mini and everything works fine including the banking. A Mac expert suggested something is wrong with the Safari settings and I should reinstall it. How do I do this without reinstalling the System? Would it suffice to wipe out the Safari Preferences and start anew? I am looking for somebody's advice more experienced than I am. Thanks!
    Andy

    Hello isza41,
Before you try to do any uninstall/install stuff let me suggest you something:
Create a new user and check if the same happens within its account. You could do so by going trough the following steps:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Click the lock icon to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.
Click Add below the list of users.
Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user. - Standard user account would be perfect here.
Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Using a password hint is recommended to help the user remember his or her password.
    Click Create User.
Now Logout from your account (⌘⇧Q) and Login to the one you have just created. This account is fresh without any changed settings(as a new instance would look like).
Check if the same would happen and you would see if this is an issue with your installation or something more general.

  • How do I reinstall Safari 5.1 (Lion) replacing all prefs

Safari has been misbehaving on my sysyem ever since 10.5.  This misbehavior has persisted through updates to Snow Leopard and Lion using Migration Assistant throughout.  If I create a new account, Safari behaves properly for that account so I'm thinking that there is a setting somewhere that, if deleted, will restore Safari on my account to good behavior.  Unfortunately, I have deleted all of the Safari prefs and other support files that I can find to no avail.  I would like to be able to correct this without resorting to a clean install.
Here are two of the most aggravating misbehaviors:
    1) Some of the letters for links on this page (http://padilicious.com) are rendered as white in color making them invisible and garbling the text of the hyperlink.
    2) Many of the movies on http://hercules.gcsu.edu/~flowney/research/MPEG-4/subtitles/ (e.g the link entitled, "QuickTime Player 7") will display the QuickTime question mark when other browsers or Safari on other machines play the  video just fine.

Some of the letters for links on this page (http://padilicious.com) are rendered as white in color making them invisible and garbling the text of the hyperlink.
First, reinstalling Safari will have no effect on your problems.
Open Safari's preferences. Select the Extensions tab. Are any Extensions installed? Now select the Advanced tab. Is a Style Sheet selected?

Select Help > Installed Plug-ins from the Safari menu bar. What plugins are installed?

Is there a way this error can be fixed.

do you have any directories owned by root? I've seen some nfs issues change ownership of mounted directories when they're remounted.
is anything in the /bin/ directory owned by root?
I think you should be safe to chown back to your install user.
