Reinstall windows 7 hangs at 25%

I'm doing a favor for a friend. A virus was on the computer and needed to be wiped but they didn't have the factory install discs. I ordered those and went to reinstall windows 7 and it formats the disk and starts to load files and the then dvd drive begins to spin up and down and continue to do that at 25 % and won't go any further. I just tried a 2nd hard drive and it did the same thing. I've already ran the on board diagnostics for both the ram and the original hard drive with no errors. I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks
It's a pavilion g7 64 bit.

Sometimes the recovery appears to hang for quite some time but is actually working. Try just leaving it for a few hours. Also be sure the wireless is turned on-some models seem to have problems if it is off.

  • Windows 7 hangs when creating a new folder and hangs again when renaming it.

Ok, so I have a problem where Windows 7 hangs when creating a new folder and hangs again when renaming it.
I have documented this problem on my blog here:
Windows 7 hangs when creating a new folder and hangs again when renaming it Rhyous's 127.0.0.1 or ::1
This has my hardware details, etc...
I consider myself an expert at troubleshooting (being in support for over 10 years including time as a Lead Technician doing Windows 2000 support focussing on performance), and have checked quite a few things to try to pinpoint this issue, but I just can't find the cause.
I am asking others if they have seen this issue. I need to know if it is only on my workstation, or if others are seeing it as well.
Have you ever right-clicked, chose new folder and then had to wait 45 seconds for a new folder to appear.
Then the same thing when you try to rename the new folder, a hang of about 45 seconds before the new name take affect.
Anyway, let me know if you have experienced ths.

    Hi,
I suggest you temporarily uninstall the antivirus program to check the issue. You need to make sure that you have the installation file to reinstall it later.
If it does not work, I suggest you also test the issue in Safe Mode and Clean Boot to determine if this is a hardware or a software issue.
    Good luck!

  • "Restoring the window layout" hang - tried everything! HELP!

I'm in Mavericks and am experiencing that "Restoring the Window Layout" hang that is kinda infamous around these parts.
Except that in my case, I've done EVERYTHING that all the other links suggest. I have:
*Trashed the Layouts folder (inside Users/myusername/Library/App Support/Final Cut Pro)
    *Trashed prefs (inside Users/myusername/Library/Preferences)
*Followed the instructions to remove FCPX entirely (as found here: Final Cut Pro X 10.1: How to remove and reinstall Final Cut Pro X) *and* repeated the removal of Layouts and prefs as stated above.
    And the problem still persists.
I am [attempting to run] the latest version (10.1.2). Purchased through the App Store so it is verified as the latest.
I can in no way get FCPX to launch properly. Every time I try, it hangs during the launch on the "Restoring the Window Layout" launch screen. I do see my last-used project partially drawn behind it, but the window is all funky (things are in weird places).
    Please help...kinda desperate here...

    Thank you so much.
I am certain I had trashed all the prefs mentioned in the other threads (there were about 3, in the Users/Prefs folder), but I tried your key command, got the prompt to completely trash all prefs, and it did indeed cure the issue. Thanks a ton!

  • EMU 0404 - windows boot hangs, no sound!

    ASUS P48SX motherboard
    Sapphire ATI Radeon graphics card
This problem has been reported on internet forums, but I have found no solution so far:
On installing the software, the device worked fine and i was able to listen to audio and record audio using cubase sx 1.02. The software was installed having formatted my drive and reinstalling windows xp and service pack 2, cubase and propellerhead reason and nothing else. On the next few boots, the computer would hang during the windows xp splash screen. Windows would occasionally load on cold boots only and audio can rarely be heard.
Either the device will appear to work fine, with the volume level faders appearing to work properly and audio playing back but just not audible, or this will occur for the first 3 seconds of a track being played (in windows media player) and then the track would freeze until moved on with the cursor, then play for another 3 seconds, and so on, or the device would work and i can use it as i please.
Each time i have tried loading a session into patchmix that i saved when the card was operational and i know should allow me to hear audio and record it, but this does not help. I have also tried upgrading the drivers and patchmix to v1.08 from 1.07 with no luck.
I have tried setting the bios to manage pci devices instead of the operating system, moving the device into a new slot (although device was originally in an unshared slot), to no avail. When i moved the card and reinstalled the software. it worked for a few boots, then the audio started to clip even with the output faders turned down, and then a couple of hours later when i returned to the pc nothing could be heard and windows could not communicate with the device! argh!!
This seems to be a common problem amongst users to i hope you can help!
    Regards,
    Dom

Thanks Dom. I think I have the solution now, although I only had a short time to test this last light as finished working on the PC at 1:30 am.. Didn't need to try the unintsall SP2 approach. After retrying several previous steps and also editing the BIOS to disable legacy PC Sound, I was thinking about the fact that the PC only had an issue when .wav files were being played or processed and did some intensive internet searching on this subject. I eventually discovered a note on Dell's site at the download centre...
    http://support.dell.com/support/down...2&fileid=78796
....This download page advised of one of the fixes for the BIOS on the Dimension 4300 was fix number 5:
"Fixed hang problem with Creative Audigy and large sound samples"
I wondered whether the same issue that affected the Audigy cards might affect the 0404 and the fact that it said "large sound samples" would clearly apply - I am mostly using 24Bit samples.... I downloaded the latest BIOS and applied it. When I rebooted I disabled all the legacy sound elements I could, and tried Win amp, WMP and Reason in sequence with different files and all were fine.... and sounded excellent. I dodn't know my Genelecs were so good! What's surprising is that I didn't get hangs before I installed the 0404 so I still can't explain that.... perhaps EMU handles them different at operating system level since it has on board effects and stuff.. Anyway, any issues with hanging guys- chekc the latest BIOS for your machine as well as the drivers, services packs and stuff. I spent about 20 hours in total fixing this - about 10 of which were spent watching the PC freeze and reboot ..fun shouldn't be this much hard work {:-|
One thing I was wondering - does anyone habe any truly accurate refernce guide to "tweaks" for XP audio users? I know there are lots of magazine articles but wonder whether you have any good reference material on this. I have disabled some services over time, but there may be lots more I can do to improve performance.

  • Windows setup hangs after BIOS update

    Hey all,
after Bosskiller walked me through setting up my boot sequence I've decided to reinstall windows on my machine.
I get into the Windows Setup blue screen just fine - but somewhere in the middle of the loading sequence it arbitrarily hangs on me.
I've tried multiple times and it seems to get farther each time, but now it will not get any farther than "video card".
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

  • Need help reinstalling Windows 7 home premium on HP G62-435DX

My internal hard disk crashed and I followed advice from this forum to use Ubuntu (using live disc from CD ROM drive) to recover data and save to external hard drive. Next, I replaced the internal hard drive with a 500GB internal hard drive. I figured out how to partition the new internal hard drive and get Ubuntu to acknowledge it.
Now, I'm trying to figure out how to reinstall my Windows 7 Home Premium operating system so I can try to get back to normal. However, I cannot figure out how to download Windows 7 to my hard drive using my product key that came with my machine when I bought it. All the download options appear to require you to buy/request Windows 7 recovery discs to run and install on the machine (since I didn't create these prior to my hard disk failing).
Is this really the only way I can use my product key to reinstall Windows 7 to my machine? Also, I cannot figure out how to download the OS from Windows 7 ISO downloads (via Digital River) to my internal hard drive - seems I can only do this by downloading and burning to CDs (which I don't believe I have the right kind - but obviously am happy to buy if it's the best/fastest option). It seems I have very limited options since I had to remove my internal hard drive, which then eliminated Windows 7 from my machine.
Based on these details - I ultimately want to determine the fastest, most efficient way to get Windows 7 OS back on my machine. I'd prefer to download it, but am hamstrung by having to run Ubuntu from a Live CD. Thanks for your help!

Here are the specs for your HP G62-435DX Notebook Computer. Here is the HP Software and Driver Downloads page if you wish to order the HP Recovery Discs and have them mailed to you. If you wish to download Windows 7 and use the Windows product key on the bottom of your computer, please see How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc for instructions on downloading, creating the installation media (DVD or USB), and installing Windows. You will need a funtional computer with DVD burning software capable of burning the ISO to disc.

  • How to reinstall Windows 8.1 on Bootcamp?

I am trying to reinstall Window 8.1 on Bootcamp after Disk Utility reported that the hard drive it was originally located on was failing and needed to be replaced. I did so. Now when Windows 8.1 installer launches, it thinks I'm doing an upgrade and insists that I "reboot Windows Normally" and then launch the Installer, which is impossible because it's freshly formatted, NEW hard drive.
Here are the steps that I followed:
    1) Disk Utility reports that Boot Camp drive is failing and replace it.
    2) Remove failing hard disk, replace with new one.
    3) Launch Bootcamp Assistant.
    4) Download support drives to USB stick.
    5) Begin install process using same Windows disk (64-bit FULL VERSION) used previously.
    6) Windows Installer asks for Product Key.
    7) I enter product key.
    8) WIndows asks to agree to license terms.
    9) Setup presents ONLY two choices:
         Upgrade Installation
         Custom Installation
    10) I choose Upgrade.
    11) Windows Setup reports that Upgrade can only take place from Windows environment, to eject Windows Install disk, and to reboot into Windows "normally." Cannot eject Windows install disk. Click Close box.
    12) Windows Installer relaunches.
    13) Install process starts over again.
    Please note:
    1) This is a fully licensed copy of Windows 8.1
    2) I am using it on the same Mac as the original installation. Only change is the hard drive.
    3) This is not an authentication issue. Windows accepts the Product Key.
    4) Parallels is not involved in any way.
I have talked to several Windows support teams. None were helpful and ultimately said this was a Bootcamp/Apple problem
Apple Support was much more helpful but said they'd never encountered this problem before and were flummoxed.
I have reformatted the Bootcamp hard disk several times. At one point I thought the issue might be that the Mac still thinks the original Windows installation exists because I kept the same name for the new hard disk. Renaming and reformatting did not change the behavior.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I wound up solving, or at least working around my problem. Selecting "Custom Install", instead of Upgrade, took me to a dialog box where  Installer could format the Bootcamp drive from scratch. Installation then proceeded as expected. Unfortunately this cost me my partition, but that was better than being stuck in this Upgrade Catch-22. Note that formatting and partitioning this drive within the Boot Camp assistant did not solve my problem.

  • Reinstall windows 7 and then back to windows 8

Hi would like to reinstall windows 7 for the programs I missed.
What happen to me was I installed files for windows 7 not 8 and a720 crashed and when I installed windows 8 again some things were gone that I wanted to keep. The f2 key will not work after you install windows 8 and that fine.
I have windows 8 working fine now but what I want is to be able to reinstall back to factory and then upgrade to windows 8 again I understand this is what I need from your parts 51-29051 and would like to get this sent to me.
I still have the oem partition with the ork files but don't know how to use them at this time.
My thoughts are I should be able to set my a720 i5 back to the factory settings like how I bought it.
I never thought I would not be able to use onekey for this to happen.
Hope you can help after this I will call Lenovo and see what they can do.

What programs are you missing from W7 installation? If the preinstalled Lenovo software then it's not compatible with W8 anyway.

  • How Do I Convert Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview and Back Without Reinstalling Windows?

    Howdy,
Much like in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Windows 10 provides you with experience that allows you to convert your Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview without having to reinstall Windows.
Why would I need converting my Windows SKU (edition)
Currently, you may need this to fix issues with Windows not synchronizing browser favorites between different editions. For example, if you're using Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview in a test environment at work and Windows 10 Pro Technical
Preview at home, you won't see favorites added on Enterprise edition at home and vice versa. All the links added on Pro edition while browsing web at home won't appear on your work PC.
To convert Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10
    Enterprise Technical Preview:
    1. Press WindowsKey+PauseBreak and select Add Windows Features at the bottom left corner of System window.
    2. In the Add features to <OSName> window click to add Product key and type in the
public product key for Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview available here.
Voila! Your Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview is now converted to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview.
To convert Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview to Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview:
Following the above procedure does NOT reveal Add features to Windows 10 link button in System window.
We could try doing this through DISM tool.
    1. Press WindowsKey+X and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. At the command prompt type dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition to obtain information about the current edition of Windows:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition

Editions that can be upgraded to:
(The current edition cannot be upgraded to any target editions.)
    The operation completed successfully.
Looks like Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview cannot be downgraded.
To downgrade edition from Enterprise to Pro, you can trick Windows setup into thinking it is running on Pro by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion and changing the following keys:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Professional"
    "ProductName"="Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview"
After that you may run in-place upgrade using Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Setup disc.
Note, if you can't find the Add features to option in Control panel, press Windows Key + R and type control /name Microsoft.WindowsAnytimeUpgrade.
If you want to, you could change Windows edition via DISM servicing tool by running:
    DISM /online /Set-Edition:Enterprise /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula
In case you can't access official page for
Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview download, or the page that contains
product key for Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview, you can always obtain the product key by looking for
F:\sources\pid.txt on the Windows Setup disc.

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Recovery Does Not Reinstall Windows on HP Pavilion dv5-1127cl

    Hello,
Recently, I tried to do a factory reset of my laptop. I used the recovery partition by pressing F11. It ran through reinstalling all of the HP software but then would randomly shut off when trying to reinstall windows. I tried the recovery process over and over again and got the same result. The recovery discs are not available for my computer as well.
My product name and number: HP Pavilion dv5-1127cl
    Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit
Error Message: Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.
Any input on this would be good, I have been very frustrated trying to get this to work. You wouldn't think your recovery would fail, seems to be a very important option to the computer!

Can I reinstall Windows XP on an HP computer using the COA received with the computer?
I read the following online and not sure what it means:
"It may not work with an OEM product key code. You would need to either sip stream SP3 or find a XP OEM version that does not come with service pack 2 installed... For some reason the OEM codes don't work with SP2 OEM disks. MSCE, MCP, A+, Network+, Security+, CEH, CCNA Just thought this might be a tid bit of information that might help those of you that need to restore windows and are using the most common OEM product key code located on the COA (Certificate of Authentication) on your computer...The only exception is if it specifically says service pack 2 on your COA."
    Thank for your help!

    Hi:
    Me either.
Your product key should work, but you shouldn't even need it when you use a recovery disk made for your PC.
