Reinstall Windows 8 in Lenovo G400

Last day I formatted preinstalled Windows 8 laptop(Lenovo G400) and installed linux. Now I am planning back to Windows 8 Is there any way to get my lost preinstalled windows 8 product key ?

Hi vipinbaby,
Thanks for Posting!
The product key in the BIOS is only meant for an OEM OS,
meaning that you cannot use the product key in the BIOS unless the IWndows 8 installer came from lenovo.
I suggest two options,
1. Install a non OEM (Retail) installer of your desired windows version and it will come with a product key purchased from Microsoft.
2. If you cant to use the BIOS Product key, You can call Lenovo Technical Team and ask on how to obtain the Recovery CD. fees may apply.
Hope ths helps
Cheers!

  • Lenovo G400s Wireless Connection Limited Access on Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit

Just bought Lenovo G400s, install windows 7 ultimate - 32 bit on it.
It turns out the wireless network driver need to install manually, the disc driver that came with laptop was for windows 8.1. So I went to lenovo website, put on the series and download the wirelss network driver which is around 250 MB.
I installed the driver and connect to the wireless network. My office wireless was on security and use static ip. I changed the ipv4 ip static already. It connected for a while, 1-2 second then lost connection. I checked with ping to google, got 2 records of live connection which is very short. After that it try to reconnecting itself again and again with status said "Limited Access"
I search in google, read some forums about problem in different series, so I use another computer go to Intel website to download latest driver. Got it installed, but it's still the same.
I try download broadcom driver, but it's really different and doesn't work at all.
Now I don't know what to do.
    Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit

    Driver Provider: Intel
    Driver Date: 1/26/2014
    Driver Version: 15.11.0.7
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compability Publisher
What makes it weird, although from intel website said the driver date is in 3/21/2014, and the version is 16.11.0, but this information I get from device driver was different.
    Here's the intel's website if you're wondering:

    Can anyone help me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Today I want to install windows 8.1 on it, because the laptop came with windows 8.1 driver disc.
However, I try the wireless connection once again , one final try before I clean install the OS.
It turns out the internet connection is connected. Ping is quite stable, got a small drop. Nonetheless, IT'S CONNECTED!!!
I don't know what happened, I tried thousand ways yesterday and gave up. Today I don't set anything just try connecting with static IP set the ipv4 just like I did yesterday, and it connects without hassle!! is there a pc fairy or what?
The possible way I can think of is the router's internet connection's got restarted since It's a new day at office.
Despite how it solved still mystery to me, I think I mark this thread as Solved.

  • Reinstall windows 7 and then back to windows 8

Hi would like to reinstall windows 7 for the programs I missed.
What happen to me was I installed files for windows 7 not 8 and a720 crashed and when I installed windows 8 again some things were gone that I wanted to keep. The f2 key will not work after you install windows 8 and that fine.
I have windows 8 working fine now but what I want is to be able to reinstall back to factory and then upgrade to windows 8 again I understand this is what I need from your parts 51-29051 and would like to get this sent to me.
I still have the oem partition with the ork files but don't know how to use them at this time.
My thoughts are I should be able to set my a720 i5 back to the factory settings like how I bought it.
I never thought I would not be able to use onekey for this to happen.
Hope you can help after this I will call Lenovo and see what they can do.

What programs are you missing from W7 installation? If the preinstalled Lenovo software then it's not compatible with W8 anyway.

  • Unable to boot new Linux installation on Lenovo G400

I am having problems installing Linux Mint 16 to a Lenovo G400 that I recently purchased here in China. I have an older Lenovo that I have had for several years, and have been quite pleased with it so I thought I would get another. I gave up on Windows several years ago, and have been running exclusively Linux, mostly Ubuntu or Mint, ever since. I have heard and read things about how Microsoft seems to be fighting back to restrict the spread of Linux, so I took a Live USB stick of Linux Mint 16 so I could see if start it with any machine that I was interested in.
The machine I tested my USB stick on worked fine, so I sent them to the warehouse to get a fresh one in a box. My problems started when they came back from the warehouse with another model, newer, with a faster processor, and pre-installed Linux. I entered the data required to complete the setup, and played around with the Linpus OS a bit before deciding to take that machine instead of the other. My thinking was that I could replace Linpus with Mint later. I did not try booting from my USB stick before agreeing to take this machine.
Later, after trying out Linpus and deciding I had a strong preference for a Debian derivative, I had trouble setting the boot order, but resolved that by finding a copy of the user guide in English. When I tried to boot from the USB, the first thing I noticed was that anything I tried to run from a Live USB stick would not function in standard or default mode. The menu would come up, I would select the default or standard mode, and the system would start to load but a few seconds later the screen would go black. The USB continued to flash for a while but the screen stays black.
At first I noticed this problem with Gparted, which would not run in default or failsafe mode, but does run in safe graphic mode. Similarly, with Mint 16, the live USB will only start in compatibility mode. Later there were several other live systems that I have tried with similar results. Almost all of the live systems I tried ran in their equivalent of the compatibility mode. The one exception to that was Boot-Repair-Disk, which I could not get to work at all in the 64-Bit edition. The 32-Bit edition did work, in their equivalent of compatibility mode, but it told me I needed the 64-Bit Edition because EFI was detected.
When I succeeded in getting the Gparted and Mint 16 live USBs to function in non-default modes I decided to go ahead with my repartitioning and installation plans. This may have been my second mistake. Maybe I should have taken this machine back, but I didn't.
With my Live USB of Gparted running in Safe Graphic mode, I found 6 partitions on the HDD: sda1 is FAT 32 and labeled boot; sda2 is an unknown file system and labeled bios_grub. Both of these partitions are 500 Mb, and I left them alone. I also left sda3 untouched, which is labeled linux-swap. Sda4, sda5 and sda6 I re-sized and re-formated to use as two / partitions and a shared /home.
I then installed Mint 16 in sda4 with sda6 as home. I left the GRUB intallation in the default setting, sda. The installation seemed to go alright, but when I try to boot I just see Lenovo and then the screen goes black. It does seem like the system may be loading and I just can't see it, but that is only a guess. I don't see anything that looks like the GRUB screen and so there is no way to use compatibility mode. Using Gparted from a Live USB suggests that the installation worked and there are files there.
I have searched on the web and have been unable to find anything that helps. Obviously, I am not an expert, but I have installed Linux quite a few times and never experienced anything like this. But then I am used to starting from a clean disk.
I am very tempted to delete the two partitions that I left in place and try an installation like I am used to doing. But I do not know anything about EFI, and my hard drive is listed in BIOS setup as an EFI HDD Device, so I don't know if my machine would still work if I delete these partitions.
So I am very much in need of some advice on this and I wonder if anyone can please offer me some guidance. And perhaps I should add a few more details, such as: USB Legacy is enabled; Boot Mode is set at Legacy Support ; Boot Priority is Legacy First ; USB Boot is Enabled; and my BIOS Version is 78CN25WW(V2.03).
I am sorry to go on so long, but I have tried to be thorough, thank you.

Hi, the W520 has ACPI and powermanegement issues on kernels < 2.6.39 without specific patches. Two questions:
What version of (K)Ubuntu are you trying to run?
What is the setting of your graphics system in the BIOS? Most of the time, setting it to Integrated just works fine, the open source Intel driver is quite good. When setting it to Discrete, you can either use the open source Nouveau drivers for the Nvidia card or the Nvidia proprietary binary drivers, all with varying success. At the moment I would not recommend setting it to Optimus, since support with Bumblebee is work in progress and quite tricky to handle. I am not sure what the Live CD is trying to do, but test it with graphics set to integrated first. Because of all the manual tweaking necessary two month ago I switched from Ubuntu to Gentoo, rolled a new kernel and never looked back. See my thread about HowTo Running Linux on the W520:

  • U410 recovery partition reformatted, need help reinstalling Windows 8

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo U410 with a 32GB SSD and a 750GB HDD that are treated as one drive. The previous owner reformatted the entire drive, which erased the recovery partition. Thus, I can'tmake a recovery disc or USB stick (the recovery partition would have to be intact for that to work anyway) and can't reinstall Windows 8.
Can anyone confirm that the recovery media I'd order from Lenovo support would be able to reinstall Windows 8? I'm afraid that they would send me a disc that needs the recovery partition to work.
    Thank you.

You can give them (Lenovo support) a call and ask about it.
I did, they didn't know if it would work.

  • Corrupted Windows 7 install on W520 need to reinstall Windows?

Somehow I have corrupted my Windows 7 installation on my W520.
I receive this error message from Windows when I try to open standard links with Windows Explorer:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
Lenovo Support says I have to reinstall Windows 7 from the recovery disks.  (My backup is also corrupted.)  I do not want to completely reinstall Windows if I don't absolutely have to  (Nobody would.).  Fred Langa has a column that says you can do an "upgrade" reinstall to the same version you already have and it will fix a corrupted Window.  However, as I don't have a complete copy of Windows I don't know whether I can do that with my Lenovo Windows serial  number? I have downloaded a couple of Windows 7 install discs from Digital River and neither of them seemed to work.  (I am running Windows 7 x64 Professional.)  I have tried a bunch of file association changes by merging new associations with the Registry, but this has not solved my problem.  Windows basically works, and all of my programs work, so I am really hoping for a solution.  I can use Power Desk to navigate Windows instead of Windows Explorer but it won't open the desktop shorcuts like Control Panel, Documents, Picture, etc.
    Any ideas?  Thank you!

Sorry to be slow in responding, I had a 400-mile drive between receiving your e-mail and time to respons.  <ouch>
I have been to Digital River, but I found *two* versions of Windows Professional X64.  I also found two different numbered ISOs which claimed to be the same version.  (I actually first learned about them in a different forum in Lenovo.)  I tried to do a Repair from them and neither worked.  They might work for an upgrade install, with my Lenovo serial number, but they do not work with a Repair.  (I did have a Repair disc that I had made myself, and it did *not* solve my problem.)
Do you happen to know the exact ISO number of a version that will work.  They are 3GB per download, so they take a few minutes at home.  Here I am on a satellite connection so I couldn't download them at all.
Thank you very much and you have always been extremely helpful.  BTW, are you at all optimistic that I won't have to reinstall Windows.  I am pretty fatalistic myself at this point.  I have worked on the problem for more than 10 hours.

  • How to reinstall Windows 8 on Yoga 13 with damaged Recovery Image?

I changed the partitions on my Yoga 13. Now it is not possible to refresh, reinstall or perform an advance start-up, as it looks like there is no recovery image anymore. The systems is currently very messy and needs a reinstall.
Can someone tell me how to reinstall Windows 8 on the Yoga 13 when the recovery image is lost or damaged?

    hi Chevex,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
In the event that the Recovery partition is not working the only option is to use the Recovery CD that you can create when you first got the computer.
but if you were not able to create a Recovery CD and the Onekey Recovery is not working.
You can get the Recovery CD from the Software Department (Fees may apply to the discs)
you can contact the Hardware Team again and ask to be transferred to Software team for purchasing RCD

  • Thinkpad X1 Product: 1294-2pg, reinstalled windows 7 having problems

    Hi there
recently had to reinstall windows 7 professional because i have a virus on my laptop preventing internet access.
I'm now going through the long process of installing all the drivers again, but they aren't working for some reason. I can't access my webcam (when I press Fn + F6 nothing happens), the brightness buttons (FN + f8/f9), the volume buttons on the right hand side work but nothing comes up on the screen. the only driver that seems to have installed properly is access connections.
I have installed all the drivers I thought I would need from the website but none of them have had any affect (apart from access connections). I also cannot correct the screen resolution, it is the wrong one but i can only choose from 1024 x 768, 960 x 600 and 800 x 600 on the windows screen resolution settings. i think my resolution should be 1366 x 768.
please help!!  my dissertation is due in a few days and i need a working laptop to write on.
    thanks for reading.

Have you tried to install the Drivers using the ThinkVantage System Update?

  • Flex 2 15 - Need to reinstall Windows 8.1

Hi! I'm new here so be patients please!
I have recently bought a Lenovo Flex 2-15 and it came with pre-installed Windows 8.1. My supplier was Newegg.com.
Everything was great and beautiful, except I wasn't able to close the optical drive door. After a few more tries and tries, it, finely, closed. Now it's working just fine every time I use it, exactly as intended.
For a few day ago, I experienced some bad activity due to installing a plug-in which suppose to help me watch some online TV stations. It seems I got a virus or a maleware. Even with my updated antivirus, the system runs pretty "cloggy" and browsers (no matter which of the: IE11, Chrome, Firefox, Safary - all being up to date) are displaying a lot of ads, most of  them are covering the page but you cannot see them. When ready to click on a link or just click on a free area with no link, they start to open in separate pages and make your work worst.
OK! This is not something too new or strange to me. But I really want to reinstall the OS and have it like it was in the beginning.
It is about a pre-installed version of Windows 8.1
I would go for Windows 8 as well, as I can update it to the v8.1 later and for free. All I need to know is:
HOW CAN I REINSTALL IT since I got no copy of OS when received the laptop?! No ISO image, no rescue DVD, no nothing or anything. Is there any process steps I have to follow?
Please, I need your help. Post here ONLY if you really know how to do it and did it before. Thank you so much in advance.
P.S.: 1. Don't try to advise me using the OneTouch Recovery Option or any kind or utility like this, since my computer is INFECTED with something.
P.S.: 2. I have already been uninstalling all browsers and clean the remaining files from Registry and after that to reinstall them back. Got the same situation with unwanted and hidden ads.

  • Need to reinstall Windows

I have a computer for a customer, and I need to reinstall Windows. They had a failing hard drive so I put a new hard drive in. They don't have any recovery disks and the recovery partition is corrupted. How do I go about getting Windows reinstalled.

if he/she has valid warranty, ask lenovo to change the hdd for free. they'll also install operation system, too.
even if you have recovery disks, the hard disk has the same volume size to use recovery disks via one key recover.
so, either or you need to contact lenovo support, ship it back.

  • Reinstall windows 7 pro to change the system language

    Hello Everyone!
I recently bought a ThinkPad T400 online with preinstalled Windows 7 Professional.
The system language is German and I want to change it to english.
So far Ive seen, that it's only possible to do so by reinstalling windows 7 pro as an english version while reusing my product key, if I don't want to upgrade to ultimate.
I'm not so good with computers and I'm a bit scared to mess something up!
Can someone of you give me a nice step by step or some recommendations what I need to take care of?
Can I really just download windows 7 pro from the official windows store? And how do I make sure to really get it in english?
Thank you so much in advance!!
I really didn't think changing the language could be so much of a hassle.

Installing Windows 7 is easy. But before going that route, you may want to contact Lenovo and see if you can get the english system recovery discs.
If you have to reinstall windows there are good instructions here.As for downloading an ISO or purchasing an install disc, Microsofts position is that the ISO's are only available to people who purchase their OS online and then download it. All other uses are verboten. What you decide to do it is between you and your lawyer.

  • How to install windows like Lenovo do (U300e)

It seems to me that Lenovo have installed windows on the C drive of my Lenovo U300e but also on the 32 GB SSD. So it is a sort of cached installation or something.
The laptop boots of the SSD, but it is too small to do a windows install on so some of the windows files must be on the normal hard drive.
My laptop crashed and I am trying to reinstall windows. I have managed to install it fine to the 2.5" hard drive and run it off there, but this is not taking advantage of the SSD, and I would like to set it up so that it boots of there, like it did when new.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • Yoga 2 11 Need to reinstall Windows, can't find how

Hi folks.  I bought a Yoga 2 11 for my son at Christmas and of course he managed to download a really nasty bug in a Minecraft map file he loaded when I wasn't around.  I can't get this thing cleaned so I thought I should just reinstall Windows since he hasn't had it long and we don't have much to backup/reload.  I can't find a darn thing in Support for a Yoga 2 11 and didn't see my Windows license code anywhere.  Could someone point me in the right direction on how to do this?
    Thanks,

    Hello and welcome,
I moved your post from the Windows Tablets board to this forum.  First, let's verify:  you're talking about a Yoga 2 11 laptop, not a tablet?
You should be able to power on using the Novo button and run a OneKey reset to factory state.  The User Guide (Windows 8.1) – Lenovo Yoga 2 11   will help.  Check page 25.
