Reinstallation of CS4 failing

I have had cause to rebuild my system following a trojan issue. I reinstalled CS2 from my cd ok but the CS4 upgrade is failing with 'Installation of the following components has failed' and it comes up for all components. There is no explanation provided.
What is happening and how do I get around the issue?

Hi Dennis,
I am sorry to hear that you're facing trouble with installation.
You don't need to install CS2 in order to upgrade to CS4. Also, most of the latest OSs are not compatible with CS2 and cause problems. If you have the serial number of CS2, start installing CS4 and enter the number of CS2 (when prompted) to qualify for the upgrade.
Now, i would suggest you to remove CS2 from control panel, remove the remaining files and folders (if you find any) and then install CS4 after rebooting the machine.

    What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running?  You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
    Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:

    MOST IMPORTANTLY:  have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
    To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
    Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
    Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
    Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.

    I am trying to upgrade from CS3 to CS4 in a Windows VISTA environment and the installation of Bridge and CS4 fails. The message is:
    Adobe CMaps CS4
    Error:
    Error 1603. Error 1714.The older version of Adobe CMaps CS4 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.
    It's probably really simple but I can't find how to email Customer Support.
    Can anyone point me there?

    Illustrator CS4 Fails Display Font List In Yosomite, but displays Individual Font Family Names, I scroll down to about where I think it should be then check each font family till I find Correct one. As I am cutting back on work load in preparation for retirement, I have deleted my Font Manager rather than upgrading it to Yosomite and reverted to "Font Book".

    Just discovered what appears to be the fix on another website. It was a fix for CF5 but it appears to work just fine for CS4 as we;
    Open the Mac OS X System Preferences and head to ‘Accessibility.’ Once you are in there, select ‘Display’ from the left-hand list and then check the checkbox that says “Reduce transparency.”

    I have a VB script that ran fine with CS2 and CS3, but when I run it with CS4 it fails when I call the Relink method on a Link object. Has anyone experienced any issues with relinking in CS4.

    I've reinstalled CS4 from the discs (if I'd realized I could download new installers I would have done that instead, but I saw that option after I'd finished) and when I tried to check for updates the updater failed to retrieve any, with the message that updates for Adobe Updater 'cannot be determined at this time'.  I installed the newest version of Updater 6 that I could see, but that didn't resolve the issue.

    When I go to install CS4 ,I get a message that Bridge is open. It is not open. I try to uninstall CS4 extended trial an the same thing happens. I tried to load CS3 and bridge won't open. CS4 bridge will load even though I have run out of daYS USING THE TRIAL VERSION.
    So I am stuck with CS# and the new bridge.

    Same topic, different mode of failure: In Windows XP Home, fails to recognize the installed PS CS3 v.10.0.1, and prompts for the serial number of a PS CS3 Extended version (the only choice in a drop-down). The Adobe eligibility charts show that PS CS3, CS2 and CS are eligible products to upgrade. The installed version of PS CS3 has been working fine for over a year and it is a legal version. I do notice that there is a PS CS2 also still installed, but the frequency of use seems to indicate they both are working together. CS2 is also eligible to upgrade, so there goes that alibi. A support case I opened was responded to by simply directing me to phone support, and abruptly withdrawn (not by me). There was a hint that I might be given a time sensitive unlock key.

  • Installation of CS4 Fails Consistently ...

    I have been trying to install CS4, but I keep getting this error.
    I have not only disabled but uninstalled Avast (my Antivirus)
    I have restarted / rebooted more times than I can count
    I have now set the selective startup in Windows XP to not load the startup items.
    The above error occurs after the setup spends some time examining the system profile.
    I now have CS4 in my installed programs list, and I get the exact same error when I try to remove it from add/remove programs.
    I have used tweaknow reg cleaner and that did not help
    I also have tried using the windows install cleanup utility
    History:
    I originally installed CS4 with errors.  I was told that AIR would not install.  I followed a trail of help in the knowledge base and uninstalled everything.  I updated the windows scripting engine and a few other things.  Now I can install and uninstall AIR no problem, but the suite itself won't run as noted above.
    Other details:
    The windows admin tools event viewer says this is the problem:
    Faulting application setup.exe, version 2.0.138.0, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 8.0.6001.18812, fault address 0x00209d2c.
    Any advice?

    I am the only user set up on the system, and I am an administrator
    I tried restarting windows in safe mode with networking enabled and logging in as the system admininistrator.
    The setup starts the system profile examination and stops almost immediately saying setup cannot continue please contact adobe support.  This is at least different than the consistent results I have been getting above...
    There is a warning in the event viewer that says:
    Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x8007043C

  • Premiere Pro CS4 (which includes Encore CS4) Failed to install

    HI everyone,  I am trying to reinstall Premiere Pro (which also includes Encore CS4) since I seem to be having some problems with the Blu-ray authoring in Encore.  I uninstalled Premiere Pro from the Add/Delete Programs in Win XP Pro Control panel.  After uninstalling, I'm trying to reinstall Premiere Pro/Encore programs.  However, I'm getting an "Error Code 2" for Dynamic Link, Encore CS4, Encore CS4 Codecs, and the Encore US Language Pack.  Then the install stops and fails to complete the installation.
    Anyone have any ideas what's happening here?  My system specs are below.  I don't know what's wrong in order to fix it.

    I'd just suggest to run CS4 clean tool one time or (better) twice, after uninstallation.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 fails to start

    I have just installed dreamweaver CS4 onto my Vista Ultimate
    laptop, the installation appeared to go fine, but when I try to run
    DW CS4 I get the green spash screen, that disappears and then I get
    nothing! It doesn't crash the computer, everything else still works
    fine, just no DW.
    A while ago I installed DW8, which did the same thing. So
    bought the latest version from Adobe assuming that would fix it. I
    uninstalled the previous Macromedia suite 8 before installing CS4.
    I have uninstalled CS4, cleaned up totally with the CS4
    Cleanup Utility. Removed a font the log file had marked as having
    an error. Reinstalled everything and still have the same problem.
    Any Ideas?

    WinFileCache*.dat and delete it. You have nothing to loose.

    And last it could be a conflit with another program, but the
    video card
    seems to be a good avenue, if all of the above failed try
    disabling
    everything that is not related to Vista operation with
    MSConfig, and restart
    dreamweaver. I know this should be done by Adobe tech
    support, but hey.....

  • InDesign CS4 fails to open PageMaker 6.5 files correctly

    After upgrading to InDesign CS4 this week, I attempted to open a PageMaker 6.5 file. It opened, but the pages were out of sequence. PageMaker 6.5 pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc., opened in InDesign CS4 as pages 1, 3, 2, 5, 4, etc.
    I purchased InDesign CS4 last week for the sole purpose of working on two books I created in PageMaker 6.5. For me, at present InDesign CS4 is useless. I hope Adobe provides a fix soon.
    Also the upgrade rejected my PageMaker 6.5 serial number, I tried all the fixes at the Adobe website, finally after half an hour on the phone I was given a challenge/response code which then launched InDesign. If I need to reinstall InDesign, I'll have to go through the challenge response process again, i.e. another long wait on the support line.
    I'm using OS 10.5.5 on the newest, unibody PowerBook Pro.

    Just purchased and installed CS4 web premium, when I select Media encoder it starts to load and then says it has encountered an error. The message is ..\..\src\Init.cpp-24 with a continue button when I hit the button to continue it says it must shut down. proceeding closes the program.     I've acquired a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It takes supherb HD video 1920x1080. But when I attempt to import the clips in Premiere CS4, I get the unsupported file error message.
