Reinstalled from Install and Restore Disc

My PB G4 was delivered in 2005 with 10.4 installed and was running 10.4.11 before I decided to start over. Reinstalled and wish I had done it some time ago, but the OS disc installed 10.3 and maxed out at 10.3.9 after 19 updates from Apple.
How do I get to 10.4.11 again? Will the app be on my Home Back Up, or is this more likely a trip to the Genius Bar? Thanks much. ~Jeff

HI,
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
ow do I get to 10.4.11 again? Will the app be on my Home Back Up
Tiger v10.4 is not an application, it's the Mac OS X operating system.
Probably best to visit the Genius Bar.

  • Kernal panic with software install and restore disc

I'm trying to access my software install and restore disc for my powerbook G4 running tiger. Everytime I restart the computer with the disc in, and hold down c, I get a kernal panic. There is nothing wrong with the software install and restore disc, as far as I can tell.
    Thanks for any help!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

is this a tiger disk or a previous operating system? if it is a previous os restore disk, then it is not surprising it would panic. the only software restore disks you would need would be ones to run the apple hardware test and to install or reinstall os 9. otherwise, you should not use a software restore disk for a previous operating system, unless you have erased and installed your drive. • Is there any demand out there for a PowerBook G4 15 and 17" Mac OS X 10.3 Install and Restore Disc DVD?

I have this disc in great condition...any interest?

Yes, it is the one grey software install & restore disc that came with my PowerBook G4 Laptop. I have no further information about the actual computer it came with because I no longer have it so the only information I have is what's on the disc and that it's copywritten from 2003 and I bought the machine in 2004. I've been dragging my feet about letting it go so yes, it is still available. Let me know if you are still interested.

  • Can I back up computer with time machine on lion then reinstall snow leopard and restore from backup safely

Can I back up computer with time machine on lion then reinstall snow leopard and restore from backup safely?

If your machine came with Snow Leopard or earlier and you have your install disks, yes, you can reinstall SL. However, you will need to erase the entire hard drive so you will lose all your files. Also note that there are some apps (such as Mail) which can't be downgraded "automatically" such as with a restore from Time Machine. Here is some info on TM:

  • Clean install and restore from Time Machine: Will i lose my applications ?

I want to do a Snow Leopard clean install instead of a an upgrade.
    1) How do I do the clean install and restore it from Time machine during the install ?
    2) If I do the clean install and restore from Leopard's time machine backup, will I retaing all my applications or I will only retain my personal files ?
    - If I don't retain my applications, how will my photos in iPhoto be restored without iPhoto ?

If you did a complete TM backup, then all your files, users, settings, and programs will be restored. You will have the opportunity to restore using TM at the end of the install. I would back at least my data up separately.
To erase and install (i.e., clean install), start up to your DVD and stop after selecting your language. Use the menus to start Disk Utility and erase your drive. Quit Disk Utility and proceed with your installation. At the end, you will be able to choose to reclaim your settings, files, and apps from TM.

  • Powerbook g4 freezing after restart while using install and restore cd

i want to restore my powerbook to the original settings. i insert the install and restore cd that came with my computer and after i click the install mac os x icon, the computer prompts to restart. when the computer starts to restart, it freezes and won't read from the disc. it just continues to give the message you need to restart your computer.
anyone have any suggestions or help in this matter.
    thanks,

if PowerBook crashes like that when booted from original install CD, it is likely hardware problem.
try removing extra RAM, pull out AirPort card, reset PRAM
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
and make sure CD is not scratched/dirty.
if you have original CDs kit, there supposed to be hardware test CD included with it, boot from test CD, see what it says.

  • PowerBook G$ (titanium) Software Install and Restore disk

My Powerbook G5 (titanium) Software Install and Restore disk will not function as described in the ReadMe document. I want to install OS X from this CD onto my new Iomega 160 Gig Hard Drive. I put the CD into my PowerBook and it comes up fine on the Desktop. However, when I click on the install OS X icon a pop-up appears and says I will have to re-start my computer and another pop-up appears and asks for my administrator password. When I type it in the computer attempts to re-start ( a blue shut-down screen appears) but it never does re-start or shut-down. The blue screen remains but nothing further happens.
Can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help. My email address is: [email protected]

    Cshepe,
try booting from your OS X CD directly: Leave the CD inside the PB and shut it down. Press the power button and hold down "c" for a while until you see a blue background and the OS X installation program.
Btw, there's no need to reveal your email address, since any (technical) discussion should always be public, so others can chime in or solve their own, similar issues.

  • Did a leopard clean install and restored via time machine

    Hi
Just done a leopard clean install and restored data via time machine, now when i run time machine i cant go back in time to restore other bits and bobs, any ideas
    thanks

This is not meant to be a snide comment, but I use Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper not TM. Used TM for a while but got tired of it, changed to CCC and then when Super Duper was updated for Leopard moved back to SD. I like it because (both SD and CCC) can be scheduled for whenever you want to run it and it only backs up files that have changed since last update. It also produces a bootable disk.

  • Clean Install and Restore from Time Machine

    Hi All,
Just after some advice, I'm thinking of doing a clean install of OS X when Mavericks comes out. I've been a Mac user for 13 years and have always used Migration Assistant to move my data over whenever I've bought a new Mac. I've never done a clean install before, but I've noticed over the years all the crap that's floating around my hard drive from old Mac's and various files from software I've removed years ago. I'm sure there's tons of rubbish that's accumulated over the 13 years.
Someone suggested clean installing OS X and then using Migration Assistant to load all my data back on from a Time Machine backup, but customise what I want to restore. I was told that if I don't choose to restore System Settings or something similar then it should just restore all my other stuff such as apps, files, itunes and iphoto library, etc. but would leave out all the rubbish. Is that the case?

Largely agreeing with baltwo, it's probably not worthwhile.

No.  If you transfer everything with Setup Assistant when the Mac first starts (preferred), or Migration Assistant later, and leave everything selected, it will transfer everything except OSX (which you just replaced) -- all your apps, user home folders, data, settings, etc.  There's rarely a point to that.
With either Assistant, you can omit some broad categories of things, but you can't "pick and choose" individual items even if you knew which ones you wanted.  See Using Setup Assistant on Mountain Lion or Lion.  Read the first few paragraphs, then scroll down to the Transfer Your Information windows and the pink boxes below them for details.  The windows and procedures for Mavericks may be somewhat different, but functionally the same.
If your Mac is just full of junk, be sure it's well backed-up just in case, then delete what you know you don't need.
If it's sluggish, after trying everything else, as a last resort you might want to do a clean install transferring everything except apps, then reinstall the extra and 3rd-party apps you want from the original discs or re-download them.  If you have a lot (you probably have more than you think), that can be a daunting task.  You''ll also need the serial numbers / purchase keys for them.

  • Cant restore from rescue and recovery discs

    Hi Guys
I bought a set of Windows 7 64bit Lenovo Rescue and Recovery Discs approx. 18 months ago so I could "restore" my X201 if and when the hard disk died, well the day has come and the discs dont work !!!
I have attempted to "restore" to the new hard disk 3 times and this is now starting to become a joke.
I boot the 1st disk, then I'm asked to insert the 2nd and then 3rd disks, I dont have a 4th disk but the process asks me for one. I believe that this is all working as it takes a number of hours and the drive lights is flickering except when I'm being asked to insert the next disc.
After the final re-boot. following the "Setting up drivers - 100%" on the screen I get a message box that says "Setup cant configure windows for your configuration", this is after I have had the "Starting Windows 7" booting on the screen.
    Has anyone had any experience with Win 7 64bit R & R discs for a X201 ???
    TIA
    NG

I assume your issue is laptop boot mode related.
In order to restore from Lenovo Recovery discs set laptop should be in legacy boot mode. Check out this option in BIOS setup. Unfortunately you'll can't change boot mode later. But this mode just speeds up a boot process only 2-3 secs.
Boot and installation processes don't inform the customer about error boot mode related.
Check out the 1st disc. If it consists a folder like BOOT and files like BOOTMGR and WINRE.WIM (all of them are for boot process) and folder like FACTORYRECOVERY - it's OK and your 1st data disk is bootable too.
If you had partition like Lenovo_Recovery (Q: usually) on your x201 with factory images you could make Factory_Recovery Discs set yourself w/o purchasing it from Lenovo.

  • Reinstalled Windows XP -- Want to reinstall Palmone software and restore previous data.

Hello,  I have a HP Pavillion PC computer with Windows XP Media addition.
My Palm device are a Zire 71 and a Palm Treo PDA.
I had to reinstall Windows XP with the factory restore disc.  This installed a new clean copy of Windows XP and left all pre-existing data from other programs on the drive.
My palmone software is still on the hard drive with the data, but the program obviously does not run on the new XP install.  The palm one software has to be reinstalled.
My Palm software is in a directory labeled Palmone.  I am unsure of the version of my software, but I have the original CD to install from.
I want to reinstall the Palm One software from the CD, and I want it to restore the original data from the existing files.  I have made copies of the existing path and all files to a backup drive.
Is it just as easy as reinstalling the software and the software will see the original files and incorporate the existing data?  Or will I need to copy something over from my copies of the old data into the new files?
Just want to make sure I'm doing this right the first time.
    Thanks in advance~
    Matt.
    Post relates to: Zire 71

Hello~ Thank you for your fast reply, I am impressed~!
I should have provided you with another detail, that the most current data is not on the devices, and that is why I am motivated to preserve the data that is on the hard drive.
Because the XP is a clean installation, there is no entry for uninstalling the current installation.  The current installation is simply there on the hard drive.
If I install the Palmone software brand new and sync with the devices, there will be data lost from the calendar / schedule / and contacts that was on the computer but not yet updated to the PDA.
Therefore it is imperative that I restore the data files from the old installation to the new.
I hope this clarifies.  Thanks again for you quick response.
    Matt.

  • Operating system install and restore, sort of

My Superdrive extension became corrupted and it wouldn't read any DVD's. Long story short, the answer was to erase and re-install Snow Leopard, then bring back my settings/software without bringing back System or Library folders. My SuperDrive now works and I've brought back a lot of my stuff, but I'm looking to bring back some more detailed info, such as widgets, old calendars etc. I couldn't use the "Restore from TimeMachine" option, because it would bring back the bad extension. So is there anyone out there who could describe a way of bringing back such info, without having to select each individual program and restore it, without bringing back the elusive bad extension? Thanks

Use the TM application to restore individual files. Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine." There is an article on how to restore files and folders.
See, also, User Tips for Time Machine for help with TM problems. Also you can select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to locate articles on how to use TM. See also Mac 101- Time Machine.

  • Update won't install and restore will not restore

    Hello,
I replied to another post that someone else had the same problem. Basically, I just got my 3g 1 day ago and was told to do the update. I ran the update and it gave me an error and did not install and said I need to restore. When I restored it said it could not restore after like an hour of it running (I guess trying to restore it). My phone will not turn on other than to just show an apple icon and a usb cord just below it. Any one else have any ideas or had this problem and how did you fix it.

To resolve this issue, provide a path of the same folder level that was used in the scan state. Do not use the full path in the
    command.
For example, if the MIG file is located at "C:\store\usmt\usmt.mig," the LoadState command
should be pointed to "C:\store" as follows:
    Loadstate.exe c:\store /auto

  • Install from scratch 3 times Mavericks but cannot used my restore it will just start for ever. After first install and restore mail and link between folder and files didn't work anymore. Now cant see my disk in finder. Help?

First install through regular update : never finishing the start after automatic restart
First install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - Used Migration Assistant to restore applications and data only - Mail crashed each 5 inutes and asked constantly for password of my 2 accounts, links between folders and files not OK and attaching a doc was complicated. I downloaded the update same problems
Second install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - Used Migration Assistant to restore applications and data only and settings : never finishing the start after automatic restart
Third install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - But no disk available in Finder
So far no Mac since 3 days ...
    Any help is welcome

Still struggling to understand why copying the entire root dir to a disk image and then restoring from that image did not, as expected, yield an identical system, and why I even had to reinstall after doing this.
Because there is a lot more going on under the hood than merely copying files.
The only way to do what you want is to use cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner.
My  advice is to rescue your personal files to a regular non-TimeMachine  external drive, Zero erase the ENTIRE drive and install OS X fresh and  update, then your programs from original sources and files from backup.
Then, make a bootable clone and you can copy that as many times as you want and each one is bootable.
