Reinstalled iTunes now do I have to erase ipod/iPhone to get them to sync?!

I had to uninstall iTunes from my computer and re-install in due to recent problems with iTunes and QuickTime. Now when I connect my iPod to my computer, it says that my iPod is associated with another iTunes and cannot be updated (unless I erase it and start over) Does this mean I'll ahve to erase and lose all of the great playlists I've made over the last two years? Isn't there some way I can get around this? In simple terms, please?! Thanks!
