Is Adobe Photoshop cs3/10 still being supported?  Mac crashed and need to get up and running again.  Thank you for any info on cs3. mayord

I believe if you were to ask Adobe Support they would tell you that CS3 is no longer supported by their services, if that is what you are refering to when you say "being supported".  That means they are not likely to offer assistance with you re-establishing it.
But you can probably re-establish it yourself.  If you need to download it there is a place for that available:
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc.

I have created a flyer in mac pages and need to get it to a printer to do a mass gloss printing. can someone advise how to do this.. should i and can i burn the document to a cd or dvd to give to the printer?
    Thanks

Some may need a CD while others may need a DVD or can use either medium.  Why not call your printer, tell them what you've got and ask them what they need to do the job you want done?  That way, you'll be working with what he/she needs to complete the job properly.

  • Reinstalling Mac OS, and failing once and again

Hi, I´m tryin to reinstall Mac OS Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
So this is what I´m doing:
    Reboot computer
    Hold CMD + R
When prompted, I log in using my apple.com user & password
Instead of start reinstalling Mac OSX, it shows up this message "You can only buy from Argentina store, redirecting you..."
So... that´s it. I cannot reinstall the software, I´m very frustrated!
Yes, my address is in Argentina but I bought the software, I should be able to reinstall a clean copy of the OS.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Am I doing somethign wrong?
    Thanks,
    Juan

    Worst support ever.
After sending the same question to "support", this is the answer from "Karlo":
Juan, please note that you can redownload apps you have purchased from the Mac App Store without incurring additional charges.
To learn how to redownload apps on the Mac App Store, please refer to the steps in this article:

  • REINSTALLING MAC OS X - NEED YOUR HELP!

    Hi everyone!
First, thank god for this forum...you people are the best in the world!
I have decided to reinstall my MAC OS X due to all the crap I have succeeded to accumulate on my computer and I want to start all over again.
But I want to do it right this time and take all the right security measures and other installments I should have but never got. Unfortunately I dont think the iBook Guide was comprehensive enough in these matters.
So after reinstalling OS X and Office, what do I need in:
    1. Safety and security measures? (firewall, virusprotection etc) (lately I keep getting that safari can´t show a valid certificate for presumably safe sites - which should be a problem)
    2. Basic and regular maintenance?
    3. Expander and/or compressors?
    4. Anything else I should have that I don´t know of?
Furthermore, I need assistance when it comes to installing software. It confuses me sometimes when I install something - the popup window asks me to move the software to applications - i do so, the window is still there and there is as well a extension of the software on my desktop. Which means that I have the software at several positions. Which should I keep and is the software installed with that simple drag and drop?
I know there are many questions here but I am - despite have had my iBook for 2 1/2 years - still a novice at computers and now I want to get everything right from the start in order to protect it.
Thank you so much for your help!
    Anna

    Hi anna,
What he says but if I may add the following...
Macs, at this moment in time, do not need virus protection for themselves. ClamXAV and others will however protect you from inadvertently passing on infected files to Windows users via email/network.
With regard to your 'installation' query, it generally goes like this:
    1) You download an app which appears as a .DMG on your desktop.
    2) It either self-opens or you double-click on it and it mounts just like any drive.
    3) The window opens with the graphic to drag the app to your Applications folder.
    4) You do so.
What happens then is that the application is copied from the .DMG (which stands for Disk Image) to your Applications folder. It is 'installed'. The original is still there as the .DMG. Once the app is copied to Applications you can close the popup window and eject the .DMG by clicking on the Eject symbol or by dragging it to the Trash. The Trash symbol magically changes to an Eject symbol in instances like this.
Once the .DMG has been ejected you can either move it to a safe location, (I have a folder for this purpose called, inspirationally, My Downloads ) or, if it is an app freely available on the web, you can delete it. That's up to you, it's your computer.
Sometimes an app may be in a .zip, this is just a compressed file.(See below) When you double-click on the .zip it decompresses to a .DMG. Both or one can be trashed after you have copied the app to your Applications folder and unmounted the disk image, again - it's up to you.
Re expanders/compressors, generally the common types of compressed files are decompressed by the OS when you double click on them. Occasionally one crops up that it can't. Having Stuffit Expander in your Applications folder will deal with these. Select the 'Download' button rather than the 'Buy Now'. The free version is all you need. Re compressors, I have never had the need but Stuffit will do this too.
Re the 'Safety Certificate' issue, I have occasionally come across this but it has never worried me. I usually by-pass it and move on. I haven't had any problems yet...
Re maintenance, Macs are good at looking after themselves without user intervention. Some say that 'Permissions Repair' should be done on a regular basis, some say before and after any software installation/Apple Software update. It doesn't do any harm to run it as often as you like but, mostly, it won't actually repair anything. I tend to run it before/after major Apple Security or System Updates and leave it at that.

Much of it is probably old hat to you if you've had your iBook for 2½ yrs but there's sure to be something of interest. Besides, it may reassure you of what you have learned!
Lastly, are you sure that an Erase and Install is the right thing for you? There are ways of getting rid of the 'crap' without an E&I. The Trash can is a good place to start (and don't forget to empty it!)
    All the best,
    Adrian

  • Just Switched To  Mac's and Need Help With A Few Issues!

    Hi All,
I finally did it and switched to a Mac!! Never thought it would happen as I always felt guilty about the cost but after 5 laptops crashing on me - well, I just could not take it anymore! I managed to get a fairly good deal on a 15" Macbook Pro - 2.2/120GB version. I still don't know much about the mac way but am trying to learn so any help would be appreciated!
1). Is there any kind of video tutorial (preferably free!) that I can use that will help me learn the Ma OS X? I have Tiger 10.4.11 on my MBP (Did you hear that - MY MBP!!!)
2). AOL Assured me that they fully support Mac before I purchased (only 5 times!) but after I had bought it - they then told me that they do not! I got the AOL disk for Mac but it kind of ***** - features are missing etc. Does anyone in the UK run their Mac's with AOL and does it run as per normal? Any advice with AOL & Mac?
3). AOL also told me - hey, no probs - of course you can transfer all your old emails, favourites folders, personal filing cabinet from a PC to a Mac - but then, after I bought it - the so called dedicated Mac Experts at AOL tell me that simply is not possible - What advice can anyone give me who has switched from PC to Mac with AOL and who needed to transfer all their stuff over? AOL tells you totally different things depending on who you talk to and even from what their web page state! I am really fed up with them!
4). If I am ever successful in getting all my many years worth of data from AOL on a PC to a Mac, I am really intent of changing ISP's - what are the best ones for Mac that offer good Mac support, good deals and no charges for telephone support?
5). I was initially happy with Tiger as again, AOL assured me they supported it but not Leopard (even their website says so) and as I stupidly thought that it must be true (we are talking AOL here!). Now I know that they don't support anything Mac, I am contemplating moving to Leopard - I am a little cautious as I heard there were/are many bugs and unhappy leopard experiences - have the majority of these been solved yet and is it advisable to change to Leopard or should I wait until an updated version comes out?
6). My MBP was originally bought in the US but is registered to my name in the UK. it has 6 months Apple warranty left and I wish to buy Applecare. Apple says it 'recommends' buying Applecare in the country at which the item is registered (not bought, as I understand it). Does that mean, if I buy Applecare in the USA, Apple UK will still accept it and service my MBP as they would do any other or will I have to have the hassle of sending the thing to the USA if it needs attention? Applecare USA T&C's state only for the 50 States & Canada and Applecare UK state only for the UK & EU. Both however state international servicing?! I am a bit confused on this one. I travel a lot and need to know, that any Applecare I buy will not then be limited to just the places they state in the T&C's. As It reads to me, Applecare purchased in the USA/Canada will not cover the UK/Europe/ROTW and vice versa. Is this true or am I missing something or just plain thick?
5). I really wish to upgrade the 120GB HDD. My understanding is that it must be done by either Apple (who charge really silly money) or if correct, at an "Authorized Apple Service Provider" who of course will be much cheaper. If true, does this mean at ANY authorized apple service provider on the planet or just ones in which the item is registered? If I do the upgrade with a service provider, will Apple then also service the new HDD if something goes wrong as per normal anywhere in the world or will they then say, sorry, will not service the new HDD and you have to go back to the place where you had it installed, even though it was one of their authorized service centers? (that would really suck)!
6). The spelling and dictionary (and a few other things) are set to US English - how can I set to UK English? I have tried but to no avail so far.
    7) What and how should I set the Firewall settings so I will not get attacks by any form of malware? (I do not know much about this area and what the implications mean)!
Well, that's it so far - please bear my ignorance, I am so new to Mac's and hope this to be one of the smarter decisions I have made in life! Already I have strange sensation that I never had with all those years of Microsoft & PC's - I kinda feel reassured, safe, that if I have problems, they will get sorted, My life will now be easier and not having to worry so much about crashes, viruses, trojans etc, gives me a sense of liberation and contentment almost - very strange feeling but a **** good one! (if only the women in my life were like that)!
Thank You All From A PC to Mac Switcher (and NO! I do not feel guilty or scared anymore)!
    SuaveBhav!

I can help you with your questions about AppleCare, and can also reassure you that both the macbook pro and Leopard will be worth your investment and the time you are putting into figuring out how to get your data across. I switched from windows when I bought my macbook a year and a half ago and would not use any other system now. The other day I completed the transition by erasing parallels and Windows from my system entirely.
As for AppleCare, you can get warranty care anywhere in the world, no matter where you buy your AppleCare. Mine was bought and is registered in the US, I live in Slovakia, and have had it serviced several times in Austria and Slovakia under the warranty without any problems at all. There are differences, however, in exactly what the warranty covers from place to place, in accordance with the law in each place that AppleCare is issued. Even though I live in the EU, my agreement with Apple is an American one, and the American guarantees hold. If EU law would demand that Apple fix more things, for instance, than American law does, I could not get those things repaired under my agreement, and vice versa.
Basically, though, I understand my agreement with AppleCare to be that they will fix all problems/damage that are not my fault free of charge for two years after my initial one-year warranty runs out, and that is good enough for me.

  • HT3382 I have an early 2006 Mac Mini and need to connect it to a VGA display.  What connector should I use?

I have an early 2006 intel core solo Mac Mini (locted in India) and need to connect it to a VGA display.  I have looked at the support articles but can't figure out what adapter to use.

There was a DVI to VGA adapter included with the early 2006 mini.  The one that I have looks like this
You should be able to buy one, although it's not currently listed in the US Apple online store.

  • Reinstalling Mac OSX and Pro Application Support

I just reinstalled OSX today and ran all the updates available - every other application I've tried is fine - except for Logic Pro. (9.0.2) The error message reads:
This version of Logic Pro requires Pro Application Support 5.0 (883.0) or newer.
    ProKit: 722.0 (OS BUILD 9L31a)
One of the updates I downloaded was Pro Application Support, but Software Update says it's version 1.0. I don't remember installing this stuff when I first set up Logic - where can I get 5.0 again?
    Thanks

  • Brand new to the Mac World and NEED SOME HELP with startup disk issues

Hello everyone. I am a new Mac user and I purchased my mac on ebay. It's an iMac that came with tiger 10.4.11. I wanted to get a fresh start on the computer, since the person who had it before me did not erase all of his stuff. I didn't know what to do so I got a startup disk/install disk off ebay also. When I go to install it says "software cannot be installed on this computer." Before I bought the software, I had called the apple store and they said it should be fine to buy any install software to put on the computer. If I could get any help it would be appreciated. I had read previous threads that I should hold down c when I start up (didn't work) or that I should select archive or erase and install (I never got these options when I went to install).

A warm welcome to the Discussions!
What iMac is it? I only ask as the Retail Tiger CD/DVDs don't work on IntelMacs, only PPC, (G3, G4, G5 Macs).
Sorry what you were told by the Apple Store, but if it's a Gray CD/DVD then it is Machine specific as Neil stated.
Sooo, what exact iMac is it, and what does it say on the CD/DVD?

  • Selling my mac mini and need help

I know this question has been asked over and over but im selling my mac mini and have a couple of questions
How do i remove my changes and default to startup settings for new onwer i do not have a DVD/CD drive
My mac was purchased in May of this year .
also will it default to mountain loin 10.8 i installed in July ?

If your mac mini came with lion, the installer should be in launchpad.  There are many tutorials online on how to how make a bootable usb or dvd from this file.
    1. Backup your important files.
    2. Boot into the usb or dvd.
    3. There will be a screen where it asks you to choose a disk, and there should be an option to open disk utility (maybe in the top taskbar)
    4. Format the hard drive.
    5. Install Lion.
    6. When the buyer turns the mac on, they will get a screen where they get to set up their new mac
    Hope this helps.

  • Lightroom CC syncing and deleting across Mac, iPhone, and iPad Lightroom apps

I have searched for nearly an hour for some answers and find the Lightroom support sections massively confusing, even contradictory (example here:  Adobe Lightroom on mobile FAQ In one answer it says that "Lightroom on mobile syncs original JPEG and PNG files that originate from your mobile device in the Creative Cloud" and in another question right below it says "Since Lightroom on mobile does not store your original image files, but instead syncs Smart Previews").  I need some basic questions answered around how these various platforms inter-operate [BTW, I am running latest OS and App versions across the board]:
    1) Do images taken with my iPhone automatically get uploaded to Creative Cloud (CC) or not and are they at full resolution? [Seems like they sync once I open the app, but not sure of resolution.  Would be good to know what is supposed to trigger the syncing, e.g., opening the app, taking the picture, etc.]
    2) Once an image is uploaded to CC from the phone, and I can see it in Lightroom desktop, are changes made to the image from either device's version of Lightroom automatically synced, i.e., I will see the changes made from any device on any other device the next time I log into CC from that device? [It seems like this is the way it works, but again not sure]
    3) Assuming the whole image is uploaded intact from the phone to the CC, if I delete the image in the Apple Photos app, will that in any way affect the CC cloud image?  I am not deleting it from within any Lightroom app at this point -- just the native IOS app. [Does not appear to be in any way connected -- which is both good and bad -- must delete in multiple places now]
    4) If I delete the photo in the CC from the desktop, does it delete the native photo on the phone as well, or do I need to delete it in both places to get rid of it entirely? [It would seem that when I delete the photo from the Lightroom iPhone app, after it has been synced, it does not delete it from the Lightroom desktop version -- I still see it there]
    5) I assume videos taken with the phone are not uploaded -- is that right? [They are not loaded to the CC as best as I can tell]
    6) Do the iPhone photos that get uploaded to CC end up only as preview-like images on the desktop version of Lightroom, or is the entire original resolution image downloaded to the desktop?  If it is not downloaded, how do I export a full resolution, modified image from Lightroom desktop (or from the iPhone for that matter)?
    7) I am not seeing any of the 25,000+ photos stored on my desktop version of Lightroom getting synced to the cloud -- isn't supposed to sync a preview image, and if so, how do I enable that?  What happens to changes to that preview image made from the phone -- do they get made back on the desktop version of the image through Lightroom?
Thanks for the help.  I wish Adobe made this clearer up front so as to avoid any accidental deletions and to ensure the products are interoperating the way they should.

Let me try to answer your questions.
    1)
collections created within the Lr Mobile app will be automatically synced to the back-end. You can add photos manually from your camera roll or enable a collection for "Auto Add". With that all future camera shots will be automatically imported to Lr Mobile and synced
    2)
correct. changes will be synced from Lr Mobile to Lr Desktop - back&forth
    3) local camera roll deletion is not connected to the Cloud back-end. But be carefull that the import/sync is finished before you trigger that.
    4)
as answerd before. the cloud back-end is not connected to the device camera roll
    5)
    video is not supported yet
    7)
original resolution images will be  downloaded to Lr Desktop. Preview images will be shown in the Lr Web view Adobe Lightroom
    8)
when you create a collection within Lr Desktop and add your photos you would like to sync, then you can enable this collection for sync. As soon your are signed-in and start the sync (via the top left activity panel) you will notice a little checkbox beside the collection. When you check this sync start to run. Lr Deskop generates smart previews and uploads these to the back-end (plus thumbnail previews + meta-data). When you open up Lr Mobile app and you would like to make an edit, the Lr Mobile app loads the smart preview form the back-end and syncs back the meta-data or edit setting.
Hope that helps you to start.
    Guido
