Reinstalled office 2011 now nothing works

I had office 2011 installed for 2 accounts on my intel iMac.  Opened a new account and thought I had to  install Office again.  Once I did nothing worked.  When I tried to start Outlook I got an error message saying I had to rebuild the database.  I did and it still won;t work.  When I try Word, Excel or Powerpoint I also get an error saying something is wrong with the program and it has to close.  I tried to uninstall Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.  I couldn't find a way to uninstall Office 2011.  Closed the account and went back to the other account that was working before.  sure enough I had an error and had to rebuild the database.  Worked but I still can't access any Office programs.  Can anyone help me dig myself out of this?

First Microsoft provides an uninstaller, it's in the office folder. Second, you might get better answers at Microsoft's community forums since your problem is with their software and not your iMac http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us

    No doubt the PC is missing several key drivers for the hardware.
    The devices needing drivers will be listed in the device manager under an Other Devices category and they will all have little ! marks next to them.
    One of them is probably the ethernet controller.
    You need this driver for that so you can connect to the internet by wire.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 won't work with Mountain Lion update

    I have an early 2011 version Macbook Pro.  Until yesterday I have been running Lion, I updated to Mountain Lion last night and now my Microsoft Office 2011 won't work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    When I try to open any MS Office program or file I get an error message that reads "Microsoft Office cannot open because of a problem.  Check with the developer to make sure Microsoft (Outlook, Word etc.) works with this version of OS X you may need to reinstall the application..."  the problem is I bought this Mac used and I don't have the disc to reinstall the application.   I've gone to the MS Office 2011 Mac website and downloaded a service pack and an update (the only two things available to me) but that still doesn't help.  Where would I find the update you are describing?

    As per the information and details provided by you, to get Outlook email indexed by spotlight after reinstalling Office 2011, please follow these steps: -
    Outlook provides a custom importer to Spotlight to index email. It is typically found in:
    "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Microsoft Outlook.app/Contents/Library/Spotlight/Microsoft Outlook.mdimporter",
    You can use the command
    /usr/bin/mdimport –L to list all installed importers. When I did that I saw that the importer from the old installation of Outlook was still installed because it was still in the trash can. When I tried to manually import an email using the
    command usr/bin/mdimport –d2 /[ path ]/x00_138.olk14Message I saw that it was failing to load the importer from the trash.
    Emptying the trash fixed the issue. Wish there was a way to selectively empty the trash without deleting everything.
    Once I emptied the trash,  had to force Spotlight to reindex the email folder by adding the /Users/jim/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder to Privacy
    tab of Spotlight System Settings, and then removing it again. After spotlight reported the indexing was complete (via the Spotlight dropdown in the upper right) the email was all indexed again.

    Do you see anything on the TV?
    If you just see your desktop, then your MacBook is defaulting to extended display mode. Try pressing the Command + F1 keys to see if you get the menu bar and other icons.

    There may be a problem with UI files inside system directories, so your files are not 100% lost. You need to check it.
    Do you have a recovery flash drive for OS X, bootable OS X flash drive? If so, you can boot iMac from that drive and just fix the system on your computer.
    If you don't have, you should create it (at least for safety in similar situations) with another mac or pc.
    Off topic: It happened to me too when I tried to replace some textures in Yosemite with textures from Mountain Lion and the process went wrong. So don't be sure that the whole system is ruined, it may just be the graphical part that crashed, but your documents are ok.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 fails to work on new iMac

    I received my new iMac in mid December, and I used the Migration Assistant to move everything. Unsurprisingly, MS Office failed to work. I paid MS another $12 so I could download a new copy of MS Office 2011 and tried installing it. Installation succeeded, but every time I opened a Word or Excel file, it crashed.
    I deleted Office from both iMacs, old and new, including all of the MS files hidden everywhere. Reinstalled but the same thing happens. Deleted everything, including the downloaded disk image, downloaded it again, and reinstalled.
    Same result--crash!
    I have no idea what to try next. My wife is beginning to doubt my technical expertise. I've tried to mollify her with OpenOffice and Pages, but she is getting frustrated and angry.
    Any ideas on what to try? Please save my marriage!

    Your original post states:

    I have no idea what files you have deleted, and what files have been left behind, you have no guarantee that you deleted every single file from the thousands of files Office installs, a single preference file left on your machine is enough to cause Office to fail.
    As you  made a serious  error in using Migration to use Office on a new machine, I did not take as absolute certainty you  made a proper and complete uninstall of Office.
    If you need Office to work quickly, your option now is to clean install your Mac; 
    back up your work files
    erase the hard drivereinstall the operating system
    install Office correctly
    You will be up and running in 2 hours.

  • Installed QT 7.3 - now nothing works

    I've been reading some of the posts and am having similar problems with QuickTime 7.3. Unfortunately, I upgraded to 7.3 and now nothing is working. I'm having issues with playback of QT videos, FCP exports and so on.
    A common error message has been "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie."
    Does anyone have an idea of what this may be? Is there a way to uninstall QT 7.3 and go back to the good old days.
    BTW for any of you video pros who use HDLog - the new QuickTime update also causes issues with this program.

    Yep, Flash Player 11 is crashing in Firefox, Safari and Chrome- I have tried reinstalling it, turning of the system version, and the built in borwser version, uninstalling, reinstalling an older one,
    there is a big problem with this, and none of the borwser cos. or adobe seem to be doing anything. I am on MacOS (10.6.8), and since the update to Shockwave Flash it has failed every time.

It worked perfectly under Snow Leopard but I can not open the Office files neither Office programs with Mountain Lion. Trying to solve the problem I have complately updated to Office 2011 (with Snow Leopard I used Office 2008 but it fails with Mountain Lion) but the problem remain the same.

    This is the kind of message report that I get when I try to open word, excel or power point programs...
    It is exactly the same if I try to open directly a file with the properly extension (.doc, .xls, and so on...)
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times following Microsoft instructions for uninstalled process...
    And finally I power on the computer on "safe mode". When I did this I was able of opening the program (word in this case) the first time I click on it. But, it only works that first time. I was unable of opening the program more times.
    But, even starting the computer in "safe mode", if I try to open a program (word for example) just by clicking a file directly, then the same reporting error appear and not the file neither the program start to work.

    Well, I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch retina display with 2.3 GHz quad core and 8GB of RAM + 256GB Flash memory. Since i am a school boy and need an office application, I bought a genuine Microsoft office 2011 for Mac version 14.0.0.0 software. After I upgraded my OS X from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, my powerpoint's slideshow feature always crashed whenever I started the slide show. I've already reinstall my office software and it still doesn't work out my problem. Could anyone of you help me?

    The version of Office for Mac (Office 2011) is the same in O365 as what you have. You simply need to update.
    Install these updaters:
    Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Service Pack 1 (14.1.0)
    Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.4.3 Update (requires 14.1.0 or newer)
    (Restart after the 14.1.0 and again after running 14.4.3 updater.)
    Microsoft Autoupdater (MAU) 2.3.6 Download
    Microsoft Error Reporting for Mac 2.2.9  Download 
    (Note for the MAU and MERP updaters you do NOT have to restart after updating_
    Install Basics
    Not only should Safari be quit but all browsers and hidden Microsoft processes like the Microsoft Database daemon and SyncServicesAgent.
    Log Out/In
    Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
    Log in and hold down the Shift key (this disables all startup items including the hidden ones)
    Why Restart?
    The Restart after updater will force a file that stores the version info to update. This should happen automatically but sometimes it doesn't. The next updater will fail and you will have to re-install Office. The restart is a quick step that will save time in the long term.

  • Restore didn['t go well, now nothing works

    I had the same problem alot of others apparently are having where the apps don't work and lost all the music. I did a complete restore, or tried to. First itunes downloaded the software (2-1/2 hours), then back up and firmware thing, whatever. I started the whole thing at 8:00pm. By time I went to bed at 12:30 the green bar was about 1/4 way through the restore process. I woke up about 3:30 and checked on it. The screen was now back to the itunes liabrary. I figured it was done. ot much happed with the iphone as the apps still didn't work and I still had no music. So I unplugged the cable and replugged it so it would sync. No. The reset phone screen came up. Rather than start from scratch I tried to "continue" button. That initated "restore" again. At 5:30 when I got up, again, it was only 1/2 way through the restore process. I positioned the mouse arrow right where the green bar ended and proceeded to get ready for work. By 6:40 it hadn't moved at all. At 7:00 I unplugged it and had to go to work. No the phone is just giving me the green battery. I was able to turn it off and/or just have the apple logo. Nothing works now.
    Anyone have any ideas opn how long the restore should have taken or was it stuck and what I should do now?
    It's the original iphone, and I've had nothing but problems since the upgrade (freeing up, having to reset network setting to access the net and mail, now no apps or music and now restoring being a nightmare). Seriously, it took God only 7 days to create the world, so they say, so why so long to restore?

    Tribecom, when I hold down both buttons I get the apple logo. Hold them down again it shuts off. When I pulled the plug this morning it was the green battery. I did a full restore, so maybe it would take a little longer than a sync restore, but geez, that long? I also think it got hung up half way through. And since when I turned on the computer after letting it go last night, the library indicated to me that it did all it needed to do. The Set up new iphone/Restore screen appeared. Rather than start from scratch I tried the "continue" key which took me to the "restoring" mode. Between 3:30am and 7:00am I'd think that process should have completed itself.
    Someone on another thread had a similar problem, or a problem with reinstalling and suggested setting up as a new phone. I may try that tonight...while on hold for the techies and see what that gets me.
    As of now nothing on it works...it's either the apple or a blank screen.
