Reinstalled Xcode Problems trashing PackageMaker

I recently re-installed XCode because I had issue with it running.
It moved the old files to the trash. Most of the files (developer folder) emptied out of trash with no issues BUT PageMaker.
It does not seem to trash that file. Can someone help me out?
Thanks,
Kevin

Oh yea it says that PageMaker is in use but I cannot see that it is on and I rebooted several times.
Thanks,
Kevin

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Unfortunately I did already the case "delete preferences" but nothing!
Also, when crashes do not give me any reports!

  • Reinstalling xcode 4.1

I am having trouble reinstalling xcode 4.1. I delete the Install XCode 4.1.app file, so I can't just do that.
Is it possible to reset the flag on the app store that insists that I already installed XCode 4.1?
    Thanks
    WF

I haven't had to verify these yet, so you're on your own:
    • Check /Library/Receipts/ to see if there is an Xcode Receipt - if so, move it to the desktop and then hit the store again.
    • In the Applications directory (or LaunchPad?) is there an icon named 'Install Xcode' ? If so, delete that and then try again.
    Good luck in any case.

  • 'make' not found - how to Reinstall Xcode?

After upgrading to Mt.Lion and installing the latest Xcode from App Store, make has disappeared.
    /Users/chap$ locate make | grep '/make$'
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/make
    /Users/chap/private/www.gtoal.com/wordgames/jacobson+appel/PROBLEM_SOLVER/make
    /usr/lib/logo/helpfiles/make
    /Users/chap$
Wondering if the Xcode installation failed.  At any rate, several posts on the web suggest reinstalling Xcode - which the App Store won't do because I already have it.
There's no "Install Xcode.app" that I can find on my system.  Nor do I find anything xcode-related in /Library/Receipts.
    Thanks,
    Chap

Yeah, no, I guess I didn't get that tweet.
Thanks for the hint!  Everything is now fine.  For the sake of anyone else following this thread (and I will stand corrected if this is not precisely accurate):
I don't know when this was introduced, but to get command line tools in Mountain Lion OS X 10.8, you need to not only install Xcode, but also use Xcode > Preferences > Downloads > Components and install Command Line Tools.

  • Xcode problems with building

I've just started using c++ again so I upgraded to the newest version of XCode but nothing is working. At first when I compiled it would build fine and run but then when I changed a header it would not recognize the change and run without compiling, so I would have to do a clean and rebuild of the whole project. This problem is gone now because now it won't even build. It just says build successful and then when I go to run it says "No launchable executable present". I've tried uninstalling the developer tools and reinstalling but this did not fix the problem. I think I might have to reinstall the whole operating system and see if this works. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this before I reinstall anything?
    Thanks,
    vbuser
    emac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi vbuser
If it happens on every project then Xcode is a likely suspect, but it's not the only possibility. Before de-installing and re-installing, I'd try one more action:
-Try a build, then check the build transcript to see if it gives any clues. To actually see the build transcript, you need to go to the Build window opened by Xcode, then find the tool bar in the middle and click on the third icon (it's next to a small tick and yellow triangle). This will show you the actual output from the command script and the compilers. Any error messages revealed could be an important clue.
    - Try creating a new user and seeing if you get the same problem.
If none of this helps and you decide to re-install then I recommend you de-install Xcode by running the uninstall-devtools.pl perl script, then use Disk Utility to repair permissions, then download a clean disk image from Apple and re-install everything.
Please let us know what happens and whether or not it fixes the problem
    Good luck

  • Reinstalling printers; problems with .kext files

After a long and complicated process of repairing damage I caused by inadvertently resetting file permissions (don't ask!), everything on my MacBook Pro (2011) is running smoothIy but I am left with 3 unresolved error messages.
Each one says that three extensions were installed incorrectly and need to be reinstalled.
The three affected files are "hp_io_printerclassdriver_enabler.kext", "EPSONUSBPrintClass.kext" and "CiscoVPN.kext."
I don't care about (don't use)  Cisco VPN, but I do have and use an HP Officejet 7310 and an Epson Stylus Photo RX595.
The Officejet is not working; I don't have access to the Epson right now (It's at my office) but I imagine that it's not working either.
I have deleted and re-installed the Officejet printer (several times) but the printer still won't print. (It's recognized by the print queue but an error message says that the driver was improperly installed.) I've downloaded the most recent software from HP and tried installing that, but get the same result.
I'm running the Officejet as a network (Bonjour) printer through my router.
Curiously, I also have an HP Laserjet 1200 that's connected to my desktop (not my MBP). I can print to that from the MBP.
I've looked at all three files. They all say that I have "read and write" permissions.
I have reset permissions several times, using both the versions of Disk Utility on my Hard Drive and using the 10.6 install disk.
Nothing I do lets me get rid of the errors or lets me print to my Officejet.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

PS-Using the HP Utility, I am able to successfully print a "test page." I just can't print from an app. I've tried documents from both Microsoft Word and Preview.

    The error can mean:
The extensions do not have the correct permissions.
The extensions are incompatible with the running version of OS X.
For the former the problem can be corrected (usually) by simply using Disk Utility to repair permissions then doing one or two restarts. If the error continues to appear then it's the latter problem. To correct this you need to uninstall all the software associated with these drivers as well as the drivers themselves. See:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.
Download Apple's Apple Epson Printer Drivers 2.7 update and install the new drivers. Then open Print & Fax preferences, click inside the box with the installed printers list, CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Reset Print System from the contextual menu. This should clean out all the old installed driver software. Now, re-ADD the printers selecting the drivers from the newly installed Epson drivers package. If no driver exists for your model, then you need to visit Epson's driver support site to see if they have new software listed as compatible with Snow Leopard.

  • Reinstalling iTunes, problem with duplicates

I have an iMac 2GHZ running OS X v10.5.7 which is having multiple longstanding problems with freezing/errors and no significant problems show up after running disc utilities (repairing permissions etc..) or Tech Tool. Also my itunes music folder is full of duplicates that don't show up on my i tunes duplicate or "Dupin" duplicates list. iTunes library shows 43 GB space used and iTunes Music folder shows 95 GB space used.
I would like to start from scratch, reformat my hard drive and reinstall iTunes to see if it solves most of the problems. I am using Time Machine for backup but also can make a bootable clone with Super Duper. I wonder if it would be better to restore my iTunes from an iPod since none of the duplicates exist there.
    Suggestions?

  • Reinstalling Xcode

I have Xcode 3.2.3 currently installed on my Mac. Its somewhat buggy so I decided to update it to v. 3.2.5. But what is the correct procedure to remove v.3.2.3? Clearly moving its icon to the trash doesn't do it.

Thank you, both. I'll try that command line, etresoft. As for the TM, I don't have an external drive. I run it on a MacBook.
PS. On the sidenote, do you know when they may release xcode 4 in a final build? Maybe I should just wait for it.

  • Problem trashing folder from Applications

I just discovered that I can't move or trash anything out of my applications folder. MAC help just says I have to be logged on as an administrator to do that, but I am. I can do other administrator things, but not that. I made sure the permissions were ok in the Get Info window, eg., that I was the owner. I was able to trash the contents of the folder, but not the folder. I then discovered that I couldn't move anything in the applications folder, meaning, if I want to get rid of some small program, like Mac Solitaire, which isn't in a folder, I can't! This all happened right after I downloaded an update for the Limewire file sharing program and discovered after I installed it that it wasn't working properly, so decided to trash it. That was the one I had the initial trouble with. What could be going on here? Have I caught a virus or something? I haven't tried to remove anything from the applications folder for such a long time that I don't know if there was a problem before I downloaded Limewire. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi sedona76,
Though it appears some permissions are correct, have
    you done a "repair permissions?"
If not, run Disk Utility and repair permissions (go
    Utilities>Disk Utility>First Aid>Repair Disk
    Permissions.)
Now try to trash the program you desire to delete.
    Please post back with results.
    Hope this helps.

Thank you, thank you Bob. That worked just fine.

  • Cannot Uninstall and Reinstall Xcode - Options only given to Upgrade

*Problem in Installing Xcode 3.1.4 on OSX 10.6.2 Macbook Air*
When I try and install Xcode the installer takes me to the Custom Install on HD. It will only upgrade Xcode. System Tools, Unix Development Support and Mac OSX 10.3.9 Support are all greyed out. Only Web Objects can be selected. I have uninstalled the previous version with:

While in a folder on my desktop I am viewing items as cover flow.  I have trashed quite a few but the image of what has been trashed still appears. the file name changes because the item has been trashed but the image of what has been trashed stays there instead of showing the image of what the file actually is.  Very confusing and creates a workflow problem.
    Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem. looks like a bug.
    1. tracks are marked as compilation
    2. grouped together (same name used for album name and grouping for all tracks)
    3. in preferences i have also checked group compilations together.

your serial number is for an upgrade version.  you need to prove you have a qualifying upgrade product.
after you enter your upgrade serial number and the installer failing to find a previous version, you should be given the option to choose the previous version and enter its (the older version's) serial number.
if that's not working, what version are you trying to install and why didn't the above work?
