Reinstalling a student edition software in the event of computer crash

Hi,
Will I be able to re-install a student edition adobe software to a new computer if my current laptop crashes and work no longer?

Hi Urvidave,
Yes you will be able to install the application on two computers.
You may read more regarding activation of Adobe Application here - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html

I have reinstalled cs4 student edition afther a deactivation by adobe but can not veiw ORF or DNG files in bridge i am runing windows 7

Keep in mind that if your camera is newer than the last released version of Camera Raw (5.7) for Photoshop CS4, Adobe does provide a free solution for compatibility, as Curt has mentioned, through the use of the free DNG Converter application.
The way that works is this:
    1.  You get your raw images from your new camera into a folder on your computer.
    2.  You run the latest DNG Converter application and choose the folder.
    3.  It converts the entire folder full of images to .DNG files.
    4.  You open a DNG file as you would an older raw file, with your old version of Photoshop.
While the DNG Converter provides you a way to continue to use your older Photoshop software with a new camera, keep in mind that there are significant improvements in the raw converter in the latest version of Photoshop that may allow you to make better images out of your raw files if you do choose to upgrade Photoshop.

  • Transferring Photoshop CS6 Extended for Windows Student Edition software from a Windows PC to a Mac

I bought Photoshop CS6 Extended for Windows Student Edition for my PC online last year from Curry's PC World. I was told at the time of purchase that I would be able to transfer this software from my PC onto a Macbook. I have now purchased the Macbook and would like to transfer the software from my old Windows PC onto my new Macbook. Please could I have some assistance in doing so. Thank you!

You didn't mention who told you you could transfer the software, but I suspect it was not anyone from Adobe.  Versions are platform specific so there is little chance of installing the Windows version on a Mac without the use of a Windows emulator of some kind.  Since it is CS6, you do have the option to apply for a platform swap.  See the following...
    Change product platform or language
You can swap languages/platforms for a latest version product if you follow the instructions at the following link:

  • Student edition use in the future?

I'm planning on purchasing the Student/teacher edition of Photoshop CS6. I would be installing it on my laptop to use for the next year or so. If I get a desktop computer after I graduate, would I be able to install the software on that computer? I know that it can be installed on 2 devices, but once I'm not a student anymore....?

Yes, you can keep on using STE software after you graduate.
    http://prodesigntools.com/difference-between-adobe-cs5-student-editions-vs-regular.html
"Since Creative Suite 5, all Student and Teacher Editions can be utilized for personal as well as commercial use, for all academic customers worldwide. So yes, you can sell your services or anything you create, or use these products in developing a side business or online venture. And after graduation or completion of coursework, you can continue to use the perpetual software on your personal systems; there is no usage expiration and those tools will continue to work."
The real, practical differences between the STE and full commercial versions are some of the licensing conditions, as explained in that article e.g. you cannot resell the software, it can only be used on your own personal computer and you're not eligible for special deals such as the Photoshop Photography Program https://creative.adobe.com/plans/offer/photoshop+lightroom
Be aware also that, like all perpetually licensed Adobe software, the STE version comes with a platform specific serial number: Windows only or Mac only. So your future desktop must run the same operating system as your current laptop.
Cloud versions of the software run on both Mac and/or Windows since they're authenticated via your Adobe ID - no serial number is involved.

  • Purchased Teacher and Student edition, but with the trial expired, I cannot use any products?

I bought the Teacher and Student edition (one year plan, prepaid), but after the trial expired, I cannot use any products. It asks for a serial number, which to the best of my knowledge, I never received. Is there something I missed?
    Thanks in advance.

Trimatirate you will need to locate the serial number you received with your license to use the software for a year.  If it is registered then it will be available under your account at http://www.adobe.com/.  You can find additional details at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.

  • What is the best way to properly activate the Lightroom Student Edition? Is the Student Edition a permanent program or does it deactivate after 2-4 years like some other programs that are student versions?

I just purchased the student edition of Lightroom! I am very excited to use it and start creating beautifully edited photos but I'm a little unsure about a few things. It says I have to prove my eligibility to use the student edition which won't be an issue but what is the quickest and easiest way to submit this proof? Also I am concerned that the student edition will be temporary and I will have bought this program only to have it expire at the end of 4 years like some other programs that are student versions. Is the student edition of Lightroom a permanent program that I will have for life or will it deactivate after I graduate?

When I purchased my academic version of Lightroom, it was a package set. Inside was a yellow card with the instructions on how to verify that I qualified for the academic discount. I submitted my academic e-mail address and other info as requested on that yellow card. Within 5 min. I received my serial number. Very straightforward. I had no problems whatsoever.
There is only one version of the Lightroom program itself. The only difference is in the licensing and pricing. If you qualify for the academic discount, by all means use it. You are purchasing the same Lightroom program that anyone else does. It doesn't expire, there are no missing features, and it can be upgraded when new major versions are released. Those upgrades will cost the same as they cost for any other person, regardless of how they purchased Lightroom.
You can confidently move ahead with obtaining your serial number. The only thing you are doing differently is paying a lower initial purchase price because of your academic status.

  • Photo Editing Software for the Intel Mac

I've just gotten a Nikon D50 and am trying to figure out what software to purchase to use on my Intel Imac. Obviously something that runs natively would be ideal, but "good" performance would be enough. I'm just an amateur photographer looking to improve my pictures.
Aperture is pricey and has gotten mixed reviews. Nikon is coming out with new Capture software next month (NX I believe), but it doesn't look like it will run natively on the Intel Mac.
Photoshop Elements might be the ticket, though of course it won't run natively now. It will, I believe, allow for "spot" editing, something that the still-beta Lightroom won't do, and something I think I want to be able to do.
Should I consider Boot Camp and PSE for Windows? Would that be a better experience than running the Mac version on my Intel machine? Looks like there's better pricing on the Windows version (at least on Ebay) than the Mac version, but so far I have resisted Boot Camp...hoping to stay out of the Windows world as much as possible.
Is there something else I should be looking at?
I know I'm all over the map here...I'm kind of confused, and just want to get to work making some of these pictures look better. Thanks.

I have a similar question. I don't think I need all the power of Photoshop CS or GIMP, but is there a photo editing package that can change backgrounds of photos? For example, change a black background to white? Can iPhoto do this? Can Photoshop Elements run on iMac Intel? Can PS Elements do this kind of editing? Thanks.

  • Other photo editing software for the Mac

Couldn't really find a category to put this question, so please bare with me. I have read some stuff about iPhoto (any version?) sometimes giving problems. Was wondering what other kinds of photo editing software is good to use on Tiger. PhotoShop Elements etc.? I have a Sawtooth 400mHz with 620MB of RAM. My Tiger is the original release: 10.4, but plan on updating to a newer version shortly.
    Thanks.

To add to Larry's list: take a look at Pixelmator also.
These are some of the system requirements for iLife 08:
    "System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor.
iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster). iMovie HD 6 can still be used and is preferred by many of us.
iDVD requires a 733MHz or faster processor.
512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended. High-definition video requires at least 1GB of RAM.
Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later.
    3GB of available disk space.
    DVD drive required for installation.
    QuickTime 7.2 or later.
Burning DVDs requires an Apple SuperDrive or compatible third-party DVD burner. "
It doesn't look like your G3 meets the system requirements. You may be able to install some parts of iLife 08 but I'm not sure. Do a search in this forum for "G3 and iPhoto" or other similar search criteria to see if others have been successful.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Transitioned to Photos. Now I can't import pictures to my editing software. The Library is greyed out?

I transitioned to Photos and all my photos are there. Everything was fine. I use a program for editing with my Bamboo Tablet and import photos from my library as a layer to the project I'm working on. The program is called ArtRage Studio if that matters. When I am using ArtRage, and I need to import a picture as a layer, i can't. I navigate to the file location of my "library", which I see both the iPhoto Library icon and a Photo Library icon, but I can't select them. I use to be able to just select Pictures like I do in Finder but now this garbage program Photos has screwed everything up. I have to actually launch Photos view anything. I can't view anything in the finder either like I use to.
This is garbage. I know its a longshot that someone also uses ArtRage, but am i missing something ? Why can't I view my location of the photos I have?

The new Photos is an entirely different app than iPhoto was and requires plugins from the 3rd party editor developers to be able to use them to edit photos in the library.  In the meantime we'll need to export the original file to the Desktop, edit it there with the 3rd party app and then import the edited version back into the library as a new photo.
So we're at the mercy of the 3rd party app developers.  I know Pixelator just came out with a new version that can access the Photos library to obtain photos to edit.  But all edits have to be saved to the Desktop and imported as new photos.

  • PS CS3 Extended Student Edition disc won't upload onto Computer!

I bought the PS CS3 Extended Student Edition and I have registered on the Adobe website to get my serial number which all went fine, but when I put the Disc in the drive, it does not appear on My Computer,Desk Top for me to open and upload photoshop to my computer! I have put the disc into another hard drive and attached it to my monitor but still nothing comes up! I have tried it on a completely different computer and it appears then, just not on mine! My computer seems to be working fine as I am able to upload other discs to it!
Please can anyone help or has anyone had this problem in the past?
    Thanks
    Hayley

When did this start? 3.3? I've been a regular educational buyer. The most recent we have is CS3.0 (the suite) and that came with the serial. Maybe it just depends on the educational vendor.
I'm not doubting that Hayley has a legitimate license. But based on her terminology ('
disc won't upload onto Computer', '
put the disc into another hard drive') she may not be living in perfect harmony with computers. She may do well to snag the assistance of a fellow student to aid in the installation. They still have a good size population of 'nerds' in schools these days to choose from, right? :)

  • Cannot open two pictures at the same time - computer crashes

I have PSE7 and Windows7.    I cannot open two pictures at the same time.  When I go to open the second picture it crashes PSE7.  Anyone know how I can open two pictures at the same time?  What is the fix?

    Hello Shawbrah
    Thanks for your reply.
Yes, your method is actually the only workaround for a workplace with PSE7, but it isn't a solution for our enterprise network/domain.
    There are different problems:
We have several computers with PSE7 installed. It does not make sense to manually install a local TCP/IP-printer on each PC.
We have many fluctuation in our company which means that the workplaces will often be moved and the PCs will often be replaced.
If the employees are printing over a local printer, our centralized printer monitor solution does not recognise print volumes.
The printers which are defined on our print server have special tray settings and these settings are "linked" to the core business application. Users should not be able to print with other settings, this could end in a chaos.
Finally to work with PSE in our company, there is no other way than upgrade to PSE8...

  • Purchasing student edition software

Hello, I'm a student currently attending a college/university and I am looking at purchasing the Photoshop CS5 extended upgrade software and for discount purposes I am looking at the Student/teacher edition. I was looking at the limitations and what confused me was that it describes a 12 month period. I'm not sure what it exactly means. Does it mean that I am purchasing a product that can only be used for a 12 month period (like an extended trial)? I want to purchase this product and be able to use it for longer than that. Hopefully thats not what It means and I will be able to use this product for a few years through my time in school.
This is the product I am looking at...
    https://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/index.cfm?&store=OLS-EDU#store=OLS-EDU&lo c=en_us&view=ols_prod&category=/Applications/PhotoshopExtendedSTE&categoryOid=45 29549
    Thank you!

It means that "You may PURCHASE only one license of any Adobe Student and Teacher Edition product within a 12 month period. " There is no limitations on using time, so you can use it as long as you want on your own machine.

  • What is some good video editing software for the Imac?

We just got a Imac for my church but Imovie is not cutting it, I need software that can capture video through a firewire. Can then edit it with adding effects such as fading in and out. Then it needs to be able to/have included software that I can use to put the video onto a dvd. I want to know of the best stuff out there. Thanks!

I need software that can capture video through a firewire.
Here is how I do it (I have tried almost everything).
For maximum quality here is my procedure:  ADVC300 > iMovie 06 > iDVD 11
    http://www.videoguys.com/Item/Grass+Valley+ADVC300/035303230363.aspx
I would use iMovie 06 with iDVD 09/11, why?
iMovie 09/11 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.

  • Very disappointed that Lion is causing major problems with disable students assistive software in the UK. Software suppliers are not issuing patches/upgrades until 2012. Totally unacceptable attitude from Apple in ignoring disabled customers

This is going to affect a large number of disabled UK students as patches and upgrades for the specialist software are not due for release until late 2011/early 2012.
Only options they have is to revert to Snow leopard, defficult as Apple have even recall resellers stock and upgraded it to Lion.
I am contacting the UK educational funding bodies with a view to suspending purchasing of all Apple equipment until such time as the situation has resolved itself.

Ikrups says "Speaking of getting one's professional act together I would take a look in the mirror if I were you. A professional responsible for maintaining the computer equipment and network of a school system would certainly perform extensive testing of any new operating system upgrade before deploying it. Even the smallest corporations don't just upgrade software willy-nilly. If you had thought to set up a test system and verified what software worked and what didn't before deploying Lion to the entire system you would have been protecting your students from these issues. A professional would have discovered these issues and delayed deployment of Lion until the patches you mention were available. But you didn't and now you are trying to deflect blame from yourself and your staff. And you dare to accuse Apple of incompetence. I call hypocrisy"
I seem to have ruffled a couple of feathers. I do not remember saying I was responsible for computer systems/networks/school systems. Or accusing Apple of incompetence.
All I did was state that Apple seems to have forgotten or is not aware about the potential impact of Lion on disabled students in the UK and both apple and the assistive software suppliers failed to act together over this omission.
During our research prior to the launch of Lion we as a specialist group had identified 22 of the 40 applications used in assistive software that had 'Problems' this was communicated to all interested parties. Still waiting for the 'FIX'
FYI ALL parties have had similar notices on their BB's NOT just Apple.
despite being given 2 ears and 1 mouth some people do not listen twice as much as they speak.

  • EDITED BY in the Event Details of iCal

So .. a new fun added item when in iCal on my iPhone is the "EDITED BY" when I go to an Event Details of a shared calendar. Again .. this only appears when I access iCal on my phone ... it doesnt appear when on my laptop/desktop/ipad.
I'd REALLY like to not have it... any ideas?
    Thanks!

Looks like 10.6.3 update solves this
    iCal fixes provided for:
changing the invitation list for a single instance of a recurring event will no longer "un-book" the location of the meeting.
an issue in which new invitations on a Microsoft Exchange server might not appear in the Notification pane.
