Hi, FairMaiden123 -
Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
...this can be "a complicated and lengthy procedure…".
Yes, but it need not be. The easiest way (that I've found) to do that is, for example, to open the Extensions folders from both system folders, set both to list view and arrange them side by side. Compare the two - anything in the old one that is already in the new one can be thrown away; what's left are the 3rd-party items that you should consider moving from the old one to the new one.
Do the same for the Control Panels folder and the Fonts folder.
Also, you may want to move your browser's folder from the old Preferences folder to the new one - your browser's settings, favorites/bookmarks, things like that are in there. For Netscape, it's a folder named Netscape Users; for Internet Explorer, it's named Explorer.
Do not move any other files from the old Preferences folder into the new one unless you absolutely have to - such as because you don't have a copy of a program's serial number. Preference files, as a group, are the easiest to become damaged - no sense bringing possibly damaged files into a clean system if you don't have to.
Once you're done with that (it really goes much faster than it looks like it will), restart and rebuild the desktop.

  • Can't reinstall clean copy of Acrobat.

CC sees it as installed and up to date, so won't allow reloading a fresh copy. Acrobat was corrupted and wouldn't update properly, so trashed it, and all associated files. But Creative Cloud app still sees it as "up to date" so will not allow reloading.
Running Mac with newest OS and all updates

Have you tried removing opm.db as mentioned in the kb. opm.db is present in user Library: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html .
If still the same issue please navigate to:
    C/Program Files(X86)/Common Files/Adobe/OOBE and rename it.
    C/Program Files(X86)/Common Files/Adobe/Caps and rename it.
Download and install creative cloud desktop and look for Acrobat: https://creative.adobe.com/#products/creative-cloud .

  • Thinkpad S440: installing a clean copy of windows 7 professional

    Hi there,
I wanted to install a clean copy of windows 7 professional on my thinkpad s440. With the initial install, I've had peculiar issues with some devices and the Lenovo software. The power manager caused a massive slowdown on resuming from sleep if I had memory-intensive applications open, which was completely resolved when I uninstalled it. There's been other issues with WiFi stability, webcam use and mousepad behaviour among others.
I have a couple of questions before going ahead with this. Firstly, the laptop has no visible signs of any COA or windows 7 product key. As the laptop only comes with the recovery partition and no disks, how do I know the windows 7 installation will activate successfully or that I won't need a CD key during the install?
If I use the digitalriver file to create USB bootable install media, is there a md5 checksum or something else I can do to ensure what I download is not corrupted or altered in any way? It's not easy using the internet without connection errors happening over a few hours especially with what I have to use in China!!
    Any help appreciated!

My question is basically how to reinstall windows 7 without the Lenovo bloatware, especially if I don't have any Windows 7 CD key available.
I have searched for this before and anything I read assumes I have a CD drive, or a CD key for windows 7 professional or that I had windows 8 pro and used downgrade rights. None of those scenarios apply to me.
Can anyone out there help with this? Thanks in advance!

  • I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

I'm using a mid 2014 13" rmbp. I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

  • I don't have the option of installing a clean copy of Snow Leopard

I'm new to Mac and have been exploring different programs that would fulfill the same functions as the programs I had been using on Vista. Unfortunately, my computer got a little wonky somewhere along the way and I want to remedy it by erasing the hard drive and installing a clean copy of Snow Leopard. I've looked in my owner's manual as well as several websites online. They all tell me to select something either from a tab or an Options menu but there isn't one. When I reach the Select Destination window, I have the option to customize what is installed (i.e. Quicktime, Rosetta, etc.), go back and continue. Is it not possible or something???

it's possible but there is likely no need to do this. what exactly is wrong with your computer? a simple reinstall of snow leopard on top of your current system will cure many ills and will preserve your data and applications. and many problems can be solved without reinstalling at all.
but if you insist on doing a wipe and install boot from the SL install DVD and start disk utility from utilities menu at the top. erase your hard drive using the erase tab in disk utility. then quit disk utility and proceed with the install. and if you do reinstall I suggest you back up your data first. otherwise it will be completely wiped when you erase your hard drive. and you should always back up anyway.

  • I have installed a OSX 10.7.5 and I want to install a clean copy of OS X mountain Lion on my mac.

I want to install a clean copy of Mountain Lion not an update from my current version which is 10.7.5.
I do not want to keep my old program files. I already have my personal info backed up.
    Thanks

If you don’t have it yet, get Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store but do not install it yet (orredownload it if you did install it)
Create a bootable install drive for OS X Mountain Lion, make one manually with a USB drive oruse the LionDiskMaker tool to automate the process with a USB or DVD
With the boot installer drive connected to the Mac, reboot and hold down the Option key
Choose the “Mac OS X Installer” startup volume from the boot menu
Select “Disk Utility” and choose the hard drive you wish to format, click the “Erase” tab, and then pull down the “Format” menu and select “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” as the type, name the drive if you wish
Click the “Erase” button and let the drive format – this is the point of no return
When finished, quit out of Disk Utility and now select the “Install Mac OS X” option from the menu
Choose your freshly formatted hard drive and install Mountain Lion
When the Mac reboots you will have a clean installation of Mac OS X 10.8 to work with.
I did this last week and its working fine

  • I am trying to install a clean copy of Lion, but I don't see the OS in my Disk Utility

    Good Morning Friends,
I am trying to install a clean copy of Lion, but I don't see the OS in my Disk Utility... I am lost.

    Hi Bohandleit208,
Just double-click on the Lion installer to install it. You should not need Disk Utility for that purpose. The Lion installer should be in your Applications folder.

  • After Mavericks reinstall, I copied iPhoto library over, but now photos missing?  Where are they hiding or how do I recover them?

I was told by Genius?Bar to reinstall Mavericks and avoid using Migration Assistant, but rather manually copy over my data because of ongoing issues.  I have a newer version of iPhoto now (9.5.1, not sure the previous version).  I copied the iPhoto Library from the Pictures folder of my Time Machine backup.  I want to keep all the folders, albums, keywords, etc.  Now, several photos are missing and showing an exclamation mark, however the folders they were in are still there.  I tried rebuilding the database and had no luck with that.  I still have the Time Machine back up, but no idea where the missing photos are if they aren't in the iPhoto Library file. Most of the photos were imported from an iPhone and iPad, so not sure if there is a default location they would save to other than iPhoto Library?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

but the Genius Bar guy specifically advised me to "drag and drop" my data
That will not work - TM backups MUST be restored - not copied - seehttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US andhttp://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There is nothing more to say - it will not work and you have proven that to yourself by doing it and having it not work
