Reinstalling CS3 Master Collection on Vista x64

CS3 has worked fine for me up until I did some major Windows updates (mainly for MS Office 2007) on 4/29/09.  Premiere Pro gave me the "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Premiere to be shut down. We will attempt to save your current project" error.  And After Effects wouldn't load (but would show up in Task Manager).
So I updated my graphics card and mobo.  Then I tried all the Adobe Licensing Troubleshooting tricks and other suggestions from all over the web.  Now I get the lovely "You cannot use this product at this time. you must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your it administrator or adobe customer support for help."  Every program gives that error.  If I don't get the error (like in Bridge), Windows tells me the program crashed after closing it.
I also UNinstalled a whole bunch of programs (2 games, misc converters, other junk).  I figure I'm going to re-install the whole CS3 bundle OVER the Windows Updates and uninstalled programs.  First, though, I'm going to save important things like PS brushes and actions.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I go smashing my current installation?
Do you think I would be just fine installing directly from the installation disks instead of copying the disks to the hard drive like I did originally?
Will there be a problem with Licensing since I can't deactivate it now (the programs won't open)?
What do I need to do to COMPLETELY remove everything Adobe before installing anew?
Thanks a bunch.
-Michael

Peter,
Thanks for the insight.  I'm going to take the risk and wipe CS3 off my hard drive.  I don't know if it's the right thing to do, but the latest Windows update was an update that was undoable (in other words, it told me after this update that I could not undo it).  So, in that sense - reinstalling CS3 might be the only thing to do.
Both Microsoft Office AND Adobe are important to my work - I have 8 email accounts coming and going in Outlook, use Excel for my billing, and Onenote for sensitive client information (password protected).  So I don't think I could forfeit Office.
I've done every Vista update as far as I can remember (the important ones - not the extras like games and language packs), and I've been just fine.  I believe the combination of uninstalling a bunch of programs AND major Vista updates caused my problem.  I'm also now having a problem with corrupted Tahoma fonts in Outlook menus and reminders (they look like bitmap fonts - very large and pixelated).
If this re-installation of CS3 doesn't work, then I may end up re-installing Vista altogether.  But with everything I have on my computer and all the customization of the interfaces between programs I've done, I think it would take about 10 years off of my life.  Not to mention the time wasted and angry clients waiting for their work to be done.
Thanks for the CS3Clean Script info.  I'll be running it at level 2 after I uninstall CS3.
I couldn't find any of my PS Actions or Brushes (which was all I really needed to backup), but they weren't amazing in any way.  So I'll just make them again as I go along.
I'll remember that tip about only installing important updates next time.
Thanks again Peter - I really appreciate it.

  • Can't re-install CS3 master collection.

Im having problems reinstalling CS3 master collection, Im not sure why? (What happend before the problem) It says that it is not working and telling me to uninstall then reinstall it, so I uninstall and started having problems re installing it. What happens is it says its installing then installs some programs but none of the main ones i need. It installs acrobat 8 and some others but thats it, then it says the rest fails. I've monitored it while it was installing and for the most part it just says installing shared components until the very end of the process.
Has anyone ever had this problem? or anything similar? Please help me.

Did you get this resolved? I am having the exact same problem and technical support will not assist me over the phone since it is an older version of CS.  Thanks.

  • CS3 Master collection updates - where can I find them?

I own the CS3 master collection
Last week my hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall all my software which has taken me over a week! Unlike every other software manufacturer website I visited adobe seems to have no download portal for legacy products! I'm assuming they must have it somewhere but I don't know where.
Not only would I like to know how to find these updates since the automatic update functionality no longer works and the original package included many bugs which were fixed in these updates  - but I'd like to suggest that Adobe conform to the rest of the software world and make this kind of thing easy to find. As a result of not making this easy - instead of doing the work I should be -  I'm spending time on the phone, in chat rooms and on this forum all because I ran into one of the original bugs this morning (the indexing function in In Design v5.0)
I now know that Adobe only supports their current version and the previous one - so if you are a CS4 user you should probably archive whatever updates you've installed because once CS6 comes out - you'll be going through the same thing I am.
    Please help if you can

I am unsure if you are using Windows or Macintosh but I do see the updates as being available under Product updates in our Download section.
Creative Suite for Windows - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/collection.jsp?collID=1&platform=Windows
Creative Suite for Macintosh - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/collection.jsp?collID=1&platform=Macintosh
It looks like we have updates all the way back to the original Creative Suite.  The Creative Suite 3 updates are about midway down the page.

  • Problems installing CS3 master collection

So i just received Adobe CS3 Master Collection and was trying to install it on my MBP. After it installed the first disc, i would get a black window that said installer alert. I went to adobe webpage and they told me it was because i had the safari 3 public beta installed and that I needed to remove it. i wasnt entirely sure how to do this so I just dragged it to the trash and emptied it. then i put in my tiger os x dvd and reinstalled safari 2.whatever. after clearing out the old partial install of CS3, i tried again but i got the same crap with the blank window. did i really uninstall safari 3.0 or is there more i need to do? this is really annoying and want to get to using my new software

You can't just delete the Safari 3 Beta. You must use the uninstaller found on the .dmg file.
Download it again, if deleted, or install it again to run the uninstaller.
    It will restore Safari 2.0.4

  • CS3 Master collection installation problem on Windows 7 64 bit

    Hi Guys
    Please can you advise
I am encountering problems with the installation of CS3 Master Collection on Windows 7 64 bit, initially my hard drive crashed and performed a dump.
Subsequent attempts to install CS 3 has resulted in failure to install 12 components, essentially the individual software products including photoshop, encore, illustrator etc.
I have re-performed the installation several times with the same installation error.
I believe CS3 to be compatible with Windows 7 64 bit
Any thoughts, guidance on how to rectify the problem and achieve successful installation.
I do have Adobe Reader X and Flash player X already installed. I assume these should not cause an issue with the CS3 installation
    Thxs in anticipation

Na, you have it all backwards. CS3 is neithe officially tested nor endorsed, certified or supported on W7. Many users still use it succsfully, but there ae no guarantees whatsoever. Furthermore using Acrobat X ma exactly be the problem due to certain PDF components being shared acoss apps and newer versions not being compatible with the old installer. Therefore removing those parts and reinstlling them later is advisable. Beyond hee's a procedure that should work:
    - use the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
    - install CS3
    - uninstall CS3 via the Add or Remove Programs system control panel
    - install CS3 again
This convoluted procedure is necessary due to bugs in the installer which otherwise prevent things from working.

Try running the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, and then try installing again.

  • Installing cs3 master collection and cs5 production premium on windows 7 machine

I have a windows 7 ultimate machine that I would like to install CS3 Master Collection on. I would then like to upgrade the Production Premium programs to CS5.
I have the install discs for both. Any suggestions for how to go about doing this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Tahseen,
    Thanks for the quick reply!
Both CS3 Master Collection and CS5 Production Premium are full installs, neither is an upgrade. I have serial numbers for both.
Machine previously had CS4 Production Premium installed on it, that has been uninstalled.
Should I install CS3 Master Collection then install CS5 Production Premium? If so, do I need to remove the CS3 versions of programs included in Production Premium before installing CS5 Production Premium?
    Thanks again!

  • Is the any place can down load a copy of CS3 Master collection disk 1

Is the any place can down load a copy of CS3 Master Collection disk 1.
I bought Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection.
    it has never been registered.
It ALL INSTALLS OK, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ILLUSTRATOR.
I was told to go to your fttp site I did so and it is funny but you have the creative suite there for CS, CS2, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 but not CS3.
There is Illustrator CS3 there but not sure if that will work with the Master Suite and the Master Suite serial number.

Please go through the mentioned link and download the CS3 Master Collection: http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and I went to download my CS3 Master Collection. In the middle of downloading Disc 1 I got a kernel telling my to push the power button until the computer shuts off and turn it on again. Anyone ever have this problem? I already tried pulling out the partial download from applications but it did not help. I cannot use my CS3 Master Collection now unless I figure out how to fix this problem.

  • Adobe CS3 Master Collection Content...Help! Where does it go?

    Hello,
I just installed Adobe CS3 Master Collection on my G4 PowerBook, and with the install discs there is a CONTENT disc which contains a folder called GOODIES with content like photos, fonts, clip art etc. Basically all the files i need to use the programs.
Can someone tell me where these are supposed to go? Do I drag them somewhere?
    Thanks

It doesn't make a bit of difference where you put them. Just copy them all into a folder anywhere on your hard drive.

  • Advice on books for learning CS3 Master Collection

I've been trying to learn as much as I can from tutorials and just basic knowledge from around the web.  I am understanding a little as I go, but am thinking that a book or two might help me as well.  I have several sites that I visit from time to time, so I don't need help on that front.  Can anyone give me some advice on what literature I should buy?  I own the CS3 Master collection, and I'm hoping to learn Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver, and maybe other programs related to web design.  I've heard that the bible series is pretty good, but since I'm still considered new I really don't know where to start.  And not sure if this is the place to ask, but as far as web design is concerned, should I also get a book for coding?
Sorry if this is a topic that is asked every five seconds, but I've looked around as much as I could and this was literally my last option.  And in case anyone was wondering, I asking in this forum since every time I start off in one program I usually end up in Photoshop, so I assume people who know Photoshop also know some of the other programs, also I didn't really see a forum best suited for my question.  Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

You would do best to buy individual books for each application.
Some books try to have an overview of several different applications, but they only give the barest amount of information on each one and are basically useless.
Some books like the Bible series are extremely large (Photoshop CS3 over 1,200 pages) but don't assume that more is automatically better.
I think they make some of them big just to impress people looking for an instruction book at their local bookstore.
The Bible and some other books include a CD of images and give step by step instructions using the supplied images.
But they really don't explain how the procedures work and why you would likely using this procedure rather than another.
They basically said, do this, now do that, do another thing, etc.
The Quick Start Guide series by Peachpit Press dispenses with the hand-holding step by step intructions.
It explains how and why to do things and has screenshots on every page to show the menus, tools and procedures of actually using Photoshop.
The Quick Start books just give solid information and are usually much more affordable, which is helpfull if you are buying several books for different applications.
Peachpit Press also has another series of books, their Real World series. These are larger books but without the CD, etc.
Over the last 20 years I've had many different books, but in my estimation the Peachpit books are the best of the bunch. Your mileage may vary.
Since CS3 is rather old, I'm assuming you are looking at Amazon or other online sellers. You might even be able to get some used books through Amazon resellers an a greatly reduced price.
    Good luck.
