Reinstalling CS5 on new computers.. what do I need to do?

Hi all,
I've got the Production Premium 64bit CS5 Student version, everything installed, registered, and up to date.
I'm looking to build a new computer (well, new motherboard, processor, and memory), this means I'll have to reinstall Windows 7 which will also take everything off my hard drive I assume (A good excuse for housekeeping I guess.)
Anyway, what steps do I have to take to make sure I can reinstall my CS5 programs on my new computer?  I think it involves deactivating the account on my old computer, and then re-activating on my new one once it's built and all up and running, but what's the whole process?  Want to make sure I do it right! (And Legal!)
Is there any point in backing up certain CS5 files, or is it best to just redownload the programs again (I'm on an uncapped BB account so it would just be the time it takes to download the new programs..)  I know that for example with Valve's STEAM system, you can copy a certain folder which contains all your game data, put it in the right folder on your new computer, and it means it won't have to re-download all your games again.  Is there something similar for Adobe CS5, or is it better to redownload the whole thing again to ensure there are no conflicts with the software being on a new computer?
Basically, what's the whole process I should follow for reinstalling CS5 on a new computer I'm building?
Many Thanks
Dan

Hey there Dan, what you described is pretty much the correct procedure for moving or reinstalling Adobe CS5 after a system rebuild or upgrade...
As far as backups, the most straightforward thing is just to use your disks to reinstall everything fresh. If you don't have disks (because you downloaded the software instead), you definitely should make them for offline backup! (which does mean you'd need to download the software again to burn a DVD or two)

I just got my new iphone4g and cannot seem to get the phone to sync with my wireless earpiece. What do I need to do?

Put the earpiece into discoverable mode using the procedure
from the earpiece manual or website. In iPhone, go to Settings
and then Bluetooth to see the earpiece listed and any required

Purchased a iPhone 5 to replace a 3, itunes is not recognizing the new phone.  All of my email accounts and calendars have switched, what do I need to do to be able to access apps?

If  the issue persists after following the troubleshooting assistant,  continue with the steps below, testing to see if the issue is resolved  after each section.
Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. iTunes 10 and later requires Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later.
Update to the latest version of iTunes and Install software updates on your Mac.
Check  USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If  you are not sure if your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer's specifications. Disconnect other USB devices, and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Trying to reinstall CS5 onto new pc after laptop started acting up

    Hi,
I had purchased the CD for Photoshop CS and then eventually upgraded/downloaded to CS2 and did the same in April 2011 for CS5.  I have the license number and the 'program" on an external hard drive where I saved everything, but when I click the setup icon, it says it's the license is valid, but a qualifying product cannot be found on this computer.
Can anyone help me with this?  I really need to get CS5 up and running.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
    Kathy

The upgrade installer should prompt you for the serial number of the previous version from which you upgraded as wel as the s/n for the newer one if it doesn't find the previous version installed on your boot drive.
I cannot remember whether you could upgrade from CS2 straight to CS5, skipping both CS3 and CS4.  Your best bet is to contact Adobe customer service on the phone directly.  We're just users like you here.

  • Reinstalling cs5 on new hard drive same computer

Do I have to de-authorize my copy of CS5 from my old hard drive when I upgrade to a newer hard drive? I will be using same system, just updating hard drive with a clean install of OSX10.

    Hi dovephotographynyc,
Yes, you would be able to activate it on the same machine. There wouldn't any problem doing that.
Kindly revert in case you face any trouble with activation.

  • IChat will not launch from my brand new iMac - What do i need to do?

Just purchased a brand new iMac 24". Really nice machine except that iChat will not launch. I click on the icon but it just bounces once and does nothing. Any ideas what i need to do please?

    Hi deano68,
    Very odd.
OK I think we have at least one app that has not installed properly.
It could also be that a Font is missing. Certain Apple Apps will not launch if Helvetica is not active in the Font Book.
There are two ways to reinstall the Application.
Both are listed here in Ryan's FAQ.
Both methods require that you download the Combo Install and run that as well.
This catches all the iChat Updates that come with OS updates so that iChat and the OS are at the same level.
You might want to try the Combo Update on it's own first before the Reinstall as it often sorts things.
The link in the FAQ to downloads may not work now since the Apple Site has been reorganised.
    They are now here http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/

  • I am getting a new computer: what do I need to backup onto an external hard drive so that I will be able to sync the ipad with the new computer without losing anything?

I am getting a new computer and need to be sure to back things up from the old computer in order to put everything onto the new computer.  I know that itunes music I have uploaded from cd's will not sync from ipad to new computer, but what else should I be aware I will lose when I move to sync with the new computer?

IMHO the best solution is to clone your disk. That will give you a copy of everything. You can do that with either SuperDuper or CCC.

  • .Mac failing to sync Contacts between computers--what do I need to Copy?

I have two computers syncing everyhting via .Mac but today after making a lot of changes on one (the Quad), the Powerbook is blowing up with the following statement (which I see is not an uncommon error after reading a lot of post):
    .Mac Sync Notice
An inconsistency was detected on .Mac for your Contacts data. You may want to reset .Mac from a computer with good data.
I have tried following the .Mac support ideas:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iSync/2.0/en/isc9.html
The 'Reset Sync History" did not change the error.
So now, I am thinking of going back to the old fashion way and just manually copy the file from my Quad over. Other than AddressBook.Data in Library/Application Support/AddressBook do I need to copy anything else to get back to a steady state????
    PB 17 1.33 GHZ & 12 1GHZ & new Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I manually copied over entire Address file and then reset Quad first to overcopy .Mac and then PC to reset to .Mac.
Had to do it twice, but eventually I was able to get it to work again.

  • New business - what do i need to get?

    hello,
i have only moved to mac 2 years ago and used it for private matters. i am so happy with my decision to switsh from pc that now i want to install mac at my business.
it a small business only with 5 clients plus me. we coordinate appontments and contracts so there is no need for a lot of memory. here is wat i want to do
    -email for all clients
    -shared ical
-shared documents (word, pages, pdf, jpg)
-with my existing macbook i want to share ical aswell without adding a new user
i would really like to have a cheap version, but the points mentioned above are crucial to me. what hardware do i need to get?
is it possible to run shared itunes and iphoto? itunes would be a gimmick for us but iphoto would be very handy.
is there a way to use several mac minis? does it have to be a server hardware? which is better for my use - Mac Pro or Xserve?
    many thanks
    frederic

It might not look like it, but this is a complex question and can go in dozens of directions.
The correct configuration depends on what you're doing, what skills you have (and what skills you want to acquire or hire), whether you want to learn to run a server or hire that out, and any number of other decisions.
I'd suggest a look at [Google services and gmail and such|http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/index.html] as a start; at out-sourcing the management of this information and these services. Google is one of various organizations offer these sorts of shared calendar and shared storage services. (Apple's MobileMe probably won't work for you here; that services doesn't seem to be targeting small businesses and small teams.)
Yes, you can run all this stuff from your own gear using Mac OS X Server (and at this scale and without rather more discussions, I'd guess probably best from a Mac Mini; Xserve and Mac Pro are likely more capabilities than you'll need), but running a server is rather more work than running a client, both with the initial configuration and with the on-going requirements around maintenance and security.

I've purchased a new IMAC and plan to give my old IMAC away to another family member.  After I transfer my settings, files and documents from the old to the new IMAC, what do I need to do to scrub the machine and give it to a new user?

This is preparing one for sale but the principle is the same.

  • Installing Lightroom 4 on new computers

I recently purchases a MacAir and a Mac Mini to replace my Windows desktop and Windows Laptop. I purchased a DVD version of Lightroom 4, which I loaded on my two Windows computers. Now that I have retired these and replaced them with Macs, can I load my same version of Lightroom 4 on my new computers, or will I need to purchase a new copy?

Download the latest Mac version (4.2) from the Adobe website. Then activate using the serial number from the boxed version. The license is cross platform and you are allowed to have it on two computers at any point in time. There is no activate/deactivate so you should have no problem. The link to the download is at the top of the main forum page.

  • My desktop was stolen and my laptop hard drive failed, now I cannot activate cs5 on a new computer, what are my options?

Someone robbed my apartment and made off with my imac. I filed a report with the police and insurance bought me a new one. Around the same time the laptop I use crashed. I has installed cs5 on both of these computers. I was able to activate cs5 on my new desktop, I'm guessing because I backed up my account on an external hard drive, but since the laptop crashed and was fixed I'm unable to activate cs5 again (the message claims I've activated cs5 on too many computers). The hard drive in the laptop was replaced. How can I reinstall cs5 on my laptop?

You need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues involving inaccessible machines.

  • Reinstalled PS CS5 on new Win7 x64 computer.

Reinstalled PS CS5 on new Win7 x64 computer. Bridge not interfacing with it (batch). Former installation was x32, but when installing x64 version there was no Bridge included. Unloaded and re-loaded PS CS5. I've downloaded Bridge "update" but no instructions on how to install or activate it.

Not sure what exactly you are trying to say. Which program is used can be configured in teh Bridge Prefs. for anything else you need to explain better.
