Reinstalling CS6 upgrade needs 5.5 installed first?

If I need to reinstall CS6, is it essential that I have CS5.5 installed on the PC, or can I just enter my licence number when/if prompted?
I have progressed through a number of upgrades to arrive at CS6. I don't want to repeat these installations if I can just supply the previous version's licence number.

you don't need to install cs5.5 before installing your cs6 upgrade.

Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
To install OS X  10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks (free upgrade, but currently unavailable) or OS X 10.10 Yosemite (currently available free upgrade) you need one of these Macs:
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion purchased emailed download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory (I strongly advise, at least, 4 GBs of RAM or more)
8 GB or more of available space
    Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.

If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest versions of OS X by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password and if you purchased a download code, input that code.
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing the newer versions of OS X from the Mac App Store.

  • Reinstalling CS6 upgrade version after drive failed.

I am reinstalling CS6 upgrade version after the hard drive in the computer failed. The CS 4 that was used as a previous product is gone and now the installation program is looking for CS 5 or 5.5. What do I do?

As long as you registered, you should be able to go to Adobe.com from this site (you should stay logged in that way) and mover the cursor over your name (upper right). Select My Products and Services. You should get a list of your serial numbers. Again, you have to be registered to have this option.

  • Lightroom 5 upgrade: need to re-install LR2 first?

I own a copy of Lightroom 2.  I have just moved from pc to iMac and wish to upgrade to Lightroom 5 with no carry-over of photo files.  Will I have to load Lightroom 2 onto the iMac before uploading Lightroom 5 Upgrade or does it come as a complete package?

Lightroom 5 is a complete standalone install. No need to install LR2 on the PC first.
When you enter your LR5 serial number, you will be asked to enter the serial number from an earlier qualifying version.
Enter your LR2 serial number and the LR5 install will complete.

  • How install premiere cs6 upgrade with premiere cs3 installed and not recognized

    I have a Windows 7 integrale 64bits computer.
I installed Premiere pro CS3 (upgrade from cs2)
It run OK but refused activation (the Adobe Support told me this is due to CS3 uncompatibility with Windows 7).
Then I tried to install Premiere C6 as upgrade from CS3.
But the install program doesn't recognize the CS3 previous install and asks for old serial number. I check "upgrade from cs3" then enter the previous CS3 serial number. CS6 install refuses it. So I can't install it.Thanks for help.

Premiere never "looks" for an older version on the system when installing an upgrade, and in fact, the best thing to do is completely uninstall any old version before upgrading. Also, you should run the "Adobe Cleaner" utility to remove any remnants of old software before new install. Only an older serial is needed for an upgrade, but of course must meet version requirements.

If you cannot get Premiere to install, please contact Adobe support as recommended

  • Can i purchase and install photoshop cs6 upgrade on a windows 8 pc.

i have photoshop cs5 upgrade installed on a windows 7 pc. can i purchase photoshop cs6 upgrade from adobe and install it on a windows 8.1 windows pc.this is important because i do not  want to purchase a new pc and then find i cannot purchase and install photoshop cs6 onto it.

Inasmuch as you are allowed to purchase a perpetual license for Photoshop CS6, there's no technical reason you can't install it on Windows 8.  When an upgrade installation asks about the prior product, you need only give it the serial number of your Photoshop CS5 license.

  • Do I install both CS5 and CS6 upgrade or just CS6?

PC fried by lightning. My CS5 was updated with CS6 upgrade. Must I install both or can I only install CS6?
    Thanks
    Callie

You should only need to install CS6.  As part of the activation process after your CS6 serial number is accepted you will be asked to identify the qualifying version (CS5) and enter its serial number

  • Unsure what to download to reinstall CS6

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help me.
At work we have CS5.5 Design Premium and, as an upgrade, CS6 Design and Web Premium, both store bought - boxes, DVDs, etc.
The PC this was installed on has failed and so I have to reinstall it. However, i cannot find the DVDs. I do have both serial numbers.
Can I just download CS6 and use the CS6 upgrade serial, or do I first need to download 5.5 and install, then 6 and reinstall?
    Thank you
    Kevin

you only need the cs6 install files (and both cs5.5. and cs6 serial numbers).
if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • Which one should be installed first Desktop or Admin

    Hi,
Can someone please tell me which one is needed to be installed first....
    Discoverer Desktop or Disc Admin?
    Thanks
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
    Disc Admin is needed first.
You first have to set up the EUL, bussiness areas, folders, etc... After you have that set up you can connect using discoverer desktop/plus and create workbooks based off of the work you did in admin.

  • I only have PP upgrade DVDs from Cs3 to Cs6, I need to reinstall in new machine, how do I do this without a cs6 disk

I Have been using PP since 1.5 I am now on CS6 but the last 3 updates have been on upgrade DVDs. I now need to delete and reinstall Premier. How can I do this without  a CS6 disk. I cannot reinstall CS3 and then do the upgrades individually as CS3 was for Win XP and I'm not sure it would work. Is there a dept in Adobe I can contact (no telephone numbers) to get a CS6 DVD. Thank you for any assistance.

Adobe has made this process much simpler in recent years.
No need to re-install any version earlier than the current version (CS6). All installers (upgrade or full) contain the full program code. The difference between full and upgrade is in the serial number.
All you need do is download (link below) and install CS6, enter the CS6 upgrade serial number then enter the CS5 serial number (even if that too is an upgrade).
    Download CS6 products

  • Cs6 upgrade is installed, do I need to keep CS4 installed?

cs6 upgrade is installed, do I need to keep CS4 installed?

    Stephen Roach III wrote:
I,m under the impression that CS4 must be installed on the machine for a 'upgrade to' version of CS6 to be successfully installed.
    Is this assumption wrong?
No, but it's not essential since upgrades include the full program code. The serial number differentiates a full version from an upgrade.
If the CS6 ugrade installer cannot find an earlier qualifying version already installed, it will ask you to enter the serial number for an earlier qualifying version instead. You then enter an earlier version qualifying serial and the CS6 installer will continue.
When I'm installing (or reinstalling) Creative Suites where the latest version is an upgrade version, I only ever install the latest version - even if no Adobe software was previously installed on that particular computer.

I then reinstalled CS6 and was able to use it for a day and now, today, I am getting the same message I got with PS CC2014 saying my VRAM is too low again. I'm in the middle of a project that needs to go live tomorrow. HELP!!! Please.

Photoshop requires 512 Meg of VRAM or more to use the 3D features - that's been the same for version 14 (CC) and now 15 (CC 2014). Check Help->System Info to see how much your card says it has.

    Justin,
In addition to what mo said, some have found that the page with the direct download link,

may turn up blank to start with, so it may be necessary to reload the page.

  • Do i need to deactivate my CS5 programs before i install the CS6 upgrade?

Do i need to deactivate my CS5 programs before i install the CS6 upgrade?

    that is correct.
all older versions of adobe products (except some versions of adobe acrobat) can not only be installed on the same computer but can be open and used at the same time.  eg, i routinely have flash pro cc and flash pro cs6 open at that same time.
