Reinstalling exchange in new partition

Hi guys
I am in unusual situation here and any input will be appreciated.I upgrade exchange 2003 to exchange 2010 on a brand new server. The
problem is I did it remotely and did not know that there is an external USB hard drive is connected to it for backup purposes. So instead of installing in C:\program files I installed on bigger 4tb
partition at E:\program files which is USB drive.
How can I move installation not only databases or logs  to C:\program files ? I have one  extra server that I can put exchange on it temporarily, problem is database is 96gb and it takes log time
to move it around.
I have some ideas how it can be done but like to hear different opinions.
Thank you

Hi,
As the suggestion above, DAG is the most convenient option.
In addition, you also can move all the mailboxes to the extra mailbox server after installing it.
Thanks.

  • Reinstalling exchange 2013 after installing it before, what needs to be removed from AD?

I feel stupid asking this but here goes,
I have a single Exchange 2007 server with all roles and mailboxes on it. I had built an Exchange 2013 SP1 server and added to the domain and existing Exchange site, moved a test mailbox to it and confirmed transport was working ok between servers and outbound
    and inbound. That was all.
I decided I wanted to partition the hard drive after all of this was done, so I needed to wipe everything out and start over. I know since it was added to the domain, that I need to remove some things before I start fresh again. I have no idea what to look
    for or remove.
So, I need to know, can I simply build another fresh Exchange 2013 and add again to the domain and exchange site? Should I call it the same? Or something different?
Should I use ADSI edit to clean up AD before building the new server? If so, what do I look for and clean/remove? Any help/advice would be gratefully received.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According your description, I know that you want to reinstall Exchange 2013 in multi environment.
I agree with ED, in addition you need to move mailbox from current mailbox to another before freshing.
Note: Microsoft don’t recommend that you use ADSI Edit unless intend to immediately reinstall the server in the same administrative group.
Find a KB on “How to remove Exchange Server 2003 from your computer” for your reference:

  • Migrating a new partition table with transportable tablespace

I created a partitioned table with 2 partitions (2010 and 2011) and used transportable tablespace to migrate the data over to a new envionment. My question is, if I decide to add a partition (2012) in the future, can I simply move that new partition along with the associated datafile via transportable tablespace or would I have to move all the partitions (2010, 2011, 2012).

    1) create a table as CTAS from 2012 in new Tablespace on source
    2) transport the tablespace
    3) Add partition to existing partition table Or exchange partition
Oracle has also documented this procedure:

i need to install a fresh copy of OS X onto my macbook pro 13. i did erase the old partition "macintosh hd" & now when i am trying to create a new partition, it shows "partition failed..couldnt unmount disk"...pls help !!

First of all, I have to ask, why to you "need" to install a fresh copy of OSX?
This may mean that your hard drive is failing, so hopefully you have a backup.
I'm assuming you were in your recovery partition when you did this.
I would, from the recovery partition, repair your hard drive and permissions.
When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies
And then try to create the partition again.
If that doesn't work, you have a few options:
Try a third party utility like DiskWarrior or TechTool which may be able to repair your hard drive:
DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
Try internet recovery, perhaps erase the entire hard drive and reinstall ML.
If nothing else works, then I'd replace the HD and start over.

You can not create another partition on a drive containing a Boot Camp partition. You now need to erase then format your drive. Reinstall OSX then reuse Boot Camp Assistant to create a new Boot Camp partition. Reinstall Windows. Ensure you copy off all your data before erasing and formatting the drive.

Have you tried doing this first:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If there are no errors reported then try the routine I suggested rather than trying to expand the existing partition just try to Add a second partition as you have tried before.
If this still gets you nowhere, then I'm afraid you're left with having to repartition from scratch. You'll want to backup the existing files if you don't wish to lose them. I would then do this:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When the above is completed quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the OS X installation.

  • [Solved] Integrating new Partitions into the Filesystem

    Hello,
I reinstalled arch a couple days ago. I'm not using GPT with
    /var, /boot, / , and /home partitions.
However, during the installion, i didnt add /var, /boot, and /home to my fstab [ i assumed genfstab would do this]
Thus, i've only been using one of my partions, my root partition.
So, now that i've discovered this, i would like to use them [20gb is not enough for me lol]
However, i've already installed lots of programs and the /var, /boot/ and /home directories on my root partition are full of stuff.
So how do i integrate these partitions into my filesystem? I need to copy all the files from the /var, /boot, and /home directories onto the
    /var, /boot, and /home partitions.
I could just mount each onto a dummy directory, copy the files onto their respective partition, umount, then remount onto the correct directories.
Is that the safest sequence of steps to take? If not what is?
    Thank you

lol. Didn't see the arch wiki post on this exact issue. The steps i outlined are those suggested by the wiki.
Add new partitions to an existing system
Should this be marked for deletion?

  • Can user default to new partition/disk?

I'm new to Macs and the Mac OS. In Windows I was used to partitioning my diak into two logical disks and storing all user data on the "D" disk". Is there a way to partition the disk on my MacBook Pro without having to start from scratch and once I do this is there a way to move all my user files (Documents, Picture and other folders) to the new partition?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know of a way you can partition the disk without starting over.
If the reason you want to do it is so that you can re-install the OS like you had to do with Windows, it isn't necessary. Some people do run into problems that require a reinstall, but rarely. The system won't get slowed down with age or kludged up with spyware.
Many of the apps allow you to set the location of their libraries, but not all. If you move the library folder for iTunes or iPhoto, it will ask you where it is on the next startup. You can also hold down the option key while starting the app and it will ask if you want to change the Library location. There are ways to change the location of your Home directory, either with a symbolic link or using the new Advanced options in the Accounts preference pane (they're well hidden for a reason).
The OS was designed to net boot with a home directory on the network server, so everything should work ok if you do decide to change the Home folder directory.
Search the forums here (or the internet) for moving Home directory or individual app libraries and you can find tutorials on how to make it work, if you still want to do it.

  • Reinstall Exchange server running evaluation windows 2012 DC

    Hi,
My exchange server 2013 is running in windows server 2012 evaluation version DC, I purchased license but cannot  activate windows server 2012 because it is DC. Kindly advise how I can activate windows or how to reinstall windows server and exchange
    server and restore the database.
    Thank You,
    Arafath

    Install new Windows Server 2012.
Note: Make sure it's not Windows 2012 R2. R2 is not supported for Exchange 2013.
Promote the server as DC, replicate the AD/DNS to new domain controller
Once the replication is done, install exchange server on the server.
Move all the mailboxes to new server, replicate the Public Folder to new server.
Test exchange with new server and make sure users are able to connect using outlook, Outlook Anywhere, OWA, ActiveSync, Mail flow is working internally and externally.
Once you confirmed it, shutdown the old server, and test the same again to make sure if you remove the old server it's not going to cause any issue to new server and new server will work find without the Old Server.
Again, try if you can get DC on different server and exchange on the member server.

  • Uninstalling/reinstalling exchange 2013 in hybrid environment

    Hello guys,
We have exchange 2007 SP3 servers, Exchange 2013 CU3 with all
rules (no DAG) server and Office 365 .
    Exchange 2013 CU3 servers were
installed initially only for office 365 migration needs. They configured as
    hybrid servers.
No, after the migration I would like to install Exchange 2013
    servers with DAG.
I am going to install 2 new servers with only Mailbox
role on Windows 2008 R2 enterprise.
Also, I will upgrade current Exchange
    2013 CU3 to CU7.
Later after making sure everything is ok, I am planning to
remove mailbox role from these hybrid servers. Unfortunately, in order to do it,
exchange should be removed and re-installed with only client rule.
    Will it
remove or change significantly hybrid configuration? Is there any manual how to
remove\reinstall exchange without changing hybrid config?
Second question: Are any issues with CU7 and it's better to stay with CU3? I prefer to upgrade since all the users who still not migrated to Office 365, are located on Exchange 2007. So it will be easier to do it now than later after migration
    Please assist

    Allen,
I uninstalled exchange and installed only client role on two servers and updated deleted settings on virtual directories. Needed to recreate arbitration mailbox and OAB. Everything is ok. hybrid config was not touched since I uninstalled exchange and reinstalled
it on servers one by one.
I configured WNLB for two client servers and configured its VIP hostname on outlook anywheree configuration- it's working. Since it's better to configure load balance with layer 7 and not 4, I will wait for F5 guy to create related VIP for me.

  • Reinstall Mac OSX on partitioned drive without losing Windows data

Several weeks ago, I used bootcamp to partition my mac so I could install Windows. I set aside about 20GB for Windows. I did it so that I could download a program I need to take the bar exam.
Everything worked fine for about a week. Then my "mac hard drive" started running slowly, freezing and crashing where I had to do manual restarts. The windows hard drive worked fine. Then, my mac hard drive quit starting up completely. It would freeze on the grey/blue screens.
Went to a mac store. The guy didn't know what to do (because he wasn't trained in boot camp) but told me I could try doing an install-without-erasing of Mac OS on the mac hard drive. I did this, and it helped, but did not solve the problem. It still froze/was slow.
Now, the Mac hard drive doesn't completely start up, it freezes after I enter my log in information.
I want to know the following: If I do a complete reset/reinstall of the mac OS on my mac hard drive, will it affect my Windows hard drive? I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT lose the program I have installed on my Windows hard drive. However, I am a bit nervous that if I don't take any action now, whatever problem is occurring may seep over into my Windows hard drive.
Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks!

you could use [Winclone|http://twocanoes.com/winclone> to clone the winsloth partition to an external, then erase your internal drive, reinstall OS X, have bootcamp assistant create a new partition for winsloth, and finally clone your winsloth installation back.

  • Recovery and creating new partitions

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a Satellitte A500-02F PSAR3C-02F008 with Windows7 in Canada. I had some trouble with Adobe Photoshop, I tried to uninstall all Adobe application on the computer, and now I am not able to install not even Adobe Reader. Since I only had it for a short period of time, and did not install too much, I thought that a new, clean installation would allow me to try to install Photoshop again.
Now, I have a few questions:
    1. What should I use to reinstall Windows 7 clean: HDD recovery partition, or the DVD-s created after the initial installation?
    2. Where could I find some step-by-step instructions on how to do the installation?
    3. I would like to make a few newer partitions on the HDD, and install Windows XP on one, and Linux Ubuntu on another one. Has anyone some idea how to do that? Should I try to partition the HDD using some software under the present Windows7 (which works ok, if it wasn't for Adobe)? Or should I do the partition with Ubuntu or XP installation CD-s and install each OS on the partitions thus created?
    Thanks!
    LiviuM

Either.  The results would be exactly the same.

  • New partition & windows no longer boots

Hey all, up until now i have had 3 partitions on my drive - Snow leopard, General media and Windows 7. I decided to add a linux partition and made a new partition using disk utility. I boot up to the choose disk screen to install ubuntu to find that windows is no longer an option for boot up, so i deleted the new partition and it still won't boot into windows anymore.
How can i restore the booting function? Doing it with a linux partition too would be preferable but it isn't necessary.
    Thanks,
    Brad

Hi Brad and welcome to Discussions,
    Hi John,
A later done partitioning to add additional partitions to a harddisk alters the position of the BootCamp partition in the partition table so that the Windows Bootloader can not 'find' the Windows partition.
With Windows XP it helped to simply edit the Boot.Ini file and point it to the WIndows partition.
With Vista and Windows 7 there no longer is a boot.ini but EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 can do the same.
One thing to remember though is, that even Vista and Windows 7 'suffer' from the limitation of four partitions on one harddisk immenent to the Master Boot Record (MBR) since Apples EFI/GPT/MBR emulation can not handle Extended Partitions and Logical Partitions inside an Extended Partition.
    Regards
    Stefan

You are allowed to have two machines with activated installations, so if you only had one installation, you still have the option to install on a second without doing anything further than that.  If you originally downloaded the purchase thru Adobe then you might find a download link available in your Adobe account online.  You can also download thru the following page if you can find your version:
    Download and Installation Help -
    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html
You can have the first installation deactivated to free up the activation and have it available for another machine again as well.  YOu need to contact Adobe Support thru chat for that.  For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • Can I install Snow Leopard on a new partition on a Macbook Pro (Late 2011)?

I need to get Pro Tools 9 up and running again after I migrated from PC to Mac, but I know that Pro Tools 9 doesnt work with Lion.. I dont have the money to upgrade to PT10 so my thought was to go downgrade to Snow Leopard to get it working. But I dont want to leave Lion, so my question is if I can make a new partition and install Snow Leopard on the new partition and have both OSs bootable?
The guy in the store I bought my mac from said Snow Leopard probably wouldnt play nice with the mac since its adapted to Lion but I dont trust people that get money for preaching about the constant need for "the latest". So I thought I'd ask the experts instead, so here I am! What do you guys think?

theoretically, it should work - but the guy at the Apple Store is correct....computers that ship with the latest operating system do not support being downgraded.
You might not get past the spinning beach ball & gray screen if you try to boot from the Snow Leopard install disc.
It's worth a shot though if you want to try it. Just don't try to 'downgrade' the current Lion installation back to Snow Leopard. Try instead to create a new partition specifically for Snow Leopard. Disk Utility - select the top HD (probably reads Hitachi something)...select it, click on the Partition tab. Select the top partition, and you should then be able to see the + so you can add a new partition. I would probably make it about 20GB give or take depending on how much space you think you will need - but i believe the Snow Leopard installation by itself takes up around 8-10GB.
Once this partition is created, insert your Snow Leopard installation disc, restart the computer and hold the C key down to start from the install disc. When it walks you through the steps for installation, select the newly created Snow Leopard partition. Install. Be sure to go through all the Software Updates (numerous times) after the installation is done.
You can select which startup disc you want to boot from by holding the Option button down at startup until you see the gray startup manager that shows your Lion partition, Recovery Disc partiton, and your Snow Leopard partition.
If for whatever reason this doesn't work, simply just erase the partition. It likely will not work but you should be able to just erase that newly created partition without any other problems.
