Reinstalling FCP will force "Reconnect Media"?

I was advised to reinstall the full version of my FCP because there seems to be something corrupting my FCP files. General Error and other issues have made many of the files unreadable or corrupted.
Will reinstalling the full program do I uninstall the entire FCP first before reinstalling FCP?
Or jus reinstall the full program?
Will the newly installed FCP cause any problems like recognizing the "Capture Scratch" files? Or does the new install version continue working with all the files on both internal and external drives?

Uninstall everything using this utility:
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm
Then reinstall. Whether or not it will work no one can say, you'll have to wait and find out.

  • Reconnect Media - Will only do one file at a time. (all files is checked)

I found one Google search that said this may be a bug... http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1047891 and it's really bothering me since I have about 500 more media files to connect.
When I select multiple files in my Project File Browser, right click, hit Reconnect Media... It opens the Reconnect Files window. Then I hit "Locate", navigate to the folder holding the files (Reconnect All files in Relative Path is checked), select the file, confirm, then hit connect... Only one file (the first one selected) reconnects.
It's worse than that for me, now the file is Connected in my Project File browser, but it still doesn't reconnect in my sequences. So now I have to go in the sequence and right click on the individual clips, and manually reconnect those as well.
At this point it take 6 plus clicks per file missing, times two because I have to reconnect these clips in the sequences as well... times 500 because that's how many offline files I have.
My lord, I've already done this to half of the project, I can't do it any more... where am I going wrong or is this a bug? If so, please tell me there is a workaround.
The file I'm working in is a feature film, so it's huge... I can't start over at this point.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty

The only multiple files it will reconnect are the ones that are already connected.
I hope I figured it out but need more advice. It may be that the files that won't connect do not have a visible file extension ".mov". How can I get these files to shoe ".mov" at the end of their names without manually renaming them all?
And the reason this is happening is I was using reference files to edit a movie, now I've been given new hard drives with the final uncompressed footage but same file names for each clip... plus the new hard drives I'm using have different names.
    Thanks for your time!

Reinstalled my Linksys router and now Airport has gone inactive and will not reconnect. What am doing wrong?

How did you reinstall the router? Do you mean updated the firmware on the router?  Did you change the router settings and if so, what changes did you make?  Did you make associated changes in the AirPort card in your iMac?

  • Reconnecting Media FCP does not see?

I am going through lessons in the book and have copied media and project files from the hard drive. On some macs, everything seems to open fine, while on other macs, some of the media opens fine, however, some clips do not show in the Timeline, even though they appear in the Browser with a red line through them.
When I check the hard drive, the media is clearly on the hard drive.
    1. Any idea why it might be doing this?
    2. When I control click on the clip in question in the Timeline, and choose Reconnect Media, it works fine after locating the clip on the drive. Is there a way to do this for multiple clips rather than doing it one clip at a time?
    Thanks!!!!

in the Reconnect Files window, when you press Locate and get the Reconnect dialog, there should be a checkbox saying "Reconnect All Files in Relative Path" ... if you enable that one it should find all other files in the same path without having to do it one by one

  • Can't Reconnect Media - Converting FCP 4.5 to 7. version

    Hello All
I was hoping someone might have an idea to help me.
I am converting all my FCP projects from FCP4.5 to FCP7.0
and I have a couple of files that I can't re connect too ??
The files show up as "off line"
I will manually search for them, and find them ( the files is where is is supposed to be )
I ask FCP to CONNECT to the file and
I get an EMPTY warning box - empty expect for a ! and Cancel or Ok bubbles
FCP does not tell me what is wrong with the file...?
Sometimes FCP will say that there are not enough layers in the Photoshop file ??
It seems that each time I open the project... I get a different warning !
These files run fine in FCP 4.5 ?
There are the same number of layers ??
Is this s Photoshop thing ? or a FCP thing ??
I've never run into this before ?
Any Ideas how to fix this ???
    Thanks

    Well that was easy.....!?
I guess I was just trying to fix a problem that wasn't a problem !
    Thanks David !

  • Reconnect Media - Unable to Reconnect All Files in Relative Path

I have a project that I have restored from a DLT backup. The project file and the all the media are now on a SAN which I access from my G5. Since this project originated on a different editor's computer all of the clips in my project are ostensibly offline within my project. All of the media files are located in a single capture scratch folder on the SAN with the same filenames and reel numbers. As such, I figured that when I used "Reconnect Media" with "Reconnect All Files in Relative Path" checked, all of the files would automatically relink. However, everytime I attempt to do this, the only file that is reconnected is the original file which I manually selected to establish the file path to the rest of my media. If I use the "Search" functionality and instruct FCP to search the capture scratch folder one file at a time, without fail, it will automatically find the media and reconnect it. Yet, I cannot seem to batch reonnect, as it were.
My question is this: If all of the media files are located in the same capture scratch folder (i.e. same relative path), why won't FCP automatically reconnect all the files in that folder to the corresponding offline clips?
I have attempted to reconnect the media on two different machines. The same issue arose on both machines. This leads me to believe that the problem may be a result of some issue with the filesystem on the SAN. Also, I have run FCP rescue and attempted a reconnect with both a clean backup and entirely new preference files, to no avail.

    Hi Nat,
I don't have a direct solution, and you might you've been doing this already. Although you didn't describe this. I think that what I would try to do is:
    - Copy the project (backup).
    - Open the project, and when it tells you that 132 clips and 714 render-files are offline, I'd select the checkboxes in order to 'Forget' the files.
    - Hit OK.
    - FCP 'forgot' all the links to the original files. So you forced errors from that perspective by doing this.
    - Try to reconnect again.
    Just a thought...
    All the best
    Rienk
PS What version FCP are you running?

  • Final Cut 5 - Won't recognize video files when I try to reconnect media

Help! Somehow FCP5 no longer recognizes my clips as video files.
The problem started when I transferred some clips to another drive so I could reformat my primary external drive. (It's new, and had been formatted for PC, and I felt I needed to reformat it for Mac.) I moved the files off the drive using my PC, held them on another external PC-formatted drive, then used MacDrive 7 to put them back once the formatting was done.
When I plugged the newly formatted drive back in, my Mac no longer recognized the files as video files because the file extension had been removed... It thought they were "Unix executable files." I added ".mov" to the end of the file names and they then seemed to work fine in QuickTime.
But FCP will not recognize them now... At first, when I try to "reconnect media," they are grayed out; when I select "All files" in the Reconnect Media dialog and they appear to be available. But when I choose one nothing happens and it goes back to the Reconnect Media dialog.
Did the back and forth between PC and Mac file systems screw up my files somehow?

Did the back and forth between PC and Mac file systems screw up my files somehow?
Yes. Unfortunately the move has almost certainly caused the loss of the resource data that would have been (invisibly) attached to those files.
By adding a specific .mov extension after the fact you will have helped the Mac correctly identify the file type / asscoiations but also significantly you will have physically changed the filename eg from "clip" to "clip.mov". This means that when you come to reconnect the media in FCP , then FCP will be looking for files that no longer exist at the given path eg when specifically looking for our example clip called "clip" of course it won't find it.
Try this as a test... first remove the ".mov" extension from one or more of the clips, select those clips and press Cmd-Opt-I to open an Info window for the selection. You'll see an "Open with:" popup and in that popup you should choose QuickTime Player (if its a Unix Executable then it will initially list Terminal as the appropriate app, you have to choose Other... then in the open dialog choose Enable > All Applications and then navigate to and select the Quicktime Player app as the appropriate app). After you've done that restart FCP and see if you can now reconnect to those clips.

  • Reconnecting Media to offline clips

    Hi all,
I have an interesting situation with a client.  Never seen this problem/scenario before.
    Here is the setup....
--> Client is logging all footage on her computer.
--> I provided her with a formatted Excel document that will allow me to import a batch list.
--> I converted her Excel logs to a txt document, then successfully imported the batch list into FCP.
--> After importing the log, FCP appears to like the log information.  Everything is in its proper column,  the clip icon (still with a red slash through it) and all of the necessary info (Clip name, Media Start and Media End, Log notes, Reel, etc) are all properly placed.  FCP Even calculates the duration of the clip for us.
The problem is, when I try to "Reconnect Media" in an effort to connect the log information in FCP to the actual clips, it is a massive fail.
What I am seeing when trying to Reconnect Media....
--For starters, I notice that all of the logging entries in the browser are checkmarked as offline.
--When I try to Reconnect Media, the RM dialog is asking me to search for the NAME of the individually logged clip, rather than the REEL.
--RM cannot successfully reconnect media.  At best, I turn off the Match Name option (Even though the REEL name is spelled perfectly in comparison to the actual video file), then manually select the clip to reconnect to.  Interestingly, upon reconnecting, FCP has renamed the REEL in the browser as "0", rather than using the actual reel name.
Any help as to how I can import the clients log files(36 pages of info) and connect them to the actual video files?
    Thanks,
    Matt

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

  • Can't Reconnect Media

I recently moved several capture files from my internal HD to an external one. I did "Reconnect Media" to update their location and they worked fine. Later, Final Cut started asking me to recconect the files manually as it loaded sequences. Eventually, it stopped working alltogether and the files cannot be reconnected. The reconnect window looks like this: http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/1055/picture13tv8.png
If I try to do locate and select the correct file, the connect button greys out and I'm forced to close the window.

I actually found a deeper problem... I actually got some files with the above error to connect, but some still refuse. The files that don't work somehow got corrupted and no longer appear to work. Opening them in Quicktime shows a file with no sound and no video.
This happened to me a while back ... same thing ... external drive containing all my files. One day FCP wouldn't reconnect and when i checked the files they came up as generic icons ... (in this case) no audio.
I had to go to my backup set and copy over the bad audio files. Everything worked fine after that. Needless to say, since that time i've maintained numerous backups of my media files in case this happens again.
I've always suspected directory damage caused the original problem.

  • Reconnect media attribute change

I am trying to revise a project and have moved the media from my MacBook Pro to an external drive. When I try to reconnect the media I gat an error saying "Some or more of the files you have chosen do not match the attributes of the original".
The attributes in question are the reel and rate. I have not changed anything, just moved them.
    Any ideas?

so, what you're saying is that you duplicated the contents of the capture scratch, from Disk A to Disk B
thats fine of course, but unless you've instructed to your FCP project to use the duplicate copy as the media source, then your project will still stay media is offline if you don't mount Disk A, because it doesn't know anything about Disk B ...
then again, you seem to be suggesting that Reconnect Media... is not letting you redirect the offline clips (on Disk A) to the new copies (on DIsk B) ?
the procedure that ought to work is:
in the Browser window, select all the offline clips, then choose File > Reconnect Media...
in the subsequent "Reconnect Files" window, click "Locate" and navigate the "Reconnect" browser to the new clip location on Disk B.
when you've selected the new copy of the clip, make sure the "Reconnect All Files in Relative Path" checkbox is ticked and then click the "Choose" button.
that should take you back to the Reconnect Files window, and the list of files in the upper pane should now have moved to thelower pane ... click "Connect" and you should be done.

  • Reconnect Media Bug

    Hi,
Keep hitting the same bug in FCPS2 Final Cut when reconnecting media and wondered if anyone else was aware of it and had a workaround. I'm reconnecting footage in FCP and searching drives for it to relink (onlining an offline FCP project). If whilst its searching I come out of Final Cut and go to the finder or a browser and then go back in when the search has failed, none of the buttons respond. This means I have to force quit FCP and start from scratch.
    Thanks

  • Reconnect Media Problem

One of my files on the FCP7 Timeline has gone offline. The file name is Clip #366. But when I Reconnect Media it will ONLY give me the option to Reconnect to Clip #367!
Out of frustration I tried to Reconnect to Clip #367 but then it wouldn't even allow me to do this!
What, if anything, am I doing wrong?

There won't be sync issues due to re-naming, however, when you export from QT you'll stamp it with a new timecode which will cause problems. Here's what I would try.
    1. Open clip in Qt and export, as mentioned.
    2. Bring that clip into FCP.
    3. Look at the Media Start timecode of your original clip in the Browser window and make a note of it.
    4. Double click the new duplicate of your clip to bring it to the Viewer, and ensure the playhead is at the very start.
    5. Go to Modify>Timecode... and enter the start timecode from you r original clip in the Source TC: Timecode box.
    6. Save.
    7. Reconnect to this new master clip, with it's new timecode.

  • Final Cut Pro won't reconnect media

I moved some media from one drive to another. When I now try to reconnect media using "search" , FCP finds the media, I click choose, but then it does not show up in the "files located" box. This does not happen with every file, but it does with most of them.
    Thanks

If you copy the media with the media manager instead... you don't have to reconnect... If you use Move, it will will delete the originals and copy will do just that. There's the option of creating a new project file in the process too, and if you do that copy will be connected to the copies. Move will reconnect the current project file's media. Moving on the desktop isn't the way to go here. Often, there's a corruption in the copies that way. QT movies just don't drag and drop right all the time for whatever reason.... but MM always makes perfect copies. Just as fast too.

  • Final Cut Pro refuses to Reconnect Media

I'm just figuring out FCP. I got far enough to import one hundred 9MB image files and cut it all together with music, titles, a FRAPS capture background, and basic motions. I exported an avi and uploaded to YouTube and such. So far, seems dandy.
Since it's on a dedicated machine at the office, I log in. When I came back to work on it some more the next day, FCP said my "media files are offline." I have all my files organized and shared on the LAN, so I figured out to Reconnect Media in chunks across my nine or so bins. I didn't have to reconnect all 100+ files individually. It's 3+ GB worth of data.
Today I log in, I get the ornery expected "offline" business, but for some random reason FCP will not match the filenames en masse anymore. It has decided it's looking for...
    Sketch 74 - Sunday Morn D0.tif
    ...instead of the real filename...
    Sketch 74 - Sunday Morning Restaurant 1-1.tif
FCP seems to have appended sequential HEX values to the filenames. Maybe I enabled some weird logging "feature"? It works as expected if I hard navigate to reconnect one image file.
Anyway, I can't edit a video if I have to reconnect 100 individual media files manually per login. Help?

I have "imported" my media files from across the network. I used the "Import" command and pointed to a network folder. There was difference - I put bins inside of bins to make a cleaner tree structure for myself.
I've begun the process of making my filenames more terse and even more organized. Hopefully I can just do one massive import when I login to work.

  • Reconnect Media In DVDSP

    Hi,
I'm wanting to create a template in DVD studio pro where in I create all the menu structures and links to media for project "A" then, hopefully, create project "B" by substituting the original media for new media.
I can do this easily in FCP by using the "Reconnect Media" command and just point my project to a new set of media.
Is there a similar technique that can be done in DVDSP?

      Mac OS X (10.3.7)

You can do this by creating the media you would like to use as replacements nd move the original media off - but if not the same length (movies different times etc.) you will have some differences
If you follow a set up like this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2061440&#2061440 copy the folder and replace the assets- if you have a m2v called mymovie.m2v - encode a new mymovie.m2v and it will show up as being changed.
