Reinstalling from back up

Lightroom 1.3.1 & Photoshop was running with out problems
I backed all of C drive to out board drive
I then installed new hard drive and reloaded XP
Photoshop CS2 reloaded and still linked to "recently opened"
Lightroom moved over from bach up will not load. When I click to load program, I get error message" Incorrect application configuration ..."
If I reload Lightroom 1.o from CD, then there are no links to library images.
I need help on possibel solutions:
1. correct application configuration to get L/R 1.3 to load from back up drive
2.Laod L/R 1.0 from CD, upgrade to 1,3,1 and then import? the links from my old 1.3 files. Where are these stored
3. Some one may have a better solution.
Thanks

I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Well first you have to figure out what is wrong with the machine and solve that problem first.
Your post is very vague on what occured, and there are many types of "crashes" it really depends upon what see on the screen and what the hardware does, we can't see it to tell you, so you have to tell us.
I suggest you run through these user tips and provide more information about your hardware.

If this is going way over your head, there are local PC/Mac techs that will assist you for a fee, Apple only does hardware repairs and is advised to use them if you discover it is, especially if under warranty/AppleCare.
Hard drive and RAM upgrades can be handled yourself or by a outside tech in many older models of Mac, but don't expect Apple to cover the new parts.

  • HT4847 Please help me how to reinstall icloud back up from specific date. (eg. back up from 1.02.13).

My phone was not backed up on icloud due to excess storage size for one month. Recently i lost some contacts by accident. and it was backed up on icloud again this morning .so I would like to reinstall from last month back up to get all contacts back. but when i connected to computer, I only have a choice to reinstall from last 5 months ago which was backed up on my computer manually. So, please help me how to choose to reinstall icloud back up from specific date from last month (eg. 02.02.2013). Thank you very much.

You cannot selectively restore from iCloud. You can only do a full device restore by resetting the device and choosing to restore from the iCloud backup during the setup process.

Need to free up the space that the ghost file take up so I can drag drop from ex drive onto harddrive

    Here's the scoop, new friend.....
When you boot into Time Machine you'll get the same OS X Utilities screen as you would if you booted into the Recovery HD. So, from there go into Disk Utilities to erase/format your internal drive. After that's done, back out to the OS X Utilities screen and select the restore option. Just follow the prompts to select the TM back up date you want to restore from and where to restore it to. Pretty straight forward.

FCE 4.0.1 won't open when I click the icon in the Dock or in the Applications icon of FCE. It had been working well but I had trouble when I trashed the reference Scratch disk to a project and I was asked to get it back. I checked all my drives through verify in Disk Utility and a couple needed repair - eventually were given the OK. I then Shut Down and rebooted, I then trashed the FCE App and reinstalled from the Install discs and , finally, I tried opening a FCE project. None of these caused the FCE App to open with Browser, Viewer, Canvas,. Time Line. All that happens is the the first FCE window, the one that says FCE registered to...and the other that says loading AE Effects, Video Effects does show but then nothing except my Desktop with it's various folders and files I also downloaded the Plug In Tom Wolsky suggested to a recent query.
All I can think of is to backup everything to HDs and take this iMac in for a service. It is only six months old - I reckon it will be poor driving by it's proud but unskilled driver!

    Don't panic . . . . . yet!
You may not have trashed FCE properly.
Deleting the application icon is useless as there are a number of files hidden elsewhere which may be corrupt.
Download this free app to uninstall FCE completely and then reinstall it.
FCS Remover - Uninstall Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack Pro, Color, DVD Studio Pro, LiveType, Cinema Tools
I know it is called FCS Remover but it also works for FCE.

  • How to reinstall iphoto on my iMac.  it is currently installed but wont open and says i need to reinstall from appstore

my iphoto is not working and it says to reinstall from appstore but in the appstore it shows already installed and there is no option to reinstall. do I need to try to move my current iphoto to the trash? if so what about all my pictures

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Intel Mac Mini crash.  Restore from TimeMachine failed.  Reinstall from DVD failed

I am at a loss.  My Mac Mini (Intel 2.53ghz, 10.6.7, 4gb RAM) froze today.  Mouse would still move the cursor, but nothing responded.  After letting it go for perhaps a half hour, waiting for a chance to get control back or to perhaps relaunch Finder, I gave up and turned it off by holding down the power button.  On reboot, it would not make it past the startup screen.  I inserted the restore DVD that came with this Mac Mini, it booted from the DVD and I tried reinstalling OSX 10.6 from the DVD.  It proceeded to around 30% install and crashed.  I turned it off again, started up again form the DVD, and went into Disk Utility.  I verified the internal HD and it had no errors and nothing to repair.  This time I went directly to a restore from my TimeMachine backup.  (I had actually installed one new program today, and in case that program was the issue I chose a restore from the morning a few hours before that new program was added.)  The restore progressed to 86.6%, then crashed.  I saved the installer log to an external drive.
I took a few hours away from it, but came back after a few hours.  I attempted to boot from the DVD again, and it would not get beyond the Apple sreen.  I turned it off by holding down the power button, unplugged the power supply, and searched online for around 30 minutes.  After finding little online, I booted from the DVD again, this time succesfully, and am currently running a TimeMachine restore again which I started after I began typing this entry because, honestly, when I started typing this I didn't think it would boot from the DVD again.  At the moment, the resotre is at 12.7%, but considering it crashed at 86.6% last time, I'm not too hopeful.
Any thoughts or advice?  I'm not totally freaked out as I keep all documents on two external drives and backed up, in addition to having a 2tb TimeMachine drive with this system, all connected by fw800.  But... it's not like I don't want to get this Mac Mini working again.  It's from November 2009 an I don't have Apple Care for it, which I suppose means they'll charge me a fortune if I take it in.   (I'm grateful to have this 11.6" MacBook Air to work on.)
Until Disk Utility told me that the internal drive was okay, I was thining I should try sticking a new hd inside and reinstalling from there.  Not sure what to do if this TimeMachine restore fails.  (at 18.5% now.)
My thanks to any who read this.

Thanks for responding.  I forgot to come here and delete this thread.  As it turned out, I switched from trying to use the OSX Install disc that came with the Mac Mini and instead used a Snow Leopard retail dvd.  That disc worked perfectly.  Pretty disturbing that the dvd that came with the computer would not work, while a store bought one worked.  Glad I bought a retail version of OSX to hackintosh a dell mini or I wouldn't havebeen able to fix this.

  • Safari will not stop CRASHING! Reinstalled from disc and STILL crashing!

    Here is my tragic story...
The day Safari 3.0 beta came out, I upgraded to it. I've had zero problems with it since until just recently. I was using my laptop without a power cord and received the "You are now running on reserve power..." warning. I left my computer for a moment and when I came back it had completely run out of power and turned itself off. As far as I know, its not supposed to do that and instead put itself to sleep and not turn completely off. Anyway, I plugged it in and booted it back up. I went back to work as usual, but shortly after launching Safari 3.0, which I'd been using right before the computer shut itself down, Safari just froze and then closed itself. I tried to reopen it and it did the same thing. This is without me even going to a web site.
Long story short, I reverted back to 2.0 using the convenient uninstall package Apple provides in the Safari 3.0 beta. I thought this would solve all my problems, but it certainly did not. Immediately upon launching Safari 2.0, it crashed. Again, this is without me even going to a web site.
This brings us to the present day. I was advised to remove all Safari files from my computer (of course I backed up my bookmarks etc.) and then to reinstall the original Safari 2.0 from the Tiger installation disc...
I just finished doing that and, of course, immediately after launching Safari 2.0 that I had just reinstalled from the Tiger installation disc...it crashed without me even going to a web site.
What do I need to do to get Safari 2.0 working on my computer again?!?!
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi,
Are you have installed some 3th party plugins ? or scripts that are related to the safari application.
Did you try to trash the com.apple.Safari.plist in the Preferences folder ??
An if this is not working ... try the following ...
** Try to run the un-stall program that came with Safari beta 3 AGAIN ... AGAIN. Some this my be a help.

  • Can't find sound card after clean reinstall from scratch to vista 32 bit from 64

    Greetings Everyone,
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me with this frustrating problem.
I did a clean reinstall from scratch to move to vista 32 bit from vista 64.   None of my goodies (mp3 player, phone.. all sadly antiquated) played on the 64 version.  That's why I nuked it.
The reinstall worked like a charm, except now I can't get anything from the external jacks, which worked fine before the reinstall.  I've used every aspect of the device manager, and checked for downloads on each.  When I go to sound devices, it lists the soundcard as "high definition audio device," and says that the software has been updated.
The internal speakers are the delightful Altec Lansings.. and they work fine.  In fact, when I plug something into the headphone jacks, they continue working.
Therefore, I'm trying to find the name of the sound card installed on my build, and then find the driver for it.
Here's all the specs from the back if you need them:
Product: hp pavillion dv 9843cl refurbished
I'm a music lover, and I love this computer, and I'll be sooooo happy if I can get this fixed.   I'm facing music withdrawals, and getting weaker by the day.
Could anyone please offer me advice?
If there's any other information you need to know, please let me know.
    Thanks so much!

  • Iphoto won't open.  Reinstalled from iLife.  Little thing just spins and spins.  Any suggestions? disk and still nothing.

iPhoto won't open.  Little circle/wheel icon just keeps spinning.  Reinstalled from iLife disk, and still no luck.  Any suggestions?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
