Reinstalling iPhoto from iLife DVD

After i migrated back from my Lion clone after a clean Lion install, i have had issues with iPhoto. How can i totally remove iPhoto, or another iLife apps, so when i reinstall the software, there won't be several copies of iLife apps left? Where are the pkgs. contents, etc for the iLife Apps on Lion? Also have Airport utility installed several times, and i need to remove those as well.
Oh, and when i reset my TC, i know i need airport 5.6 to set it up, but should i keep it installed and still have airport 6.0 as well? Or should remove 5.6 after i set up TC and wifi network, then remove 5.6 and install 6.0 ?
Thanks

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • How do I upgrade to the new iPhoto from iLife 11 from iPhoto 8.1.2?

I have iPhoto 8.1.2 running on a MacBookPro using OS X 10.7.2.  When I went to the App Store to buy iPhoto from iLife 11, it pointed out I had 8.1.2 installed but not purchased from the App Store, and asked if I wanted to buy iPhoto 9.2.  Do I have to buy 9.2 first, then 11?

Marketing names and version numbers are confusing.
The marketing name iPhoto 6 corresponded to the version 6
The marketing name iPhoto 08 corresponded to the version 7
The marketing name iPhoto 09 corresponded to the version 8
The marketing name iPhoto 11 corresponded to the version 9
So, v9.2 is the current version of iPhoto 11.
Not that this is confusing or anything.

  • Installing (ripping) iPhoto from Tiger DVD

Is it possible to install iPhoto from the Tiger Upgrade DVD? I removed iPhoto and now I need to re-install it. I don't want to waster $79.00 for iLife programs I won't use.
    20 IMac, G5, 1.8Ghz, 160HD, 2GB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

It is possible. Install the bundled appplications but select the Custom install and untick everything but iPhoto. I would suggest you double-check before pressing "Continue".

  • Reinstalling iPhoto (and iLife?) on OS 10.7

On the Apple iPhoto forum, I have established that I need to remove iPhoto from my new computer and reinstall it.
With OS 10.7 this presents a new challenge as there no disks came with the computer. Do I restart holding down command + R key or do I go to the App Store on the computer to reinstall iPhoto?
    Thanks for your help.
    John

It's always difficult to know what is off topic. This seemed to me to be a OS 10.7-specific question. The iPhoto expert has been great but seems to still be coming up-to-speed on OS 10.7 and it's all new to me as own machine is running 10.5.8. However, I'll take this question back to the iPhoto forum as you suggest.

  • Reinstalling OS from external DVD drive

How do I reinstall the OS from a DVD in an external DVD drive connected to the USB port on my MacBook?
    Thank you.

I don't think you can, only via the external optical drive.
You can try a USB though, or install on a external drive, then option boot from it then clone it to the external drive.

  • Trying to reinstall iPhoto from original OSX disc...

I need to reinstall the iPhoto application (as it has stopped working when the icon was clicked...)
Here's my issue. When I insert the original Mac OSX (restore) disk that came with my computer, and click on "Install Bundled Software Only" I get the error message "that package is damaged and cannot be read."
I checked the disk and it appears to be free of scratches, blemishes, etc.
I've also tried using the shareware program Pacifist to try reinstalling it that way; however, in the list of files/folders that come up in Pacifist, I cannot find iPhoto anywhere.
    Any ideas?

    Argelius,
Yes, it's called the "wait till I figure out what the heck is happening here ball"
You may have a damaged data file/files, which unfortunately there is no solution other than to create a new library and import the images from the old.
Take a look at iPhoto Help page first and see if there is anything there you haven't tried yet.
    iPhoto Help
    iPhoto Help 2
    Then if all else fails, here are the instructions for creating a new library;
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

  • Can't reinstall iPhoto from App Store

Before the 10.7.2 update, I had iLife '11 installed on my new MacBook Pro. When the update came out for 10.7.2, it needed to update iPhoto as well in order to sync with iCloud properly, so I went into the App Store and did that. However, the download got interrupted and I couldn't install it for some reason after that. I go to iPhoto, and it says "Accept" instead of "Install"-- I click it, it asks me for my Apple ID and password, and when I enter it, I get this message:
"These apps have already been accepted. These apps were already assigned to your Apple ID and are available in your Purchases list."
But the problem is, iPhoto ISN'T in my purchases list. I tried "check for unfinished downloads" and have searched the forums for hours with no luck. This seems like a pretty big bug and I'm hoping it gets resolved soon. Currently I have no way of downloading iPhoto! The rest of iLife works fine however.
Basically, I need a way to make iPhoto reappear on my "Purchases" list-- there's a little X by the apps as you scroll over them, but no way that I can see to make everything that was purchased appear if it is missing for some reason.
(note: I did a clean install of the latest version of Lion after this fiasco, but unfortunately it looks as though everything was saved on my Apple account so I have the same problem still-- and can't get iPhoto, even with a factory reset machine).
    PLEASE HELP!! Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Apple has an option to "Hide" a purchase. For some reason iPhoto was hidden, so it would not appear in my purchase list.
To Unhide your purchases, go to Store->View account from the App store on your mac. If you have any hidden purchases it should give you the option to unhide it. After you unhide, the application will be avaible again on the purchase list and you can download it again. The Accept button should disapear and it should show "install" again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing with themes in Iphoto (from ILife 08)

I suppose this sounds really silly, but were themes SUPPOSE TO COME with the ILife08? or is there something more we must buy? I don't understand the home based theme printing?

    Peggy:
Themes for what? There are themes for books, calendars, cards and numerous styles of borders for regular prints.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I am unable to import new photos in iPhoto 11. Perhaps I should just reinstall from iLife disk? Will it affect my photos in any way?

    Hello,
I have iPhoto 11 installed on my MacBook. I am now unable to import new photos using USB or by plugging the camera directly into the laptop. Never had that probem before with this camera. Perhaps just reinstall iPhoto from the iLife disk?

    Hello Terence,
Okay I will try reformating the camera's card. However all is well when I export photos to my iMac at home or onto my iPad.
If your suggestion does not work should I try reinstalling iPhoto from the iLife disk? If so, how do I go about doing that or is there a website somewhere explaining this?
    Regards,
    Tom

  • Installed iDVD from iLife 11 and now iPhoto won't open

Despite the decree from Apple that physical media is dead, I still wanted to make a DVD of something I made in iMovie but I could not find iDVD anywhere on my 2011 Mac Mini. Since iDVD was available in the App Store, I bought a copy of iLife '11 from Amazon and installed iDVD only (everything else was greyed out, except iWeb which I deselected). Now I can no longer open iPhoto! I can't remember the exact dialog box warning, but something about being damaged (I'm away from my Mac). I ran software update and there was an update for iDVD which I installed. I've restarted, I've repaired permissions, and nothing works. I've tried holding down Option while opening iPhoto but it still says it's damaged or incomplete.

In order to burn DVDs which are playable in DVD players (and TV), you need authoring/burning software - Finder cannot do that. It can burn DVDs which will play in computers, but not in DVD players. And yes, there are other burn software solutions; however, not one is close to the capabilities of iDVD.
For the OP: How did you initially obtain iPhoto? I would do a systemwide search and throw anything with iPhoto in the trash (don't empty!) - then reinstall iPhoto from the Mac App Store (if that is where you got it initially). If you can get past those hiccups, iDVD works well with both Lion and Mountain Lion; I have it installed and just finished a big movie project with it.

I had this same problem. There is probaby a iTunes help file or something like that running in the background. I think you can look in system profiler and find what is running and shut it down. Once you do this you should be able to load iPhoto for the iLife disk. I am not at my mac right now. I will check this evening when I get home and see where I found the file running and post a more detailed response.

  • IPhoto has somehow uninstalled itself, or I've done something wrong. If  try to open iPhoto, it gives me this message: "You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete. I have an iMac OS X. How do I reinstall iPhoto please

iPhoto has somehow uninstalled itself, or I've done something wrong. If I try to open iPhoto, it gives me this message: "You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete". I have an iMac OS X. How do I reinstall iPhoto please?

What is your iPhoto version and how did you install it originally?
If it came with a new mac and Lion or Mt. Lion installed, you can delete iPhoto from the Applications folder (don't empty the Trash) and download it again from the "Purchased" tab of the App Store.
If you have bought the iLife CD, reinstall iPhoto from the installation media, after deleting it from the Application folder.
Or if your Mac came with an older MacOS X, but iLIfe preinstalled, use the system Install CDs,  see Terence Devlin's post here:  Re: My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.
    Regards
    Léonie
P.S: This may not only be a problem of a broken iPhoto. What did you do, directly before this happened? Did you run a program, that will clean the Mac to save space, like "Clean My Mac" or "Mac Keeper"? These little helpers can be risky and overdo it and remove too much. Then it might be safer to reinstall your system, because other essential files might be missing now.
