Reinstalling iTunes, library, Apps, etc.?

I had a computer crash after installing Win7-64 sp1. Everything on my hdd was backuped, but my music, etc, was not backed up via iTunes. Can I simply install iTunes on my reformated hdd, place the music, etc. back in My Music, and have iTunes "see" and "accept" my library? If not, what would be the proper procedure? Thanks. BTW, I've heard that iTunes may NOT work with the sp1. Is this a fact, a "sometimes" situation, or what?

Generally speaking, it's probably best to use iTunes on your computer to get the apps, not the app store on the phone.
With the phone connected to the computer, when you select the phone in iTunes and select Apps at the top of the screen, is the Face Book application selected?  If it isn't, the Face Book app isn't going to be synced to your phone.
iTunes is used to manage your phone and it's content.

  • Share Library, Apps etc. to family members

My wife got an iPad and I want to share with here my ITunes library, apps etc. I have found the Support Answer how I can deactivate an account from a family member but how can I connect a Family member to my existing iTunes account? Do my wife need an account and if yes how can I connect it to my account.

    Hi Jolly,
thanks for the fast reply. I think my case is little more complicated.
    1. I use a MBP 13', the major library is on this computer; I use a iPod Touch, an iPad 2
    2. My wife is using a Windows notebook and got an iPod 2
We will use all apps which I bought in the past and which we will buy in the future
My son will get the iPod touch and will use the same apps (sure, more games)
I am looking for a solution, that we can use my account, two computer, but each family member can access to all apps. and the bought music songs. Furthermore I will ensure, that we can communicate via FaceTime between each other (I guess, each person need an individual ID).
    Thanks for your reply!

  • TS1702 What to do when you get "iTunes library app not installed on iPhone; app could not be found"

What to do when you get "iTunes library app not installed on iPhone; app could not be found". None of the Apple suggestions fix the problem. For example, with Animoto, one of the problem apps, I have removed it, reinstalled it, and still get the eoor message.

    Of course.
First of all, this started when an external drive i was using died on me. I have no doubt that these apps indeed are off my system. I figure between the apps I've bought for myself and my kid, I have about 150 apps.
    Now. The issue.
When I sync my iPad with iTunes on my desktop, it goes through normally until it gets to the apps. When that happens, it get an error box that reads "Some of the apps in your iTunes library were not installed on the iPad because one or more errors occurred. For a list of appps that could not be installed, click on the triangle below."
Then I get a list of apps.
(Added note to any iTunes developers out there: The titles of the apps in this list do not always match the titles of the apps in the App Store. For example, one was called "MuseumGame" on my iPad. It's called "Museum of Thieves" on the App Store. I started out with a list of 60 apps. It was a major pain to track them all down. It would be nice to have everything the same so I can use the App Store search more effectively.)
    Anyway, moving on....
The error message stops my sync until I dismiss it. That, honestly, is what makes this whole thing annoying enough to seek out an answer. I can't let my iPad start syncing and walk out of the room. Yeah. I know. First World problems.
Once I dismiss the error, the sync continues and all is well.
I did the following to try to fix the problem. Mostly, I did a lot of searches:
My list of purchased apps on my iPad both using the search box and by going to every page
Searched the main App Store on my iPad using the search field. When that didn't work, I used wider searches and just scanned the page(s) for the little cloud icon that showed I had purchased the app.
I got on my desktop iTunes and searched the apps from there (without a lot of hope, but trying to be complete)
At that point, I came to the conclusion that a small number of the apps are no longer available on the App Store.
Fine. I didn't want them anyway.
I got into iTunes and went to the Apps page. None of the errant apps showed up there. I searched the iTunes help files. Nothing. I crossed my fingers, said a little prayer to the search engine gods, and tried Google. I found some things that sort of matched but they basically boiled down to "re-download the app from the App Store" or "Restore your iPad".
So I spent a couple of hours restoring my iPad. I got the error message again. I hit Google again and came up with this thread. It was as close to my problem as I found.
I think that brings us up to date.
My fundamental problem is that I seem to have found a scenario where if you have to restore apps (because, perhaps, your external drive died) and some of the apps are no longer available for download, there is an error generated that can not be permanently dismissed.
    Did I miss anything important?

  • My macbook pro logic board died. I had all my music on an external drive. How do I get my iTunes library, playlists etc. from my dead computer onto my new one?

My logic board died on my old macbook pro. I have a new one, but I want to get my iTunes library off my old hard drive and put it on my new one. I had set up my old MBP to store all my iTunes music on an external drive, so I have the music. The iTunes program was on the old MBP hard drive. How do I essentially recreate my previous iTunes library, playlists, etc on my new laptop?

You will need the iTunes Library.itl file which generally lives in ~/Music/iTunes/. You can recover this from the backups you were making before the HDD died. Otherwise, you cannot recreate the library.

  • Wiped computer and when reinstalling itunes my apps are all gone?

Ok, first time poster here and I would like to mention I am a complete n00b at all this computer related business so please don't make fun :P
My computer was acting funny so I decided to wipe/restore it. Today I reinstalled itunes and when I logged into my account I noticed everything was gone under my application purchaces. I've bought many apps and now I'm kind of scared to plug in my itouch for fear of losing all my purchaces when I sync it to my newly wiped computer.
I've tried searching the support on here, but like I mentioned before, I kind of suck and get way too confused at everything computer related. Did wiping my computer essentially permanently delete all my bought apps?

You can transfer you iTunes purchases to your now "new" computer by"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
You can also redownload app at no additional cost. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Since you now have what appears to be a "new" iTunes library, you will not be able to backup to the "new" computer. After you move /get you stuff on the "new" computer I would let the computer/iTunes erase your iPod and replace it with the contents in iTunes on the new computer. All you app data will be lost. If you have any non-iTunes purchased music you can move that to your new computer by:

  • Cannot restire iTunes Songs, Apps, etc.

I cannot get my songs, apps etc. back into iTunes after reinstalling original software and updating it to 10.5.6. iTunes content disapeared. Also, updated to iTunes 8 but software will not let me use 2.2.
    1. How do I restore my account? I have tried to do this via hard drive backups but nothing is working.
    2. Also, I have trouble downloading Apps onto my iPhone. I pay but they never download.
    3. I thought updating to 2.2 would fix this but my iTunes 8 says my iPhone software is current.
    Thank you!

    Hi ttheothereye,
Under the "View" option at the top, click on the "Show Sidebar". That will bring back the sidebar you are used to seeing, and will list your device the way you are looking for.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I migrate my iTunes library, playlists, etc from XP to Windows 7?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered before.  I cannot find a relevant article with google or the
    search here on Apple support.
My iTunes library is on an external drive.  iTunes keeps a few folders in XP
    on the C: drive under
    Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple,
    Documents and Settings\Mike\Application Data\Apple,
    Docuemnts and Settings\Mike\Local Settings\Apple, and
    Docuemnts and Settings\Mike\Local Settings\Apple Computer.
I copied these folders to my external drive and hooked it up to my new computer
that runs Windows 7 where I had already installed a new copy of iTunes.
I tried copying the folders that were on the (XP) C: drive to my best guess as to where
they would go on the (W7) C: drive.  Microsoft being Microsoft, they cannot let
the names of anything remain the same.
I set the preferences on my W7 iTunes to point to the external drive as my library
location.  Nothing happened.  I tried restarting iTunes, but still my existing data was not
    acknowledged.
I then used the import files from folder option, using the location of the ITUNES folder
on my external drive.  This ran fairly quickly.  But, to my dismay, all my ratings were
lost and (thinking about it, not surprisingly) none of my playlists were there either.
So, does anyone have any experience on what files should be copied from XP to W7
and where?  It seems to me this should not be that difficult.  After all, the data is
    all there, right?
One article I read suggested using the iPod as a backup device to transfer the files.
Would this work?  Would it also transfter the playlists, ratings, etc?  My concern
(again based on another article I read) is that I will wind up with duplicate copies
of all the music in my music library.
(As a precaution, I have backups of my iTunes library and the (XP) C: folders on
two other external drives.  Also, the XP PC still has iTunes on it, so I could easily
reconnect the external drive there and do other stuff if necessary.
When I purchased my new iPod, it took almost 24 hours to transfter my music library
to it.  It also takes almost 24 hours to do the drive to drive backup.  (Maybe my new
computer will be faster.)  Based on this experience, I would like to avoid having the
migration of data take that long.
If the changes I made to the W7 PC need to be undone, I can easily just remove iTunes
    there and start again.
I hope my question is clear and I thank you for your time.
    Cordially, MZ
PS: The XP box is an IBM and the W7 box is a new Dell.  Both are desktop models.

You will need the iTunes Library.itl file which generally lives in ~/Music/iTunes/. You can recover this from the backups you were making before the HDD died. Otherwise, you cannot recreate the library.

  • ITunes Store Apps (etc) Page Numbers, Wish List For My iTunes Account

Why doesn't the iTunes Store have page numbers under each page of the items (songs, e-books, apps, etc), because with over 200000 apps I will be damned if I am going to go back to the start of each apps category (for example) clicking in increments of 12 apps at a time until I get to app number 7264!!!!!! I WILL JUST STOP USING THE APPS STORE!!!
Some apps have a PRODUCTIVITY button in the left top corner that will take you back to the last apps browsing page you were on, while other apps have a BACK button in the top left corner WHICH TAKES YOU RIGHT BACK TO THE FIRST PAGE OF THE APPS CATEGORY YOU WERE BROWSING, so if you were up to app 734 (for example) you have to click through 64 apps pages JUST TO GET BACK TO THE APP YOU WERE UP TO LAST!!! INFURIATING - BEGGARS BELIEF!?!
WHY CANT I CLICK AN 'ADD TO WISH LIST' BUTTON ON EACH APP PAGE, SO I ALSO DONT HAVE TO BROWSE THROUGH ANOTHER 100 PAGES OF APPS TO FIND THE ONE I LOOKED AT IN MY LAST ISTORE SESSION??????
Hasn't anyone at apple used eBay or amazon???

Update: As of this morning the updates were GONE again, so I'm thinking this may recur on and off until all settles after the launch of new software and iDevices this week.

  • How to transfer iTunes library & apps on old computer to new computer?

Hi, I've just bought a new laptop and haven't managed to work out how to transfer my music library & apps from my old laptop onto my new one.
What is the easiest way to do this?
    Thanks.

What i did was copy my itunes library which is located in your home folder in the music folder.

  • Reinstall iTunes library from iPhone

I realize now that there is no way to transfer songs, videos, podcasts from my Phone to iTunes (I recently had to do an erase and install) - but I did save a previous system folder prior to the erase and install. Is there somewhere in that folder that I may find my old iTunes library and reinstall to the new iTunes?

Depends on what that system folder is... by default, iTunes music files are stored in
    /Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/
Have you tried seeking a third party application to recover your library from your iPhone and saving it to iTunes?

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling itunes library

My computer recently crashed and upon being fixed the computer wants to configure iTunes.  An 2330 error comes up about renting movies.  It says if it won't fix to uninstall and reinstall iTunes.  If I do that does my library then need to be reinstalled too or does it come back automatically.

Reinstalling iTunes should not affect your library. Back it up anyway. See this User Tip for an effective backup strategy.

  • Drive fail / replace / reinstall itunes library and lots missing

My Hard drive failed on my 7 month old air. Was replaced by Apple, no problem.  I am now going through the process of reinstalling everything from my backup drive. My itunes Library sits on a external drive, and has been great.  Now when I go to install my iTunes library, I am missing some artists, a lot of artwork ( alot of what I listen to is not available in the itunes store, so many hours hunting that stuff down) most the metadata I had been adding to the albums / artists. Also play counts are missing.  Any ideas?  Thanks

i would look into changing the directory that itunes uses for finding your music...do a search on the forums here under USING EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, OR CHANGE MUSIC DIRECTORY. I have seen it on here when I was going to use an external myself.....Good Luck!

  • How do i create a new itunes for me on brothers mac without loosing his on my own itunes and apps etc

    anyone can help ?

The most practical option would most likely be for you to have your own Mac OS X user account on that computer. Then your iTunes library will be completely separate from your brother's.
    Regards.

  • How to import my data(Mail, iCal, iTune songs & apps, etc.) to MacBook Pro?

I used firewire cable to migrate my data from old PBG4 to new MacBook Pro.
But still wonder how I can bring or import
    - my old mails from Mail
    - iCal schedules
    - Address Book cotacts
    - iTunes songs & all apps for iPhone
    - some Safari/ Firefox bookmark
Thanks much in advance for help!

I understood the location where I could import from or export to. But I was (and am) quite confused to understand possible problems if the importing files are not compatible on two different computers such as G4 and intel-based mac.
Now I'm done importing those data, but not quite sure I did check correct way if those files are compatible. Everything seems fine, though.
