Reinstalling iTunes to correct problem

I have had a problem with iTunes. It crashes whenever i try to play a CD and i have to force quit. So i tried to reinstall the application with an iLife '05 CD-rom. I don't have an OS X disc so i found a cheap used iLife disc. I was hoping the reinstall would overwrite the corrupted itunes on my computer, which is a later version than on the '05 ilife disc. But after installing from this ilife disc the application was unchanged and also still looking like the later version. So i am wondering - If i buy a $129 OS X disc and then reinstall itunes from that, will it overwrite the application completely and hopefully solve the problem? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Please help me. I have an Ipod Shuffle and Ipod Nano both the latest versions. I can not get them to communicate with my ITunes. I cannot find "Other" devices. I found Apple Mobile Device under Universal Bus Controllers but cannot see "recovery mode" or any other status. I use Windows Vista.
When I try to restart Apple Mobile Device Service I get the following message: "The Apple Mobile Device Service on Local Computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs". What does this mean?
During the last 48 hours I was able to see my iPad in iTunes only one time during many attemnpts to connect . I haven't been able to see it during the llast several attempts.
Any suggestions? The standard suggestions have not worked: i.e. stop then start AMDS; tuurn off iPad and PC, then restart both and reconfrom iPad to PC; reload iTunes.

Reinstalling itunes after computer problems

hi, i have lost everything on my computer recently including my music and have no back-up. I reinstalled itunes and 3 songs however not all my songs were purchased on itunes. Does this mean when i plug my ipod in i will lose everything? I pluged it in and it started syncing however i cancelled it fearing it would only give me the 3 songs ive downloaded so far. Is their any way i keep everything on my ipod. Many thanks in advance.

You could try a 3rd party program at your own risk ( not supported by Apple).
Where is your backup copy of all important info/music/pics/docs?

Nano ver 6 doesn't show up even after reinstalling iTunes which had to be done because of problems with all Apple devices after trying to update iTunes via a message from Apple.

Nano ver 5/6 doesn't show up in iTunes even after having to reinstall iTunes because of problems with trying to update iTunes after receiving message from Apple that an update was available. Other Apple products are showing up.

So, i updated my itunes file when the message popped up, but after i restarted my computer like i was told to do by itunes, it would no longer open. the following message pops up: " This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes."
the problem is, i have over 1000 songs and most of them came from CD's that i borrowed from friends and such. only a handful of songs have i bought straight from the iTunes store. I do not want to lose these. is there anyway to preserve these songs, but still get itunes running like normal? if so, how?

Try contacting iTunes via email to check if there is an issue with the account. go to apple.com/support/itunes
Click on iTunes Store account and billing and select inquiries. On the right side click on "email us".
Before doing that trying viewing your account information first. Open the iTunes on you mac, look at the menu and select store and select view my account. Try removing the card (this is only applicable if you don't have a pending charges with iTunes) and hit done. Sign out, quit iTunes and sign back in and try updating the apps again.

Try opening Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates then checking for the Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2918614). , Uninstall if you have it, then reboot.
There is a strong hint here that it should resolve this issue, although personally I have that update installed and have been able to remove and reinstall iTunes without any problem.
Click for more on KB2918614 which is an update to the Windows Installer Service released July 12th 2014. The timing and nature of the update suggest a connection with the "Object already exists" issue which affects other installations as well as iTunes.

I have tried everything......including Best Removal Tool with forced uninstall and I still cannot get all of the files off Vista so I can reinstal iTunes. This problem started when I was told to download the latest version (10.6) of itunes. It did not function properly after I did that and told me to uninstall and reinstall itunes. Can anyone help me?

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch properly now?

I had to re-install iTunes 7.02 (the latest version) because when I wanted to update album art on my iPod it errored out "Unknown Error -50). Reinstalling iTunes fixed that problem and I didn't have to restore my iPod. BUT now my DVD drive lost it's icon, it used to be one that looked like a box with a cd on top of it, now it is a box with what looks like a floppy drive on it. It works ok and I can right click on it and it is still known as a DVD drive and this is just a cosmetic issue I know, but still it isn't the right icon for this drive. I have tried the Autoplay fix program from Microsoft but that doesn't fix it. I have tried the Tweak Windows XP Repair Icons function and that doesn't fix it either.
I have an Insignia D400A with a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor and two 512 MB sticks of RAM and the op sys is Windows XP SP2.
Is there a way to fix this icon problem?

Don’t feel like uninstalling all Apple software and then re-installing it as suggested, as I am on a terribly slow internet connection while travelling in the DR Congo.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
