Reinstalling mac os x, don't want to loose song information
Dear Apple Forum,
First of all, you guys are great, you helped me already a great deal by just reading some questions posted and those solved all my problems. today i have to ask a question personally though cause can't really find a detailed answer although I'm sure its there already.
anyway, I'm formating my computer and upgrading to tiger.
I've got lots and lots of music + photos that are both carefully organized.
to start with a iTunes library of 14.000 song, each rated. I've got the music already on an external hard drive, so i just just need to find out how to keep al song ratings and information when i reinstall mac os. can anyone help on that. I'm sure there's an easy way to keep my library exactly how it is now with ratings and play lists.
my iPhoto is also nicely organised with all photos named in iPhoto and many albums with names and stuff. all photos are still on internal hard drive.
again, how can i reinstall and format hard drive by keeping all photos organized and named?
thanks a lot for anyone able to help me out.
greetings from Belgium
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)
Sebbe3825,
Welcome to Discussions.
Did you move the music to the external using these instructions:?
iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder
If you did not delete the iTunes Music folder yet (instruction 13), verify that your songs play from the external. Then trash the iTunes Music folder. Be careful not to delete the iTunes folder, but only the 'iTunes Music' folder inside it.
Then copy the 'iTunes Library' file to the external drive. This file contains all song locations, playlists, ratings and comment. You might as well copy the 'iTunes Music library.xml' file. This one is not really needed but can be used by iTunes in case there is a problem with the 'iTunes Library' file.
After formatting and upgrading to Tiger, put the 'iTunes Library' file at the original location.
Then connect the external drive and run iTunes. It should recognize the library at once.
You can find more info about the library files here:
What are the iTunes library files?
I'm not very familiar with iPhoto, but as far as I know you can just copy the entire 'iPhoto Library' folder (in Users/Username/Pictures) to the external.
After upgrading your system, put the folder back to it's original location.
My advice is to verify this in the iPhoto forum.
Hope this helps.

No, it won't. Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer.
There's also Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes or anywhere else you specify on your computer. -

How can I move my photo albums from mini ipad to Apple Mac. I don't want photo roll
How can I move my photo albums from mini ipad to Apple Mac. I don't want photo roll
That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
iPhoto for IOS and for the Mac share only a name at this time - not a data structure - unfortunately you can not currently do what you want even though it makes a lot of sense

Displays:New computer.... The most I can say with your current setup...
Your internal HD should really only be used for OS and Programs.
This question will be moved to the hardware forum soon enough but, you should consider getting an external HD to work from, preferably USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt... but that won't save you depending on the type of media you're using and the amount of effects you use. -

I'm want to by mac pro , mac book beacuse don't want intel cpu
I'm want to by mac pro , mac book beacuse don't want intel cpu
I might add if you are dreaming of adding an AMD chip to your Mac, dream on. The EFI firmware is very strict about what can run on the Mac. While some efforts have been made to bypass it, running a Mac operating system on such a machine is unreliable at best, and nonfunctional at worst. The integration of software and hardware is what makes Macs unique. It also is what generally makes them much more reliable. Hardware issues do happen, but not as frequently as this board makes it seem. This is a hospital ward. Mac users who have less problems are usually found at http://www.apple.com/usergroups/

I have the latest version of iTunes and when I went to go open it, it can't! It says: "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.Error 7 (Windows error 126)" What do I do now? Should I uninstall and try installing it again? I don't want to loose any of my music and info. PLEASE HELP!
Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

I have the photographer plan With Photoshop and Lightroom. Now suddenly The creative cloud app says that Lightroom isn´t installed. It is and how do i fix this. I don´t want to loose any pictures. Tried logging in and out. Also restarted my Imac with no luck.
This has nothing to do with your pictures. As long as LR works, nothing happens. The CC app merely has lost an entry in the installer database. Would a reinstall fix it? Sure. Is it necessary? Not really (until the next version or update). So unless you have too much time to spend or something isn't working, I'm sure you can find more interesting things to do with your tiem. Otherwise use the cleaner tool and get to it:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

On my iphone3gs..some of icons aren't opening up. Esp sound hound ,I don't want too loose it ,as have lots of references up in there .. Some of others ,like ,weather , stocks are opening.. Any ideas out there please..and thank you..
You can also try backing up your iPhone and restoring the iOS. This will erase everything then you can restore fomr your backup to bring back you apps and all of the associated data. If you decide to do the easier steps of deleting and reinstalling the individual app, you will loose the data contained within that app, unless there is a log in account associated when you set up the app (like connect to facebook, or another internet account).
How to backup and restore from a backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
How to restore the iOS: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Backup, then restore iOS, then restore form backup (if you decide to do this) -
I am connecting my iPhone to iTunes and all it is letting me do is restore my phone which I don't want to loose all my photos
There are some instructions on this page for syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
If you want to copy the photos off your phone (and they weren't originally to your phone from a computer) then on a PC you can use the windows camera wizard, and on a Mac you can use Image Capture, iPhoto or Aperture : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 -
I recently purchased a song from itunes and when the song downloaded, it deleted/removed my entire song library. Only leaving the one song.
My photos and aps are still there, but no songs. Anyone ever encounter this and how do you fix it? I don't want to loose my songs as some are not in MY itunes library. HelpIf the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup. -
Please, please PLEASE help. I don't want to loose my pics of my sons birth and the newest update is directing me to restore my phone. I can't get out of the "conect to itunes screen" Can I still save my pics???
You should never update without importing your photos as you would with any digital camera.
The pics are very likely gone.
Sorry.
You can try restoring from backup
