Reinstalling Mac OS X without Installation disks?

I have an iMac flatpanel OS X 10.4.8 256 ram. Ive had it for around 5 years. Its very slow and crashes alot.
I have no files I want to keep and want to clear the computer fully off. I have misplaced the installation disks that came with the iMac
How could I reinstall this iMac without the original installation disks?
Where can i buy, download etc?
Please help

Hi vamos!
You could call Apple and see if you can get a set of replacements discs, for a small fee, or Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
The discs should look like the images in the above links.

  • How to reinstall mac os x without erase boot camp?

Situation:Today, i was using mac os x this morning, it worked fine. then when i went home from work, start up the macbook pro, it took like 4-5 minutes to start the login, then take 30-45 secs, then the desktop starting to freeze!
Notes: I have Boot Camp on it.
Question: Can i reinstall mac os x without erasing the boot camp patition?
    Thank you to reply!

Yes, if you think it's necessary you can hold c and boot off the installer OS X disk for your 10.6 and simply reinstall OS X and bundled programs right over the previous ones without it touching your files or other programs.
However, you should take ANY opportunity to transfer your files off the computer (manually, not via TimeMachine) just in case there is a bigger issue afoot, like a failing hard drive.
You might also want to take a look at the free OnyX, run all the maintainence and cleaning aspects and reboot.
Covers a ton of bases in one place.

  • How to rebuild OS, without installation disk(s)?

I recently purchased a Mac Pro.  It did not come with a restore installation disk.  If I needed to rebuild my OS, how do I do it without installation disks?

Restart with the Option key held down and use the preloaded recovery partition. If that becomes unavailable, the computer will download a new one from Apple's servers.

  • Can somebody please explain how to format and then reinstall Mac lion10.7 without cd

can somebody please explain how to format and then reinstall Mac lion10.7 without cd

You will need either an Ethernet or Wifi Connection to the Internet - USB Mobile device is not supported.
If you already have Lion installed you can boot to Recovery with Command R and use the Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD and then reinstall the OS from the Mac OS X Utilities.
You will need the Apple Id used for purchase if the Mac did not ship with Lion installed originally.
If you want to repartition the HDD you can use the Recovery Disk Assistant to make a recovery USB drive

As Always - Back up the Mac before erasing unless you are confident there is absolutely nothing on the mac that you might possibly need later.
If the machine is a 2011 build or later you might be able to boot to Internet Recovery with Command Option R

  • Reinstall Ilife on mac os x lion via mac Appstore instead from installation disk.

I did a clean install of lion now I (of course) need to install ilife again. I'd like to install it from the mac app store instead from the installation disk but that proves impossible. Is there a way to install ilife from the mac appstore instead from the installation disk?

It happen the same to me.  I had a lot of problem after i upgrade from snow leopard to Lion and decided to do a clean install.
Before that i did a time capsule back.
After the clean install i didnt had my ilife apps that i had presintalled when i bought my mac.
So i was wondering if they can do it in a service center or just simple download them from the app store.

  • HT4561 Install OS 6.8 without installation disk

I need to wipe my MAC Pro clean and do a fresh OS install before I put it up for sale. I don't have any OS installation disks. The current OS on the system is 10.6.8. How can I do this?
    Thanks guys!

You cannot do this without having the Mac OS X installer from which to boot. Unless you made a copy of the installation disks to another drive, you will need the installation disks. You really should provide them with the sale in any case. If your Mac shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.x, you can call Apple support and ask to purchase a new set of the install disks. If your Mac came with an earlier version of Mac OS X, you can order a retail copy of 10.6 from the Apple Store.

  • Can I restore from Time Machine without installer disk?

Laptop is mounted in FW target mode to Mac Mini, which in turn is connected to Time Capsule containing laptop's backups.  Is there a way to restore laptop's HD from TC without having a Mac OSX installer disk?

It won't be recognized, because of a different MAC address. So the easiest way to restore the Laptop is to boot it from installer disc and restore the Backup.

  • Can I repair my startup disk without installation disk?

Disk utility is showing me the following after I ran "verify disk":
The volume Mac HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
I don't have the installation disk.  Is there a way to repair the disk without the installation disk?  I'm running mac os X 10.6.4.
Also, I'm very new to mac OS so please keep any answers/help simple for me.  Thanks.

If you have a TM backup on an external drive, restart the computer and hold down the option key. You will get a selection of drives. The TM drive has a recovery drive also. I think it will be listed as Mac OSX. Select it and try booting from it. Your internal drive might be bad and not allowing you to start from that recovery drive.

  • Reinstalling Mac OS X without deleting my Windows partion?!

Is it possible to do a fresh install of Mac OS X with out me having to delete my Windows partion?
    iMac 24" 2.33 C2D 2GB RAM 500GB HDD nVidia 7600GT   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Reinstalling Mac OS X through any method will not delete the Windows partition or any data on it. It will only be erased if the Boot Camp Assistant is used to return the hard disk to a single partition setup, or if the Disk Utility is used to erase that partition or repartition the whole drive, or if Terminal commands are used to erase and repartition the drive.

  • How to reinstall os x tiger without recovery disk?

turned on mac mini a1103 this morning to find grey screen with flashing folder. I have no boot disk and I have no experience in recovery?
How do I get the mac mini back up and running?

I agree the profile information is confusing but the a1103 is a G4. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac_mini_g4_1.25.html
Do you have a bootable backup drive?  Without that or without a boot disc you are strongly disadvantaged.  There are ways you can attempt recovery but they are not simple.
If you don't have an installer disc available you can try effecting repairs using fsk in Single User Mode - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417

You are going to need the OSX installation discs that came with your MBP, install OSX Snow Leopard from the disc, then update it to 10.6.8 using software update. Then buy Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store and install it.
You may not use the copy on the iMac for this, it is a violation of the terms of the license.

  • Archlinux Won't Boot With Or Without Installation Disk

At first my laptop started to turn on and off by itself. So I reseatted the ram to see if that was the problem. After a while, it started to tell me to put a disk or some "media device" inside of the computer to get it to run. I mounted my partitions and checked /etc/fstab to find that it was absolutely empty as though I had never genfstab'd in the first place.
I gen-fstab'd like one usually would when installing arch after mounting all partitions and swapon. While mounted, I also update the system, re-installed base base-devel and then restarted. I left the disk in for good measure to see if it would load that up, as without it that I couldn't access my bios. Now, I see a message that says
    boot:
When I try to "Boot existing OS" off of the grub menu of the live CD. And hints or tips?
It also doesn't seem to be a hardware issue but a kernel one. Because when I type in "linux" in front of the colon it'll tell me that "linux" is not found. Also, if that were the case I doubt that I would be able to mount my partitions and find all of my files there still.

    it isn't load grub
enter on boot : u will seen some word like "no kernel install"
if that right u should reinstall grub2

may be it is a bug ,  cause use grub2 with mbr
hope to help , try it.

  • Can i transfer the OS from one mac to another without installation discs?

    Hi,
I have just bought a new mac (well, a second hand one but new to me!) but it doesnt have an OS pre installed. I currently have the Powerbook listed below installed with OS X 10.5.2 and I was wondering, is it possible to transfer the OS over to my new mac?
Unfortunately I have lost the installation bits, i.e CD, but I just wondered if any techy wizards out there knew of a different way?
It would be really useful and save me alot of money(!) but if the worst comes to the worst I will just buy the OS again!
    Thanks in advance!

Ok thanks thats cool...neither are intel based.
however, being fairly inexperienced with macs im not completely au fait with how the directory system works.
Using CCC I can copy files, but how do i copy a whole OS?! I mean where, for a start, will I find all the files associated with the OS that are necessary for it to run?
Secondly, once I have copied all necessary files to the target volume, how do I go about installing the OS? Or will it do it all automatically?
Sorry, I am probably asking really stupid questions but I guess thats what forums like this are for!
    Thanks
