Reinstalling Mail app on Leopard?

So like a dummy I uninstalled the Mail app from Leopard because I thought you had to have a .mac account to use it. After finding out that it can be used with hotmail I'd like to reinstall it which I'm guessing I can do from the install disc but I was wondering if anyone knew what the Mail app is listed as in the "optional" install list?
I see a bunch of "blah blah" pkg files but none that clearly say "hey this is the Mail app" file. I also didn't have an external hdd at the time so it's not on Time Machine. Any help would be appreciated.

Restoring Lost OS X Files
If you erase or otherwise "lose" an OS X system application or utility (such as Mail or Disk Utility, for example) you can restore them without having to reinstall OS X.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist. Read the documentation. Use Pacifist to extract a fresh copy of the missing application from the file archives on your OS X Installer disc. The file archives are usually found on the installer disc in the /System/Installations/ folder.
After restoring the application you need to reinstall the OS X Combo Updater for the version of OS X you currently have installed. This assures the new copy of the application is updated to the current version.
Lastly, it's a good idea to repair permissions.

  • Mail.app on leopard crashes when Cmd-T (Fonts) invoked

Aloha gang - I have a problem with Mail.app under Leopard 10.5.4 (ever since 10.5.1 actually) on my iMac DualCore 24" system. Whenever I try to press Cmd-T for Format-Fonts I get a spinning beachball for 5 to 10 sec and then the entire app disappears. Crash! Every time. But Shift-Cmd-C for Color Palette works just fine! and every other aspect of Mail.app as well.
I had installed LetterBox plugin update, back in Nov 2007 when it was made available, as a Bundle but I uninstalled it when I thought it might be causing the crash - but Mail.app still crashes whenever I use Cmd-T.
I would appreciate any hints or help you can think of to resolve/fix this issue.
    Mahalo!

'Nothing' usually means the connection to the server is ok, but no mail is ready to be retrieved or sent.
Confirm you can ping those servers and that mail is waiting to be pulled, etc. then trash & redo the connections again - restart your computer and see if it works.
If still now joy, try this - find the /Library/Preferences folder in your user/Home folder and then locate and delete this file:
    com.apple.mail.plist
*Caution* - doing this may clear your account settings so be sure to note those first in the event you are required to reconfigure, etc.

  • Does the new version of Mail.app for Leopard have this DELAY feature?

Can you delay sending an email until XXXX date and XXXX time, like you can in Eudora?
I know mail.app currently has some scripts that allow for this functionality, but I'd really like to see it built right into mail.app. Can the new version of mail.app for Leopard do this?
    Thanks.

    Not to my knowledge.

  • TS3579 How do I reinstall mail app on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Is there an update file that I can pull a recent version of the Mac Mail app from onto my machine?
I am on Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Situation:
I never use Mac Mail, but a recent client of mine was trying to configure it and so I thought I'd pull it up and help them setup an account on the phone.
The problem is,Mac Mail doesn't come up at all. I rarely use email right on my machine, what with Gmail and Thunderbird as my usual modalities with email. The thought of littering my machine with actual email files seems archaic.
    So I deleted Mail app.
I then ran Software Update to see if it would notice the app as missing and attempt to reinstall but that was just wishful thinking. App store doesn't seem to care about existing packages on the machine beyond whatever is purchased in App store so that was a waste of time also.
I don't want to have to go through a lot of shenanigans with update programs and DVDs ...
I remember seeing somewhere how someone simply pulled the app out a recent update and just dragged it onto their machine - if anyone knows which update for 10.6.x Snow Leopard would have this app in it thanks in advance.
    Thanks in advance

    FIXED - THE SOLUTION
    1. Locate your Apple Install DVD #1 - "Mac OSX Install DVD"
    2. Download & install Pacifist See http://www.charlessoft.com/
    3. Download the "Security Update 2012-004" file from here:http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586
    4. Delete all existing versions of Mail.app on system (See also https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4419244?start=0&tstart=0)
    5. Open Pacifist and choose Open Package
Browse to the Optional Installs folder on the DVD, and open Optional Installs package (mpkg)
Pacifist will take a few minutes to open the package and display its contents.
"Now would be a great time to fill out your registration card" or go get a cup of coffee or cocktail, yes you have time.
Once the package contents have been revealed, locate the Mail.app and attempt to drag it to your Applications folder.
When you do this, Pacifist will prompt you for permission to extract it to where you dragged it to.
    Click Extract
    Then enter your password:
And Pacifist will extract the Mail.app to your Applications folder:
Yes, my apps are all nicely organized - it is legal to organize and declutter the disorganized mess that is your Applications folder, which is how Apple installs it. The only problem is that because Apple thinks a disorganized mess of an Applications folder is just fine, their people don't take into account actually locating the Mail.app when they do the security update, and just assume you'll have it in the sheeple location of "Applications". That's what caused this problem to begin with.
Now, if you try to run this version of the app, on a system previously updated to 10.6.8, you will get an error:
    6. Right, so now you run the SecUpd2012 004, and reboot.
As a side note,  Security Update 2012-004 will s h i t  an unusable version of the Quicktime player into your Applications folder also.
See it there without the proper icon.
Since I had accidently deleted Quicktime 7 from my machine, not really missing it, but I was wondering what happened to it ... so using Pacifist I was also able to get a working version back onto my system the same way as Mail. So while Security Update 2012-004 s h i t s this unusable version into the Applications folder, it does nothing to update the Quicktime 7 app. Perhaps someone else can explain that. So I just deleted the unusable Quicktime Player app.
Now, Mail.app works fine even before reboot, as does Quicktime as is from the Optional Installs mpkg but you gotta reboot after the update but it should work already.

  • Can I reinstall Mail.app on Lion 10.7?

After trying to import my mail from Snow Leopard, my Mail.app in Lion 10.7 has become unresponsive – I can't open a Message Viewer Window, nor can I open preferences to make changes to my accounts.
I'd like to reinstall Mail, but can't find a way to do this. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
I had the same problem this morning. After ugrading to 10.7.4 Mail.app could not import the messages, and hence, never started.
The failure message stated "The import failed. An error occurred during the import. Make sure you have available space in your home folder and try again." There was no other option button but "Quit." So I quited, checked, and confirmed there were 414.19 GB available; and I used Finder and System Report for this purpose. Afterwards I tried again. The failure persisted.
Ironically I wan't able to neither read from Webmail, nor access Mail.app. So I confirmed with the Data Center the server's status. Everything was up and running. Still, they restarted the server for the sake of certainty. The problems persisted.
So I did as suggested here. And it worked smoothly.
Since I use IMAP on my settings I went for a fresh configuration with all my mail accounts. And it worked smoothly.
    Thanks William for the tip.
Thanks Shaun for marking the reply as the solution.

  • How do I reinstall mail.app on OS 10.6.8 without an install disk

Software update recently updated my software automatically to 10.6.8 on my MacBook 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo. Apparently because i organize my applications into folders inside the root Applications folder, the mail app was not updated properly. I put the mail.app back in the root application folder and downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8. After running the update I still have the same problem I get the notice "You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X. You have Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button." I don't have original install disk available to me. I don't know what I can do to get my Mail.app to work it is very important because it sorts out all the junk mail. Is there any way to reinstall mail without the original system disk?
Please Allen Eckhart, don't want your help. Can someone else help me?

Seems Apple is making things more difficult with every OS update. Back in the day you used to be able to organize your applications instead of having them all in one folder. You used to have a lot more freedom. More and more it is just easier to use a third party app. So I'm gonna install Thunderbird until Apple comes up with an easy way to fix the mail app. it seems that eveything in help says you just gotta reinstall the system from scratch. I would rather just use an open source product that I can put into any forlder I want without having to worry about it screwing itself up. Had similar experience with Safari now it seems like it is time to get rid of Mail.

  • I want to reinstall mail.app from the disk but the version is old on the disk, i'm using 10.6.8

    Hi,
I deleted the mail.app in the bid to save space but i want to re-install. I have inserted the install disk and tried to do it that way but the version is too old.
in the box i was told to install the combo update which one do i install and will it work. Is there something else i can do

If you've already restored the older version of Mail, then run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 update.
Note that the version of Mail you restored should be from a Snow Leopard Installer Disc.

  • How to reinstall Mail app in Mavericks 10.9.3

During update process to OS X 10.9.2, my MAIL APP became corrupted and I can't repair it since. The update to 10.9.3 didn't help any. My Applecare expired already.
Is there a documented method to remove all the corrupted files, databases, etc. & start all over? I have all my mail messages in another client so I won't lose anything.
Would rather use the Mail App.

Erase the drive and reinstall is the only "documented" way. Unless you wish to just reinstall Mail by itself. In this case download and use Pacifist. To do the former:
Install or Reinstall Lion, Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Mail.app on Leopard & Tiger glitch with "leave mail on server" setting.

A coworker has configured her two Macs (one at work, running 10.4.11; and one at home, running 10.5.8) to download email from a single POP account on our company server, using Mail.app on each system.
She did this by using the "Remove copy from server after retrieving message:" setting checked on, and with "after one month" selected from the associated pop-up menu.
This worked fine for her for a few weeks, but recently both computers seem to have lost track of which messages they've previously downloaded. As a result, whenever she checks mail, both versions of Mail.app want to download the roughly several thousand emails stored in her inbox.
Is there some known glitch in Mail that explains this? Or is there some interaction between the two Mail apps that might be creating confusion? Or is that setting just not intended to work the way we're expecting?
I personally use that same approach to manage mail between a couple of devices and mail clients (including a copy of Mail.app), and have done for years without anything like this behavior, so I'm baffled.
    Thanks for any advice!

  • HT4759 How to use mail.app in Leopard to access iCloud mail account

Mail.app stopped downloading new mail from my MobileMe account. I had transferred it all to iCloud as instructed, but since I had seen no instructions on changing anything in Mail.app (I'm running Leopard), I thought things should still just work.
I got the new IMAP server name (imap.mail.me.com) from this site, and pasted it into the account information for the MobileMe account in Mail.app, and saved it. The account still could not connect. I checked the settings and found that Mail.app had changed the server back to mail.mac.com. It has done this several times as I've tried to change the server.
Now what? I'm about ready to look for an XML file to edit.
    Thanks!

Delete the MobileMe account in Mail and follow these setup instructions:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
These include the server settings linked to above but you may find the illustrations helpful: and you should start by deleting the old account, not trying to amend it. This won't affect the emails on the server.

  • Reinstalling Mail.app?

A while ago when I first got my Mac, I ran a lot of the programs I thought were unnecessary through AppDelete. Now with Gmail adding IMAP support, I want Mail.app back. The installer disc doesn't seem to list it as a program to reinstall. What should I do, aside from a clean format?

    Yeah, try Pacifist:

  • Reinstalling mail.app: any tips?

    hi,
mail.app is behaving weirdly lately: deleted messages do not go to Trash sometimes, and if 2 messages arrive 'simultaneously', the header of 1 email sometimes is a duplicate of the other (so one header is accurate, the other is not).
I thought I'd give reinstalling a chance. I don't have these problems in Thunderbird or webmail, so it must be mail.app (right?)
What do I need to know before proceeding? Here are my specifics:
    - 2 imap accounts, save sent/deleted/drafts on server, keep copies of all messages + attachments, sync everything via MobileMe(ss).
    Thanks for any input!

oh yeh, sorry, forgot to mention:
    already did:
    1. safe boot (hold shift while start-up)
    2. check drive for errors by putting in installation CD and running disk utility (repair disk) from that CD.
    3. repair permissions with disk utility
Is that what you mean as well?
    thanks

  • Apple Mail.app in Leopard removes HTML formatting

    Hi,
This is not something I see universally, but in many of my mails (Exchange account, company ID, hence, can't post screenshots), sometimes, Mail.app strips the html formatting! Sometimes, something as simple as a table is missing. All I see is the text that would have been inside it. The background colours, etc in certain mails also sometimes go missing.
Only when someone replies to the same mail and has the original mail included, do I see the formatting!
Also, when I open my mailbox in Thunderbird or a browser, I can see the formatting correctly in the same mail!
    Am I missing something here?
    Thanks,
    Anup

    Mail > Preferences > Composing.
You have the option there to send and receive in plain text which will remove all formatting, maybe selected...Change to what you wish to happen
