Reinstalling on MacBook Air

This machine does not have a DVD drive. How do I move illustrator on disk over to it from my old machine? I cannot reinstall from the disks.

You can download the software from the Adobe.com as trial for CS6 and then install the software.
For older version, you can check this http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369.

  • New to Macbook Air - Usb reinstall software

    Hi,
Just ordered my second hand Macbook Air - and I would like to reinstall the OS onto it - I have found a couple of places on line that sell the usb reinstall disk
Macbook Air USB Drive OS X 10.6 - Original Re-Install Disk
WOuld this be the correct disk to go for?
If it is a second hand reinstal disk - they arent limited to 1 use are they, or 1 computer?  I believe the disk is brand new and unused but would appreciate some help.
Also - never used a mac book before... looking forward to it.  Will it take long to do a fresh install?
    Many thanks
    Leigh

Actually - Apple are awesome! Put a service call in - warned of a small charge.
Logged for a call back... phone rang immediately and spoke to an advisor who recomended I download recent OS X update - I did this and this allowed me to create a partition and allow me format all the previous users data/files and set it up as a brand new computer.
    Awesome!
Superb customer service and support - despite it being 3 years old.

depening on what OS you're running you should be able to reinstall it without charge since it's part of the operating system. if running 10.6.8 or earlier you will need to use the applications install disc if there is one or if you only have one disc you can put it in and do a reinstall of the OS which will put the iphoto back on. if running 10.7 or 10.8 can sign into the app store w/ the same apple id that is associated w/ the mac and it should show in your purchases for you to reinstall it. you may need to click on the accept button if it appears next to the iphoto in your purchase listing.

  • I have replaced my faulty hard drive on my macbook air 1.1 and need to reinstall the original software where can in find this on the apple web site?

I have replaced my faulty hard drive on my macbook air 1.1 with a new ssd, I need to reinstall the original software, where can I find this on the apple site?

There is no download for the software.  The factory software that you are looking for is called ilife.  It is all of the software that would have came preinstalled with your mac on your original hard drive when you first bought it.  You will have to get new software on your computer.  This might actually be a great opurtunity to upgrade to Lions.  Search the Lions software in the mac store and it will come up.  Click add to cart and check out.  The price for it is $20.  I defientely recomend Lions, it has alot of new great features.  Then wate for the install disk to come in the mail.  when it come just pop it in and follow the step by step instructions.  If you dont want to upgrade to lions however you can download the ilife package from apple.com for a small price.  Hope this helps.

  • Problem reinstalling Mountain Lion MAcbook Air

I have a mid 2012 11 in Macbook air running Mountain Lion.  I had had no problems until yesterday when Chrom would not start.  Upon trying to restart the conmputer the process would not go beyond the grey screen with the spnning wheel.  I let this sit for 15 minutes or so, the tried rebooting 3 or 4 times, each time with the same result.  I then tried booting with command+r in order to try a cleaninstall of mountain lion.  this gave me an error when verifying the computer´s eligibility with Apple "could not find installation information for this machine.  contact apple care"
I then ran Disk Utility and Verify Disk showed no errors, but the repair disk permissions came back with several issues such as the following:
permissions differ on "system/library/frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/CoreGraphics": should be lrwxrwxrwx : they are lrwxr-xr-x .
unable to ser owner and group on "system/library/frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/CoreGraphics":  error 22: invalid argument
I then created a USB reinstall disk following instructions from Apple, started the computer using the option key to choose this disk as the start-up disk and got exactly the same results.
Finally, I tried to erase the HD and got a message saying "volume erase failed with the rror: couldn´t unmount disk.
    Any ideas?

BTW, This only happens with the Time Capsule, I can connect to my iPhone in Hotspot and other WiFi Networks just fine.  And all of my other device connect to the Time Machine just fine as well.  It's just between the Air and the Time Machine.

Do you have access to another Mac with a disk drive?  If so you can do it in one of two ways:
1 - on the Mac with the optical drive launch Disk Utility and make a disk image of the iLife 11 disk. Connect the two Macs together and transfer the disk image to your MacBook Air.  Mount the disk image and install from it.  I have my iLife disks saved that way for quick and easy reinstall when necessary.
2 - connect the two Mac together so you can access the MBA from the Mac with the disk drive. Insert the iLife disk, and install from the second Mac to the MBA.

  • Reinstalling CC apps on a reformatted MacBook Air '13 SSD

I have a subscription to CC for my MacBook Air 2013.  It has worked perfectly until this morning when I was forced to have a technician at the local Apple Store reformat my solid state drive.  After the hard drive was wiped and reformatted, I have attempted to reinstall all of my files, including my Adobe CC applications from my “Time Machine” backup.  But,  the Adobe CC programs do not work.  I have wiped all of the Adobe CC programs from the hard drive; installed and used the Creative Cloud Cleaner application; and installed the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application.  I logged into the Adobe website using the desktop application so I can re-download and install my favorite apps – most importantly Acrobat Pro.
When I launch the desktop application it indicates that the Adobe Acrobat Pro program is already installed and up-to-date.  But, that program is not on my hard drive.
I also note that the icons for all of my previously-installed Adobe CC programs – including Photoshop and Premier Pro – are still appearing on my “Launchpad” screen on the Mac
I need assistance re-downloading and installing Acrobat Pro and my other CC apps – including Photoshop and Premier Pro.

  • How do I reinstall ML in English on a Macbook Air that was originally in Chinese?

This is a copy of my question that got posted in the wrong thread..
I'm trying to help a friend who was given a used 13" MacBook Air (A1369) by the Chinese exchange student staying with him. It needed a screen repair, which was done, and we were able to change the display menus to English which is fine for general use. BUT... The previous owner had all kinds of Chinese games and programs as well as a partitioned HD. The plan was to just erase and reinstall Mountain Lion (which it came with, we THINK) and he'd have a fresh start.
Using the Recovery system would be great, except that since the comp was from China, and the ID associated with it is in Chinese, all of the instructions, menus and EVERYTHING are in Chinese. We can get online fine, and tried booting from a USB drive but everything is still in Chinese. We got as far as making a bootable USB and it looked like everything was OK, and started the erase/restore process but it got stuck in Chinese instructions and menus!!!
Is there a way to buy new copy of Mountain Lion with a new Apple ID that will be in English and then install it on a computer that was already running Mountain Lion? It seems I should be able to DL the OS to a USB drive and then just boot and install from that. But I'd have to DL on another Mac with its own ID running Lion. (Or use a Linux PC which seems like an even worse option.)
    Any ideas? Suggestions? Laughter?
    Thanks!

You've got me. You may well need to repartition the drive.
One thing I did remark in your post is that you purchased and downloaded Mountain Lion using your friend's Apple ID. That is a mistake. You must use your own Apple ID. The license is tied to the Apple ID. The copy you now have you cannot use under your Apple ID. You can install it with your friend's Apple ID and continue to use it, but you will not be able to update it nor do anything else with it that requires an Apple ID. You need to purchase and download Mountain Lion using your Apple ID, not your friend's.
When you run the installer for the first time it typically requests you choose a language. Be sure you select English. Don't click through assuming English will be the default.
Beyond this I don't know enough to make a further suggestion. Perhaps it's something embedded in the firmware of products going to the Chinese market.

you can download the mac os x recovery hd and run the setup to a flash drive using another mac computer running os x 10.7,(so that while installation the os x setup can varify your computer's serial no. and provide you the installation setup through internet)
or the time machine backup(if you have)
Now boot through the flash drive and follow the steps to install mac os x

    All,
A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.
So happy to be done w/this one!
Thx everyone. Any additional input on what solved it is welcome, so my curiosity is quelled...

  • HT4399 I purchased my Macbook Air second hand, didn't get a software reinstall drive. Where can I purchase one?

How do I tell which version Macbook Air I own??? Can't tell the date manufactured anywhere..../?????

The last MacBook Air to contain a physical reinstallation disk/drive was the 2010 model, which came with a USB flash drive. Subsequent models utilize the built-in Recovery Partition, along with Internet Recovery to enable the user to reinstall the original OS.
If yours is a 2010 model, then you should go through Technical Support to order a replacement drive. It is treated much the same way as if you were ordering a replacement part for your unit.
If you consult an application called MacTracker, you can compare your model as shown in "About this Mac" in the Apple menu, the database in Mactracker to obtain your model# and generation type.
