Reinstalling on new computer from upgrades

Am using Photoshop 6.0. Had to retire an old computer, but want to continue to use the Photoshop 6.0 software on my new laptop with Windows Vista Home.
Have the Photoshop 6.0 Upgrade CD for Windows, have the Serial Number from the previous version (had registered it, and it was stored on the Adobe website), have my Customer ID#.
When I put the CD into the laptop, it asks for the previous media (CD) which I do not have. Unable to get past this point of the installation.
How can I install the software to my new laptop?

Find the old disks and/or an image of them. ;-) I'm not sure what the installer checks, but it is reasonable to assume it only looks for the correct packages on the disk, not a specific media key associated with the optical media (at least it's always worked for our old installs on Macs). If you are "legit", it should also be possible for support to provide you with the files/ image of whatever version you needed before. Not sure if there is any point to using such old software on Vista, though. For After Effects (my original domain) this is not advised...

Ok; I'm not sure what you're doing.    36 hours is rather long.  Seems like a new migration.  Not what I intended.
Here's what I intended: from the newly-migrated and apparently-corrupt environment, create a new user, not related to any existing user, nor any migration-created user, or any other user for that matter.  That is, use  > System Preferences > Users and Groups, authenticate yourself by clicking on the padlock, and then click the + and create a wholly new user.  Then log in under that user and establish the mail access.
36 hours?  I'm wondering if there's an error or an exceedingly slow network here?  Or a really, really slow disk?  Or a sick backup?  (WiFi isn't the path I'd usually choose, either.)
Failing the attempted second migration, I'd try a different tactic.  Does your existing (old) system work?   If so, I'd bypass the backup and connect an external (scratch) USB disk drive to the (old) sstem and then boot and use Disk Utility booted from the installer DVD disk or boot and use Disk Utility from the recovery partition or booted from a recovery partition created on some other external storage (details here vary by the OS X version and what hardware you have), and perform a full-disk backup of your original internal disk to (scratch) external storage.  (Make sure you get the source and target disks chosen correctly here; copying the wrong way — from the scratch disk to your existing disk — will clobber your data!)  In esssence, this will clone your existing boot disk.  Then dismount the (formerly-scratch) external disk, transfer it over to the new system, and use it as the source of the migration, by performing a fresh OS X installation on the new system.
Target Disk Mode is also sometimes an option for accessing the disk for a migration, but that requires the right cable, and requires systems that have the same external connection; newer MacBook Pro systems use Thunderbolt for this, and older systems tend to use FireWire.  And I'm guessing you don't have compatible hardware.
The details here can and do vary by your OS X versions and your particular Mac systems — if you'll identify the specific models and hardware, somebody might be able to better tailor the above (fairly generic) sequence to your particular configuration.

  • Deactivating and reinstalling to new computer

I've deactivated from old laptop and want to reinstall on new computer.  After logging into Adobe, my purchase of Photoshop from 6 months ago is not showing up under "Orders" but does show up under "Products"      I have the serial number (and it is displayed in my Products) but not seeing how I re-download the program to new machine?  Do I need to download the Trial version, enter the serial number?
    thank you

    Yes, that works.
Which exact version of Photoshop? Standalone or part of a Creative Suite?

  • How do I transfer my itunes library to a new computer from my iPhone. The old one no longer works.

How do I transfer my itunes library to a new computer from my iPhone. The old computer no longer works.

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

Unfortunately, unless you have a backup and can restore the iTunes library to the new computer, you are stuck with the current state of the iPod. This is one of those things that makes doing backups so important.
Unless your music is all purchased from iTunes (not from your own CD's that you imported into iTunes and then downloaded to the iPod), you will be able to re-download all your iTunes store music back to the iPod when you install iTunes on the new computer. When you first attach the iPod to the new computer and new iTunes the first time it will tell you that this iPod is synced with another iTunes library and let you initialize the iPod (which will erase everything on the iPod - so don't do this unless you don't care about the stuff on the iPod now).
I've seen 3rd party apps in the past that will let you copy music/content from iPod to computer and bypass iTunes, but not sure if they still exist as this was several years ago.
    good luck

okay from reading posts it seems if I transfer my backed up info from my old comp to the new one and erase my dad's phone's back up i could reset my phone and it would transfer all my old data back onto the phone, be linked to the new computer and i could proceed.  Where do i find the backed up info from my phone?

  • New computer or upgrade old one

My computer is 5 years old and starting to slow down. It is a Gateway 420GR Intel Pentium 4 Processor 515 with 160 GB and 512 MB.
Am I better off buying a new computer or upgrading the one that I have?
If it is better to buy a new one, any recommendations?
I would like one that is a 1 TB.

Between upgrading and purchasing new - purchase new.
However, the question is how you define "slow down" - is it "too slow for new things you have tried to do with it" or "slower than it used to be for the same workload".  If the latter, you may only need to do some basic software housecleaning work (defrag the hard drive, run malwarebytes and an antivirus to check for malware, etc.)
As to what is best for your needs - it depends on if you have any specific requirements (like gaming) - for basic needs (pretty much anything your current system does), any new system on the market will run circles around it.  As to brand, I'm personally partial to Asus these days.

You do not.. the iPhone is not a backup device.
Copy the entire iTunes directory from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • Using install CD from new computer to upgrade old one.

can I use my instal CD that came with my new iMac to upgrade my old eMac to tiger?

    Delboy-
Lemme try and break this down to simpler terms.
If you have a boxed version of an OS that you are not running upgraded on your machine than you may sell it.
This happens to me, um, way too much. I will purchase a boxed version of an OS when it comes out (say Panther for example) and install it on my current Mac. Then my addiction takes over and I must purchase the latest and greatest iMac or something to replace that existing unit, and the new system comes with the latest and greatest (Tiger for example) installed.
I will then erase and reinstall the original system that came with the machine that I am retiring and sell it like that.
Because I took it off of the machine that I am selling, the "boxed" version that I purchased for that system is now eligible to be either sold or installed on one other machine.
I do not need the boxed version that I bought, because I have the original install disks with the new system that I am replacing that "retired" system with.
And thus the cycle, and, um, addiction continues.

  • Installing Existing Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on new computer - The "Upgrade Check"

I recently purchased a new computer (Windows 8) to replace my old computer (Windows XP).  I had purchased and installed Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 on the old computer in September 2009.  At that time I had the serial number of the previous edition of Adobe Acrobat to load into the Upgrade Check screen when installing Acrobat 9.  I just deactivated the Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 from the Windows XP machine and downloaded it to the Windows 8 machine and the install went well (still had the serial numbers for the Acrobat 9), until after the reboot when the "Upgrade Check" screen popped up.  I don't have the slightest clue what the serial number for the previous version of Acrobat was, I don't even recall what version of Acrobat I had.  How can I continue to install my Acrobat Pro 9?  I have been using it successfully for three plus years!
    Thanks.

If you no longer have the AA7 information, you will have to contact Adobe to determine the software key you had before to allow the installation. Hopefully you had registered your previous product or at least the installation.

  • Reinstalling on new computer

I have a new computer and want to reinstall Photoshop on the new computer.  Is there a certain procedure I need to follow; or, do I just use the installation disc that I used on my original computer?

I don't really understand ... you wouldn't re-install on a new computer ... you would install, not re-install ... so I'm not sure what your concern really is.
Nevertheless, any installation or re-installation can be done from the installation disk.

  • Help with installing the original Photoshop on a new computer from the disc

I have a new computer. I want to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 1.0.1. I have the disc and serial number (1057-45428-2285-0248-2785-2727) but when I start installing, I get an error - Internet Explorer 4.0 required. I don't have that program and I want to use Mozilla or Chrome as my internet server. How do I avoid this problem? I am happy with what the original program does and don't want an upgrade. Please reply to [email protected]

wow that's an old program windows98 days
so it will be oober slow, GIMP and a few others are free compared to that one
that said, there are a few things you can try with old software. not sure about yours but goes in general for older stuff
run it in compatability mode.. This is where you right click on the exe file go to properties and choose the older os to so it can pretend to be it
another option, as I am not familiar with that older version, it is a little weird why it want ie, maybe it used it to log onto the net, to say hi, not even sure they did it back then, or maybe it used the browser as a webpage to show help, depending on where that code is, perhaps you are running it from the beginning setup of the cd. If you went into the disc itself into the program only part and bypass it. again just a guess
and the last suggestion, install VMware. this will allow you to install windows98 as a virtual os then you may be able to install it into that.
after saying all this bear in mind all the hardware you have now, that software has no idea even existed.
