Reinstalling Oracle 10g

Incidently, I had forgotten my oracle userid & password for my oracle. I had installed on to my laptop for my personal learning purpose. I uninstalled it and now when I planned on to reinstall oracle again, the install engine is crashing and I am not able to install. Any ideas what would solve this?
I had uninstalled oracle using the inbuild oracle universal installer itself. Now the same universal installer is not working after the uninstall. I had installed the default enterprise version. I had both Oracle database 10.2.0.2 and oracle developer suite 10.2.0.1 installed. both are uninstalled and I am not able to install either of them. Any help will be appreciated. Thank You.

You are Welcome
>Clean all environments variables related to ORACLE in your system
Double Click on System in the control panel
Select the Environment tab
Delete the ORACLE_HOME variable
Delete ORACLE_SID variable
Clean up the PATH variable (Remove all the paths that point to the ORACLE loadpoint)
2>Clean all entries related to ORACLE from the registry.
After uninstalling the application, leftover entries need to be manually deleted from the registry
Execute regedit and clean up the registry from all Oracle leftover keys. The best way to delete those values is by deleting the whole parent key:
Click Start
Click Run
Type "regedit" in the text box and hit Enter
In the Registry Editor window double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE and :
clean up the registry from all Oracle leftover keys
Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Service :
clean up the registry from all Oracle services leftover keys

I had some problems on my previous Oracle XE installation, so I decided to remove it. After reinstalling it on Windows XP, nothing worked anymore. When I try to Go To Database Home Page, it doesnt load. Even the Run SQL Command Line doesnt start anymore.
All Oracle services are running on my computer (OracleMTSRecoveryService, OracleServiceXE and OracleXEClrAgent), except OracleJobSchedulerXE and OracleXETNSListener because I tried to start them but it didnt work.
I reinstalled Oracle XE several times without any success.
Please help me, I dont know what to do.

  • Reinstall Oracle 10g R2

A co-worker deleted my OC4J directory under oracle and I wondered if I could replace it somehow? I noticed at this point that the installer doesn't seem to know what I have already installed and freezes when I attempt to view. Someone indicated that renaming the 'install' directory might accomplish this and get the installer to run anew.
Any ideas if this is a valid method or do others exist.
I appreciate anyone's help and assistance.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

The applications configured by this container are:
    - Enterprise Manager
    - Isqlplus
    - isqlplus help
    - Ultrasearch admin
    - ultrasearch query
Most of the files this container has are jar library files and configuration files (produced at deployment time during installation of the application against the oc4j) these paths are relative and based on environmental variables, so there is not much problem in applying the above procedure, however you should consider if you had ever configured the isqlplusDBA password, you'll have to repeat the procedure, if you had ever configured enterprise manager to work in SSL mode, this is also affected by this.
Next time, I suggest you to include in your backup strategy a periodic ORACLE_HOME backup, not as frequent as data, so you can have a backup of your installation.

  • Repeated ORA-12547 Messages after installing Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 10g on a Redhat ES 3 box, and the install went okay, but when I try and interact with the server I get the message:
    ORA-12547: TNS: lost contact
For example, if I use the Database Configuration Assistant to attempt to create a database, I will see the above message when it begins the database creation process, or if I try to interact with the Oracle server using sqlplus I will see the above message after each command entered.
I had recently tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 on the same box, but abandoned that after deciding that the effort required to link Oracle 8 on RHES3 just wasn't worth it. I have been told that this previous partial installation may be the cause of the problem, and have been advised to uninstall Oracle 8, uninstall Oracle 10g, and reinstall Oracle 10g. I find it hard to believe that it would require such an action to solve this problem. Is there any configuration changes I can make to resolve it? Also, what does this message actually mean?
I am new to Oracle, so thanks for any help with this problem.

  • Oracle 10g install  dbca always in Chinese and not English language

I installed/re-installed Oracle 10g several times including removing registry entries, C:\Oracle directory, C:\Program Files\Oracle and empty c:\temp folders,
set my windows xp languages to English (Can) and u.s. only
The dbca always comes up in Chinese language and not in English no matter what I did. Is there a simple way to reset dbca to english without reinstalling Oracle 10g even though I really want to know why and how it picks up Chinese language as default ?

I searched for "chinese" in oracle folder and found it in my install log where based on registry settings, it took my default language as Chinese.
I searched google, nothing until I came across how to set languages in xp.
To solve this annoying problem on xp:
    Go to settings/control Panel/Regional and Language options/
under language tab, make sure both Thai and East Asian languages boxes are unchecked
under advanced tab, select language version non-unicode programs, pick English (Canada) drop down, I had Hong Kong SAR before. Clicked apply and come back in again to ensure no code page version tables for Asian languages are checked on this Advanced tab. Restart computer and that's it !

  • My Oracle 10g XE does not start anymore on Win XP

    Hello,
I have a problem I do not understand at all. I've successfully installed Oracle10g XE on my Win XP SP2 about one year ago and every works well.
The last time (6 months ago) I've started my default XE, it works well.
Today, it does not works anymore ! My Windows service called "OracleServiceXE" does not start anymore. I have an error 1053.
So I try to start manually my DB using sqlplus :
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / AS SYSDBA=> I obtains ORA-12560
The listener service starts well and seems to be OK.
I tried to set ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID without success.
I checked my sqlnet.ora, tnsname.ora. Everything seems to be OK.
I stopped my antivirus software, stopped my firewall.
I checked I am still in the Adminstrator Group.
Finally, I tried to reinstall Oracle 10g XE and it does not work anymore either ! The XE instance creation failed
    DIM-00019: service creation error
    O/S-Error: (OS 1053)
    Now, I am lost.
Does anybody have any suggestion to solve my problem ?
Many thanks by advance for any help you could give.
    Regards
    Cedric

    Yes, I think so.
But what ? Many things change in 6 months (Windows fixes, software fixes, RAM upgrade, screen change ...)
And the logs I found in oracle cannot help me to have an idea.
    Only listener.log, css.log and sqlnet.log have changed.
I have found the following error in sqlnet.log :
Fatal NI connect error 12560, connecting to:

  • Trying to "Reconnect " to database after reinstalling oracle.

I was forced to reformat my hard drive for an Win XP OS recently which meant I had to reinstall Oracle 10G from scratch. I backed up all my database files as well as my init.ora files and saved the tnsnames and listener info. I've recreated my listener and service names. I did not create to initial database when I reinstalled oracle I just loaded 10g and wanted to re-connect with all of my pre-exisitng databases. So the only service in the services window for Oracle is the Listener service that I created. At this point I can do a TNSPING on my service, however I'm having trouble connecting to my database. SQLplus works but when I use the service to connect to my database i get a ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. I've tried to use configuration assistant but with no luck.
Basically what did I miss? How can I let 10g know that there are database files with control files in a directory and an init.ora file with which to connect to? Do I have to create all the services in XP myself? What must I still do?
    Thanks in advance.

I checked my listener and it's the same configuration as the one I have backed up except the key is of by one digit. It's as follows:
    OLD listener.ora file:

  • Hello everyone!! I'm having a big problem trying to reinstall oracle xe 10g

I'm having a big problem with Oracle XE 10g, and I have no more ideas about what should i do
Some weeks ago I installed this database on my PC, and everything was working fine. I could access to the DB, with the web interface or command line.
But I uninstalled all the system 'cause suddenly I started having problems with the SQL command line, and now, after reinstalling the system several times, I can't acces to the database (web or command line).
When I try to acces manually by command line, this happends:

yes it is possible to reinstall Oracle.
I suggest that a different ORACLE_HOME directory be used.

  • Reinstallation of oracle 10g on Fedora Core 2

    Dear Oracle community,
I tried to install Oracle database 10g software (Enterprise-edition) on
my PC (Fedora Core 2) in two steps. At first the software only
    (as described in
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gInstallationOnFedora2.php)
and then (using dcba) the example data base "sales".
The first step was succesfully. The second step has led to a "freeze" of
my computer. Input became impossible - so after running about 30 minutes
(100% CPU usage) I stopped my computer switching the power off.
Now I deleted the whole installation of Oracle manually as far as
possible (as far as I know/found the changes). Afterwards I tried to
reinstall the software. This was now impossible - the same "freezing"
effect happened now already in the first step. What are the reasons
for that? Can you help me to solve the problem?
I fear that some configuration files might be now corrupted and I have to
reinstall Fedora2 to be sure that nothing else is damaged.
Up to now I was only a user of a Oracle data base - it is the first time
that I try to install Oracle.
I have read the forum stuff about installation of 10g on Fedora Core 2
but do not find remarks for my problem.
Here are further details which could be important:
My PC has 2 processors and 2GB RAM and 2GB swap space.
The PC is located in a small Intranet and gets its IP-address by DHCP.
LINUX is installed (Fedora 2, kernel 2.6.5-1.358smp), as well as
    a Web-server (httpd-2.0.51-2.7.rpm),
    Java (j2sdk-1.4.2_05-fcs.rpm) and
    tomcat (jakarta-tomcat-4.1.30-LE-jdk14.tar.gz)
(perhaps there is some disturbing interaction between installed
Java-version and the Java-Version supplied by the Oracle software?)
I followed the instructions in the installation description given in the
above mentioned web site but with some minor changes:
    - /etc/hosts:
    127.0.0.1 obox local_host.local_domain
    192.168.2.3 oracle.home obox
    - instead to create a directory in which the Oracle software will be
    installed:
    mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1
    chown -R oracle.oinstall /u01
    I created the following:
    mkdir -p /opt/oracle/10.10
    chown -R oracle.oinstall /opt/oracle
    - The .bash_profile of the oracle user I modified a little bit:
    # Oracle Settings
    TMP=/oracle/tmp
    ORACLE_BASE=/oracle/oradata #
    ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/10.1.0
    ORACLE_SID=Test1
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
    # after installation I've seen that I forgot a colon between /lib and
    # /usr/lib in LD_LIBRARY_PATH - perhaps this is a reason for hanging
    # of the computer installing the example database "sales"?
    CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/JRE:$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib
    # after software installation I did not found $ORACLE_HOME/JRE but
    # $ORACLE_HOME/jre - and I changed the CLASSPATH
    - the following part I transfered to /etc/profile
    if [ $USER = "oracle" ]; then
    if [ $SHELL = "/bin/ksh" ]; then
    ulimit -p 16384
    ulimit -n 65536
    else
    ulimit -u 16384 -n 65536
    fi
    fi
    - In a first step I installed only the Oracle Software without any
problems (but with the error in the definition of LD_LIBRARY_PATH and
    CLASSPATH respectively)
    - I performed the post installation steps except that I did not change
the content of /etc/oratab because I did not want to start Oracle
    automatically starting the computer
    - Then I started the dbca to create the data base "sales". I could enter
all wanted parameters (I named the data base "test1" to be conform
with ORACLE_SID . Then dcba started the creation of the data base
    but did not end (hanging)
    - I looked for possible errors, corrected the definition of CLASSPATH
and LD_LIBRARY_PATH respectively and wanted to reinstall Oracle
    - I applied the following commands to delete all (???) data files
    created in the installation process
    rm /etc/oratab
    rm /etc/oraInst.loc

    - now (after restart of the PC) I wanted to install the Oracle software
anew. After specifying ORACLE_HOME and running a script as root the
OUI started to load and unzip files from the installation directory
Disk1 and runs in an endless loop (about 66% of the work was done).
    - After restart of my PC I made a second trial and already after the
input of the first parameter the OUI runs in an endless loop
    - the endless loop: 2 java instances were running using 100% CPU
and input by keyboard was not accepted.
    Many thanks in advance

  • Error while installing Oracle 10g on Solaris 9 x86

    Hi all,
I got several error after install oracle 10g. After I run the root.sh. It prompt :
Starting Oracle CSS service under init(1M)
Expecting the CRS daemons to be up within 120 seconds.
Giving up: Oracle CSS stack appears NOT to be running.
and when I start sqlplus, it prompt:
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Intel SVR4 UNIX Error: 2: No such file or directory
and following the error message prompt every minutes.
"oracle: (Oracle CSSD will be run out of init)"
"root: Failure in CSS initialization opening OCR."
I don't think reinstall oracle will solve my problem if I don't figure out what going wrong. Could anyone tell me what I need to do? Thanks very much for helping.
    Cheers,
    Alex

Check also if the t-bit is set:
    [root@vtl1g121 ~]# ls -dl /tmp
    drwxrwxrwt 11 root root 4096 Apr 10 11:44 /tmp
This is needed to mark the filesystem/directory as temporary.
Sometimes this can cause such problems also
    Command: chmod +t   /tmp

  • How can I enable Enterprise Manager in Oracle 10g?

    Hi,
We recently installed Oracle 10g on a MS Window server and after the installation which we created 2 instances each with a default schema from an existing data file (.dmp). After the installation, I realized that somehow, the DBConsole entry is missing in the Windows Services which then prevent me from being able to launch the new browser-based EM.
We thought we have picked all the components during the installation but for some reasons, it seems like the necessary files or configurations for EM was not there. So I was wondering if anyone know how I can manually install and configure EM?
Initially I thought if I go thru Oracle Universal installer and re-install everything again, it might help but I am concern that it will then wipe out the 2 instances and schemas that we have already created, especially since I have also applied the 10.2.0.3 patch already. So there was some discussions on calling the emctl program which when I tried, it I got error saying that ORACLE_SID not found. Then there was also some documentation on using the EMCA command to build the dbconsole, is that what I should do?
Lastly, I was under the impression that one will only setup one EM per server, which means in a perfect world, I will have one instance of the EM which will then allow me to manage the multiple instances (and their schemas) from the same console, is that correct? Or is one EM instance only manages one instance of the database? So if I have TESTDV & TESTUT configured on the same server, I will need to also create two EM consoles?
I am an amature and am more familiar with Oracle 9i which the EM seemed to be easier to use and setup. So I think I must have skipped or missed some steps during my 10g installation but am concerned that if I reinstall, I will lose everything.
    Thank you very much.

First of all, thank you as always for taking the time...
I apologize in advance if I am not using the right terminology. Basically, I have only one Oracle Home directory on that server but I am able to create two different instances and in both cases, I have left the port number to be the same thinking that it's only one physical installation. I thought I would attach my TNSNAME and LISTNER ora files below to give you a better picture of my current setup.
So for me to connect to the database and the appropriate instance for example, like using SQL Developer, all I have to do is specify the Host Name to DBServer and then the Service Name to either TESTDV or TESTUT. Then I can connect to each of the instance directly.
But I only have one Oracle_Home directory and use the same port number as the default choice. So to your comment, if I only have one Oracle_HOME and one Port number, should I only install one EM instance?
    Thanks much.
