Reinstalling vista recovery after erasing Hdd with DBan

Pavilion dv6707us notebook, Vista Home Premium 32bit
I erased the whole hardrive including the Recovery partition D with DBan.  Unfortunately the recovery discs i made will not restore Vista.  They work up to "Restoring factory settings".  Is there anyway to get this to work without the recovery partition D?  If I order the recovery discs from hp will they give me a full recovery or will I have the same problem without partition D?
Thank you
This question was solved.
View Solution.

recovery media ordered from HP has nothing to do with D partition. recovery media has complete OS, Driver and applications. this HP media deletes all the partitions and  restore the machine to factory settings (no data for sure).
if you are having difficulties using media created by you, please order one from HP.
Hope it helps.

  • Re: Vista Recovery after Dban

    Hello everybody!
I would like to wipe my HD with Dban and reinstall my OEM Vista afterwards, because I travel a lot and want to use this as a travel-laptop only, with no private data on it.
So my question is: is it possible to reinstall Vista with the Recovery CD after using Dban, because it wipes the complete HD.
    Thanks for your help!
    alp

    Hello Horwath,
thanks for your reply. I have two partitions on my HD, (C:) and (E:). But if I check the HD-administration, there is another 1,5 GB space shown, that is marked as EISA-configuration. So, I don't know if there are stored some parts of the OS, which might (after using Dban, which wipes everything) cause problems reinstalling the OS with the recovery CD.
So the question is, does the usual reformatting by recovery CD the same as Dban (wipe all partitions and the EISA-configuration space)? If it does, reinstalling OS with the recovery CD after using Dban should be no problem.

  • How to install 10.5 if erased HDD with 10.4?

I wanted to install 10.4 fresh so I erased the HDD with a program I use on my PC all the time to do fresh installs of XP (formats the drive). I stupidly thought the 10.4 disk that came with my mac was a full install. I soon found out that wasn't true. I decided to go buy 10.5 not just for the upgrade but to have a disc to use if I ever needed to reinstall the OS. Well, turns out that doesn't want to install either. The only thing that happens when I put it in is a screen comes up saying there's no bootable device or CD and to press any key when there is one. Pressing anything on the computer doesn't work. I now realize that it's not a full version like I thought it was (I asked the guy at the counter if it would install without 10.4 and he said yes. Now I can't return it because it's software).
Can anyone give me any advice on what to do? I don't have another mac or an iPod so any ideas with those are out of the question. Thanks for reading.

    Welcome to the Forum!
It sounds like you bought an upgrade version of Leopard rather than the standard installation disc. Yet, the guy at the counter led you to believe it was the latter. If that has turned out not to be the case take it back and get him to confirm that you have purchased on his advice the wrong disc for your system. I am surprised though as there should be a clear distinction between upgrade and install discs.

  • Unable to reinstall Mountain Lion after erasing MacBook Pro.

    Hi guys,
Wondering if there are any smart techies out there willing to help me whilst I wait for Apple's support team to get back to me.
I recently (a few weeks ago) wiped my Macbook Pro (early 2011) 13" 320GB in order to resell it and now I am trying to reinstall OS in order for it to be a fully working laptop again. It originally came with Snow Leopard but I purchased Moutain Lion through the app store when it came out, I then upgraded to Mavericks and had been running that. Now that its fully erased, it gives me a few options on what to do; get online help, launch the disk utility or reinstall os Lion. The problem I have is I never purchased Lion, I only bought Mountain Lion -  so when I try going through that route it says I have bought it (obviously). Ive been through disk utility and ran all the checks, everything seems to come back fine and dandy so I am not quite sure what to do now. I don't mind reinstallion Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion or whatever, as long as it becomes a fully functioning laptop again...I can always upgrade it later on.
I would really appreciate any help on this and also I am a complete newbie when it comes to Apple products, so I would be greally grateful for any advice. I should probably add that I can't find any disks that came with the laptop, I never throw anything away but I have read that the older models came with startup disks so I have no idea what to do!
    Thannk you

Please only reinstall Snow Leopard if that is the original OS that was pre-installed. You must not install any later version of OS X that you acquired because it will not work for the buyer. This also holds true for any App Store software you purchased using your Apple ID. You should not reinstall any of that software because it is useless to another owner. The following procedure will make a fresh installation of Snow Leopard that can be upgraded to 10.6.8. That's all you should provide.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Reinstalling iPhoto 2 after erase & install

iPhoto originally installed along with OS10.2.3 when the Mac was new 3 years ago. Upgraded to Tiger (OS10.4.3 on DVD) then to 10.4.4 via download. Recently had to erase & reinstall system from the Tiger DVD to overcome numerous 'verify' errors. iPhoto data folders are backed up to an external disk ready to reinstall. Question is, can I now resinstall the iPhoto app from the original system DVD or will this also attempt to revert the OS to 10.2.3?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   768MB memory; 200GB LaCie USB drive

Try a Google search to see if there is a local Mac users' group in your area. Somebody there is bound to still have iPhoto 2. You don't even need the installer, just a copy of the application (which, once you've retrieved, you should copy to a CD and keep for the next time you erase it from your machine).

  • Reinstalling OSX Problems After Erasing HD

    Hi all,
I'm in a tricky situation- I am preparing to sell my 2010 iMac (A1311) and so I have securely erased my hard drive using a 10.6 install disk. I was running Mavericks before erasing, but I didn't want my Apple ID associated with the computer when I sold it so I wanted to install 10.6. The computer worked perfectly before erasing, and the erasing process was smooth and with no problems.
Then I tried to restart the computer so I could install 10.6 on my newly formatted HD. However, after I hold the "option" key down when powering up and select the 10.6 Install Disk as my one and only boot-up option, I get stuck on the grey screen with the dark grey apple logo. I've tried several keyboard as well as an external disk drive and I'm getting the same results.
What could the problem be and how should I fix it? I can't access Disk Utilities because I can't get past the grey screen.
Again, I'm a little stumped because the iMac has no hardware problems and the disk worked perfectly on another machine earlier in the day.
    Thanks!

What you tried should have worked and the disk is loading if you can see it with the option key held down. Try restarting while holding down the C key.

How can I find the correct Sata controller driver for a DV7-1245dx so I can reinstall Vista on a new HDD.  I've tried driver from HP site with no luck.

    Hi:
You should be able to install Vista without the need of a SATA AHCI controller driver.

  • Vista recovery CDs not working

A virus completely hosed my X200 laptop.  I'm trying to do a bare metal restore from the Vista recovery disks that came with the laptop.  The disk boots a seems to be going ok, then it hits a screen a just sits there for a minute or so.  The DVD drive isn't doing anything and the HD isn't doing anything.  Then it just reboots.  If I leave the disk in it will repeat this cycle over and over again, so it's not that it's doing some sort of prep on the first round.
Is there a way to fix this or are my CDs bad?  I just removed them from their packaging and the look like they are in pristine condition.

    ErikEngbrecht, welcome to the forum,
having read your posts you seem to have been doing everything correctly. As your system is hanging after booting from disc #1, I'd suggest copying that disc and trying to boot from the copy. If the same occurs contact support and ask them to send you another set.
Alertanitively, have you tried booting to the service partition? Press the blue ThinkVantage button when booting, when you see the message "To interrupt.....". This should then offer you the possibility of selecting F11 to diagnose or recover your system.
Yet another alternative would be to create your own recovery discs, assuming your system still works, these will be created from the service partition and should not be influenced by the virus infection.
    Hope this helps

  • After refomatting HDD, reinstalling Vista plus service packs, recovering files from Microsoft backup and installing new copy of Firefox 3.6, Firefox will not run. Have deleted all old M0zilla profile folders and reinstalled Firefox again to no avail.

After computer would not boot and could not be repaired, I reformatted the HDD, reinstalled Vista plus all service packs and updates, recovered files from Microsoft backup and installed new copy of Firefox 3.6. Firefox will not run.
I have deleted all old M0zilla profile folders and reinstalled Firefox again to no avail.
After intallation was completed, the automatic startup just placed a small box on the screen "Import wiz". This just sat there with no activity. After I closed this box, none of the Firefox start buttons would open the program -- just the blue rotating icon for about 2 seconds then nothing.

  • How do I reinstall OS X after HDD - SSD change?

I am looking at switching out my HDD for an SSD, and I was wondering, how will I reinstall OS X after having switched out the HDD for the SSD?
Mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro, so there were no installation discs or anything. So how do I do it?
    Thanks!

You have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. 2010 and newer Macs are compatible with Internet Recovery, a feature included in the firmware which allows you to start in OS X Recovery even if you haven't got Recovery HD on the hard disk. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
To start Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your MacBook Pro is starting. Then, select the option to reinstall OS X and follow the steps. If you can't install OS X in the hard drive, close the installer, open Disk Utility and create a partition formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Also, make sure you make a GUID partition table on your SSD. Read > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • Recovery on Sat Pro C660-2KM with new HDD with restored Recovery partition

    Hey Folks,
I had a problem with a virus on that sat pro, so I decided to totally erase the hdd to get rid of that virus. Bevor I did that, I saved everything from partiton D including the recovery path and after erasing of course I copied everything back at it's place (second partition).
Now trying to recover and don't know how to do it. F11, F10 and F8 seems not to work. Do I need the Recovery media created with recovery media creator or can I still use the recovery path on the new D: partition?
Thanks for your help in advance,
    Stefan

    Hi
    > Do I need the Recovery media created with recovery media creator or can I still use the recovery path on the new D: partition?
Toshiba recovery media creator can be used ONLY if the HDD and the partition table has not been modified. In your case the recovery media creator would not work anymore since you delete everything from the HDD and lost the recovery marks.
The only solution: you need the recovery disk and this can be ordered here:

  • I reset and erased my iphone 4 and now I can`t reinstall it! After I choose a language, region. and wifi, it says Please, try again later or contact customer care

I reset and erased my iphone 4 and now I can`t reinstall it! After I choose a language, region. and wifi, it says Please, try again later or contact customer care. I tried to do with iTunes, and iTunes even sees this iphone, but it`s like blank, there is nothing I can do in iTunes. It uploaded last software for this iPhone 4, but when it tries to do the reserve copy of iphone first, it shows a mistake. And ask to disconnect and connect the device again, which, obviously, doesn`t help.

This usually happens if the phone has been Hacked / Jailbroken / Modified...
    Is this the case...?
