Reinstalling windows - Pre leopard

Hello!
I want to install a different version of windows on my windos partition. I know that bootcamp is no longer avalible online, so is there a way to install the new version of windows without deleting and recrating the partition? (It's okay to overwrite all the data on the partition, there's nothing important there.)

You can activate old (pre-Leopard) BootCamp by 1.) going offline and then 2.) artificially set your Mac clock to October 2007 (or whenever). This is so much easier than any other method for doing a fresh install of Windows. You do NOT have to wipe the partition (altho' it would just take a sec...). Even still - keep your partition as-is. BootCamp still makes for an easier Windows re-install. (Note: I have done this myself - but the process DID become a bit stubborn - I had to try a few things twice to make it "go" but it still worked. I am offering this answer because nerowolf presumes you have purchased a Windows upgrade disk (and you never said that!) It IS ok to overwrite the data on the partition - you do not have to recreate the partition. Still - as I said BC Assistant is still a very nice interface to do any of those projects. (Of course same goes for users of Leopard BootCamp - only leave the clock as-is, of course.)

  • Do I really need to reinstall Windows partition when upgrading to Leopard?

I've installed Leopard and installed the Leopard drivers in Windows. Now Startup Disk control panel does not show the Windows boot option. I can use it by holding down the Option key at boot time or by running BootChamp. Windows works fine.
I ran the Boot Camp Assistant and it says "This disk appears to have been partitioned by another utility, It must be erased before installing Windows" I used BCA to set the drive up (under beta of course.)
Any clue how to get back the startup disk option without reinstalling Windows? Should I really care about it?

All I did was do an archive/install of Leopard which went very smoothly. I then booted into my existing boot camp partition which was the boot camp beta/Vista Ultimate, stuck in my Leopard DVD and allowed it to upgrade the drivers. Everything went as smooth as silk, no problems. I can pick the windows partition as the startup disk or my Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard as the startup drive.
Of course I had everything backed up first just in case, but it went without a hitch. So I know it is possible to accomplish without having to reinstall windows.

  • Not able to reinstall OSX Snow Leopard - broken hard drive?

    Hi!
So I have the following problem, that I would like to have some help with.
Until recently my iMac (early 2008, 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 gb ram, 24") has been running with OSX and Windows 7 in bootcamp. All of the sudden, I was not able to boot OSX; when trying to do this the computer stalls on a grey screen with a loading bar in the bottom (like this http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10387698-263.html). I decided to reinstall OSX, but it was not possible. Everytime I tried to select the hard drive during installation the computer instantly goes into grey screen.
Being pretty stuck here, I then continued to formatting and reinstalling Windows 7. I have now been running RAM test and there are not visible problems. Also I am still not able to reinstall OSX even after a format. It leads me to think that the hard drive may be close to dying.
Does anyone have some similar experiences? Opinions?
    Best regards, Mikkel

So, I decided to run some diagnostics:
I am not sure that I decipher the numbers correctly, but the four pre-failures on top seems threatening. Am I right?

  • I can't reinstall Windows Xp pro SP3 from installation disk on my IBM Thinkpad T40

    Dear folk,
I have bought used IBM Thinkpad t40 in Germany.
It has Windows XP in German, wich works well but it makes some dificulties while I am using some functions.
I decided to reinstall Windows XP Pro in English.
My Windows XP Pro CD instructed me to install XP from BIOS.
    This is how it works.
I got to BIOS by clicking blue button "IBM acsess".
I have got to BIOS released in 15/05/2003.
My Win XP Pro CD instructed me to press Delete to boot Cd-Rom and run Win XP installator.
Meanwhile, pressing "Delete" button did not produce any effect.
I got to Start up menu in BIOS, then I tried to run CD-Rom to run Windows XP from my installation CD.
But it has not produce any effect.
    System stayed still.
As result, I can not install Windows XP English version.
Please, hint me how can I reistall Windows XP English on my notebook.
May be something with old BIOS version and I has to update it?
Should I use other menu in BIOS for installation (actually I used all of them)?
    Or anything else? Please, advice.
Or I has to learn German? )))
    Looking forward for any help.
    Cheers

    Hi and welcome..
leave short your german XP on your T40 ... you need it to update BIOS..
first i prefer to update your BIOS ... Download this T40 BIOS
    Version: 1RETDRWW (3.23) Release Date: 2007/07/03
you see this is abit newer ... follow the instructions to update...if update is successfull...you can go in BIOS
look at tab startup ... change startup sequence so that DVD/CD Drive is on first place and usb-device on second and HDD on third you can move this via F5 / F6.. exit and save with F10 ...
Download all drivers that you need from this page and save them on extra USB Stick or external HDD...you will need this to complete your install after XP is fresh installed
    T40 Driver Table
Insert your English XP with SP3 in DVD/CD Drive and restart...
if a message comes press space to install from CD ...
follow the instructions.. delete (format drive C: where the german XP is ... and install XP in english..
when installation process is done... look at device manager you see many yellow questionmarks ..no installed drivers... Now use the pre-downloaded drivers from external HDD/USB Device... keep in mind that drivers are compressed when clicking on that the driver first deflates to c:\drivers\win\ [foldername]... sometimes you have to go in the correct folder and start setup to install it for real...
or you can install TVSU ThinkVantageSystemUpdater:
    TVSU
that helps you .. but in that case you have to install Wireless or Cable Network first...
i dont prefer this because at this time you dont have a antivirus program ..
a small and good advice is AntiVir you can freewareversion download here
    Free Antivir English
So good luck ...with fresh "english XP" on your T40...
    sincerely KalvinKlein

  • Computer crashed had to reinstall windows how do i get my music off iphone back on to itunes

after reinstalling windows obviously itunes is empty and my songs are on iphone. any surgestions?

The 5 authorized COMPUTERS has NOTHING to do with ipods.
Itunes will allow up to 5 computers to be authorized to play pre-itunes+ music. When you reach the limit of 5 COMPUTERS, then you can de-authorize them all, then authorize the active ones again.
You can sync as many ipods as you like to a computer.
In the future, it is a good idea to de-authorize before re-installing your os or getting rid of a computer.

  • Can I reinstall Windows in Boot Camp without unpartitioning my hard drive?

    Hi!
I've had my iMac with Boot Camp for a while, and I'm the kind of person that likes to download lots of junk. On my Mac partition, I downloaded Parallels, and used it with my windows partition. Later that day, I found out that using Parallels with a Boot Camp partition can corrupt files, which is what happened. My Windows partition still works, but it's a little screwy.
So, I was wondering if I can reinstall Windows XP without unpartitioning my hard drive, and without effecting Mac OS X.
    Thanks~

Yes. It is quite straightforward - you boot into OS X, insert your Windows install disk, go to Applications (or is it Utilities?) open BootCamp - the Assistant opens. Then you ignore the partition options and just click on install Windows. BootCamp should be used for all things Windows.. ....I myself originally made the mistake of re-installing Windows one time while IN Windows (I didn't even think). I made a mess!
    Edit
My machine came with Tiger. I was sooooo impressed when I purchased Leopard that I could choose to do an erase/install of OS X without even touching the Windows side. Really nice - I still have that original Windows install untouched!

  • Flex 2 15 - Need to reinstall Windows 8.1

Hi! I'm new here so be patients please!
I have recently bought a Lenovo Flex 2-15 and it came with pre-installed Windows 8.1. My supplier was Newegg.com.
Everything was great and beautiful, except I wasn't able to close the optical drive door. After a few more tries and tries, it, finely, closed. Now it's working just fine every time I use it, exactly as intended.
For a few day ago, I experienced some bad activity due to installing a plug-in which suppose to help me watch some online TV stations. It seems I got a virus or a maleware. Even with my updated antivirus, the system runs pretty "cloggy" and browsers (no matter which of the: IE11, Chrome, Firefox, Safary - all being up to date) are displaying a lot of ads, most of  them are covering the page but you cannot see them. When ready to click on a link or just click on a free area with no link, they start to open in separate pages and make your work worst.
OK! This is not something too new or strange to me. But I really want to reinstall the OS and have it like it was in the beginning.
It is about a pre-installed version of Windows 8.1
I would go for Windows 8 as well, as I can update it to the v8.1 later and for free. All I need to know is:
HOW CAN I REINSTALL IT since I got no copy of OS when received the laptop?! No ISO image, no rescue DVD, no nothing or anything. Is there any process steps I have to follow?
Please, I need your help. Post here ONLY if you really know how to do it and did it before. Thank you so much in advance.
P.S.: 1. Don't try to advise me using the OneTouch Recovery Option or any kind or utility like this, since my computer is INFECTED with something.
P.S.: 2. I have already been uninstalling all browsers and clean the remaining files from Registry and after that to reinstall them back. Got the same situation with unwanted and hidden ads.

  • Reinstalled Windows XP -- Want to reinstall Palmone software and restore previous data.

Hello,  I have a HP Pavillion PC computer with Windows XP Media addition.
My Palm device are a Zire 71 and a Palm Treo PDA.
I had to reinstall Windows XP with the factory restore disc.  This installed a new clean copy of Windows XP and left all pre-existing data from other programs on the drive.
My palmone software is still on the hard drive with the data, but the program obviously does not run on the new XP install.  The palm one software has to be reinstalled.
My Palm software is in a directory labeled Palmone.  I am unsure of the version of my software, but I have the original CD to install from.
I want to reinstall the Palm One software from the CD, and I want it to restore the original data from the existing files.  I have made copies of the existing path and all files to a backup drive.
Is it just as easy as reinstalling the software and the software will see the original files and incorporate the existing data?  Or will I need to copy something over from my copies of the old data into the new files?
Just want to make sure I'm doing this right the first time.
    Thanks in advance~
    Matt.
    Post relates to: Zire 71

Hello~ Thank you for your fast reply, I am impressed~!
I should have provided you with another detail, that the most current data is not on the devices, and that is why I am motivated to preserve the data that is on the hard drive.
Because the XP is a clean installation, there is no entry for uninstalling the current installation.  The current installation is simply there on the hard drive.
If I install the Palmone software brand new and sync with the devices, there will be data lost from the calendar / schedule / and contacts that was on the computer but not yet updated to the PDA.
Therefore it is imperative that I restore the data files from the old installation to the new.
I hope this clarifies.  Thanks again for you quick response.
    Matt.

  • Got a virus, reinstalled Windows XP. Now mostly everything's not working.

I got a virus before and it crashed my laptop. So I decided to bring it in Staples and I guess they deleted all my datas in Windows and reinstalled Windows XP. Before, I can use everything (WiFi, Bluetooth, Speakers, Camera + Mic, etc.) Now, they're all not working, except for the keyboard, of course. So, what do you suggest for me to do? Thanks in advance!

Can you ensure and confirm that is the Leopard Installation Disk (10.5) that you are trying to insert to install the boot camp drivers?
Are you using the Leopard Installation disk or are you using the disks that came with your macbook? If you are using the installation disks that came with your Mac then confirm that your macbook came with Leopard and not Tiger. This is because the boot camp drivers would not have been on the Tiger disks.
Finally, please confirm which version of Boot Camp drivers were you running when the macbook was working and prior to acquiring a virus.
The above information will help me help you better.
    Axel F.
I checked the disk and i guess it's not Leopard, it doesn't say anything on it. But I saw the papers that was included on the package before and it says there Tiger. So I think it is Tiger. I'm not using the Leopard Installation Disk. I'm using the 2 disks that were included with the Macbook. I'm sorry, I don't know what Boot Camp version this is. I guess it's still the very first version since I bought this because I haven't been updating my Mac OS. I'm currently using Windows XP to check this.

  • Reinstall Windows 7 on a new HD - on a G570

    This is nerve racking...
I have a G570, where the hard drive went bad. I have purchased a new hard drive, and would like to install it and reinstall Windows 7 that came pre-installed on the system. Without physical media, can someone tell me how to go about doing this?
    Thanks.

    Hi Charles,
If your hard drive isn't totally gone, you might be able to burn a set of restore discs using OKR.  Here's an article.
As far as the clean MS install, the key on the laptop will work.  You still have to enter the key,  it's just that just entering the key won't activate Windows.
You have to use the phone option.  It takes about 10 minutes.  I had to do it a couple of times.
Or, you can use a program to back up the Windows activation so it automagically activates.  There's a thread around here, I'll try to find the link.
    Here it is:  Windows 7

  • New motherboard Cant use HP backup to reinstall windows 7

HiI damaged my motherboard in my HP pavilion P6630 I manage to get one the same (H-ALPINIA-RS780L-UATX)since then i cannot reinstall windows 7 from the reinstalation disc!Is there a way around this? I have the COA on the side of my PC.Microsoft will not allow me to download windows 7 saying the serial number is from a pre-installed version and i would need to contact the vendor?

Do you have a friend with a Windows 7 install disk, the same as what you had on your system. ex. Home premium 64bit. If you have the Windows 7 key on the COA sticker, you may use that disk to reinstall Windows although I see from your specs that Windows XP was originally installed!!

  • Need help reinstalling Windows 7 home premium on HP G62-435DX

My internal hard disk crashed and I followed advice from this forum to use Ubuntu (using live disc from CD ROM drive) to recover data and save to external hard drive. Next, I replaced the internal hard drive with a 500GB internal hard drive. I figured out how to partition the new internal hard drive and get Ubuntu to acknowledge it.
Now, I'm trying to figure out how to reinstall my Windows 7 Home Premium operating system so I can try to get back to normal. However, I cannot figure out how to download Windows 7 to my hard drive using my product key that came with my machine when I bought it. All the download options appear to require you to buy/request Windows 7 recovery discs to run and install on the machine (since I didn't create these prior to my hard disk failing).
Is this really the only way I can use my product key to reinstall Windows 7 to my machine? Also, I cannot figure out how to download the OS from Windows 7 ISO downloads (via Digital River) to my internal hard drive - seems I can only do this by downloading and burning to CDs (which I don't believe I have the right kind - but obviously am happy to buy if it's the best/fastest option). It seems I have very limited options since I had to remove my internal hard drive, which then eliminated Windows 7 from my machine.
Based on these details - I ultimately want to determine the fastest, most efficient way to get Windows 7 OS back on my machine. I'd prefer to download it, but am hamstrung by having to run Ubuntu from a Live CD. Thanks for your help!

Here are the specs for your HP G62-435DX Notebook Computer. Here is the HP Software and Driver Downloads page if you wish to order the HP Recovery Discs and have them mailed to you. If you wish to download Windows 7 and use the Windows product key on the bottom of your computer, please see How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc for instructions on downloading, creating the installation media (DVD or USB), and installing Windows. You will need a funtional computer with DVD burning software capable of burning the ISO to disc.

  • How to reinstall Windows 8.1 on Bootcamp?

I am trying to reinstall Window 8.1 on Bootcamp after Disk Utility reported that the hard drive it was originally located on was failing and needed to be replaced. I did so. Now when Windows 8.1 installer launches, it thinks I'm doing an upgrade and insists that I "reboot Windows Normally" and then launch the Installer, which is impossible because it's freshly formatted, NEW hard drive.
Here are the steps that I followed:
    1) Disk Utility reports that Boot Camp drive is failing and replace it.
    2) Remove failing hard disk, replace with new one.
    3) Launch Bootcamp Assistant.
    4) Download support drives to USB stick.
    5) Begin install process using same Windows disk (64-bit FULL VERSION) used previously.
    6) Windows Installer asks for Product Key.
    7) I enter product key.
    8) WIndows asks to agree to license terms.
    9) Setup presents ONLY two choices:
         Upgrade Installation
         Custom Installation
    10) I choose Upgrade.
    11) Windows Setup reports that Upgrade can only take place from Windows environment, to eject Windows Install disk, and to reboot into Windows "normally." Cannot eject Windows install disk. Click Close box.
    12) Windows Installer relaunches.
    13) Install process starts over again.
    Please note:
    1) This is a fully licensed copy of Windows 8.1
    2) I am using it on the same Mac as the original installation. Only change is the hard drive.
    3) This is not an authentication issue. Windows accepts the Product Key.
    4) Parallels is not involved in any way.
I have talked to several Windows support teams. None were helpful and ultimately said this was a Bootcamp/Apple problem
Apple Support was much more helpful but said they'd never encountered this problem before and were flummoxed.
I have reformatted the Bootcamp hard disk several times. At one point I thought the issue might be that the Mac still thinks the original Windows installation exists because I kept the same name for the new hard disk. Renaming and reformatting did not change the behavior.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I wound up solving, or at least working around my problem. Selecting "Custom Install", instead of Upgrade, took me to a dialog box where  Installer could format the Bootcamp drive from scratch. Installation then proceeded as expected. Unfortunately this cost me my partition, but that was better than being stuck in this Upgrade Catch-22. Note that formatting and partitioning this drive within the Boot Camp assistant did not solve my problem.

  • Reinstall windows 7 and then back to windows 8

Hi would like to reinstall windows 7 for the programs I missed.
What happen to me was I installed files for windows 7 not 8 and a720 crashed and when I installed windows 8 again some things were gone that I wanted to keep. The f2 key will not work after you install windows 8 and that fine.
I have windows 8 working fine now but what I want is to be able to reinstall back to factory and then upgrade to windows 8 again I understand this is what I need from your parts 51-29051 and would like to get this sent to me.
I still have the oem partition with the ork files but don't know how to use them at this time.
My thoughts are I should be able to set my a720 i5 back to the factory settings like how I bought it.
I never thought I would not be able to use onekey for this to happen.
Hope you can help after this I will call Lenovo and see what they can do.

What programs are you missing from W7 installation? If the preinstalled Lenovo software then it's not compatible with W8 anyway.

  • How Do I Convert Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview and Back Without Reinstalling Windows?

    Howdy,
Much like in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Windows 10 provides you with experience that allows you to convert your Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview without having to reinstall Windows.
Why would I need converting my Windows SKU (edition)
Currently, you may need this to fix issues with Windows not synchronizing browser favorites between different editions. For example, if you're using Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview in a test environment at work and Windows 10 Pro Technical
Preview at home, you won't see favorites added on Enterprise edition at home and vice versa. All the links added on Pro edition while browsing web at home won't appear on your work PC.
To convert Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10
    Enterprise Technical Preview:
    1. Press WindowsKey+PauseBreak and select Add Windows Features at the bottom left corner of System window.
    2. In the Add features to <OSName> window click to add Product key and type in the
public product key for Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview available here.
Voila! Your Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview is now converted to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview.
To convert Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview to Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview:
Following the above procedure does NOT reveal Add features to Windows 10 link button in System window.
We could try doing this through DISM tool.
    1. Press WindowsKey+X and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. At the command prompt type dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition to obtain information about the current edition of Windows:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Image Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Current edition is:
    Current Edition : Enterprise
    The operation completed successfully.
    PS C:\Windows\system32>
    3. Check which versions you may switch to:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /Get-TargetEditions
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Image Version: 10.0.9926.0
Editions that can be upgraded to:
(The current edition cannot be upgraded to any target editions.)
    The operation completed successfully.
Looks like Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview cannot be downgraded.
To downgrade edition from Enterprise to Pro, you can trick Windows setup into thinking it is running on Pro by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion and changing the following keys:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Enterprise"
    "ProductName"="Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview"
I believe for Pro edition this must be
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Professional"
    "ProductName"="Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview"
After that you may run in-place upgrade using Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Setup disc.
Note, if you can't find the Add features to option in Control panel, press Windows Key + R and type control /name Microsoft.WindowsAnytimeUpgrade.
If you want to, you could change Windows edition via DISM servicing tool by running:
    DISM /online /Set-Edition:Enterprise /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula
In case you can't access official page for
Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview download, or the page that contains
product key for Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview, you can always obtain the product key by looking for
F:\sources\pid.txt on the Windows Setup disc.
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

    2. In the Add features to <OSName> window click to add Product key and type in the
public product key for Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview available here.
Voila! Your Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview is now converted to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview.
To convert Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview to Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview:
Following the above procedure does NOT reveal Add features to Windows 10 link button in System window.
We could try doing this through DISM tool.
    1. Press WindowsKey+X and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. At the command prompt type dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition to obtain information about the current edition of Windows:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Image Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Current edition is:
    Current Edition : Enterprise
    The operation completed successfully.
    PS C:\Windows\system32>
    3. Check which versions you may switch to:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /Get-TargetEditions
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Image Version: 10.0.9926.0
Editions that can be upgraded to:
(The current edition cannot be upgraded to any target editions.)
    The operation completed successfully.
Looks like Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview cannot be downgraded.
To downgrade edition from Enterprise to Pro, you can trick Windows setup into thinking it is running on Pro by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion and changing the following keys:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Enterprise"
    "ProductName"="Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview"
I believe for Pro edition this must be
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Professional"
    "ProductName"="Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview"
