Reinstalling XP on Mini 5101

Hi there,
I have some issue with my HP mini 5101 and I try to reformat and reinstall XP onto my 5101. What happen was after i insert the XP CD into my usb ext cd rom and boot up with it. The problem i'm facing is, windows xp will auto load all the neccessary drivers and start up windows and when it start up, it tells me that it can't detect any harddisk for reinstallation. Anyone has encounter any similar problems and perhaps provide me some advise?
Thanks
Jim

Yes all the time. You need the SATA driver incorporated into the XP disk or loaded at the initial F6 prompt when installing XP by way of a usb floppy disk.
You can make a new XP CD incorporating the driver very easily. Use nLite...www.nliteos.com
The directions at the website could not be better.

I refurbish companies retired computers as part of my business, part of our agreement is the machines all come blank, they delete partitions and wipe the entire hdd multiple times prior to my getting them, Most are as simple as reinstalling windows and any missing drivers and they are complete machines again, I currently have been working on an hp mini 5101 off and on for a couple of weeks now that I have been unable to get to take a copy of windows, and I have tried them all, xp, vista, 7, 8 and none have taken, I tried running ubuntu as a live cd and same as windows during the gui windows loading screen the machine freezes, I even tried popping the hdd out and throwing it into my other hp machine and doing a windows install with an hp windows 7 32 bit install disc, when installed hdd back in machine it again freezes when it reaches the animated windows graphic, I have searched forums, here and the internet in general, and have found no other mention of this occuring, i have found reference to the screen doesnt support it so people see the vista screen instead but i see the windows 7 screen then freeze during the animation. I am assuming (yes i know what happens when you assume, thats why i am here asking for help) this is somehow bios related from their prior use of the machine, I had some toshibas that come in that required a certian mode be changed from ahci to compatablity in order to install windows, I know that the company that had it got it with a vista key and an xp downgrade, I am trying to install 7 on it.
Any other information I may have left out let me know,
Thank you for any help you may be able to give

    Hi MidwayIT,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Mini 5101 and freezing after loading Windows. If it freezes on the loading screen it could be the graphics card. Have you performed a hardware test?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • HP MINI 5101 problem with instaling XP SP3 with Usb Hard disk

i have problem formatting and installing windows XP SP3 with my usb hard disk on HP Mini 5101
my laptop wont read my usb anyone have any suggestions???
    please help

I dont know the exact reason.... and HP engineer can tell you though... but i'm sure that it was built like this purposly...
    my thinking is:
the WWAN Modem works constantly with the battery power as the AC power may differ some times and it can harm the modem...
    also suppose..
the netbook is running on the battery power and you are using the WWAN....
you plugged in the AC adapter... which will offcource change the incoming power to the laptop...
if the WWAN also switches to the AC power then it will face interaption and your work will get interepted....
    it is like cell phones.....
they will not get signal unless the battery is inserted...

  • HP Mini 5101 ***Speakers Crackle*** Guys Please HELP ME!!!

    Hello guys,
Ive been browsing the forums but no luck with this issue.
I installed a Windows XP Pro SP3 on my HP Mini 5101. I also installed the appropriate drivers for this machine. All works well but got a problem in my speakers. A crackling noise in my speaker whenever I play videos, music and even system sound.
My speakers crakle. Please help me how to fix this issue. Thanks.
    Additional info:
    ROM Date: 9/25/2009
    ROM BIOS Version: F.02

If this problem occurred following the update, do a system restore back to a date before you updated.  If that works you can then run the updates again.  Perhaps something got corrupted as it loaded.
You could also try running the harddrive test in the BIOS.  The test not only checks your hdd, but it can repair minor glitches it finds in some software.  I had a sound issue that was magically repaired after I ran the test for another problem, so give it a shot.  It takes about 1.5 hrs to run.
Use the following steps to run the test:
If the computer is running, shut it down.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Press f10 when the HP/Compaq logo displays.
Use the arrow keys to select the Diagnostic menu.
Select HDD Self-Test Options , and then press Enter .
Select the Notebook Hard Drive option, and then press f10 to display an Estimated test time .
Press f10 to continue. The Hard Drive Self Test executes the SMART test, along with a Quick test and a Comprehensive test.
After the test completes, be sure to restart the computer to determine if the test repaired the problem.

  • Mini 5101 battery life

I bought a new HP Mini 5101 (FU355EA, 4 cell battery) a few days ago and installed WIndows 7 on it. Even when fully charged, the battery doesn't last very long. Although HP says the battery is supposed to last for about 4 to 4 and a half hours, I get about 2 and a half, even in Win7 power saving mode (right now the battery is at about 86% with 2 hours and 7 minutes remaining). Should I be worried or is this normal because the Mini is new and using a more advanced OS than XP Home it came with?
    Thanks!

I have had the same problem as you. I installed Microsoft XP, I've just bought it on May 31st. I've heard of the battery can use in range from 3.5 to 5 hours, but mine only runs more than 2 hours. I dont use so many applications on the same time. Just 3G signal turn on, MS Office applications, without watching films or playing games.
I have asked for help from HP technical service. It seems no help. The reason I decided to buy HP mini 5101 is battery run for a long time, but the truth is in the opposite. Where could I get help with this? God knows (

  • Pinout for HP Mini 5101 Camera (BN81U50U-000)

I got an old HP Mini 5101 that was broken and decided to just harvest parts from it. I've seen people on the internet make a USB web cam out of old laptop cameras and wanted to try it but just can't find the pinout for this camera anywhere. Does anyone know the pinout of this camera? Thanks!
Pro tip, if it's hard to see the image, just right click on it and open it in a new tab, then you can zoom in.

Dorgem has been discontinued so I think you'll have to go with MSN live messenger.

  • Reinstall Leopard on Mini that came with Tiger

I have a Mini that came with Tiger installed just before Leopard came out and I got the disk to update it to Leopard through the up to date program. I updated it to Leopard and have been using this Mini to load and test a lot of different programs.
I want to re-install Leopard doing a erase and install to start again clean but am wondering if I can do it form the update disk or will I need to install Tiger first and then run the update to Leopard like I did after I received it?

put in the install disc, and when you're at the screen where you select which disc to install to, click options, and it gives you the option to erase partition and reinstall leopard without needing to upgrade. did i word that confusing? it says that you need v 10.4 *or higher to do the upgrade, BUT if you don't click options and choose the reformat (last option) then it will upgrade and keep your old system folder on the drive. any questions, i'll be checking back at this post.

  • HP Printer update keeps getting reinstalled. Mac mini with Lion.

I have a new Mac mini with Lion and the HP Deskjet all-in-one printer with scanner that came with a rebate so I got it for free. When I check for new software I get a notice that there is an update to the HP printer driver (I think it is v 5.7). I go ahead and do the update and it says it was installed. When I check later on for new software the same update shows up, as if I never did the upgrade. What gives?

Thanks for the feedback. Since I did the original post I found the solution by searching the community for "HP Update". Someone posted that you need to delete a folder within the Library folder and then do the update again. The deleted folder for the HP Printer will wind up in the trash, but you need to reboot the Mac before you can empty the trash.

  • Hp mini 5101 charging problem

Hi I have charging problem with my mini5101.
When is turned on, the battery is charging normaly, but when is turned off the power led near the ac adapter socket after 10 min start blinking constantly  and the battery stops charging.
I have tested the battery and ac adapter and it seems that both are working fine. I have also tryed a new bios and another ac adapter, same problem.
What sould I do... Please help

I'm having a slightly different problem and just repalced the AC adaptor just in case....NO LUCK.  When power cord is connected, I have no indication that the batteries are charging and when I attempt to turn on, the blues light near the AC adaptor input turns on briefly and dims to an "off-white" color and then the computer powers off.
I'm stuck and in desperate need of assistance, but trying to get through to the right person at customer service is very difficult.

  • I want to reinstall my mac mini.

    How?

Re-install from scratch with Mountain Lion?
If you already have Lion or Mountain Lion on it you can press "Option-R" during boot to reach the boot menu (you need USB connected keyboard). You can then erase the Mac partition with Disk Utilities from that menu and then choose install. You need backup and an Apple ID that links to your Lion/Mountain Lion purchase and it needs to be connected to the Internet.
