Reiterative parsing of static XML.

Hello:
I've a quick question. I've a class which takes data from lots of static XML files (translations, for example). "Static" in the sense that they don't change during the execution of the application but may be updated by me or other programmer if needed, for maintenance. Many of these files need to be read very frequently (there are many concurrent users). To avoid making the XML parser work in such a reiterative way, I've thought about keeping the obtained data in some kind of "temporal media".
One idea which I had was to keep the data in form of arrays or maps, and then store them as temporal object files, using the class ObjectOutputStream. However this also means to serialize, check the existence of the instantiated class, etc. I guess... Do you believe that's a good mechanism or would you choose another way?
Thank you.

Dude, just use a cache. In memory. If you're worried about running out of heap space, make it a LRU cache. I'll bet you can find an LRU cache implementation on the web somewhere. As usual, I'll bet Apache Jakarta Commons has one; if not, there's probably something on sourceforge.
Saving them to disk and restoring them from disk would eat up as much time as parsing the XML from disk. (Well, maybe you could come up with an efficient compressed format that would take less time to parse, but parsing is probably not the dominant time sink -- that could just as easily be the raw IO -- so gains would be small and probably not worth bothering with.)

  • How to decode a base64 image that is parsed from an xml

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to decode a base64 image that is parsed from an XML. I was able to decode everything except for an image, and it resulted in weird characters such as
    ??f?
    I used sun.misc.BASE64Decoder()
    Thanks in advance,
    Squid

    Hi,
    I know that those are wierd characters because I have the correctly decoded data, and it looks different. Does any one know how to decode against the ASCII
    I know the following code would decode my base64 image correctly, but i dont know how to do the same in java for the follwing C# line of code:
    System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlDecode(sXMLString,
    System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding(1252));
    Below is the entire C# code that successfully decode the base64 image from " test9.xml"
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.IO;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Xml;
    using System.Web;
    namespace DecodeXML
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    string sFileName = "test9.xml";
    string sXMLString = File.ReadAllText(@"C:\NET 2.0 Projects\ThrowAways\SampleLabels\" + sFileName);
    string resultString =
    System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlDecode(sXMLString,
    System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding(1252));
    XmlDocument oXML = new XmlDocument();
    oXML.LoadXml(resultString);
    XmlNode oLabel = oXML.SelectSingleNode("//LabelBody");
    // removed the line that saved it to a string variable, because it converts the binary characters to
    // incorrect text representations. However, by saving the bytes directly rectifies this
    File.WriteAllBytes(@"C:\NET 2.0 Projects\ThrowAways\SampleLabels\" + sFileName + ".txt", Convert.FromBase64String(oLabel.InnerText));
    Any suggestion is strongly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    hi,
    ypur structure is bad defined.
    if you want to do an insert, the DT should be

    the ROW field is used when you wait receive data from DB for example you execute and SQL Query from Sender communication channel "SELECT name FROM TABLE Names"
    so, the result of this query would be, for example:

    <row>

  • Parsing a single XML node by JAXB

    Hi,
    we are developing an application to communicate with an XML webservice. Basically there are a lot of diffferent xsd files, one group are object types while another are in and out formats for action requests.
    My question here is if it would be possible to parse an incoming XML string, look through it and let JAXB unmarshal only a couple of nodes from the XML. I would do this to parse my XML to a business object (containing other BO's) and because I would have to check on status information that came with the XML before trying to parse anything by JAXB.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Steven

    Above suggestion does not work for me.
    Am currently using this solution
    feed = event.result as XML;
    switch(feed.channel.item.length()) {
    case 0 :
      trace('No results found');
      break;
    case 1 :
      items = new ArrayCollection(ArrayUtil.toArray(feed.channel.item));
      break;
    default :
      items = convertXmlToArrayCollection(feed);
    Help me with a util function or something.

  • Parsing the large XML ( 1GB) using SAX PARSER

    We have very large XMLs being generated by processes. These XMLs should be validated first and then parsed next. We have implementation that works for small files. My question is
    how can we validate and parse large XMLs with SAX parser?

    The same way as parsing a small XML file, no? Why don't you try it? Then if you have problems that you can't solve, ask about them here.

    That's not a feed, it's a web page. Your feed is at
    http://www.blogtalkradio.com/bluespot.rss
    and this can be subscribed to successfully in iTunes.

  • Non-blocking parsing of multiple xml files

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to parse multiple huge XML files concurrently for a query system over multiple xml streaming systems.
    For each huge xml file, I read them into the memory gradually (the new data would cover the old data in the buffer if the buffer is full). Two questions here:
    1. Do I have to set up a socket and write the buffered data to the socket in order to simuate that the parser can parse infinitely? It sounds not good to use socket across two threads just for the "infinite" nature.
    2. I want to simulate concurrently parsing multiple streams. A straightforward way is to have each parser sit in a thread. Is there any otherway that I can put all parsers in one thread and alternately call them? This requires that each individual parser could parse whatever they have seen so far rather and resume when they are called again.
    I'm curiously awaiting for your answers.
    thanks a lot,
    hong

    just taking a guess: create your own reader by extending java.io.Reader ; and let this reader taking care of fetching the data that the parser will use.

  • JAXB parsing an incomplete xml file

    hi folks,
    i am trying to parse a incomplete xml file (e.g some attribute and child elements are missing) in order to complete it via jaxb. however, parsing throws a SAXParseException (premature end of file), which interally is marked as unrecoverable, and a unmarshaller isn't capable of returning a result. not even the objects created so far.
    so my question is if there a way of getting the (incomplete) object tree no matter if the parsing was successfully or not. (i am aware of the fact, that this object tree might be invalid)
    cheer, johannes

    Thanks, works like a charm :)
    Another question.
    I have an index.jsp page with an HTML form (a simple "search" form, made of a text area and a submit button). Now, what I want to do is passing the parameter to two distinct servlets, each one dealing with a web service (one with ebay, the other one with last.fm).
    Unfortunately, in the action tag of the form only one value can be specified.
    Any suggestions?

  • How to parse a dynamic xml in java

    I have to parse a dynamic xml document : the different TheItemNames and the racine are changing . So , can you help me with a code because to parse a xml document you must presents the racine and TheItemNames

    My previous post gives me an idea on how to use ArrayList of ArrayList as dynamic 2 dimensional array.
    More info bellow
    ArrayList rows = new ArrayList()
    ArrayList columns_of_row0 = new ArrayList()
    rows.insertAt(0) = columns_of_row0;
    ArrayList columns_of_row1 = new ArrayList()
    rows.insertAt(1) = columns_of_row1;and so on..
    You can't use the code exactly or similar way, it would depend on how this array grows in your application.
    But this and my previous post should give an idea on how to insert and retrieve elements from ArrayList when
    treated as 2 dimensional array.
    Hope this helps.
