Rejected photos = Deleted??

What actually happens with a rejected photo? I have a feeling they are NOT deleted nor is any space freed up by rejecting photos. It seems all it does is remove it's preview from the project, album, etc.
Is there a way to MASS delete all rejected items to free up some HD space?
Why or who would want to keep all those rejected items?
BRad

They are not deleted automatically. The default filter does not show rejected files. You can change this if you want. The default is "Unrated or Better". You can see this in the search box in the low right corner of the monitor, between the viewer and the browser. Click the triangle and choose "Rejected".
Another way is to make a new "Smart Album" at the top level where the "Rating 'is' " Rejected (move the slider to the far left).
Either way, select all, then delete the files.

  • I no longer get the dialog box when trying to delete rejected photos.

    I have always used the Delete Rejected Photos. . . selection to get rid of the photos I have flagged as rejected. However, after the rejected photos are shown, the dialog box no longer appears with the option to Delete from Disc or to Remove from the LR Catalog. I don't know if this problem began with LR 3.4 or before, but the timing was close. It isn't that I don't know how to use the function because I have been using it for years. Any help would be appreciated.

    Since I had 358 photos out of almost 2800 flagged as 'rejected' I did not
    want to loose all my work. I selected the rejected photos and then flagged
    them all with a 'yellow' color. I then displayed all photos with a yellow
    flag and 'Un-rejected' them. I highlighted a small amount of them, about 30,
    and rejected them and then went to the Delete Rejected photos. the pop-up
    came up and I was able to delete them. Since the rest of my yellow flagged
    photos were still showing I rejected another chunk of them and so on till
    they were all deleted. When trying to delete a group that had published
    photos within I got a box warning me that if I deleted them the published
    ones could no longer be managed by LR. That is alright with me. It would be
    nice if the software would somehow flag those that had been published. All
    the dialog box said was that one or more of the group had been published. I
    did not know which.
    Thanks again for expert help!

  • Problems with Delete Rejected Photos

    I hope this hasn't been addressed earlier. I checked as far back as I had patience.
    I recently upgraded to a new Vista 64bit system. LR 64bit seems to "Not Respond" after I use the "delete rejected photos". Both instances the photos were deleted but LR Library siezed. On the first occaision I deleted around 40 photos the secont time was 300+ photos. Any ideas or information welcome.
    Thanks

    I'm banging myself on the head, 11,400+ items, 39.2gb. I knew that, just forgot to think of it. Just copied/moved much data between four drives. Thanks

  • I'm getting an error message when I try to delete rejected photos!

    When I use the filter for selecting the flagged 'rejected' photos and press Cmd+delete, and then "delete from disk," as I have done many many times in the past, It is suddenly telling me that my files cannot be moved to the Trash folder. I just updated today from Lightroom 1.3 to 1.4.1, but this was happening over this past week, before the update. I'm on a MacBook Pro, using Leopard 10.5.2. Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

    I could delete a couple of images through finder, yes...and then they'd delete from Lightroom. The workaround I found is to create a subfolder containing the deleted images in Lightroom, and then delete that folder from the finder. It's not quite right, but it works for now. I wonder if the trouble has something to do with the location of the images? Not sure. I was able to delete some other images within Lightroom successfully, but I can't figure out yet what these have in common that are different! I'll keep working on it...

  • Can't 'Delete Rejected Photos' (since Lightroom 5.6?) - just removes from catalog, not disk

    I use Lightroom 5 (64-bit) on Windows. Recently (possibly since the 5.6 upgrade?) I can't delete rejected photos from the catalog. Instead of asking if I want to delete from the disk or just the catalog or cancel, like it used to, it now asks if I want to remove from the catalog or cancel. The files are left on disk. This happens if I Ctrl-Backspace or choose the Photo > Delete Rejected Photos menu.
    Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions please? My daughter borrows my camera so I delete a LOT of pictures - without this option I don't have a quick way to do that.
    - cheers, Barney

    I had a similar problem, and here is what I think is happening.
    It depends on how you are viewing your pictures.  If you are viewing a collection, Delete Rejected Photos will only remove them from the collection.  There is no prompt to remove the files from the hard drive.  Instead, you need to view the entire catalog (All Photographs).  This time when you selected Delete Rejected Photos, there is a prompt asking if you want to remove the files completely from hard disk.
    I have recently switched from Bridge to Lightroom, and I'm used to organizing and sorting my photos by directory.  This is another adjustment I need to make in my normal workflow.

  • Problem deleting multiple rejected photos in Lightroom 3

    I had some frustrating trouble deleting a set of rejected photos. I am running LR3 on Windows 7 64 bit.
    I flagged about 220 out of 600 photos as rejects in a folder. When I hit ctrl-backspace to delete them, the rejects were shown in the grid view but were not deleted. Nothing I could do would delete them, I tried all the workarounds I could find in the forum and tried everything else I could think of. I was able to delete them one at a time but not all at once.
    Then I tried deleting them in chunks... two at a time, three at a time - worked. Then I tried 30 or so - got a message that one or more of the photos had been published to flickr. I clicked OK to delete from Flickr, that was processed then I got the prompt to delete them - worked. Then I tried deleting the rest of the pictures - about 160 left at that point, worked fine.
    There seem to be quite a few people having trouble deleting rejected photos, maybe there is some kind of conflict between the publishing function and deleting rejects?

    With respect to problems deleting multiple keywords: On Windows, since at least version 3, LR has had basic bugs when you have more than about 1600 keywords showing.  (Hard to believe it isn't fixed by now.)   A simple workaround for you situation is to filter the keywords one letter at a time and then select the subset of keywords that are showing -- e.g. filter all keywords with the letter "t", then all keywords with the letter "b", etc.
    With respect to not getting the keywords into your catalog in the first place: You can define a Metadata Preset that will clear the keywords on import:

  • Trouble deleting rejected photos

    I am cleaning up an old catalogue and marked a number of photos for rejecting.  I get the following error message together with a scrollable list of the rejected photos:
    "the files are on a volume that does not support Trash, would you like to permanently delete them?"
    Nothing happened when I selected the permanently delete button.
    This was not consistent behavrior, one time the rejected photos were deleted on persisting.
    This is an old catalogue and the files are on a different internal drive from the cataloge, note that I DID move them within Lightroom and nothing seems wrong with the thumbnail, i.e. the correct path is displayed and there is no question mark, etc.
    Any suggestions or explanations are appreciated.  I really want to delete my subpar photos!

    Hello,
    no solution but a work around.
    Create a filter for all rejected images an move these images a different, drive / partion with a trashcan. Then remove the images.

  • Internal Error when trying to delete rejected photos

    This problem started yesterday after I moved some of my library to an external hard drive.  I created a new catalog and moved the photos within lightroom.  I don't know if the move of photos caused the error or not.  Now whenever I try to delete rejected photos, I get the following error message:
    Database "/Users/mollynordin/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat": PreviewDataObservers_DevSettingsDeletions.devSettingsDigest may not be NULL
      Statement: DELETE FROM Adobe_imageDevelopSettings WHERE id_local = ?;

    I cannot delete any photos even if they are not rejected.

  • Why are my rejected photos still visible after I delete them?

    I am not an advanced LR user by any means, so I'm hoping I can get some insight here. When I go through my photos, I first reject them. I take a look at all of my rejected ones, then I select the "delete rejected photos" option and then "remove from disk."
    When I go to my "All Photographs" collection, I can still see all of my rejected photos, except they are grayed out. Why is this? I don't want to see them anymore, I'd like them to be gone forever!
    Any help you can give would be great. Thank you!

    I think we will need some more information.
    What do you mean by "All Photographs" collection?
    Is it a regular collection?
    Is it a smart collection?
    When you created the collection did you choose to create virtual copies?

  • How can  I get rejected photos out of LR5 and off the HD?

    When I try to deleted rejected photos in LR5 on my iMac, I get a dialog saying they can't be sent to the trash.  How can I get unwanted photos out of LR5 and off the hard drive?

    Instead of hitting just the delete key, you need to hit ⌘+Del and one of the choices will be to remove from hard drive.

  • No Export of Rejected Photos

    Hi peeps,
    When editing a shoot, I CTRL+[arrow down] the rubbish pics to set them as rejected. The plan is to delete them before "selecting ALL" in the shoot and exporting.
    Trouble is I'm always forgetting to delete the rejects before exporting ( ARRGHH!).  So I've just written a small plugin that adds a filter to the Export Dialog which when enabled prevents any photo that is set as rejected from beign exported. Hurrah!!!  Here's the code. Feel free to use if it's useful!
    info.lua
    return {
        appName = "NoExportRejected",
        author = "Buzz Aldrin",
        LrSdkVersion = 4.0,

        LrPluginName = LOC "$$$/SDK/MetaExportFilter/Sample=No Export Rejected",
        LrToolkitIdentifier = 'com.adobe.lightroom.sdk.export.norejected',
        LrExportFilterProvider = {
            title = LOC "$$$/SDK/MetaExportFilter/Sample=Don't Export Rejected", -- the string that appears in the export filter section of the export dialog in LR
            file = 'NoRejectedOnExport.lua', -- name of the file containing the filter definition script
            id = "noRejected",  -- unique identifier for export filter
        VERSION = { major=4, minor=1, revision=0, build=831116, },
    NoRejectedOnExport.lua
    local LrView = import 'LrView'
    local bind = LrView.bind
    -- This function will create the section displayed on the export dialog
    -- when this filter is added to the export session.
    local function sectionForFilterInDialog( f, propertyTable )
        return {
            title = LOC "$$$/SDK/MetaExportFilter/SectionTitle=Don't Export Rejected Photos",
                f:row {
                    spacing = f:control_spacing(),
                    f:static_text {
                        title = "Don't Export Rejected Photos",
                        fill_horizontal = 1,
    end
    -- This function obtains access to the photos and removes entries that don't match the metadata filter.
    local function shouldRenderPhoto( exportSettings, photo )
        local shouldRender
        local flag = photo:getRawMetadata( 'pickStatus' )
        if flag == -1 then
            shouldRender = false
        else
            shouldRender = true
        end
        return shouldRender
    end
    return {
        exportPresetFields = exportPresetFields,
        startDialog = startDialog,
        sectionForFilterInDialog = sectionForFilterInDialog,
        shouldRenderPhoto = shouldRenderPhoto,

  • Photos deleted from iPhoto, but still in Library folder

    iPhoto 9.5.1
    Strange behavior in iPhoto : let's say I imported 100 photos. Then, in iPhoto, deleted 80, keeping 20. Emptied trash in iPhoto. Then emptied Trash in Finder.
    Let's say the "_DSC1234.JPG" photo was among deleted files. When searching "_DSC1234.JPG" in Spotlight, I find it in the "Master" folder of the "iPhoto Library" folder (Photothèque in French).
    I've got a lot of photos deleted, but kept in Library, Not good for privacy, not good for hard drive space.
    For exemple, I find 514 ".NEF" photos in the iPhoto searchbox. But when searching in the iPhoto LIbrary folder with Spotlight for files with ".NEF" in their names, I find 1048 ! No duplicates, no previews or "faces" (hey are in JPEG), but photos I deleted, before emptying iPhoto and Finder trash !!
    Rebuilding Library didn't help.
    I'm using a user account not allowed to administrate the computer. Maybe a link ?
    The question was already asked, but never answered :
    Growing iPhoto Library, deleted photos still in folders
    Deleted Photos:  Why are they still in my iphoto library folder?
    Photos deleted from within iPhoto are still in Library folder
    Thanks for your help !

    Strange behavior again, with the original library : If I select NO event and use the menu Information, I've got 14.634 photos. If I select all events, I've got 15.760 photos. How can I have more photos in all events than in my Library ??????
    Check, if you have hidden photos.
    File > New Smart Album,  with a rule: Photo is hidden
    In my iPhoto Library the "Hidden" flag accounts for the difference in the Photos count between selecting all events and no events.
    Make sure, "View > Hidden Photos" is enabled in the View menu, so you can recognize hidden photos by the X.

  • How do I reject or delete "Soft fail" emails?

    Getting spam messages which are spoofing our own internal email domain.  Exchange is aware of this and marks the message as a Soft Fail.  But how do I stop the message from being delivered into the mailbox?
    As I understand Sender ID filtering will only block messages which fail, and this doesn't include Soft Fail.
    Thanks

    Hi Mike,
    Please refer to following article:
    http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2005/10/13/412487.aspx
    From the article, the Soft Fail (~) means Client might not be authorized to send mail on behalf of the domain from a matching IP address. The Sender ID actions in Exchange 2003 SP2 is to Stamp and Continue. Therefore, the message will not be rejected or deleted based on you configuration.
    I would like to explain that the Soft Fail/Fail/NEUTRAL which described in previous article is generated based on the SPF record which you registered on the DNS Server.
    If you generated SPF record by using following site, you will receive follow options:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/safety/content/technologies/senderid/wizard/
    Option 1(+): Yes; mail may legitimately originate from IP addresses not identified above.
    Option 2(?): Neutral; this domain makes no statement about whether mail may legitimately originate from IP addresses not identified above.
    Option 3(-): No; this domain sends mail only from the IP addresses identified above.
    Option 4(~): Discouraged; mail may legitimately originate from IP addresses not identified above, however, use of such IP addresses is discouraged and may not be permitted in the future.
    If you select the Option 4 when generating SPF record, the Soft Fail (~) will be generated even if the message is received from an IP Address which is listed in SPF record.
    Therefore, in order to solve the issue, I suggest you update your SPF record on public DNS server by selecting Option No; this domain sends mail only from the IP addresses identified above.

  • How can you restore photos deleted from iphone

    Is there a way to restore photos deleted by accident from an iPhone?

    Not unless you synched/backed up your phone with those photos already on there.  In this case you can restore your phone from that backup.
    Otherwise, they're gone.

    if I erased my iphone on icloud are my photos deleted?

    If you remotely erased your phone using Find My iPhone, everything on the phone is deleted.  If you backed up your phone on iCloud, your camera roll photos would still be contained in the backup and could be recovered by restoring the backup to another iPhone.  Photo stream photos from the last 30 days could also be recovered by signing into your iCloud account and enabling photo stream on a compatible iOS device or computer.
