Relativley simple jsp problem

I'm working in a small project and part of it is when a user registers,
there details are checked for errors (eg null value). If there is an error
it should appear on screen if there is not it should forward to
a confirmation page from the register page. A simple example of the code
on both pages appears below. At the moment it is not working. I would appreciate
any help
JSP #1: exampleregister.jsp
form name="form1" method="post" action="/exampleregister.jsp">
<p>USERNAME:
<input type="text" name="username">
<p>AGE:
<input type="text" name="age">
<p>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit">
</form>
<p>
<%if (request.getParameter("submit") != null) { %>
<% if (request.getParameter("username") == null) {%>
<br>must show user name
<% if (request.getParameter("age") == null) {%>
<br> must show age
<%}else{%>
     <jsp:forward page="/exampleconfirm.jsp" />
<% } %>
<% } %>
<% } %>
<p>
JSP #2: exampleconfirm.jsp
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000">
Details entered =
<form name="form1" method="post" action="">
<p>Username:
<input type="text" name="username" value="<%=request.getParameter("username")%>">
</p>
<p>Age:
<input type="text" name="age" value="<%=request.getParameter("age")%>">
</p>
<p>
<input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Submit">
</p>
</form>
Anybody any ideas where I'm going wrong??

Hi,
Try replacing exampleregister.jsp with this code:
<form name="form1" method="post" action="/exampleregister.jsp">
<p>USERNAME:
<input type="text" name="username" value="<%=request.getParameter("submit")==null?"":request.getParameter("username")%>">
<p>AGE:
<input type="text" name="age" value="<%=request.getParameter("submit")==null?"":request.getParameter("age")%>">
<p>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit">
</form>
<p>
<%
boolean doForward = true;
if (request.getParameter("submit") != null) { %>
<% if (request.getParameter("username").length() == 0) {%>
<br>must show user name
<% doForward = false;}
if (request.getParameter("age").length() == 0) {
     doForward = false;
     %><br> must show age<%
else doForward = false;
if (doForward){%>
<jsp:forward page="/exampleconfirm.jsp" />
<%}%>
<p>
Hope this helps,
Kurt.

  • Problems with compilation of a Simple JSP

    Hello!
    This is a typical newbie problem with starting off on JDeveloper 3.0 (JDK 1.1.8) and Oracle 8i (8.1.1). When I create a simple JSP (The "Hello World" Jsp given in the File | New | Web Objects option) and try to run it - it gives me the following error :
    java.io.IOException CreateProcess : cmd.exe /C start "" "C:\PROGRAM FILES\ORACLE\JDEVELOPER 3.0\myprojects\WebAppRunner.html" error = 0
    Obviously the JSP does not run.
    Any pointers about what might be wrong?

    The above error message is likely due
    to JDeveloper looking for the NT command
    interpreter named CMD.EXE .
    I was able to run servlets with JDeveloper
    and Windows 98 by copying COMMAND.COM to
    C:\CMD.EXE, which was much easier to do
    than putting a new OS on my machine.

  • Simple JSP example problems

    Hello, I am new to JSP and I was wondering if I could get some help from some people that know what they are doing. I'm trying to run a simple JSP example that I got out of a book. But I've modified it a bit to just play around with it. But it doesn't want to run. I'm starting to think it's something wrong with the way I'm building/installing the stuff. I'm running IBM WebSphere 4 and JBuilder 8. I was just wondering if you could look at my code just to make sure I'm doing this right.
    It's a pretty simple example. A JSP calls a class to get a message to print out.
    Here's the code for the class: (HelloWorld.java)
    package helloworld;
    public class HelloWorld
    private String message = "No message specified";
    public String getMessage()
    return(message);
    public void setMessage(String message)
    this.message = message;
    =================================================================
    Here's the code for the JSP: (HelloWorld.jsp)
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Using JavaBeans with JSP</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <jsp:useBean id="helloWorld" class = "helloworld.HelloWorld" />
    <ol>
    <li>Initial Value (JSP Expression):
    <%= helloWorld.getMessage() %></li>
    <li><jsp:setProperty name="helloWorld"
    property="message"
    value="Hello World" />
    Value after setting property with setProperty:
    <jsp:getProperty name="helloWorld"
    property="message" /></li>
    </ol>
    </body>
    </html>
    I just wanted to be able to test out a JSP hitting a class file. Does someone have a better/easier way to do this? Or do you see anything wrong with my example? Thanks in advance.

    The 1 thing missing in your example is the import directive for the helloworld.HelloWorld class.
    Add the following line somewhere around the start of your jsp and things should be fine
    <%@ page import="helloworld.HelloWorld" %>
    Cheers

  • Include JSP problem

    Hi All,
    I am trying to include a JSP in another JSP to work around as JDev does not support working with large JSP file (approx 1100 Lines),
    My problem is I did include a simple JSP for try and getting this error
    500 Internal Server Error
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException     at com.sun.faces.taglib.jsf_core.ViewTag.doStartTag(ViewTag.java:137)     at neit.SimpleInclTest._jspService(_SimpleInclTest.java:74)     [neit/SimpleInclTest.jsp]     at com.orionserver[Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3.3.0) ].http.OrionHttpJspPage.service(OrionHttpJspPage.java:59)     at oracle.jsp.runtimev2.JspPageTable.service(JspPageTable.java:462)     at oracle.jsp.runtimev2.JspServlet.internalService(JspServlet.java:594)
    And here is how I include my JSP
    <af:showDetailItem text="Sector">
    <f:subview id="myInclTest">
    <jsp:include page="/neit/SimpleInclTest.jsp" flush="true"/>
    </f:subview>
    </af:showDetailItem>
    Any clue ? why I am not able to include even a simple JSP ?
    Thanks in Advance

    So glad that you managed to find the solution.
    But please pay attention that if the main page has a h:form component and the included pages have that component too, then their functionality may fail. And another thing you have to pay attention to is the bindings.
    Anyway, if you need any further more info, please, feel free.

  • How to execute a simple JSP application in Oracle 9iAs WE?

    Hi,
    How to execute a simple JSP application in Oracle 9iAs WE?
    Thanks
    Anupama

    Please "Preview" your future posts. Your formatting is awful. Especially learn to use the [ code ] tags.
    Are you sure DateTime.Now.ToString() returns a string in the format of 'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS.FF3'?
    Fix that and if you still having the problems, debug the actual result of your string.Format() and post that.

  • How do you invoke a simple jsp

    hi,
    i have a very simple jsp that displays the current time. it works on my tomcat server (installed on my computer). i purchased a domain from yahoo, say, www.beginer.com and uploaded the jsp file to the yahoo server. but when i referenced it with the url www.beginer.com/MyJSP.jsp, a download dialog popped up.
    so, how do you get the browser to display the dynamic contents of the jsp file?
    thanks.

    Did you ask Yahoo whether their server supports servlets and JSPs? Or did you just assume that? I would expect that it doesn't.

  • Real simple xslt problem/question

    Hi, i have a real simple xslt problem but i just cant figure out how to do it by looking at various examples on the net. i have a xml document and in it are some elements with a "result" tag name. i want to use xslt to reproduce exactly the same xml document except with an attribute called "id" added to those elements with a "result" tag name. i'm sure that theres a simple solution to it but i just cant figure it out. any helps greatly appreciated, thanks

    Start with the XSLT identity transform (I don't have it handy and it's fairly long, but you should be able to google it up). Add this:<xsl:template match="result">
      <result id="">
        <xsl:apply-templates>
      </result>
    </xsl:template>

  • JDeveloper IDE simple setting problem

    Hi,
    Recently we switched to JDeveloper from Visual Cafe .I have a simple setting problem.How can I set the options so that IDE gives, the core java classes and packages,and our application classes and packeges, prompts in imports as well as in code.Where to set the options.

    I am not sure I understand what you are requesting, but ...
    You can configure JDeveloper projects to include various libraries by default.
    This is done by selecting menu Tools | Default Project Properties.../ Libraries tab.
    You should define a library for your classes.
    You can import any of the packages / classes from all the libraries which your project includes.
    It would be incorrect for a tool to automatically add a bunch of import lines at the top of every file because each file should import what it needs and just as importantly, not import what it does not need depending on the component type (e.g. a servlet should not include javax.swing.* ).
    An easy way to import elements into JDeveloper is to type in something like:
    import java.
    // and then type in Ctrl Space
    and this launches the package browser, you can select packages or classes to import.
    You can also do this at the variable declaratiton point such as typing in:
    foo() {
    Frame x
    // Press Control Alt Space
    and this will correctly change the type (Frame) to the type you select in the package browser and add the import statement.

  • How do I expand my simple JSP page to implement Connection Pooling?

    Hi everyone,
    I have a small SQL database which contains information about Students and a StudenBean which contains their attributes and appropriate get/set methods (which I haven't needed to use yet).
    I want to write a simple JSP page which displays all the students details in one big table. I can do this using the basic prototyping method of adding the dataSource and driver details to the deployment descriptor (web.xml - I'm using the latest version of Tomcat by the way) and then accessing the database using JSP standard SQL actions.
    Here's a snipet of what I've done (just an example, the final code works):
    <sql:query var="temp"
    sql="SELECT * FROM Employee ORDER BY UserName"
    />
    <c:forEach items="${temp.rows}" var="row">
    <td><c:out value ="${row.UserName}"/></td>
    <td><c:out value ="${row.FirstName}"/></td>
    <td><c:out value ="${row.LastName}"/></td>
    Now I want to upgrade! I want to access the dataSource using Connection Pooling and it's causing me a lot of trouble. I already have the required working classes/data such as ConnectionPool.java, ResourceManagerListener.java, the MySQL driver etc.
    However, I don't know what the best way to setup the connection for my purposes would be and where I should do it.
    Do I need to write a servlet or tag handler/custom action to establish the connection and access my bean through it? I would like to keep a similar sort of business logic as I already have developed i.e. be able to use actions in my JSP page to cycle through the database and print out each detail from the row.
    Rather confused and muddled. Thanks for any input!

    Good idea.
    Set up a JNDI data source for your app, according to these docs:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
    You'll have to put the right information into your web.xml and a context.xml. Once you've done that, your JSTL JSPs will simply use the connection resource automagically.

  • Help regarding a simple JSP file and servlet file

    Hi all,
    I am trying to develop a web based application using Tomca 5.0.16.I wanted to get to know how a simple jsp page could access a servlet.It would be really very beneficial if if any one can give me a sample code that does the interactions,I could run it and understand it,would help me for further development.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    AS

    I think it depends on how you want to access the servlet.
    You can forward or redirect from the JSP page to the servlet, thus making it like you went to the servlet directly from the browser (except of course, before the forward or redirect, some stuff can be done).
    You can use URLConnection objects to call the servlet, much like the browser does.
    It depends on what you are trying to do.

  • Simple OOP Problem. Help!

    This is just a simple OOP problem that i cant decide on a best
    implementation for.
    im passing an object to an instance of, 'TabbedFrame', which is just
    a frame with a Tabbed Pane in it that is holding custom panels.
    however, these custom panels need access to the object being
    passed to 'TabbedFrame' and to some methods in it.
    i cant make them static however so how do i gain access to them?
    is my only option to pass the 'TabbedFrame' to each panel?
    like - jtabbedpane.add( "Panel 1", new mypanel1(this));
    here is code:
    new TabbedFrame( DataObject );
    public class TabbedFrame{
    public TabbedFrame(DataObject do){
    this.do = do;
    jtabbedpane.add( "Panel 1", new mypanel1() );
    DataObject do;
    public class mypanel1{
    public mypanel1(){
    // need access to DataObject of the 'TabbedFrame' object that instantiated
    // this 'mypanel1' and to some of its methods
    }i would just pass the DataObject to evey panel (there are 12) but
    i also need to be able to call methods in the 'TabbedFrame'.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Modify mypanel1's constructor:
    public class mypanel1{
    TabbedFrame tf;
    public mypanel1(TabbedFrame tf){
    this.tf = tf;
    // need access to DataObject of the 'TabbedFrame' object that instantiated
    // this 'mypanel1' and to some of its methods
    DataObject theDo = tf.getDataObject();
    tf.someMethod(); // Call method on the TabbedFrame
    }In TabbedFrame:
    public TabbedFrame(DataObject do){
    this.do = do;
