Releasing Paths to layers.

I currently have aproximately 100 paths in a single layer. I would like to release them to sepparate layers in a sequential order for an after effects project. I can't seem to get it to work, all that happens is it makes one more layer at the bottom of my stack with a seemlingly random object inside.
Any suggestions?

Sorry, I realize I was quite vague. I guess to simplify the question, how does one release multiple paths to their own individual layer?
Here is a screen shot.
When I click release to layers sequence, nothing happens. I don't get it.

  • Transforming paths and layers together? Hopefully someday...

This is on my wish list for the next Photoshop version: One day, I would like to have the ability to transform a group of layers and a path together - at once. There is no other frustration than to create a very complex clipping path only to zoom out and realize that the bottom of the object in question needs to be skewed slightly. You know once you do that, that you will have to recreate the complete path again as you will never be able to match the skew exactly on the layers and then again on the path. Sigh....

Click on the path, then Layer>Vector Mask>Current Path. You'll see a Vector Mask appear on your layer. Now, when resize or rotate the layer the path will do the same.

  • Moving paths between layers in CS6

I use paths a lot. Shape layers, vector masks, etc.
In previous versions of Photoshop, I could simply drag vector masks from one layer to another, just like other layer masks. Now (with CS6) I have to do a convoluted copy an paste, switching back and forth between the layers panel and the paths panel.
Is there an easier way to do this?

To move vector mask from Shape to Shape, hold down Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) and drag Shape thumbnail onto other Shape thumbnail.
To copy vector mask from Shape to Shape, hold down Opt+Cmd (Alt+Ctrl on Windows) and drag Shape thumbnail onto other Shape thumbnail.
    Edit: I type too slowly

  • Moving paths in layers

    Hello,
    Could someone perhaps help?
I have selected paths on the artboard and would like to be able to move them into one layer.
As there are a large number is there anyway of moving them to a new layer without selecting them (blue highlighting) and moving them?
They are selected on the artboard so the colour square appears next to them in the layers panel but I can't move them to a new layer without selecting them (even using ctrl or shift is still quite time consuming),
    Kind regards,
    Suzie

    Have your new Layer ready.
    Select the paths.
In the Layers panel, drag the (blue) square to the new layer.
That’s about as quick as it gets.
You can also drag sub-layers into other layers (without selecting them) using the Layers panel, but if you have a lot of objects it can be confusing seeing what is what.
    The other way is better.

  • Basics of Clipping paths and layers

Hi, I'm not that experienced in working in Illustrator. I have CS4 and I'm trying to create a simple clipping path around some stars that I created so I can place them on top of other pictures and colors in an InDesign document.  I'm totally lost and can't get it right--I know it is the "basics."

Easier: if not 4toshop try the Blendings  in the opacity like mutiply overlay and staff
    the only way

  • Attach paths to layers?

I don't know what to really call it, but here it goes.
When I create a shape with one of the shape tools, it masks it or whatever you call it when a path. And where ever I move the shape, the path goes. But when I just make a path and fill that path, the path isn't attached. So how do I "attach" the path to the layer, so when I want to resize the shape, it wont lose quality.

  • Unable to Create Website using "Create Web Site" action component in Release Management

    Hi Team,
I am trying to use Release Management to Deploy my Website along with DB in staging servers.
I have set-up 2 Staging Servers SIT & UAT Both 2012 Servers with IIS 8.5 Configured.
Defined Release Path and Release template.
Deployment Sequence is something like this :
Deployment Sequence - Server Name - Create Folder - XCopy - Create Website - Configure Website
Build is successful, drops the output to Output folder and RM gets initiated with it's work.
It creates folders as mentioned in the "Create Folder" activity.
It copies the whole content from _PublishedWebsites to the mentioned location.
It gets stuck with the "Create Website" step.
Initially I have provided details as follows :
    AppPoolName
    IsPreloadEnabled
    IsAutoStart
    SiteName FabrikamSIT
    PortNumber 80
    PhysicalPath c:\FabrikamRM\WebSite\SIT
    Later, I tried providing
    AppPoolName DefaultAppPool
    IsPreloadEnabled 1
    IsAutoStart 1
    SiteName FabrikamSIT
    PortNumber 80
    PhysicalPath c:\FabrikamRM\WebSite\SIT
    Then also no luck.
Deployment gets rejected and the error that you can see when you hover the mouse is :
Task failed with the exit code -2146232576".
No much info available with this eror code in net also.
Any help in getting this simple site created is highly appreciated.
    Thanking you in advance,

    TFS Queries

    Hi,
For the deployment sequence, you might need add the action of "create application pool" before creating a website.
Another method is check whether the build output can be deployed manually. If yes, then you can trobleshoot the problem in your deployment sequence and parameters. You can create the website manually and deploy your build output to the website. If you have
any other concerns about the deployment, you can also open a new thread in IIS forum for a better response.
If the issue persists, please elaborate more details about your scenario with sceenshots.

  • How to Mask Multiple Paths?

I need to apply a single gradient mask to two or more path
layers (which are filled with a color) but I don't see an easy way.
In Photoshop you can apply a layer mask to a folder but that
    doesn't work in FW.
I tried grouping the two path layers and applying the mask.
That works but if I want to edit the paths later I have to ungroup
everything and then I lose my mask. How to put it all back together
again without actually redoing the mask eludes me.
Is there an easy way to apply a gradient mask to two or more
    path/vector layers?

I can't work out if my target machine (2008 R2 SP1) has a problem with WMA 3.0 or if the Release Template can't find the powershell script that I'm trying to call.  I figured that the relative path to the script could be wrong and have tried numerous
iterations to no effect.  The error clearly points to a problem with WMA right?
The target machine has .Net Framework 4.0, WMA Framework 3.0 and I can run Enter-PSSession to remote to it etc...
Before I trash and rebuild my target machine I hoping someone may have some insight to my problem?
    Thanks in Advance

    Daniel,
The PS Script is taken from an MSDN blog and is fairly standard.  I'm sure it will run fine when executed, but I've not run it as it requires environment variables ($applicationPath) that will be present in the Release Management session calling it.
    Here's the script :-
    configuration InstallModules
        param
            # Target nodes to apply the configuration
            [string[]]$NodeName = 'localhost',
            # Source Path for Modules
            [String]$SourcePath = "$applicationPath\Deploy\Modules",
            # Destination path for Modules
            [String]$DestinationPath = "$env:ProgramFiles\WindowsPowershell\Modules"
        Node $NodeName
            # Copy the Modules
            File ModuleContent
                Ensure          = "Present"
                SourcePath      = $SourcePath
                DestinationPath = $DestinationPath
                Recurse         = $true
                Type            = "Directory"
    InstallModules
    Thanks

  • TFS Group not updating in Release Manager

I have a bunch of release paths and plans tied to a development group with security for those plans defined by TFS Groups managed by the development team.  They recently had a new hire start and added him to their TFS groups but the developer can't
access their release plans in Release Manager.  I checked the groups he was added to in TFS in Release Manager and they don't have him listed. I verified that the developer is a member of those TFS Groups via the team's project site.   I can't delete
the group and re-add it since it is part of multiple release paths and plans so, short of detaching the group from TFS and adding the user in Release Manager, I can't find a way to get the group to update in Release Manager.  Any ideas?

    Hi Coding4ever,
    Thanks for your reply.
I reproduced this scenario in my RM 2013 Update 4 Client, and received the same result. For this issue, you can try this workaround: open that TFS group in RM Client, click
Detach From TFS button, then click Delete button delete this TFS group from RM Client, then click
New>>New From TFS to re-add this TFS group into your RM Client.
For this TFS group updated users not show in RM Client issue,  please
submit it to Microsoft Connect Feedback portal at: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio. Microsoft engineers will evaluate them seriously.

  • Getting consistent PSD exports of layers

Any tips for managing my Illustrator layers so I get consistent PSD exports?
Opening an Illustrator-created PSD gives me a lot of layers named <path>, single text layers in <group> folders, and some layers that have combined several layers named: <text> + <path> + <path> + <path> + <path>.
How can I make sure that single text layers aren't in <Groups> folders and that objects aren't combined into <path> + <path> + <path> + <path> single layers?

Not using any opacity. No clipping masks. No blending modes. No pathfinder, Live Paint, or symbols.
As an AE user, Mylesnium, I'm sure you can appreciate keeping elements modularly grouped. My usual workflow is to export from Illustrator to PSD, then import the PSD into AE as a comp. It allows text to become editable and PSD folders become AE Precomps. There's no way to do such things with a direct Illustator to AE import. (Text cannot become live and AE only interprets Illustrator's Top Layer as a layer so any sub-layer groupings get lost).
I think the biggest gotcha is something I just read, "Any layer with more than 5 sub-layers will be flattened"  UGH!

  • Release Management - How to bring testing calls in the Release Pipeline

    Dear Team
I had set up a new application release path using RM Client. The release pipeline contains deploying a new web site with IIS.
Using the release template - able to trigger build and deployment happens.
Question #1. In the Build log, the Quality tag is NOT assigned? What is the procedure to assign a quality tag?
In the deployment in QA Environment - launch also testing done - call automated tests from VSTS Coded UI like smoke suite, functional suite for execution and share results
Question #2: Is there any existing services call available or new component need to be developed.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi VikramGopu,
I'd like to know the TFS version you're using. For your questions, please check the replies as below:
    1. Build quality will not be assigned to a build result unless you choose the values manually. To get the TFS build result assigned a build quality, you can check the links below for more information:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/030a9cc7-4c91-4132-a9fa-0fbcf119218d/tfs2010-team-build-automatically-update-build-quality?forum=tfsbuild
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19730128/tfs2010-automatically-set-build-quality
    2. You can run the coded UI test by using Visual Studio locally or Microsoft Test Manager. If you want to run coded UI test in TFS build, you have to run the build service interactively. To run test duing the build/deployment process, you
can use command tools in Release Management to call mstest to run the tests. Whether you need to create a new component depends on your requirements. You can also refer to this
blog about run tests with Release Management.

  • Release Management questions

    Hi all,
I've been looking at Visual Studio Release Management and on the whole, I think it's good, but I have a few issues that someone here may have already worked around.
Can I send an email to a group of users once the deployment is complete that includes custom text
including details about the build (e.g. build number)?
Is it possible to skip stages? We have 4 Development environments, but may not always want to deploy to all of them before moving onto Test
Our builds create 4 different sets of output - one for each environment (DEVT, TEST, STAG and PROD). Each of these is in a separate folder. Do I have to define separate components for each of these and specify the build number of each of them when triggering
a release? One of our apps has 7 different components and if I have to enter the build number 7x4 times it is going to take a while!
How can I run a script against a database that is not in a fixed location - e.g. c:\buildoutput\app\1.2.3 (4.5.6.7)\scripts\scripttorun.sql if the folder that contains the build output is different for every build (i.e. the version number changes)
Easy questions to answer I'm sure, but any help will be appreciated :)

    Hi Mark
If you are planning on going for RM 'all in', in my experience it's probably best to be prepared to ditch what you already have in terms of deployment artefacts and start again so it works best with RM. This isn't as bad as it sounds. My thoughts as follows:
As far as I can see RM doesn't have a role in deploying to desktop clients as it's not designed for that.
My preference is to xcopy stuff where possible. If there are problems xcopy feels like it's going to be the easiest to debug.
You want to define one build definition that results in each of your deployables in 9 separate folders (I'm assuming the client is now out of scope here) as files you can xcopy with a tokenisation story in place for each deployable. (Different
story for web apps and services.)
You define your environments via Configure Paths > Environments
You link your environments / stages in a chain / pipeline via Configure Paths > Agent-based Release Paths (assuming you are not using DSC)
You create 9 components for each of your deployables. You don't worry about the build version as RM dynamically supplies this but you do specify the 'Path to package' eg \WebApp1Folder\_PublishedWebsites\WebAppName. The component will also
    deal with tokenisation.
The components are used in the Agent-based Release Template which is based on the Agent-based Release Path specified earlier. Your 9 components will be used at each stage. The 'Path to package' will always be the same but the config will change as
required for each stage. There is no need to specify a parameter for the environment since you will reuse the component in each environment.
Your DEVT / virtual garages problem sounds like it needs some thought. Is DEVT part of the deployment pipeline ie is it a critical part of the route to live? If not then you will want to treat them separately.
Hope all this makes sense. At my work we are implementing continuous delivery on existing applications and it's 50 times harder than creating a demo pipeline.
Very happy to be helping by the way - other people's problems are a great source of possible blog posts :).
    Cheers - Graham

  • Possible to make a guide into a mask or selection?

Is this possible? I want to use a guide made from an object, as a cookie cutter for an image that I've placed under it. thanks!

    Thanks,
This actually worked to crop the OUTSIDE of my circle, but for some reason the hole in the middle of this circle was never masked
When working with more than one guide/ path, I keep bumping into a few rules.
I think if I can get this, I'll start to understand how to separate my layers better.
"The selection cannot contain objects within different groups unless the entire group is selected."
I get this message even when I select "entire groups"
"Can't make the selection into guides. Guides cannot be created or released within the selected object types."
Well, I wasn't trying to create guide, actually. (lol)
So my real question is, where can I find an advanced tutorial that focuses specifically on layer order/simplification, as opposed to just creating some nice Illustrator image?
I seem to be inadvertently creating a surplus of extra paths and layers and groups that I don't even need, (i can prove it by throwing them out) lol!
