Reliable alternative to iphone calendar / notes

simply put: I want a reliable notepad / text recorder on the iphone (at least while I don't give it up for a nexus).
since I don't really like relying on pay services such as "remember the milk" for many reasons I actually decided to give up notepad apps and use calendar. it was simple, it was right there, it could sync over the air and on sync, everything gets easily organized by dates as I like, and it's easy to search for them. only thing missing is tags. but it was great in every other aspect!
anyway, the worst thing then happened on my last trip to new zealand (by the way, pay attention to time zones if you ever want to change them... it can make a big mess on the events). internet ***** in there. 100 mb / month simply isn't enough and I had to turn airplane mode for several days. meanwhile I was happily updating my calendar offline, which is set to sync with google. 5 days later worth of notes, I open it up one day and everything is gone for good. I've read many cases in these forums of people losing it, but never on this offline situation. I also have no mobile me or intentions of paying $100 for it.
the main reason why I take notes like this is that I just can't remember them all that well, and I never thought this could happen like that from such a basic apple product and which should be dealt with the most important relevance.
I get over it, but I don't want to it to happen again. ever. I do my backups, I have a TM well set which already saved my *** from similar software bugs (actually iCal also made my events disappear before now that I think about it), but on this rare situation in which I was relying in iphone software alone to just work (5 days with no internet and no sync to my desktop / laptop), it didn't. I definitely don't trust it anymore and now I need a reliable alternative. *or maybe a reliable configuration.*
as far as my experience goes, iphone native apps can't be replaced by app store. plus there are way too many apps for me to just go and try each one.
so, anyone have a good experience to share in this sense?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

  • IPhone Calendar not syncing correctly with iCal since Lion-install

Since installing Lion, the calendar on my iPhone is not syncing correctly:
Events created on my iPhone don't show on my Mac
Events edited on my iPhone don't change on my Mac
Events that I created in iCal on my Mac, for test-purposes, and then deleted immediately, show up on the iPhone when syncing.
    Syncing through iTunes (not MobileMe).
Using WeekCal on my iPone, but it seems that the same is the case with the "original" calendar-app.
No similar experience prior to Lion-install.
iPhone is iOS 4.3.4 -up to date
Any ideas? Does anybody know how to reset the sync, for instance?

Hi, my name is Lucas, i'm an Apple Certified Technitian.
Last couple of weeks i've installed OSX Lion in a few Macs.
But one of them drove me crazy!
I have a Late 2007 White Macbook and i installed OSX Lion last week. I also have an iPhone 4 (Factory Unlocked) that i also updated to IOS 4.3.5 ... no problems syncing between them
Then i did the same with a 13'' Unibody MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4 (not unlocked)... no problems neither
Yesterday i installed Lion on a Mid2010 15" MacBook Pro and updated another iPhone 4 (Factory Unlocked) to IOS 4.3.5 and when i tried to sync the iphone with iTunes 10.4 nothing happened.
I mean, nothing.. the iTunes started syncing and when it gets to sync the calendars it stayied there forever.
I left it for hours and nothing.
As i said i'm an ACT so i tried everything.
1- Remove Calendars from iPhone and syncing again
    1- Repair Permittions
    2- Reinstall iTunes
3- Reset iTunes and iCal Preferences and Caches
4- Backup iCal - erase ical content and generate a new iCal database
5- Reset Syncing Prefs and logs
6- Use DiskWarrior from an external OSX
    7- Reset PRAM
    Nothing worked.
I thought it could be some conflict with Microsoft Outlook and/or Exchange server since this Mac is the only one of the three macs i installed that uses Outlook Sync and Exchange server and it's the only one that gave me trouble.
But disableing it didn't worked neither.
    THE SOLUTION
I Already solved this thing out. But i still don't understand the logic of all this... anyway, what y did is this:
1- turn off microsoft outlook sync with iCal (from outlook preferences)
2- Backed up iCals (Just in case)
3- Create a new Calendar Category (by default you have Work and Home... i created one called Test)
4- i Created a new task at that calendar
5- In iTunes uncheck the "Sync iCal" box and sync the iPhone
6- Check th "Sync iCal" box, then check the "sync the selected calendars" box
7- Check the "Test" calendar and sync the iPhone.
This worked so i started creating task in this Test Calendar both in iphone and mac, just to test it, Worked fine.
Then i selected all the other calendars (Home - Work - etc) and i turned on the outlook sync
Then i synced the iPhone and Voilà everything is working again.
Now i can create task in outlook calendar and when y sync the iphone it appears on it.
I don't know what the problem is... but this looks like the solution
    HOpe it works for you!

  • IPhone calendars not showing up in icloud

My iphone calendars are not showing up in iCloud.  All of my calendar data is on my iPhone. I have turned on iCloud on my phone and checked "Calendar."  I am using the same Apple ID on my phone as I am using for iCloud.  I can see how to add calendars on the iCloud service, but if I add a calendar in iCloud with the same calendar name as the calendars that are on my iphone ,they are not showing up on iCloud.  "Push" is turned to on but I can see that is pushing from the server to my iPhone and not from my iPhone to the iCloud.  What could I be doing wrong?

Check if the calendars on your phone are on your phone or on iCloud, iCloud won't sync calendars that are just on your phone.

  • Leopard, iPhone, calendars  not syncing

I get this error message on both my desktop and my laptop:
"iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone "iPhone" because an error occurred while merging data."
As of right now only my iPhone has my current calendars, so I can't overwrite the iPhone calendar. If anything I need to overwrite the Mac's calendar.
Message was edited by: W. Robert Newberry

I have been having some weird things happening with iSync since upgrading to Leopard on a couple of my Macs. First of all when I try to sync the iPhone now I get a message saying that " iTunes could not sync mail accounts to the iPhone because an error occurred remapping record identifiers" A long call to iPhone support left them baffled too and the problem unresolved. This never happened in Tiger since getting the iPhone back in July, all syncs went just fine. Apple's "solution" right now is to have me turn off syncing the Mail accounts to the iPhone. That doesn't seem right because any account changes now have to be put into the Mac/s and iPhone manually and separately. Needs a fix.
Then trying to add a G5 running Tiger into the list of computers on the iSync chain, ( the other three Macs now running in Leopard ), bought in another raft of problems mainly all machines continuously asking for permission to sync each application/info' file all the time until I stopped the syncing by turning iSync off. Leopard doesn't seem to like Tigers around, I had to take the G5/Tiger OS machine out of the loop.
So hopefully we'll get fixes for these problems unless it's something I am doing wrong now under Leopard........
    Any ideas?

  • IPhone calendar not syncing

Please help. I am at my wit's end. I cannot get my iPhone calendar to sync to icloud nor to my Mac. Sometimes some events from my phone sync, sometimes not. I cannot figure out how to get everything to go where it should. iCloud and iCal seem to be in sync. New events from my phone do not sync. I have searched every thread I can find on the subject, no help for me. I do not use Outlook nor google calendars. Just iPhone, iCal, and iCloud. I only started using iCloud because it seemed to be the answer to this problem when my phone stopped syncing to iCal. It still doesn't work. I have tried turning off all my calendars, signing out of iCloud in my Mac's System Preferences, changing how far back events on my phone will sync, all to no avail.

I had the same problem too with certain calendars not syncing. I deleted my MobileMe account from my iPhone and then added it back again. All my data including the calendars that were not syncing repopulated my iPhone in just a few minutes. Everything seems to be working fine now.

  • IPhone calendar not syncing to MacBook air

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone to 8.1.3, my calendar entries and deletions are not updating on my MacBook Air with OS Yosemite AND on my iPad (also upgraded to iOS 8.1.3).  Nothing has changed in any of my iCloud settings on none of the devices. So obviously the changes that I make with my iPhone are not making it to my MacBook or iPad. HELP!

    Hey Lynda Jo,
That is not very productive when the calendars are not syncing. I am not sure what troubleshooting you have done on your end but let’s start with the first article below to get it sorted out. It will have you check the settings even though you have not changed anything, it may be a good idea to double check. If all looks good after that troubleshooting, then the second article will be your follow up to get it working again.

  • Why will my iphone calendar not synch with my mail account?

My iphone calendar suddenly went blank and has no appointments or anything that has been input on it.  I use yahoo as my mail, so I am not sure if that has something to do with it or not.  Please help!

You have to buy Mountain Lion 10.8.x, Lion (10.7.x) isn't broadly available. However before even considering upgrading find out why your iPhone will not sync. When you connect it to your iMac is it seen in iTunes?

  • Exchange and iPhone Calendars not separated

My iPhone 3GS is sync with the Exchange Calendar of my company. I can see the exchange and local iPhone calendar, but they are both labeled "Calendar" with color code next to each.
For some reason, my wife iPhone is on the same version and model as mine - 3.1.3 / MC132ZP, and she also sych with the same Exchange server, but her calendar list is sub-labeled into "Calendar" and My Exchange "Calendar". I prefer the way her Calendars are grouped and labeled as it is much clearer. This kinds of bother me. Even there is color code next to the Calendar list on my iPhone, but just wondering how I can get mine behave the same as my wife's phone.
    Thank you for your help.

Are you using iCloud? Go to Settings/Mail, Contacts.... and try turning off Contacts on one device and then turning it back on.

  • IPhone calendar not syncing to iCal or MobileMe

Using Lion and the latest software version on my iPhone:  syncing iCal to MobileMe works in either direction. However, when a calendar event is typed on my iPhone it does not sync to anything on my iMac.  Does anyone know of a solution?

    FOUND THE ISSUE.
Check to see if your Gmail (or mail) is connected to your calendar. If it is, turn it off.
When using Siri, she was scheduling to my Gmail Calendar (which is also where the rest of my meetings were scheduled) That calendar would not sync with iCal on my computer.
So, on your iphone go to Settings>Mail, Contact, Calendars
Look under ACCOUNTS. There should be an iCloud account and your Mail account (Gmail, Yahoo etc)
Click on the mail account and look at the calendars. If they are ON, click them OFF.
Now if you go back to iCal on your phone, you will only see iCloud calendars listed under Calendars. So from now on, when you make a meeting with Siri, she will schedule it and it will appear moments later in iCal on your Computer.
    FINALLY!

  • IPhone calendar not syn in icloud

When I input new event from my iphone and ipad, the new event don't syn to iCloud!!!

First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • IPhone Calendar not syncing to iCloud

I am running 8.0.2 on my iPhone 5c and when I add an event or appointment on my calendar, it does not sync with iCloud. When I add an appointment from icloud.com or from Outlook on my computer, it works and will sync to my phone. Just not when I add an appointment from iPhone.
    Help please?
    Thanks.

    Howdy jandally,
It sounds like you are adding events to your iPhone 5c calendar, but they do not sync up to iCloud, but adding them to iCloud.com does sync to the phone. I would use the iOS troubleshooting section of the following article to help you get that going again, named:
    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Iphone calendar not updating

When I set up my new iPhone 4S to sync to my Yahoo calendar, the iPhone pulled in my Yahoo data. However, since setting it up, some new items I put in my Yahoo calendar are not updating to my iPhone. Any ideas? I tried setting the Calender to both Push and Fetch.

It might take a little but of time for your calendar to sync with your Yahoo! Calendar. Check everything in the calendar tab under you Yahoo! section (calendar app> calendars button). Always set the setting to push, meaning "automatic."

  • IPhone Calendar not syncing over the air

My iCal calendars won't sync with my iPhone as of a few days ago after I did a reset. I have tried the following to fix it:
    1. Deregistering the computer from Mobile me
    2. Resetting sync history in Mobile Me
    3. Resetting sync history in iSync
    4. Deleting the mobile me account from the iPhone and re-adding it
    5. Setting up a test account which was able to sync fine with the iPhone
    6. I also tried adding my wife's mobile me account to my iphone and sync'd her calendars and they sync'd fine to my iphone
    7. I used her iPhone and added my mobile me account to her iPhone and my calendars sync'd fine to her iPhone
The problem seems to be specific to my mobile me account and my iPhone. Basically the calendars don't sync at all so currently I have nothing but the default calendars on my iPhone. The contacts and bookmarks sync fine.
Any ideas for what I could try to fix?
