Relinking FCPX multicam media

I did a multicam project in FCPX with the 2 media files temporarily stored on my local harddrive. I had a copy of these exact same files with different filenames on an external hdd. As I updated FCPX to the new library management I wanted to clean up and link the clips to the correct external files.
1) I updated FCPX to 10.1.1
2) I updated my events and projects
-everything was fine-
3) In my project I selected BF3 Sharqi coop_1a and BF3 Sharqi coop_1b and relinked these files to Sharqi_1a and Sharqi_1b
4) Now my project is broken and files are reported as missing, even though
-selecting the clips (still with their old names) plays them back fine
-inspector file information reports a green dot next to original files
I solely used multicam in this project so it's hard to judge wether the relinking didn't work or wether the multicam clip doesn't recognize the relinked files it consists of.
Any help in fixing this would be greatly appreciated.
Btw, I did not create proxy media for the multicam clip.

I'm having this exact same issue as well after upgrading old projects to 10.1 and the new "library" structure.  All of my multicam clips are now labled as "(missing)" in the project.
I tried the suggestion of right clicking to "Reveal in Browser" and it brings up an error message that says "Failed to reveal clip.  The original clip could not be found or reconstructed."
Like the OP, all the original clips I used to create the multicam clip are still in the event, and I did not create proxy media.

  • Multicam media with sync timecode?

    Hi friends.
Anyone here have any timecode-synchronized multicamera media at your
disposal that I could get for some testing?
    Thanks.

Hey Wes...what are you looking for? I could get you some. Email me off list (in profile).

  • I have material shot on a new camera in 16x9.  When I import it into FCPX the media is "squished" into 4x3.  How can I get it to look right?

    I have material shot on a new camera.  It's a Panasonic AG-HPX250EJ.
According to the clip properties of the media on the camera the footage was shot 16x9 at a frame rate of 50i
    The format is DV25_420
The problem is that when I connect the camera to the iMac via a USB cable and attempt to import the media into FCPX (I'm running version 10.0.1) it displays as 4x3.
    What am I doing wrong?
Needless to say I have a deadline looming for the edit and I'm rather tearing my hair out.

If problem persists after importing via FW
Select the clips in the event browser and in the inspector select INFO.
Ensure that the View bottom Left is set to SETTINGS.
You should be able to change the way FCPX interprets the clips via Anamorphic Override.

  • HT5958 Audio prevents relinking to original media -- can I manually change the number of audio channels for a video clip?

I recently updated to Final Cut X 10.1. I had a project for which I was heavily editing the audio, so I was using the "detach audio" feature and in some cases deleting the audio track. Now, when I try to go into the timeline and relink the movie files (which weren't linked automatically after update), the original media won't relink because "the original file didn't have audio, but the new file does."
Is there anyway to edit the misreferenced file so it beleives it has an audio track?
Thank you for any and all suggestions. I really don't want to start this edit over from scratch.
    Ben

Thanks for the responses, guys. I guess I wasn't really all that clear. Something to do with FCP 6 and the Kona III card is telling FCP to set up each project with 16 channels of audio - and ONLY 16 channels of audio. Anywhere that there is a drop-down or check box, the drop-down or check box is either grayed out or only provides choices centered around 16 channels of audio. So, for example, let's say I go to the "Capture Presets" tab under "Audio/Video Settings" and click on "Edit" to modify the current preset. Under "QuickTime Audio Settings," I select "AJA Kona" as my device. Then, under the "Format" drop-down, I have four possible audio formats to choose from - ALL of them showing 16 channels (e.g. - "48.000 khz 24-bit 16-channel"). Nowhere is there an option of selecting, say "48.000 khz 24-bit 2-channel." Everything under every tab specifies 16-channel. So, as a result, I can't tell it to disable the fourteen tracks that I'll NEVER use. I even tried starting with the "Generic" settings tab, used to create your own presets, and even that would ONLY allow me 16-channels - and I couldn't over-ride it!
So far, the only way I've found to work around this is to manually go in and turn off the little green nodes indicating which audio track(s) you don't want to capture. The problem is, every time I have to do this, I'm manually turning of FOURTEEN audio channels.
    Hope this helps clarify...

  • FCPX: Multicam edit

in FCPX, How can I get the "New Multicam clip" option to work? it's not highlighted when I right click on several camera angle clips.

The easiest way to trash your preferences is to use the free Preference Manager application from Digital Rebellion:

Just make sure that Final Cut Pro X is selected and click the Trash button.

  • PP CS4 won't relink offline media

Can anyone help me trouble shoot my Premiere Pro CS4? It would refuse to let me save anything, freeze and make me force quit it over and over, finally it told me to reinstall. So i did but now none of my previous timelines work, the media is all either offline or just not playing when i try to playback. When i try to relink the offline media it tells me the file dimensions are too big. What can i do? This is a big project which needs to be completed urgently and i don't want to have to start over losing weeks of work.
I'm using a macbook pro and an education version of the adobe masters collection.

Hi all, thanks for your help but neither of those solutions are working. I have found an autosave in which most of the media is still linked but not all of them and I am still being told that the file dimensions are too large to link, despite being from tapes i captured using premiere pro. While all clips are in the same place as where i edited them, the ones that appear to still be linked are blank and will not play.

Jeff covers two of the biggest reasons that Media is Offline, and why one might not be able to relink to the media. This ARTICLE goes into detail on a few other reasons. The biggest question, and also at least part of the solution, is "why is the media offline?" One of the main causes is that something changed in the Path to the media, which is absolute. Then, when PrPro cannot find that media, it asks "Where is file ____ ?" and the user chooses anything but the Finder to locate that media, then Saves the Project. All media with changed Paths will then show as Offline. However, manually relinking will correct that. In your case, you are failing in that relink operation, so Jeff's suggestions take on even greater importance. Still, by defining WHY the media is showing offline, might be useful in determining how to relink. Good luck, Hunt

  • Relink files to pluraleyes xml file

Hi, I'm a videography student working in a team, and we are having some problems with filesharing. We have done a bunch of multi-camera shooting, and synched most of the clips in FCPX with multicam. For some reason the multicam clip for one interview didn't work, though (This is one long audio file, with multiple video files from two different cameras), so my partner synched it in pluraleyes and sent me the xml file. When I imported the xml file I got a string of error messages saying that "the item could not be read." Looking at the file paths in the error messages I saw that they were for my partner's hard drive, so I figured I just needed to relink the original video/audio files, which are all on my hard drive and already imported to FCPX. However, when I click on the clip or the event and go to file-->relink files, the "locate" button is grayed out. I'm totally confused and don't know what went wrong. Any ideas?

Hi, thank you so much for responding! I realized you're right, of course I can't relink the multicam itself, but I don't see how to relink them with the angle editor. It doesn't show clips in red--the angles are simply black, empty. I'm actually not sure how to see the individual clips at all in the angle editor, because each angle contains multiple clips in sequence. (Because the cameras would only record 20 minutes at a time, and this was a long interview.)

  • Multicam performance issues

I am trying to play nine streams of 1080i ProRes 422 in an FCPX multicam clip, and it just stutters and drops frames. My client needs to see all nine sources in the multicam viewer.
    Here's my specs:
    Late 2013 8 core Mac Pro w/D700
    Mac OS X 10.9.2
    32GB RAM
    FCPX 10.1.3
AJA Io 4K with 10.5.3 drivers
    Xsan connected via fibre channel
There is plenty of bandwidth available (over 500MB/sec) to push the data through the pipeline, so I don't think the issue is there. I have tried transcoding to Proxy, and that is better, but the job that's on the way is a quick turnaround that doesn't allow for transcoding. I have the Viewer set to "Better Performance."
This same media on the same system plays nine streams just fine in Premiere Pro, but the quirks and lack of stability make that a questionable option. Is there anything else I can do to make this work?
    Thanks,
    Bill

You should consider working in proxy for that one. Nine streams of 1080i is a lot of data to push through and even if on paper your setup should support that much throughput there is also processing time involved. With proxy you need a lot less data.

  • Lost media for Final cut Pro X

I finished a project on final Cut Pro X and started on a new one downloading new footage.  I ran out of Disk space so I started to delete events from my iphoto library. (All is backed up)  I also deleted events and files that where being used in my previous project.  When I go to open the project they have obviously dissapeared and I am confronted with 2 different looking boxes.  One, with the usual 'Missing File' (Mainly photo's I think) with the red background icon, but also a lot of video which is replaced with a blue box with the linear look of a video and audio segment.  As I say I have all the footage backed up and have re uploaded back into iphoto.  I dont know how to make the program reconnect with the files I have reinstalled.

    Hi MC Hilton,
I found the following information that may be helpful in relinking lost media to a Final Cut Pro X project:

  • How to move a sequence, and only the media in the sequence?

I need to move a 30 min. sequence, and associated media, to work on a different, remote editing system.
I'd like to just get the media in the sequence with maybe 5 sec. handles. Every test I've run through Media Manager has copied each, complete, original media clip (not just the portion used) - many of which are over 20 minutes long - despite having only used a small portion of each clip. (So in the media manager Summary section the bar graph of "original" amount of space used, is always the same as the "modified"). In the past I think this was called "Bounce"...
    2. If I accomplish this, can I email the sequence data only, and have it link up in the original editing system, or will the media file names be so unique that the original system won't recognize them and link up.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi -
Question 1: The obvious first question is - did you select Delete unused media from selected items?
If you did, does your media have a Reel Name associated with it?
    2) You can email the project sequence information (you will want to zip it first before sending), Then you can relink to the media as long as the media has the same names. If will be a matter of re-directing the sequence to the new directory location of the media - which you will do through the Reconnect dialog box.
But you might want to just buy an external hard disk drive, copy the media and project there and FedEx the whole thing to your collaborator.

  • Clips lose pixel aspect ratio setting after relinking

    hi there,
after reopening a project from a backup drive I had to relink all my media.
    no problem with that...
but after relinking all aspect ratios were lost. files are 2048x1536 anamorph (manually) set to an aspect of 1.33 and then scaled down to 1920x1080.
generally all settings were intact - the aspect ratio setting however was not. all clips had a square pixel setup after relinking.
    is this a bug?
    thanks!

  • How can i relink files to the timeline sequence when i've deleted the source file path? All the attribute are still in the timeline, I just can't relink

So i started an edit and had the whole thing finished and ready to export in Final Cut X, when i went to export I had a message pop up say that it couldn't export while FCP X is still referencing media. I went through trying to solve the problem and ended up deleting the source media folders in the Final Cut Events folder and reimporting the clips. This lead to a whole can of worms opening up and now i'm left with a whole edit with 90% of the clips in the timeline unable to relink to source media.
    Can anyone help?

First find the files. Then File>Relink Event Files and point to the folder.

  • Premier Constantly Losing Links to media

So, I recently find myself repeatedly relinking every single media file in my Premier Pro project.  It usually takes less than a minute for Premier to lose at least one, then the others follow.  Sometimes, I open the project and within a minute or two every media asset goes grey.  To guard against this, I have to save after almost every action so I can "revert" the file when it loses the links.  When I reopen the file, all the links are online, but not for long.  I'm sure I don't need to explain what this does to my productivity.  Naturally, I'm in the middle of a tight project and don't have a lot of time to stop work to figure this out, but I begin to wonder if I won't make out over the long haul by fixing the issue now if I can.
I'm using CS6 on a Windows machine with 32GB RAM and a very speedy processor.  All of my video assets are stored locally on my machine, but on the same drive as the program files and OS.  I have a separate internal drive set up for a cache and another to render to.  I've been running Premier without a problem on this machine for well over a year and I can't think of anything I've done recently that would upset the gods.  However, the system is part of a large company network and our IT department regularly applies updates to various security components.  Any suggestions?  I'd certainly appreciate it if someone recognizes the issue and can provide a solution.  My thanks in advance for any insight.

I've been using Final Cut Pro (pre-X) since v1.0 and I only ever used about 29% of the capabilities. However, most of the lesser functions slapped onto Ye Olde FCP were lame, unfinished, niche-focused or broken.
