Relinking image files in Indesign CS6 library

I have a customer that has created more than 300 page templates stored as libary files.They are distributing the library across multiple properties in their organization and  in each instance, on the "other" servers, all images linked in the templates come up as "Broken links" when placed on a page in the new location. Hypothecically all of the imags in the original libary are linked to \\fileserverA\Images and I need to do a batch update to relink all linked items to \fileserverB\Images. I would like to find a way to do this without have to each template on to a page individually, fix the link and place back into library.  I know there is a preference that will use "most recent folder" when updating links, but i want to fix the problem globally in the Library file rather than leave it to each individual to do the right thing

Can you upload the PM file to dropbox and provide a link? Then one of us who do not seem to have this issue (at least I don't with my PM files) can take a look and perhaps convert it for you.
Take care, Mike

  • How do I create an interactive PDF file in InDesign CS6 with Folio Overlays?

    I have been trying to export an interactive PDF file using InDesign CS6. It exports fine, and all the content works except for the Folio Overlays I created. I created two Folio Overlays (one Pan & Zoom and one Scrollable Frame). The overlays work if I preview them from the Folio Overlays panel, but they do not work on the PDF document.
    I am using File >> Export... to create the PDF document, and I am sure the PDF document is of the interactive type and not the print type. Am I exporting it incorrectly? Is there a specific step that I have missed somewhere? Do I need to create a Folio Build to make the Folio Overlays work?
    When I mouse over the Folio Overlays, I get the crosshair cursor which only selects part of the image when I click and drag it.

    PDF is one thing. Folios for DPS is another. There is a little bit of
    overlap but not much.
    The interactivity in the folio overlays panel is for DPS only.

  • RELINKING IMAGES MANUALLY IN INDESIGN DOESN'T WORK

    Hello,
    Please help,
    I am opening an Indesign CS3 EPS image file in Indesign CS4 which is made by combining 2 Clipping path images. The problem is: I am not ablt to use the images manually. however, automatic relink works fine. Although I don't know where that option is. I just want to use manual relink.
    any suggestions??
    thanks
    Rachael

    I've seen cases where this "Mini Save"/ "Automatic Recovery" did not work at all.
    Rare cases, but:
    Always when the InDesign file is opened on a different computer and you are working on a network. And someone pulls the plug from that other computer (shutting it down, ignoring the messages that another machine is hooked)!
    SO: I would never rely or bet on the otherwise fabulous feature "Mini Save"/ "Automatic Recovery".
    There is a startup script around in the web by Martin Fischer somewhere on the site hilfdirselbst.ch, that saves a copy of the actual file in a special folder every time you do a "save" or "cmd + s" adding a continous number to the auto saved file name.

  • How do I add a zoom function to a digital magazine (.swf file) in InDesign CS6?

    Hi,
    Im creating an interactive digital magazine for our company which will go on the iPad, but also online for computers.
    The iPad (.folio) has zoom functions, but on screen (.swf) the magazine is very static and peaple can't zoom and scroll (the zooming buttons function in InDesign doesn't work here).
    So, how do I add a zoom function to a digital magazine (.swf file) in InDesign CS6?
    (I read older posts regarding this problem in CS5... It's not possible for me to purchase an additional product for that. I have Flash, if there is a tutorial on how to do it, that'd be helpful too)
    Thanks for your help!
    Best regards!

    Although the help implies this should work, and I've seen it written in a book to do things this way, it's not how I do things:
    var content_req1:URLRequest = new URLRequest("text/hales.txt");
    var content_ldr:URLLoader = new URLLoader(content_req1);
    content_ldr.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete1);
    Instead, try:
    var content_req1:URLRequest = new URLRequest("text/hales.txt");
    var content_ldr:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    content_ldr.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete1);
    content_ldr1.load(content_req1);

  • Import/Place .odt files in Indesign CS6

    Hi,
    Can we place/import .odt files in Indesign CS6? If yes, how?
    Or do we need to convert them into other specific word formats so that the content & styles remain the same.
    Thanks.

    Save as Word file.
    InDesign can't import ODF files - so you'll have to use a format or application that does support.
    I don't know if the index entries are kept when going from ODF to Word.

  • My Fonts change when opening an InDesign CS4 file with InDesign CS6

    I've been experiencing strange behaviour when opening a InDesign CS4 file file with InDesign CS6: the kerning and spacing is all off:
    Original file:
    opened in InDesign CS6:
    Is this a conversion error? Is there a setting/pref I've got wrong?

    It's more than a year ago since this issue was reported, but at this time I'd had the same problem when opening a CS4 document in CS6/CC.
    I was amazed that a header, placed in capitals, looked different in CS6/CC. But at last, after several tests, i've came to the conclusion that "forced" capitals behaving different than "real" capitals. In others words: when you forcing text to capitals the kerning would be different in CS6/CC. When you place text in real capitals (Shift + text) the kerning is the same as in both InDesign versions.
    Text in CS4:
    As you can see: in CS4 there's no difference between real capitals en forced capitals.
    Below the results when opening the CS4 file in CS6/CC:
    I'm not sure if there are still people struggling with this problem, but hopefully was is this helpful.

  • How do I print to a postscript file with InDesign CS6 without both extensions, .indd.ps?

    How do I print to a postscript file without an .indd extension in InDesign CS6? I choose Print, choose a print preset from my print shop and Save. The first time I tried it was blank (the Hide Extension was checked), so I tried to save and got a dialog box that said it cannot be saved as an .indd file (duh), to choose both or .ps. I chose .ps and it was fine, but every time I postscripted it gave me this dialog box until I unchecked Hide Extension. After I did that, every time I postscript it automatically saves both extensions. Not a big deal but it is annoying. I just want it to end with .ps like it used to. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks!!

    I have no idea but I am incredibly curious...why are you doing this?
    Printing to postscript is a completely archaic workflow. Export to PDF
    instead.

  • How do I save my file using InDesign CS6 so that it can be opened with CS5?

    I know other people asked similar questions but I can't find anything that helps me figure my issue out.
    Basically, I packaged my file using InDesign CS6. When I sent it to the person it needed to be sent to, she couldn't open it. She was running CS5.
    So now I'm trying to REpackage it still using CS6 but when I make an IDML version and try to package it, it says that I need to SAVE it. Well the only options are CS6, which I can't use again, and another IDML version. If I did the IDML it would just save it as another untitled document and then I'd have to start all over.
    Actually I just tried that, and InDesign crashed.
    Any suggestions?

    Hey,
    There is no such function in InDesign as 'saving to a lower version' (as it is in e.g. FrameMaker). There are interchange formats: obsolete INX (CS2,CS3,CS4) and current IDML (CS5, CS5.5, CS6).
    You need to export (ctrl+e) previously saved document into IDML and attach to existing INDD file (Attaching is not necessary as IDML is a self-sufficient file). Also it's a really good idea to attach a PDF file (from CS6) as there might be some differences when opening a IDML from higher file in lower version program.
    Final package could look like this:
         Document fonts
         Links
              original file.indd
              original file.idml
              original file.pdf
    best regards

  • Editing Photoshop CS6 file using InDesign CS6

    I need to edit a Photoshop CS6 file using InDesign CS6. Specifically, I am editing a business card and want to make changes to the layered components (for example: changing color hues, changing logo, changing fonts) and I know nothing about InDesign. Can anyone give me some pointers?

      The thing is, I don’t have Photoshop or Illustrator; I only have InDesign CS6 and I want to do the following:
    Deepen the colors
    Swap the logo for another one
    Change the font
    I am not able to access the layers because I used the place function to insert the jpeg file in the InDesign document. I remember once being able to access the layered document, but I don't remember how. I tried opening the Photoshop file using InDesign, but it doesn't come up as a readable file.

  • How to I add ADPDF9 PPD to the printer description file in InDesign CS6?

    I am having problems creating a clean PS file for booklet spreads and was advised to add ADPDF9 PPD to the printer description file in InDesign CS6. Can someone please tell me how to do this?

    @Ihatecomputers – yes. Quite simple, if you have the PPD file at hand:
    On Max OSX:
    1. Go to Applications / Adobe inDesign CS6 / Presets
    2. Create a folder with the following exact name: PPDs
    3. Copy ADPDF9.PPD into that folder
    Restart InDesign.

  • Image Placed into InDesign CS6 appears reversed/missing

    I am using InDesign CS6 on Windows 7, 64-bit.
    I have worked in InDesign off and on for the past three years and have never experienced this problem before. I have always placed images into InDesign with no problem and now I have this *one* image that won't place correctly, after placing two images in the same fashion.
    The original image (JPEG) was opened in Photoshop CS6. I removed the background. Changed to CMYK. Saved as .TIFF, preserved as transparency. Then placed in InDesign.
    It either shows up "Reversed", like this (no transparency when saving as a TIFF in Photoshop first):
    Or just kinda outlined, like this (saving as a TIFF with a transparency in Photoshop first):
    I can't see the image. It prints this way, too.
    I've tried other images, they are all fine. I always place TIFFs with no problem, so I'm really stumped here.
    I've tried placing as a .PSD, .EPS and .TIFF and nothing works. The two other images to the left of the weird one were placed in the same way with no problems.
    Any ideas?

    OMG. THAT WORKED. I have lost two hours of my life trying to figure that out. I am forever thankful to you!!!
    Here's the settings that WORKED:

  • Image files created by CS6 not viewable in iOS devices

    Hello,
    This is kind of a strange one.
    I'll start off with what I am running:
    My computer - Late 2013 MacBook Pro (Retina) running Yosemite (10.10.1)
    My Photoshop - CS6 (13.0.6 x64)
    And now the issues:
    I am not able to view any emailed image files, on any of my iOS devices (using the default mail app) that were created by CS6 on my laptop.
    As a test, I had someone in my office create a .jpg using their Photoshop, had them email it to me, and I was able to view it on my iPhone using the default mail app.
    So, something in particular with my installed version of CS6 is doing something strange when outputting files that are making them not viewable by the default iOS mail app.
    I work in film, and often have to email images to clients (which many of them are using iPhones), so having the images not viewable is a big issue for me.
    Has anyone experience anything like this, or perhaps know what may be causing this?
    Thanks so much for your input,
    Greg

    This has somewhat been resolved.  This is actually an Outlook issue, Outlook is doing something strange to the image file when emailing that is causing the problem.
    Ugh, sorry for the post.

    I have suddenly replace wrong working files, how to revert back previous working files in InDesign CS 6?

    This feature does not exist in InDesign. You're best hope is that you have a backup of the previous file. Moving forward, you might want to try a free product called Radish that allows you to save versions and revert back to previous versions when needed. I work with Indesign cs6, in a workgroup with synchronized files at my HD, from a virtual disk (cloud), and bacause of this, the path linked files got the computer name (ex.: computer1/folderx/file.indd).
    How many people edit the same file, many times the path do not is update when the file is opened at other computer. There is any way to change the path files in a easy way (manually)? Or make the Indesign search for files with broken links automatically from a new "root" or main folder in computer?
