Relinking missing things in Folio Builder

Hi, folks
I usually work with CS6 in a desktop with Windows 7 but I have to finish my work with a MacBook due to the constraints imposed by Adobe DPS. That said, I sometimes need to work in a different computer (at the job, somewhere else...). To speed up the work and to avoid compatibility issues, I use sidecar.xml to assembly the app and opentype fonts... I keep my work at an external harddrive that I plug whenever I need (no trouble at all with it being a NTFS drive, btw, tuxera came to the rescue).
But what really nags me and what I find a real and royal pain in the neck is the need to relink articles to pages (InDesign or HTML) in Folio Builder every time I need to do something in another computer.
The question is: Is there any way or script I could use to make this relinking in a speedy and, if possible, automated way?
(Pretty please)
Gustavo (Posting from madrid)

@Charlie – this script is wonderful to relink InDesign documents with assets, but it cannot provide a way of linking folio articles to InDesign documents.
Folio articles are organized in a "afc.db" database file and are coded with the full name of the local harddisk AND the user account name (if my memory serves me right).
It is NOT advisable to edit the "afc.db" which is constantly updated, if you work on your folios.
So, if you take at one hand a Windows 7 machine and at the other hand a MacBook Pro you cannot have the "same" paths on both machines. At least I do not know a workflow where this is possible.
In the case of two Macs it should be possible to use one of the machines over the other, if you make sure that the name of the harddisk and the name of the user account is the same on both machines AND if you take the whole "dmp" folder where your folio data and the "afc.db" is stored together with all the assets (InDesign files together with all their assets) to the second machine. Of course you have to put the data in the same folder structure…
In that very special case you don't need to relink anything…
But that configuration will be a rare case.

  • Missing all menus and buttons from Folio Builder

I had a problem with Folio Builder panel when change ID password. I re instal both plugin again( FP and FProdTool), but this did not help. After reading the forum about solving the problem >
    1) Quit InDesign and any other CS apps
    2) Use the Activity Monitor to quit the CS5ServiceManager or CS5.5Service Manager
    3) Next delete this file based on version:
    /Users/lnegi/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
    /Users/lnegi/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5.5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
    4) Then remove this item from the Keychain Access based on version:
    Adobe-CS-5-renga
    Adobe-CS-5.5-renga
    To remove from the keychain:
Navigate to /Applications/Utilities and launch the Keychain Access.app
If the lock icon in the upper left appears locked, click on it and enter your password to unlock it.
Select the “login” item in the Keychains list in the top left.
Select “Passwords” from the category list.
Type “renga” in the search field in the top right.
Select any matches and press the delete key.

  • I'm missing Folio Builder Panel in Indesign CC

I just downloaded InDesign CC, installed DPS tools but don't have Folio Overlays or Folio Builder panels under Windows in InDesign.  I am using inDesign CC on a MacBook Pro.  I have it all working in CS6 but not CC.  Is there something that I'm missing? bv

As far as I remember I had the same issue when i let an old version of CS6 on my computer (was a PC). I had to clean everything related to Adobe to then install all CC, and then that worked. Not surs that may be the same problem for Mac, but that was my experience.

  • Missing Folio Builder Panel

I'm running Indesign CS 6 and recently updated DPS desktop tools. Since then, the Folio builder panel went missing and I can't get it back. Please help!
Actually, there is the whole windows>extensions tab missing and the extension manager is not showing DPS desktop tools at all. I installed AdobeExchange, which shows up in the extension manager but still no windows>extensions tab ...

I've moved your question to the DPS forum which is the best place to get an answer.

  • InDesign CC - "Create App" option missing from Folio Builder panel

I am using Windows 7, InDesign CC.
While watching a Terry White video I made an app along wth the tutorila All works fine in the Desktop Viewer. When it reaches the point of going to the "Folio Builder" panel mine does not have the "Creat App" option that Terry White has.  Is this because I have windows not
    Mac?

Yes, a Mac is required to create DPS apps.

  • Folio Builder is missing from indesign cs6 panel

    Hi,
I have Indeisgn CS6. I need to access my Folio Builder, however after updating the system my folio builder has disappeared completely from the drop down 'Windows' tool.
Any idea how to get this back?

Perhaps the update wasn't successful? Re-install the tools here Digital Publishing Suite Help | Installing DPS tools

  • Folio Builder panel missing in InDesign CC

I have installed InDesign via Creative Cloud, and when I go to the folio builder, no dialog box appears. I was looking for the presence of the DPSGraphics plug-in "digital publishing" plug-in and it also cannot be located. Do i have to run the DPS updater tool?

Are you saying that the panel is completely blank or that you're expecting to see Folio presets? If it's the later, you don't get presets as you have to create Folios manually.

  • Managing stacks after using Folio Builder

The prerelease Content Bundler made managing stacks easy. Am I missing something with the release tools? I only see the Folio Builder and it seems not to include any way to reorder pages. It seems like the order the articles are added to the Folio is the way they have to appear in the Content Viewer.
I'm not sure if it's a related issue, but I am also experiencing hyperlink issues. Links that worked seamlessly in the prerelease now don't appear to work on the iPad.

Ah for the twitter issue specifically i found it in Twitters mobile help guide documetation.
Problems are common with "redirection" and webviews.  This is because Apple's UIwebview object is not a mobile safari and handles certain tasks differently.  If you know a website will require a redirection then its good practice to link it to the final redirected URL otherwise the UIwebview object will lock it down and display nothing.  So in all honesty its more of an Apple issue than an Adobe issue.
usually when you do this inside of xcode the webview application passes the direct URL through a "NSURL" object then through the "UIWebView Delegation" method--- but it is URL specific so Adobe would have to hand code Every possible Mobile redirection out there.
But hey thats what testing things out is for.  So if a website doesn't display.. most likely they have a redirection in place.

  • Why I can't use the Folio Builder panel on my Indesign 5.5?

When I launch the Folio Builder panel in my Indesign 5.5. There is a message that says "To start the digital publishing authoring process, please download the update for the Folio Producer components and relaunch your application." I have downloaded the "FolioProducerTools-CS55-1-9-1.zip", installed it and restarted my machine but when I launch the Folio Builder panel again and it has the same message so does anybody know what I have missed?
    Thanks!

Thanks Bob for your super fast reply. Cheers!

  • Folio Builder: An error has occurred opening the source file for the article layout.

I have been working on a Folio. When I sat down to work on my folio, I was instructed by indesign to update my Folio producer tools, which I did.
Since then I can no longer view any article layout from that folio in indesign. Indeed any folio that I create that does not reside on my desktop give the same problem. I can import articles, add articles and they all upload to the proper place at adobe and I can view them. But I simply cannot open them up through folio builder as I previously.
The exact error message is as below:
An error has occurred opening the source file for the article layout.
The InDesign file for the layout cannot be found.
Another strange thing that seems to be happening is that the folio will randomly reoder the articles in the folio.
I have dumped my indesign prefs, tried creating an entirely new project, made a new account and even reinstalled the entire software.
But the problem of opening an article that I have imported or added to a folio, simply not being found to open has got me stumped. I can't proceed with a major project until I can sort this out.
    Can anyone help.
    Many thanks
    Steve
The problem initially seemed very similar to the one linked below, but I dont get the content generation error

  • PC content viewer shows only low res thumbnails of PDF folios (from folio builder)

Since i can't seem to find a similar question, here's my story:
I've recently held a small class of 2*18 students, running various versions of indesign (mostly Cs6 and CC) and various OS (MacOs, Win7, Win 8).
On the Win 7 and 8 systems, some of the students had a blurry/low res and no interactivity feature output of anything coming from Folio Builder.
Regular Interactive Overlay Folio preview always turned well, and preview on the devices were ok too (except for the long process of putting things online when the PC users would want to preview on an iPad).
But i couldn't work them out of the horrible low res preview when the folios were built in Folio Builder.
So far i haven't found time to narrow the failing machines (we didn't have a lot of time for this).
Is this problem known ? Is there a workaround ?

Hi bob, as i mentionned in the title, it's the PC (aka desktop) Content Viewer that's concerned.
I know it's supposed to be rasterized, but the problem here is their (desktop) Content Viewer really displays the thumbnails instead of the expected (and interactive) content.
I had never encountered this kind of behaviour before, and couldn't track that on the website.

  • InDesign Crashes Opening Folio Builder Panel

While working on a publication, I will leave the Folio Builder panel to open a different one. Upon trying to reopen the builder panel so I can add my publication to the folio, InDesign crashes. Without fail, everytime. No matter what InDesign document I have open, it will crash. I have to force quit, reopen and add the document first thing. before begining work on another article.
    Anyone know why?

I open Indesign and it automatically signs me into my dps acct.
I begin working on an article (using the different tools like object states, buttons, video)
all of those panels are in the same tool group as the folio builder so folio builder gets collapsed while using the other tools.
when it is time to update my article and i go to open the folio builder panel is when it freezes InDesign.
I don't have any exact steps to reproduce this because the other tools I use varies, but if the folio builder panel gets collapsed, InDesign freezes when I reopen it.

  • Folio Builder doesn't allow me to add certain articles

I'm adding articles to folio builder and it's being a little picky about which ones I can add and which ones I can't. They're all formatted in the same size etc., but for some reason 3 of my 30 articles won't give me the "add" option or if I add them they hang and it crashes InDesign. Any ideas? Are there specific types of things I should look out for in regards to how I format my documents so that they'll play nice w/ Folio Builder?

It's a tough one, Visslette... Of course, you checked the obvious stuff, so you need to supply a bit more info. What formats and orientation are they, are they smooth scrolling or staggering, did you check to upload them to a new magazine (just for the sake of checking the change), do they total over the 100 MB limit ?

  • Folio Builder can't detect iPad CS5

I've got my iPad (2) connected to my computer and the computer is picking it up, but InDesign doesn't see my iPad. I've got the Content Viewer open on the iPad and I've restarted InDesign and unplugged/plugged back in the iPad to attempt making a connection again, but no dice. I'm not really sure what else to do. I can download all my folios to the iPad if I log into my account in Content Viewer, but it moves really slow over my network. I'm working with CS5 - might that be part of the problem? The iPad also still has iOS 6 on it. I am on a Mac.

    Sorry, it's lateŠI missed that.
And you're completely up to date with the tools and folio builder? There was
an issue a while back with this but I don't recall how long ago.
I don't have anything as old as CS5 installed anymore to test.
