Was running osx Lion bef Mac book pro (2011) have logic board problem. Now that the Mac Book is repaird and reinstalled with OSX 10.6.8 I could not find my previous purchase OSX Lion in the purchased Mac Apps Store
Click on search will only bring to osx mountain lion.
Where can I reload my purchased osx lion?
Anyone can help?

Same app store Apple ID - initially it was there but later just disappeared
The hold Option key and click Purchase tab does not make it appear.
After searching found that can do a reboot with Command and 'R' with MacPro connected to the internet will enable a Online reload of OSX Lion.
Thanks everything is back to normal Lion after reinstall online with all data intact.

Upgrading to Mountain Lion from 2011 Snow Leopard

I have a Macbook Pro that I bought in 2011. I have been running under Snow Leopard without issues but have been looking into upgrading due to the fact that a game I am wanting to purchase minimally requires Lion. I have been told, by a tech person, that upgrading to Yosemite would be a lot on my computer and would likely cause issues like others have been having (I have been watching the reviews through the App Store). So I have been looking into Lion and Mountain Lion because I was told that since they were closer to my model it wouldn't be as hard on my computer as Yosemite or Mavericks would be.
Basically want to know / get a second opinion if anyone has gone from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion/Lion and if that worked well for them?
I don't know a lot about computers and just really don't want to mess up or crash my computer all because of a game!

I'm using Yosemite on an early 2008 iMac, so Yosemite should run on your computer. The biggest thing that would help Yosemite run better is maxing out your RAM.
I would pick Mountain Lion over Lion. Tried them both and Mountain Lion was much better.
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Re-download Lion from clean Snow Leopard install

My hard drive and back up drive both died at the same time. Aside from that fiasco, I've now reinstalled Snow Leopard on my new hard drive and want to re-install my previously purchased Lion on it. There are many posts that indicated that all you need to do is hold down the option key while selecting to buy it from the App Store, but since this is not being done from Lion, I only get the option to re-purchase it. I can't believe they wouldn't have an option for re-downloading it when it's clearly tied to my Apple ID. Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately there is nothing listed for Lion. All my other apps are there. When I try to use the Option key and click on purchases or the Lion purchase button it only wants me to actually purchase it again for the full price. Its as though it was tied to the physical drive that is dead instead of my Applie ID.

Insert your Snow Leopard disc and restart, press and hold the C key as soon as you hearthe startup chime, hold C until you see the Apple Logo. When your computer starts up you'll be at the first install screen, choose your language and click the arrow to go to the next screen. This screen has a menu bar, from the Utilities menu select Disk Utility, select your hard drive, this is the one with the manufacturers name or numbers, click the partition tab and then delete any existing partitions by selecting them and clicking the minus. In the drop down box select one partition and click apply. Name your hard drive and click erase. When it's done quit DU and go back to the installer, install Snow Leopard. When the installer is done and the computer is back up and running run Software Update to get to 10.6.8

I have the exact same issue, and no Profiles for me under System. My system was upgraded from 10.6 as soon as Lion came out and I've never had the icon.
I have had iCloud set up by creating an account within Mail, Contacts & Calendars - but in this setup my Mobile Documents folder, my iCloud "Documents and Data", never synchronized with my other devices. Did you see a circle made of light grey hash marks in the center/bottom of the screen? My iMac is 5 years old and for every update until 10.8.2 I would get the same white screen and the first few times I paniced and thought the machine was broken! Just let it play out until the desktop comes back up and it should not do it again until you do a system update.

10.7.2 is required for full iCloud facilities, but you can still use your email. In theory you should be able to access your email in Mail at the same server settings, but this hasn't worked for everyone: you can set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email:

I do think you should ask yourself if upgrading to Lion is the right course to take.
Snow Leopard is an excellent OS and Lion has literally been frozen out after barely a year. Remember too that some of your apps may not work with Lion (those that have Rosetta, for example) so that could mean more new purchases. Plus you may need to uprate your RAM too.

How do i get a dvd with osx snow leopard to boot from since i lost mine?

Having trouble with my early 2009 intel iMac. I have reset PRAM and SRC, used disk utility in safe mode to repair disk permissions (several were found/repaired) and tried to verify disk. System said it could not verify disk because it needed to be repaired while booted from another source. I could not find my OSX Snow Leopard disk, tried to start from Leopard disk. Now the system wont go through boot process at all. the gray screen with logo and progress bar appears, but after a minute the computer shuts down. I did run the apple hardware test (start up while holding D key) and no hardware issues were found. This must be a software issue.
Is there a way I can download a copy of OSX Snow Leopard on my laptop so I can burn a disk to boot my iMac from so I can repair the disk?

You will need the Mac OS X DVD later, because it's clear that there's a problem with the hard disk. Your Mac turns off because fsck couldn't repair the hard drive, so Mac OS X can't start up. Your only option is to format the hard drive, because it's not possible to repair it.
As you have the Leopard DVD, insert it and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, choose your language and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility, choose your hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the drive. If it's working properly, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
If it couldn't be erased, the hard drive is damaged and you need a different one

If one owns an early Intel Mac say 2009 and want to have OSX Lion and or Snow Leopard on a partitioned HD.My setup is typical I use my Bundled DVD and clean format HD ,intall Snow Leopard ,update all and then go to App store download Lion and then you chose your set up .
Most would upgrade to lion by installing on top of snow leapard.
I chose to install lion alone on a partition.
Today I was talking to Apple about an issue with accessing repair and disk permissions on an encrypted volume in Lion recovery Disk Utilities usually greyed out because one must turn off File Vault then go to Lion Recovery Disk Utilities by Start up ,press options the 2 partitioned volumes 1 Lion 2 Snow Leopard 3rd volume Lion recovery Disk Utilities.
,If File Vault is on it will not be there but when one selects volume 1 Lion and Command and R Lion recovery Disk Utilities appears but Lion Volumeo Recovery Disk Utilities will be greyed out you go tho unmount and it will prompt you for a Lion Password.
While doing this and repairing I encounted a Storage can not be repaired Error in red, Apple told me that Lion Recovery Disk Utilities related issues are not supported if one has Snow Leoopard and Lion on a partitoned HD.
So one must upgrade on top of SnowLeaopard or use the Snow Leopard Bundled DVD to erase the volume 2 SnowLeopard ,then all will be well !
So what happens with Mountain Lion when using Snow Leopard Macs ?

Yes, you are correct about the the £25 upgrade DVD.
No, you should not lose anything. But a good backup is always recommended, I prefer SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.

I was wondering if I could upgrade from osx tiger v10.4.11 to osx Snow Leopard v10.6 for 29$ or at a lower cost than full price. I do not need to upgrade that much because 10.4.11 is so great and I hate to leave it. Paying the full price of an operating system does not make sense to me. Yes you can. If the iMac meets the system requirements for Lion then you can boot it off the Lion disc (which is actually a USB drive, unless you download and burn it yourself).
