Reloading 10.5 with factory installation disk

i have a macbook pro 17 inch, 2.6 GHz, 2gb RAM. i was trying to reload with factory disc 10.5, after restarting i get a grey screen with a folder that has a question mark in it. I've tried a couple things but  same result. HELP ME PLEASE!

To boot from the factory disk insert the disk and reboot while holding down the 'c' key. The latest version of iMovie is 9.0.8. You won't find iMovie HD on there. Try here:

  • Does macbook pro 13 come with an installation disk?

i just got it from amazon
but there is not operating system disk
does it come with an installation disk?

Depends on the Mac OS X version...if it is Lion, 10.7.2, no there is not an included install disk, there is a recovery partition containing a copy of the Mac OS X on the hard drive.
If it has Snow Leopard, 10.6, yes there should be an install disk.

  • Repair HD with original Installation disks

Help, I ran Disk Utility on my startup disk (iMac HD) to be advised it was corrupt and I need to start up my iMac with another disk (such as your mac os x installation disk) and then use the disk utility to repair the disk.
My original os x installation disks (2 off that came with imac at purchase) are for os x 10.4.10 - I am currently using os x 10.6.8. If I do the above with the 10.4.10 disks will it change my os x level back to 10.4.10 or just use it to repair the HD and leave 10.6.8 and my data as is?
I'm doing this as my imac has slowed considerably for all apps and stating up - my best guesss is this corrupted startup HD is a major contributing factor.
Can anyone advise if I should go ahead and what the results will be.
    Thanks.

You should be able to check and hopefully repair the drive with grey Disk 1 that came with the Mac. This doesn't alter the version of OSX you have installed.
Although you hopefully won't need it do you have backup you can restore from if it turns out the disk is unrepairable?
Restart with grey Disk 1 in the drive whilst holding down the 'c' key. (You're not going to re-install the OS) At the first screen choose your language, at the next scree, from the menu bar select Utilities>Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD on the left and click on 'repair disk'. If anything gets fixed/changed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Restart as normal from the Apple menu.
A common cause of slowdowns seems to be caused by some anti-virus programs, Trusteer's Rapport (banking security software) and apps that claim to 'speed up. enhance, boost, etc. your Mac'. The worst offender seems to be MacKeeper - do you have any such software installed?
Also, lack of RAM can cause similar slowdowns - how much do you have installed?

  • Repairing disk with another installation disk??

My startup disk is almost full so I tried to repair disk in Disk Utility but only 'verify disk' was available, which led to the following error message: "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk." I have recently moved countries and cannot seem to find my installation disk anywhere (stupid, I know). Is there another option, such as using someone else's installation disk (since nothing is actually installed from the installation disk in this process, right?) or does it have to be my own installation disk? It is an old MacBook (2007), running OSX 10.6.3. Thanks in advance!

Okay so I got my hands on another installation disk, inserted the disk and restarted the computer while holding down the 'c' key. But when the computer started up an error message appeared saying "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer. If you want to restore from a Time Machine backup, click 'Restore from Backup.'" When I started down that path of restoring from my time machine backups it warned me that everything on my startup disk would be wiped, and that seemed like a bad idea, so I backed out of that process and am now not sure how to proceed. I have read that with OS X newer than 10.5 I should be able to do it via wifi, without having to use an installation disk...?

  • T430s Recovery with Factory Recovery Disks

    Hello,
I have a T430s. My original hard drive is dying so I got a new one. Before swapping the hard drives, I created the factory recovery disks (1 "boot media" + 3 "data media"). After installing the new hard drive, I boot with the first DVD (the "boot media") and it only goes to the system image option. It tells me to insert the last DVD of the system image, but obviously I have the factory recovery disks, not a system image disk. So it doesn't recognize any of the three data DVDs as the "last DVD". There is no factory recovery option, it only goes to the system image option. How can I restore to factory settings with my DVDs on my new hard drive? Do I have to use a CD/DVD to boot into R&R somehow, and if so, how?
    Thanks!

There is no "full recovery " option. Do you mean to say factory image recovery instead?
When you run a recovery, make sure that you connect the usb recovery media to a usb 2.0 port if one is available.

  • Computer stolen along with ipod installer disk

I have a new computer now but itunes wont recognize my ipod without installing the disk. Can I download the disk? And if I do install the software will it then restore my ipod and delete all of my music?
    I appreciate any help offered.
    Thanks!

You can get iTunes and the latest iPod Updater programs via these links:
    iTunes Download Page
    iPod Updater
If you do not have a backup of your iTunes songs, then you'll need to recover them from the iPod.
    These links will give you
    i several
methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists, ratings, counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search if the links below leave you wanting…

  • Is there any way to download new touchsmart apps or am I stuck with factory installs?

I just got a new TX2 1300 laptop from the HP website. I was disappointed to learn that the touchsmart hulu application wasn't factory installed like the model I viewed in Best Buy. I also could not find a way to successfully add this app to my tiles or download it online. Is there any way I can add new touchsmart applications? If not, it seems misleading that such applications such as netflix and hulu are advertised but cannot be installed. Can anyone help?

I will look into the touchpak. Is there no way to get other apps for touchsmart other than what is factory installed. Why wouldnt HP launch an app store simliar to the iphone where consumers can buy applications?

  • Reinstalling iWorks with no installation disk!

My MacBook Pro was stolen a few weeks ago but thru Find My Friends I was able to locate it and get it back. But when I got it back my entire drive was wiped. Unfortunately, it was not backed up. I need to reinstall the iWorks software that I purchased several years ago but I can't find the disk. Do I have any other options besides purchasing the software again?

    MS,
The disks are remarkably inexpensive on eBay and Amazon, the last time I looked. Not worth too much hassle trying to get a free replacement. On the other hand, you could always purchase a new Mac and get the latest iWork for free .

  • Cannot reboot Mac OS X even with installation disk

    Hi,
After I struggled with the OpenDirectory setup - making the system
as standalone OpenDirectory server, I reboot my MacPro expecting
better behavior (I have FTP problem which I don't understand).
Then the machine never boots up - even with Tiger Installation
    Disk in the DVD slot.
I'm new to Mac Server operation/management - any idea how to
    recover it ?
    Thanks for your help !

  • G5 Switches to Auto Speed with Installation Disk and Overheats

My G5 overheats when set to "Automatic" mode in the Energy Saver window of System Preferences. I must leave it set on "Reduced" speed. However, when I startup from the installation disk it sets the speed at Automatic and I cannot complete tasks like "repair permissions" and make an image of my boot drive before the fans go turbo and the processor (I presume) overheats.
How can I set energy saver to "reduced" when booting up with the installation disk or, how can I solve the overheat problem ( Cleaning dust out of the inside has no effect on the overheating/driving problem. I keep it very clean.) Could a bad video card cause this?

Can you please provide details on the exact model?
For a start, the PRAM battery is likely dead.  PRAM tells the computer which drive to start with, other basic information.  Still, you can usually get the computer to start, though bad PRAM is unpredictable and could be stopping that.
Some computer models use software to control cooling fans.  If there's no software commands they automatically go into high speed to prevent overheating.  Your software obviously isn't loading, so runaway fans.

  • Macbook Pro didn't come with Installation disk

Hello. My 13inch Macbook pro just arrived today. It's Mac OS X Lion 10.7. After powering it up my first order of buisness was to install windows 7 through bootcamp. Then I made the discovery that this Macbook didn't come with an installation disk which I find damned odd. I checked the box and the little notebook holders, and there's no disk. This thing isn't even a day out of the box, so should I call apple and see if they'll send me one or is there something I'm missing?

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

  • Starting up from installation disk/filevault 2 problems

I'm trying to get filevault 2 going on Lion. When I do I get an error message telling me I need to reformat my disk and reinstall Lion. I have tried running disk repair, that has identified I have a problem with my disk being corrupted. Disk repair has instructed my to reboot with an installation disk in order to repair it. However, I have installed Lion already and am therefore unable to create an installation disk. I have also tried a number of times restarting using "command-R", but this does not work either. I've also tried using a Snow Lepoard installation disk, which didn't work.I was previously using PGP encryption with Snow Leopard, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I decrypted my hard disk and uninstalled it before upgrading.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

What happens is this: the apple logo appears, the daisy wheel spins, but then the screen goes blank. There is a lot of whirring from the innards, but eventually this all goes quite (Im still holding down the 'c' key). Then nothing. Ive waited up to 10 mins for some signs of life, but no joy.
First, I'd expect booting from the installation disk to take a long time.
I don't agree. I have never seen it take nearly as long as described above, nor had the screen go black for ten minutes. When I boot from the Mac OS X install disk on any of my Macs, it takes maybe a couple minutes. Longer than when booting from a hard drive, yes, but 10 minutes is not reasonable.
Based on the description above, I would guess that either the install disk is bad or the hardware is bad. Either way, a trip to the Genius Bar would probably be recommended.

  • Installer disk could not be found bootcamp problem

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to download windows 7 on my mid-2011 iMac with bootcamp assistant. After selecting the option "Save a copy on an external drive", downloading the WindowsSupport helper, and partioning the disc and clicking install, it comes up with "The installer disk could not be found". Could someone please help me come up with a way to solve this problem please.
Also, how do you tell if you are going to download the 64-bit version of windows 7 ultimate/premium/starter?

By the way guys I am using bootcamp 4. something

  • MacBook Pro without an installation disk.

So, the new mountain lion MacBook Pro did not come with an installation disk, if you need to make a complete backup
and reinstall every application, etc from scratch, what do you do?

Welcome to the brave new world. A parting "gift" from Steve, who loathed optical media in the last part of his life.
There are two choices. The official one is to concoct a bootable recovery partition on a USB stick. Essentially, you transfer what the drive already has for recovery purposes onto separate media in case the hard drive bites the dust completely:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848
But we devious Mac hackers went one better. Why settle for a piddly recovery disk that does not have a full system installer when you can have it all? So we go thru the motions of "installing" ML afresh, for which you wheedle the full installer from Apple. But then we use that to create a USB stick that has the whole cat in it and does not need to go thru the painfully slow download again. Details here: http://www.macworld.com/article/1165337/create_a_bootable_lion_install_drive_for _newer_macs.html and to simplify the creation of the stick itself, there's LionDiskMaker (that also works with the mountain cat): http://liondiskmaker.com

  • Running Mavericks on an iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, I've been trying to install Adobe CS3. All components install except InDesign. Is this an installation disk problem or is it not compatible with the OS?

Running Mavericks on an iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, I've been trying to install Adobe CS3 Design Premium. All components install except InDesign. Is this an installation disk problem, or is there a compatibility problem with the OS?

I fear that you are trying to download OLDER Software on a newer Operating Sysytem Meaning that you need to Install the Latest Version of Adobe on the Newer Operating System for it to work Properly. Be sure to always check the minimum System Requirements.
