Reloading Elements 10

I had a hard drive crash.  Had backup data files to transfer.  Reloaded Elements 10 but now it cannot find video and sound files used to construct projects before the crash.

Welcome to the forum.
Just to make sure that I understand the situation, let me know if this is what happened:
HDD crashed
OS and PrE were installed on new HDD
Data files, such as the Projects' PREL's, and all media were restored from your image/backup.
Now, PrE 10 cannot find the media, used in a Project.
Let me know if that is correct.
When you Open a Project in PrE 10, what error/warning messages do you get? This can be important.
When you restored the backup of your media files, are they now located in exactly the same place/Path, as they were before?
Good luck,
Hunt

What OS are you on? If on Mac, go to //Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers/Uninstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. On Windows XP, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and find Photoshop Elements 9 on the list. If on Windows Vista/7, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and find Photoshop Elements 9 on the list.
Once you have uninstalled the software, reinstall using the disk.
If you are getting errors about authority, this would have to do with the user account you are currently logged in as. Make sure you are logged into an account that has full administrative privileges.

  • Elements 9 - effects do not load

I  checked content and effects in the windows menu bar, but I do not see any effects in the panel. Also, I have a very limited # of content items. I have selected show all. I see no frames, text etc.
I reloaded Elements 9 but still do not see the effects and content
    Any suggestions?

There may be a problem with the database that stores the effects information. You will need to try rebuilding it.
    Shut down Elements.
    For Windows XP:
Rename (or delete) the file MediaDatabase.db3 in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop
    Elements\X.0\Locale\en_US.
    For Windows Vista/Windows 7:
Rename (or delete) the file MediaDatabase.db3 in the C:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\X.0\Locale\en_US.
Note: If you cannot see the above folders, you will need to do the following:
    Windows XP
    Open the Control Panel
Select Appearance and Themes (if viewing in Category style).
    Click Folder Options
    Select the View tab
Select Show hidden files and folders
    Click OK
    Windows Vista and Windows 7
    Open the Control Panel.
    Select Appearance and Personalization.
Click Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Select Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives
    For Mac OS X:
Rename (or delete) the file MediaDatabase.db3 in the [your startup drive]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/X.0/Locale/en_US/.
Open Elements again. The database will rebuild itself (this may take some time) and the content should return.

  • Elements 7: Unable to view or edit files with extension cr2

Had to reload elements 7 after disk crash. Restored from backups. Unable to view or edit files with extension cr2

Unable to view or edit files with extension cr2
Which Canon camera model? Elements 7 is probably just too old to use the required Camera Raw plugin for your camera.

  • Upgrading from Elements 8 to 11

I purchased Elements 8 from Amazon as a CD and upgraded to Elements 11 by downloading from the Adobe website. I am changing computers and would like to know how to go about reloading Elements 11. Do I still require my CD copy of Elements 8 and then redownload E11 from the website? Or will I be able to go directly to my account in the Adobe website and download E11 without having to resort to my copy of E8?
    Thanks

Use backup and restore starting in PSE8 on your old computer. It's easiest using an external hard drive.
Install PSE11 on the new computer, plug in your extrnal drive and use the restore command; navigating to the TLY file which contains all of your catalog as well as the images.
See these notes for all versions from PSE6 and above.

  • Elements 13 editor freezes constantly

Upgraded from Elements 8 to Elements 13 last week.  Elements Editor freezes after about 8 images now. Organizer is fine.  I have Windows 7, 64 bit.  I am scanning slides using Epson V500 into a file outside of Elements (no Twain any more).  I open 6-20 images in Editor after scanning.  I rotate, straighten, crop all images.  When this is done for all images, I add file info & save.  After anywhere from 4-40 images have been done, I get the checkerboard so I can't see the image in Editor.  I can see the image in the Photo Bin.  When I click on File Info, image appears, but I can't zoom, or anything else.  I can add the file info & save (thank you!), but when I'm done, I have to close down Editor with the Task Manager, program has stopped responding.  I also close Organizer, but it's working fine & I close it normally.  This was happening after about 40 images, 2 days ago after about 20 images, today after about 4 images.
I have Editor, Organizer, Scanner & AOL open.  I use Organizer & AOL to verify file info.  I have over 22,000 images done like this in Elements 8 (scanned directly into Photoshop at that time), but Organizer started crashing.  So I updated to newer version.  I have several thousand images left to scan, so this is going to take forever if I have to close & reload Elements after every 6 images.  Help!

    Thanks, Brian.
Epson doesn't have WIA support.  I scan into a separate folder, then open them in the Editor.  I scan anywhere from 6-20 images at a time.  I was able to do 20 at a time, twice (so total of 40) before the Editor froze.  Now, just 6 images freezes the Editor.  (Editor in version 8 I could do 30 or more at a time, never had a problem)
My process is to scan images; open all images in editor; rotate (as necessary), straighten, crop all images; for each image add file info then save, then close that image.  At this point, I've been able to save 3-4 images, close them, before the image freezes.  The weird thing (I'm very grateful for this however), is that when I click on file info, I can see the image (not do anything to it), add the file info, save & close.  Next image is the checkerboard also, but again, clicking on file info lets me add info, save & close.  Images seem fine in the organizer, info is there, and after I reload editor, everything with the saved image seems fine.  At least I'm not losing all my rotate, straighten & crop work.
I'm currently doing slides, so scanning at 1200 dpi (larger pics are at scanned at 600), saving as PDF.
I have 8.00 GB RAM.  Scratch disc is default (c), free space is 807.60 GB.  Available RAM is 7102 MB, lets Photoshop use 4971 MB.
Thanks very much for your help.  I do appreciate it.  I have over 6,000 more images to scan, so this will be very time-consuming if I can't get a resolution.

  • Elements catalogue restoration

A Happy New Year to all.  I think I've made a fundamental mistake and would appreciate any help in resolving it.
On old PC, ran Elements 6 - had a number of albums set up to organise my photos.  Upgraded my PC.  Foolishly did not run Elements catalogue back-up procedure, as I should have done, but simply copied all the files in the catalogue location on my PC - which I found in the "system info" option under the "Help" menu.  Set up new PC and loaded Lightroom 3.  It found, and imported all the photos in my "Pictures" folder OK.  However, none of the previous Elements album information was captured so that level of organisation disappeared.
To try and fix this, I reloaded Elements 6 on my new PC, but am not able to "restore" the catalogue as I did not back it up.  Tried pointing it to the files I copied from the catalogue location above, but it's searching for a file with an extension which is not there (obviously the back-up file).
Any ideas on how I can resolve the problem and recover my "lost" albums?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Harry

Thanks for your reply.  The old PC is now unavailable.  I've now decided that it's a lost cause and have resorted to setting all my old Elements albums up as "collections" on Lightroom.  With 22,000 images, that'll be a good day's work.
Not a mistake I'll be making again.
    Thanks,
    Harry

  • Question About Reinstalling Elements 11

I have a brand new laptop that I purchased specifically to edit photos while on the road.  The first thing I did when I received it a couple days ago was to load Elements 11 (the second computer I loaded this version onto from disc).  The second thing I did was inadvertantly uninstall a couple of other pre-loaded programs I need, while trying to self-teach myself Windows 8.  Since the computer is so new, I figured I would just restore to factory settings, but I'm worried that will erase the Elements program I loaded, and, because I've already loaded the program twice, will not be able to use the disc again to restore it to this machine.  Am I wrong in thinking I cannot reload Elements onto a machine it has previously been loaded onto?  Or does the program recognize that it is a machine where it has previously been loaded, and let me reinstall? Thanks for any help you can provide.
    J. Hajduk

First you have to deactivate Photoshop. If it is ok you can find the deactivate button on the Help screen. Then you can remove Photoshop from you computer. Go back to factory settings and install Photoshop again. Be sure to deactivate first before you remove Photoshop.

  • Elements 12 crash

I have recently bought Elements 12 and was trying to upload all my 7000+ photos to Revel when some runtime error message came up that made Elements crash; when I reload Elements 12 it says it cannot access my catalog as it is being used by another programme.  Yet I have no other programmes running! Any ideas how to fix please?

    Boney,
    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Could you kill these exe from task manager and retry: ElementsOrganizerRevelAgent.exe, AutoAnalyzer.exe. On re-launch, please restart your Revel Agent again from Edit>Preferences>Adobe Revel.
Let me know if this does not help.

What an amazingly simple solution. Thanks for that! You would think that with many people using GB for podcasts, that when you select the podcast template they would either eliminate the need for the tempo selection, or default you to 40bpm. Thanks again!

  • Elements 6 - Recovering catalog and tags

I needed to redo my machine so I lost everything locally.  Luckily, I was able to make a ghost image of my machine before wiping it clean.
My question is, since reloading elements 6, I have to tags and no catalog.  I would prefer to somehow recover the data from the backup but I'm not sure what files to bring over.
Any suggestions on the best way to do this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the tip!!!
I was able to do it (mostly) but it didn't go as smoothly as possible.  But I figured I would just document what I did.
Prior to me resetting my computer to the factory settings I was able to get a ghost image.
After the 'refresh' I installed elements 6, restored the photo's and imported them into elements only to find that the catalog wasn't the 'old' catalog.
    Sooooo,
I deleted ALL of the photos from the catalog.  I was able to find the catalog file you mentioned and restored it from the ghost image.
Now, the catalog had all of my  tags, albums, etc, but it displayed no images.  (Just the blank boxes...over 3,000 of them.)
So, thinking I was being clever I deleted all of these from the catalog.
Now, all I needed to do was find all the pictures again and load them into the catalog.  The pictures had the tags connected to them so everything seemed to import fine.
I guess a round about way to do it (backing up the catalog prior would have been ideal) but finally got this thing back to the way it was prior to me having system problems.
Thanks for all of the help.

Probably not on a recent Mac; but possibly yes on a PC. Why not give it a try?
