Reloading Factory Key Commands

Ugh. I've been trying to reload the midi key commands to the way they were when I first installed. I can't find an original file. I read one post that said there would be a file in preferences. What would it be called as I couldn't locate it?
I was trying to set up a footswitch through my Motu and I chose "initialize" key commands thinking it would revert to factory settings - now it's on something funky.
Thanks.
Andy

Hmm...
I started with logic on a powerbook set up. I wonder
if that's the problem. Recently I switched to a
tower set up. If I'm understanding you correctly,
it's possible that I migrated my powerbook
preferences to the new tower?? That would have
allowed me to stick with my powerbook keycommands up
until now - when I reinitalized it all??
Yes, that seems likely. If you re-run the Logic Setup Assistant, you can select the PowerBook key command set and it will modify your preferences accordingly. Or, you should be able to import them from the key command window if you have a copy of your old preferences file somewhere.
Whatever you decide to do, make a backup copy of your current preferences file just in case

  • Custom Key Command w/o using a Modifier Key?

    There are several key commands that I wish to assign (actually just want to change) in LP8. But the ones I want to change are all using modifier keys, so this requires two keys. And the secondary modifier key area, the ones you check with a check-mark box (i.e. shift, control option, command)is grayed out, so it cannot be changed. Is there any way around this?
    For example: I want to re-assign one of the factory key-commands for "Go to selection start", to just be the return key. The factory key-command for this function, is hold shift & return.

    You should be able to select the key command, enable learn by key label, hit delete key to clear. Then type key choice.

  • What keys to assign Key Commands to

    Is there anyone out there that has really got a good system for assigning Key Commands to groups of keys? My KC system has developed sort of spasmodically as I have got to know the Logic over the years.. and without proper 'town planning' things are getting over crowded on my Apple Keyboard.
    I would appreciate comments from anyone who has a 'logical' mind who thinks they have a good system/choice for which keys to programme groups of key commands for ease of workflow. In particular I would be interested in:
    - Score Editor
    - Midi writing
    - Automation
    along with a word about favourite key commands
    thanks in advance
    MS

    Suggest orienting as many of your key commands on the LH side of the keyboard so that you can keep your RH hand on the mouse.
    The following is just a sampling of my k/c assignments; at this point I've been using these so long that I couldn't tell you if any of them resemble the factory k/c assignments, but anyway, here's a short list that don't use any modifier keys:
    F1 = event editor (lists)
    F2 = matrix/piano roll (within arrange)
    F3 = score editor (arrange)
    right below that...
    1 = event editor (opens separate window)
    2 = piano roll (sep. window)
    3 = score editor (sep. window)
    ESC = close window
    Q = quantize
    A = catch on/off
    V = toolbox
    D = MIDI out toggle (in editors)
    C = cycle
    H = hyperdraw autodefine
    F = continue (need to press it 2x to play when Logic is stopped)
    B = browser (media)
    L = library
    X = set locators to region and play
    Note how except for "H" and "L" (a new addition for L8) they're all on the LH side of the keyboard, and no modifier keys needed.
    Some RH-oriented key commands include:
    \[ = set left locator w/o rounding
    ] = set right locator w/o rounding
    Those plus SHIFT give me the same functions but with rounding
    As for key commands with modifiers, you might want to set up a system for yourself where you reserve specific modifier keys (or combinations of modifiers) for certain categories of tasks. For example, you could reserve CNTRLSHIFTkey for score editor-specific commands, such as:
    D = defeat interpretation
    F = force interpretation
    B = beam selected
    U = unbeam selected
    . = add staccato to selected notes
    - = add tenuto to selected notes
    < = crescendo
    ">" = diminuendo
    ( = slur below
    ) = slur above
    # (actually, "3") = enharmonic shift #
    @ (actually, "2") = enharmonic shift b
    ...and so on... Note that these aren't all LH oriented, but I like the idea of using character shapes ("<" = cresc.) as mneumonics where possible.
    In general I'llI use CNTRLOPT+SHIFTCMD for "dangerous" (global) operations such as changing all tracks to READ or TOUCH. Speaking of automation...
    I have F9 programmed to turn plug-in automation on/off. But toggling this without having the automation prefs visible means that you'll be toggling this function in the blind. So I have F10 programmed to open the automation prefs panel.
    Ultimately I'd suggest that you set up your key commands so that they make sense to you.

  • Clash of Mac and Logic Key Command Assignments

    Greetings to all
    I use a Mac Powerbook G4 laptop 15" Model 5,8
    In Logic I have keys F9-F12 programmed as the slow and fast rewind forward and back ( ie 4 commands in all)
    The Mac factory programmed short cuts, F11 and F12 are usually used for Expose/Mac functions but are reprogrammable, so I went into System Preferences/Keyboard and reprogrammed them as OPTION F11 and F12 for Mac functions.
    This then allowed me to use F11 and F12 for the dedicated Logic function.
    However, Apple System Preferences for some reason does not 'remember' the reprogrammed keyboard short cut ... which means that each time I boot up Logic, I have to go into System Preferences and reprogramme the short cuts in Apple again.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?

    Hi
    Sounds like you are still using the (old) Logic 8 (?) key commands. Zoom was changed in the Logic 9 defaults to Control+Option and the arrow keys.
    Control Arrow L/R controls Mission Control in Lion (ie 'Spaces').
    You could change the defaults in System Preferences:

    the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
    The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
    When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
    As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
    When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
    Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

    Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
    My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
    I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
    Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • An iTunes key command I created no longer works after the recent update

    I created a key command years ago for joining tracks. (Command-J) When the iTunes 11 update happened, it stopped working. I know it is the same key command for View options but it always worked before. So even if I make it a new command, it still won't work.
    Anyone else have a similar problem?
    Thanks

  • Can not find the Automation Folder.... neither its Key Command...HELP

    I would be grateful to anyone who could find a solution to the following issue:
    I have read in Logic's 7.2.3 help reference about track automation folder. The sort of arrange window that seems to lurk behind the main arrange page and the place where you can treat the automation data as proper region material. I have tried everything, .. there does not seem to be any key command of the sort, more over I can not find any other way that could give me access to such an editor like the Automation Folder.
    Thank you for reading this.
    Nik

    • 1 • If you choose 'New Track' from the Menu, or use Control-Click-&-hold, you can select from the various options.
    • 2 • No, you don't need to do anything — it's entirely voluntary… I feel guilty for even mentioning it… I just thought that since you seem to be genuinely grateful for the help you have been getting, you had probably not read the article fully. I see that you have just had a useful reply from John Alcock, so now's your chance!

  • Key commands in Logic 8

    Can anyone confirm this:
    I have always used the key command "ctrlshift1" to attach "staccatto" to a note in score.
    If I now use this key command now, I only get screenset 1, no matter what I do.
    Could this be related to the scandinavian localization? (shortcuts in scandinavian localization were an issue in Logic 7 until they released a fix)
    Michael

    Logic 8 is not properly reporting KC conflicts here in my system. I have spent a few hours eye checking for different KC assigned to same key combinations. Now everything seems to work fine.
    Maybe you have a third kc assigned to ctrl + shift + 1 thats causing logic to behave that way. You could try to reproduce this from a fresh initialized LP8's KC.

  • How Can I Fast Forward through clips - Any key Command?

    I am watching some long clips in my event library ... I want to choose sections to move to the project library.
    As the movie plays ... I can use the arrow (left and right) to slow mo forward or backward.
    What I need is a key command that will give me a fast forward ... say 2 or 3 times play speed.
    The only way I know to fast forward is to use the trackpad with my fingers but this way I keep losing my position on the clips and skip over rows ... you also have to drag back to the beginning of the next row and know where you are ..
    To find parts of clips that you want to select and drag up to your project this seems like a necessity especially when viewing a long movie ... it's really tedious to have to drag through the whole thing.
    AM I out of luck?

    What is the default key command for THE COMMAND (apple) key? I seem to have changed it somehow along the way and now when I push the command key (only) it hides all open windows and shows the desk top and when I push it again it shows all windows again...I need to return to default A.S.A.P. just this one key...Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

    Go to
     > System Preferences > Keyboard
    Click on the 'Keyboard' tab and hit the 'modifier keys...' button. You can see and change the defaults there.
    As I'm not sure if all the labels are the same in Lion, he's a screenshot from Snow Leopard. It should be similar enough:

  • Close one tab at a time with key commands

    Hi all,
    I'm a big key command guy. I think I've figured out most things so I rarely have to go for the trackball and leave the keyboard.
    But recently (I think since an upgrade to Safari, but I can't be 100% sure), my previous command-W that used to close the frontmost tab now closes the entire window...bummed! How do I get my key command back?
    Thanks all.

    Start with resetting all shortcuts to their defaults, restarting, and see if that fixes the problem. As I said, it works here w/o any changes made, so I suspect you or some other app mucked things up.

    __ Is there a way to adjust the key commands for switching channels in curves?
    By that I mean <command> + 1 for cyan, <command> + 2 for magenta etc. like Photoshop CS3 rather than <option> + 3 for cyan etc.
    There's gotta be a way under Edit --> Keyboard Shortcuts - but I can't find it!
    Thanks,

    It used to be the - (minus) button on logic pro 7. I haven't been able to find it in the new one. or in the pdf manual. Anybody know of hand?
    thank you

    Open the Key Command window. Choose any command. Hit the learn button and type in the command. A message will appear telling you what the command is already assigned to. Then you can change it.

  • Key Command for "Go to Next Marker" doesn't work properly

    Hi there!
    While using Logic Pro 9.1.8 with Mountain Lion (10.8.2), it seems that the Key Command for "Go to Next/Previous Marker" doesn't work properly.
    The only effect is, that a grey rectangle moves in the top of the Arrange Area while ignoring the Markers itself.
    Any suggestions to solve it or is it me that is misbehaving?
    Cheers, GJ

    Hi
    The commands work correctly here on the same OS etc: Cycle Locators jump to the next/prev marker and the Playhead jumps to the Start of the Marker.
    Default KC are Control Command +Arrow Left/right
    Step 1: check you are using the correct key command :-)
