Relocating all Applications from shared to user account

OSX 10.9.1 and a simple Admin user account and all I need to do is move all my applications from the shared applications folder in /Volumes/Applications/ to /Volumes/Users/Username/Applications/
And when I do I get aliases being created... never seen this before and can't figure it out.
I am wanting to clone my entire Mac with CCC in order to reinstall it with a clean Mavericks and having the Apps in the user account is step one in the clean up.

Not simple, since most of those moves and deletes rerquire admin permissions to delete. Also, you might be surprised when you install an OS update and it fails to find the Apple apps in the root-level Applications folder. Anyway, whether they reside in the root-level or user's Apps folder buys you nothing. That's why I asked why do you want to do it?

I've already deleted the user and clicked "Delete Immediately" to remove the user account and all the user's files, but a lot of their files and applications still show up in my Finder (and take up tons of storage space). Is there a way to permanently delete all of the old stuff?

The applications are stored in a global folder to be used by everyone, so deleting a user doesn't delete the programs installed.
If you don't want to do it manually, you could backup what files you do want to keep off the machine and erase OS X and everything in it's entirety and then reinstall it with the programs you want then files last.

Why can't i import photos from a different user account?

Why when i import photos to iphoto from my user account it works fine. If i try importing them from the other user account it the photo it shows the event folder in the events page but when you go into it there are no photos, and when you close the app it dissappears completely. I dont understand why it is doing this? The iphoto library is actually from the other user account so there shoudnlt be any sharing issues. The only thing is that i iorignially installed on the other user account but it all started when i updated it to iphoto11 and installed it on my account. that shouldnt make a difference though??
Also if it is not possible to be able to import from both accounts how can i change it so that the other account is able to import only and not from my account?

I do almost all my work from a standard user account. Firefox neither automatically updates (as I set it to) or informs me an update is available.

I claim that administrator accounts are for administering, or developing; not using. I wouldn't be an administrator for longer than is necessary than walk down the centre of a highway with my eyes closed.
I'll repeat: Mozilla really should prevent the 'Update' button showing to an ordinary user if it's not going to be possible to use it.

I got new laptop for work use and I am installing creative cloud on it. However laptop ain't that fast and I am wondering that would it be possible to install creative cloud applications from shared windows folder, since I have downloaded and installed all creative cloud applications on my desktop machine already and laptop is intented for working while not at home.rpr
This would increase installing speed since all those needed files would be available from Local Area Network, which is faster and my broadband and it also would allow hard drive to focus on installing files instead of current simulataneous reading and writing to same hard drive.

How do I transfer my itunes library from different mac user accounts?

I was planning to make a new user account (not itunes) for myself on my mac since my other is completely screwed up, but if i do this i will lose my itunes account. How do i transfer my library from the old user account to the new one.

Using administrator status on the computer you should be able to move the whole iTunes folder from one account to the other. Put it in the equivalent music folder.

You cannot. You have to make your own download by signing into the App Store using your Apple ID then downloading the file.
If you just want to install it on your computer, then copy the file to a flash drive and transfer it to your computer.

It might be caused by storage "buffering". If so, the space will adjust automatically when another iCloud feature uses the space previously allocated to your deleted email. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4873.

Originally I thought it was the old Moutain Lion DVD drive issue (but have had the drive recently replaced by Apple), so I tried creating a new account, which worked.
In the old account I have reset SMU, Pram... but no change.

Imagine a MacBook with 2 user accounts on it. User A has an iPad and wants to sync their own Music to it. However, User A wants User B's iPhoto library synced to their iPad. User A also wants User B's Calendars synced to their iPad.

How do I enable Find My Mac from a Standard User Account

Hi there,
I'm trying to enable Find My Mac from a Standard User account via System Preferences > iCloud, but it says Administrator authorization is required. However, there is no padlock like other System Preferences panes have to enable Administrator access.
If I log into the Administrator user, it doesn't have iCloud set up.
Any ideas?

Yes, Its registered. clcking on icloud shows Icloud is unticked and no option to enable it as its greyed out. That is the part I am trying to overcome. Also It shows "recovery system update required" just below find my mac and an update button next to that. When I then click on update, it says system up to date. I have been told this issue could be attributed to Filevault. I disabled Filevault (after 5 hours of waiting), Doing so now meant I was able to enable guest user on this machine. but that means my data is not encrypted and the option to enable find my mac still not available.
I am in the process of re-enabling filevault. Another 4 hours to go. So as you can see, I am really stuck.

Share files from the Library/Application Support folder between user accounts?

I am using Mac OS 10.10.2, and am having trouble with allowing my son's user account to see his Minecraft files which are on my user account (User/Library/Application Support/Minecraft) how do I make it so that Minecraft will find and use these files rather than the empty folder on his own user account?

Thank you! I should have thought of that. So, what I actually did was go into finder, "get info" on the Minecraft folder, and check the "share folder" box in the info window. I was then able to open his saved worlds on his account, and doing it this way will mean any changes to them can be accessed from my account as well.

Application sharing between user accounts - Handbrake

Hello... this is my first Mac and I have a question. I have 2 users accounts....one for work and one for personal.....I installed Handbrake while logged in my personal account. When I logged in to my work account I can not find Handbrake under my applications. I did notice that when I am running Handbrake under my personal account that Handbrake comes up on my desktop as what appears o be a drive...wierd...or maybe not wierd....since I am new to a Mac I am not sure how this works. My question is: How can I use Handbrake while logged into my work account as well as when I am logged in my personal account?

If you put the handbrake application in /Applications then both accounts will be able access it. Your work account and personal account has two different desktops, so that's why you cannot see/use handbrake. By putting it on /Applications you'll correct this issue

Moving itunes account from one windows user account to another....

Hello! I really hope some one here can help!
I use one of two user accounts on my comp, my boyfriend is the "owner" and I have my own. For separate itunes accounts .... Something is messed up with my profile on this user account and an IT friend told me he thinks that I should just delete my whole profile from the OWNER one and start over, saving anything i need beforehand.
I was about to do that until I realised that my Itunes account would also be gone.
Is there any way that I can transfer my itunes account to another user account on my computer without losing everything and having to start over???

Well, if all of the music is in My Music\iTunes, then just copy that folder.
If it isn't:
If it's in a shared location, such as the root of the drive, and both account are accessing it, then ignore the music, and transfer just the 'iTunes' folder within My Music.
If it's in an account specific location (like on your desktop), first consolidate it to your My Music, then transfer that folder.

Sharing multiple user accounts to AppleTV on one Mac

I can't remember if I did this before with software 1.0/1.1, but I'm sure the possibility of having two concurrently active iTunes libraries on a single machine has been discussed as one way of separating out content.
To do some more testing on software 2.00 + libraries I have just created a new user account with a new iTunes library, and registered it as a shared AppleTV library on AppleTV 2 running 2.01 (I've not updated to 2.02 yet for a reason).
So imagine this setup:
Single iMac.
User Account A - called iMac - the main sync/share library.
User Account B - called Test - the sharing library.
Both Users iTunes apps open (switching between users obviously without logging out).
AppleTV listed under devices in both iTunes instances.
Both iMac and Test libraries solid white in 'Computers' setting on AppleTV.
Can play iMac content logged into User account A having switched from B.
I select My Shared Music - long wait - says it's not connected to shared Test library, and checking Computers 'Test' is now greyed out.
Switching to user B the AppleTv is still listed under Devices. I still cannot connect to My Shared Music and 'Test' Library remains greyed out. I can still while logged into B play the sync/share content of User A - I had expected I would be able to do the converse.
Both iTunes libraries show the other library under shared libraries in iTunes.
This is baffling me.
Rebooted etc etc etc.
iTunes can see the shared library of the other user account but AppleTV can't.

The main sync/stream library content is available on AppleTV regardless of which account I'm logged into on the iMac. I have nothing at all synced so know that I'm seeing the "main" iMac library streaming.

I've just updated iTunes as I hadn't done the last update but no difference.
