Relocating iTunes and songs

I need to reinstall Windows (ads/alert windows driving me nuts in the bottom right corner). My room-mate partitioned my hard drive for me (I'm still not very good with this stuff, and he's not as good as he thinks he is, either), and he says I need to move everything I want to keep onto the new "drive" he created. Obviously I want to keep all of my iTunes and 7,000 songs. Last time I moved anything in iTunes (a folder containing about 20 songs), iTunes couldn't find it and I had to relocate each individual song in the folder manually. I don't want to do that with 7,000 songs (!!), so I need to know if iTunes is going to be able to find them on the new drive (iTunes will be on the new drive, too), and if not, if there's any way to "help" it find them! I'm not looking forward to the 20 or 30 (or more??) hours it would take to relocate each individual song and video!!!
Orrrr, although this isn't Apple-related, is there a way to get rid of these stupid pop-up windows in the bottom right corner of Windows?? One is a yellow triangle with a ! and tells me I have a Trojan (I already ran Adware and got rid of everything) and one is a yellow question mark alternating with a yellow X in a blue circle.

Can you save your itunes and songs onto an external hard drive so that incase your computer crashes you will still have all your music?

The procedures below are for "moving" your library but as long as you don't delete it from your internal drive you are basically backing up.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Simple answer:  Copy your whole iTunes folder to the external drive.  For subsequent backups you might want to learn about cloning and using a tool that only does incremental backups of recently changed items rather than copying all your files each time.

  • How do you move iTunes and songs from old PC to new PC?

I currently have iTunes installed on my work PC with Windows XP Pro. I want to move iTunes and all my songs to my home PC which is running Windows Vista Home Edition. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes to my home PC and need to figure out a way to move all my music from my work PC to my home PC. I tried backing up all my music to 2 CD-RW discs and then drag and drop them into iTunes on my home PC. The music shows up in iTunes but I am not able to play it in iTunes. Any ideas why? Is there a better way to move my music from one PC to another?

Have you seen this article about using your iPod to trnasfer your music:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
The same basic method works whatever storage device you use.
As for the CD Problem, do the tracks have excamation marks next to them in iTunes?
If So you may not have iTunes set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked.
    See Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced.
If this option was not checked, the files stayed on the CDS.

  • Problem with iTunes and song in iPhone..

    grazie =)

    Hello and welcome....
i removed pwntunes from my iphone, but still having same problem.
Try restarting your iPhone. Turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments. Now turn the Phone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Before you try syncing with your PC again, launch iTunes. Select the Apps tab from the menu. Delete the PWNTunes app then click the Apply button bottom right side of the iTunes window.
    Now try to sync.

  • Saving my iTunes and Songs

Have an issue with the sound on my computer. One possible solution will require me to reinstall Windos XP operating system. Will my itunes songs still be available through my itunes account when I set up my computer again or will I need to back the music up and reload them on my computer once it is repaired.

No it will not be available.
Yes, you need to back it up before you erase anything.
You can copy \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ folder to an external drive then copy it back after you install the new OS and install iTUness.

  • Difference Between # of Songs in iTunes and Songs on iPod?

Is there a way to compare the songs in iTunes to the songs on my iPod and see the discrepancies? There is only a 1 song difference between the two out of 4800+ and I don't want to waste a lot of time looking for it. Actually, I won't bother but I'm kind of anal so it will drive me crazy.

One thing to check is if you have your iPod set to auto sync only checked songs and if so then scan your library and see if you have any songs that are NOT checked.
You can also check for unchecked songs with some Smart Playlist trickery. Create a Smart Playlist that only includes checked songs and just make a silly rule that will include your whole library (e.g. all songs that are not from the year 1111) and call it something like "Checked Songs". All your checked songs will go into that playlist. Now create a new Smart Playlist, leave the checked songs only box UNchecked and then make your rule all songs NOT in the Checked Songs playlist, which of course will simply be anything not checked.

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.

  • TS1363 My ipod nano 5th generation is no longer recognized by itunes, and won't play any of it's music.  It still shows it all listed, but freezes up if you select a song to play.  Is there a way to restore it?

My ipod nano 5th generation will no longer play any of it's loaded songs.  It still plays the video that is on it, and the radio works.  It is not recognized by itunes and I have gone through all their help steps.  Is there some other way to restore it?

If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost under your warranty.

  • IPod is recognized by iTunes and computer, but wil not sync songs

iPod is recognized by iTunes and computer, but wil not sync songs. I have about 1400 songs and just got 40 more, and before I bought those 40 my iTunes was wiped out. I still had the files so my iTunes was filled up again. Now, when I connect my iPod to the computer it is recognized and then it says "do not disconnect" then after a few seconds it says "ipod update is complete- ok to disconnect". but it did not upload any songs. How can I make it work?

If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
Then restore your iPod to factory settings.

  • I have tried to sync my Iphone with my current Itunes and for some reason not all of my music is transferring to my Iphone.  Some songs that were on my phone previously, are now not transferring.  Any ideas?

I have downloaded all of the recent upgrades for both Itunes and Iphone.  Now for some reason, not all of my songs in my playlists are transferring when I sync.  Previously I have had the songs in the playlists on my phone, but now some of them are not there although they are listed and show in Itunes.  Any ideas?

iTunes will only copy back iTunes purchased music. If you don't still have a copy of the music that you copied from CDs or bought from other stores anywhere (e.g. on another computer or on your backup of your library) then there are some third-party programs listed half-way this page which should be able to copy them back : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Have you tried deleting the songs from Settings?
Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage (not the iCloud link!) -> Music and then click Edit to enable you to be able to delete.

  • How do I move iTunes and all songs to new computer without loosing ratings?

I recently purchased a new computer and have been trying to migrate everything to it. I downloaded Itunes to my new computer and moved all music on to the new computer. While I have successfully set up iTunes on the new computer (including setting the proper iTunes Music folder location under Edit/Preferences/Advanced/General), I cannot find a way to import ALL (Over 60 gig) of music into iTunes. The best I have been able to figure out is to add each individual folder from an artist to the library (this would be a HUGE amount of time!) and in so doing I would loose ALL the time I have spent rating songs (very important to me for My Top Rated). Is there a way to import all music on a specific drive into iTunes AND keep the preferences from the prior computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Because once syncing is done it's done there's no "I didn't want it to do that" button to press to go back!
Solution for persons such as myself; picture a white plain screen opening up in the catagory you choose (I'll use music) uncluttered no links taking you inadvetaintly to a screen pitching me something from Apple just all my music catagorized by iTunes the way in which I selected it to be by checking as many of the choices as I want that are list in the "sort" menu. Now before I hit sync at the top there are 3 empty boxes. Positioned clearly and designed by the marketing department who has every page in the store laid out clear clean and in your face making it impossible to START HERE so to speak, they'd unmistakably be simply labeled with 3 basic choices for you to choose from (a fourth "advanced" could be optional) which would be; Box#1 Do Noithing (Leave as is) Box#2 Sync from Device to iTunes Box#3 Sync from iTunes to Device . What you checked is what action iTunes would take. When you pressed "sync" a box would pop up Asking are you sure you want to it would have the selected boxes action here further assuring you wre doing as you wanted .
With these on all the things/catagories that iTunes writes over and erases replacing it with what in my experiance usually is incomplete folders or databases of apps, music, movies, podcasts, books etc.? the misinterpretation of the action you want or choose would almost be eliminated from incorrect interpretation of what you actually want to do.
Please if there's something I can set for all my choices please tell me where and how.
Addionally without doing it one song at a time does iTunes seperate song artist from title automatically some how or do I have to go song by song cut artist and paste in the correct colum?
    Any help is appriciated!!!!!!!!!
