Remaining hard drive space more than actual drive capacity!

I have a retina macbook pro, and installed mountain lion so not sure which forum to put this post in.
I guess posting on Mountain Lion might be better.
My drive says 548GB available on my finder window.
I actually only have 170GB left based on my About My Mac.
The funny thinh is that my flash drive is only 500GB!!!
So why is this happening? Anything I can do to fix it?

That's more than a bit odd.
You may get different figures from the Finder vs. Disk Utility and the Storage display, because of local snapshots, but none ought to show that.
Select the HD and click on Get Info. See if the results agree.

You need more like 50% free on the system.
you need or want 24-48GB RAM for CS6
You want to insure you do not use the boot drive for scratch which CS6 will and will use a lot and hurt performance
Having a couple SSDs on PCIe Sonnet Tempo Pro SSD $300 is a great place for L4/5 catalogue/library, or separate set for CS6 scratch
And all your media of course is not on the boot drive as well.
An SSD boot drive of 120GB $89 or larger, Some large/r SSDs for scratch or/and L4 of 250-750GB or even 1TB.

More than 2 drive?

I can't use more than 2 drives on my TC at a time otherwise I get crashes.
Why is that?

Sorry I have 2 drives connected external and one drive internal on the TC so a total of 3 drives. If I connect a 4th drive or more, the my TC fails to connect any drives.

After downloading updates for the first time, i was asked to restart my mac. it starting writing configuring installation. the staus bar just showed a little and remained like that for more than 3 hrs. i tried several times wit no success.

Disk utility / Startup disk is full when hard drive is more than 400 GB available

Hello, I have an iMac and I want to sell it, I wiped it out and reset to factory settings, so it has more than 450GB free, I am running the disk utility to Erase Free Space and to make sure the personal info its completely remove, but it's telling me half way through that my start up disk is full and then the Disk Utility just stops and it wont finish the process, I have to force quit disk utilities
Does someone know how can I fix this? Thank you so much

I was trying to clean up my hard drive and did the same thing. Do you have a file that was created to clean up in your trash? That may be why your hard drive is now full. I am in the process of trying to empty my trash to get rid of that file and the system won't let it erase all the way. I have a question out there for that as well.

Aperture won't let import images because of inadequate space, even though teh drive has more than terabyte. Any ideas?

Enable Master AXI interface to provide address space more than 32 bit - HLS

Hello everyone,
Is there any specific syntax in HLS to anable Master AXI interface to provide address width more than 32 bit, like 33 bit to support 8G memory space addressing?
For now we can manually modify the Verilog code generated from HLS by changing the AWADDR, ARADDR and related signals from 32 to 33 bit, and make the memory space reach upto 8G.
However this maual process spent us lots of time and the code is hard to maintain expecially when the HLS design becomes more complicated.
Could anyone please help to find a way to expend the AXI address width in HLS? Thanks.

There is an option -m_axi_addr64 to enable upto 64-bit addressing for all M_AXI ports in the config_interface option.

Count of windows in Safari returns one more than actual

First of all I'm completely new to Applescript.
What I do at the moment is to search for scripts that might do something similar to want I want and then modify them to suit my particular requirements.
I have been trying to use a script that searches for a particular URL in Safari.
Here is an excerpt from the script:-

     tell application "Safari"
          set windowCount to count of windows
          repeat ...
     end tell
end tell
The problem is that the value returned by "set windowCount to count of windows" returns a value which is one more than the actual number of Windows that are open.
Can anyone tell me why it is going wrong?

ACR 5.6 preview covers more than actually opens

With the S90 the ACR 5.6 preview covers more image than actually opens in Camera Raw. It does however now match the JPG image when shooting both. It would be nice to have the extra available as an option without having to through the DNG tricks.
With the S90 the Adobe Standard Camera Profile seems to process the image considerably lighter than the JPG or the other camera profiles. I don't see this with the 5D Mk-II.

Does this just apply to process version 2010 or does it also apply to process version 2003?
If it applies to both, and assuming it also will apply to Lightroom 3 (which I plan to upgrade to), I will need to keep an earlier version of LR if I wish to print photographs processed earlier without any changes.
This is not a problem but it is good to know the answer before upgrading.

PS Compliments to the CR/LR team as the noise reduction and sharpness improvements in LR3b2 are great, but sometimes one doesn't wish to spend additional time if reprinting old files.

Looking for 7200 RPM HD with more than 500 Gig capacity

My MacBook Pro's 500G internal drive is nearly full. I want to upgrade to something larger (640G would be fine) but I would like to not step down to 7200 RPM. Does anyone have any recommendations. I have been looking around for one but can't find one.
I wish Seagate would release a 640G version of its Momentus XT 7200RPM - I would snap that up. Any chance that will happen soon.

While it's more than the 500GB Momentus XT if you really want the speed of an SSD and the capacity of a SATA drive it's a much more worthwhile investment to go this strategy. The drawback, however, is you lose your optical drive. It's just another option.

Problem accessing hard drive for more than one user at the same time

I recently bought a 2nd generation AirPort Extreeme 802.11n to replace a cheapo wireless router. The main reason I wanted to get the AirPort was so I could attach a USB hard drive which holds iTunes music files Originaly I had a G4 MDD and this was a second internal hard drive. Since my wife and son also share my Mac, we stored the iTunes music folder there, so we could all access the files. That worked fine.
Then I got a early 2009 iMac and gave my wife the G4. My son also has a G3 iBook, using the wireless internet conection. At first I had the drive in an external case attached via Firewire. Both my iMac and my wife's G4 are attached to the network using ethernet, not wireless. She was able to access the music files so long as my Mac was on, but the connection was flaky.
So as mentioned, I picked up a used AirPort Extreme from OWC, mainly to attach the hard drive, since it's no longer in my Mac. It took some fiddling, and I was honestly surpsied that the APE was trickier to set up than expected, but now I have the external drive mounting, and we can all access the files from any of the Macs in the house. It works great except for one thing. If I'm logged into my iMac, and then another family member logs in on the same iMac, we don't all have access to the hard drive. It's still mounted, but the you have no permission to view the files on it.
Then if I remount it, I can access the files, but now the other user can't.
So in a nutshell, only one user can access the drive at the same time from the iMac, but we can all access it from different Macs.
Anyone have an idea of why this is happening and how to remidy it?

Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.

Enabling Time Maachine to back-up more than one drive

My 1TB Time Machine is setup as my Ethernet hub and it backs up my main drive flawlessly. I am not using the Airport feature. I need Time Machine to back up a second internal drive which contains all of my pictures and tunes. Apple Support could not tell me how to do this other than to refer me to two second party software products, Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner. So far, their websites have not been particularly helpful. Any suggestions?

I've got 4 internal drives (2 on main cable, 2 connected to a SATA card for >128 MB capacity drives). When I first set up Time Machine to backup my disks, it was planning on backing up all 4 drives, judging by the amount of GB it wanted to backup. Since I was using one of those drives as a backup already (with deva vu), I didn't want/need to back that one up. There's an option to NOT include certain drives in the Time Machine / Time Capsule backup process.
Check the amount of disk space used on all your drives and compare it to the amount that Time Machine says it plans to backup. I think by default it backs up all connected drives.
Hopefully this helps, sorry if the instructions are a little vague, I'm not at home right now, so am not entirely sure what the <exclude> button was actually called.

Multiple Backups to more than one drive

I tried to find the answer to this here but hopefully someone can help me:
I have 4 external drives and i want TM to backup drive1 to drive2 and drive3 to drive4 - because the largest drive cant backup drive1+2 together.
What is the solution? Only a raid system for TM?

TM can only have one destination drive. you can RAID the backup drives but also keep in mind that TM drive should be at least twice as big as the total amount of data you are backing up. that's needed for overhead free space that TM requires and to accommodate incremental backups. if you don't have that don't use TM. use some other backup tool like CCCloner or superduper. they allow multiple destination drives. or you can use TM for one drive and something else for the other. also see this post for more backup options

You can use only one drive at a time as a TM backup destination, though you can switch among as many drives as you like. They'll all back up the same set of files, unless you keep changing your exclusion list (which I wouldn't recommend.)
