Remap Home / PgUP / PgDwn / End Key Commands?

Hey I'm having a problem with Dreamweaver CS3. I am using a
MacBook running OSX 10.5.3, and in order to use Home, End, Page Up
and Page Down in Dreamweaver, I have to hit a combination of Fn,
Cmd and one of the Arrow keys, each corresponding to one of the
commands above.
The problem is, I have Fn mapped to use Expose / Spaces, and
its really important to how I manage my windows and applications.
In other applications, I don't have to use this tricky sticky 3-key
combo to go to the top or bottom of my long CSS document or HTML
page. As of right now, I have to scroll all the way back to the top
or bottom. I know, oh, poor me! But hey, it is becoming a colossal
time waster as the docs I'm building get longer and longer.
Is there anyway I can remap this function in Dreamweaver,
instead of in OSX which would compromise my highly ingrained and
functioning workflow? I have looked throughout the Keyboard
Shortcuts and Preferences menus and haven't had any luck so far. Do
any of you Dreamweaver Geniuses out there have a cure for this?
Many thanks in advance.

  • Remap PGUP/Home and PGDN/End keys using Steelseries Engine

I just got an MS60 Ghost Pro.  I didn't pay attention to it before I bought it, but the document location keys are all lumped together.  I use this laptop for work and play, so having to push extra keys to use Home and End is extremely awkward.
Is there a way to remap the PGUP key so it just does Home, and the PGDN key just does End using the Steelseries Engine?  Ideally, I'd like to switch the mapping so PGUP does Home and Fn + PGUP does Page Up.  I tried to do it with a macro and it kept saying "Reserved."  Has anyone else dealt with this issue?  Couldn't find a quick answer through a Google search.  Thx.

To get what you need, you have to remap key function in two different keyboard layers and I do not think it would increase your work efficiency. You can set PGUP key as "home" in a layer and set PGUP key as its default in another layer and switch between layers when needed. OR you can assign another key as PGUP function and set PGUP key as home key in one layer which will be more efficient in my opinion, then you do not need to switch layers.
When you see "reserved" in keypreses column, you are one step left to complete the setup. Just goto Profiles at the left hand column and press save button.

I believe the thin film of your keyboard connector got loose and needs to be reseated. Either have this sorted out through the authorized service (especially if your notebook is still under warranty) or find somebody who is confident in following some easy guides (picture 5,6 and 7) from this link:

  • "Home" and "End" keys in FCP on MacBook Pro (2008/09)

I just started using my new MacBook Pro 17. While I was in FCP and tried to move the playhead to the "Home" position, I realized that my keyboard doesn't have a "Home" or an "End" key. What keys/functions do I need to use in this case? When I tried to look up the solution online, I found a forum in which someone suggested "Command/Arrow Key" (up for "Home" and "down for "End") but that didn't work.
    Thank you!

On my macbook pro hitting function (the "fn" key) and the left arrow works for home, and function and right works for end. My laptop is a few years old, but I'd assume it's still the case.

  • KYB probs: end/home/pgup/pgdn in mc/mutt etc. kbdoptions?

[ISSUE: on laptop home/PgUp/PgDn/End etc. don't do what's expected]
urxvt/screen running apps, with NumLk OFF the full numeric keypad on the laptop types:
    Home types: U
    End types: \
    PgUp types: Z
    PgDn types:  [
    Del types:  _
the other keys on the numeric keypad are wrong as well.
tried a few things and did a lot of searching.
Is this an xorg.conf thing?  xmodmap?
----------- text from earlier below ------------
Really enjoying mutt, mc and lots of things that run in screen.
I've read a lot of posts about xorg 1.6.1 though perhaps I can solve this quite easily with some
    xkboption stuff.
When I'm in mutt on another machine the PgDn and PgUp keys do what I would expect and the same with mc (all running in screen)
THOUGH on the asus laptop with it's full keyboard (seperate numeric on the right side) I get anything but wat I'd want/expect.
In mc they just type letters or numbers instead of doing page jumps like the page down key for example should do.
And in mutt the End key asks me what message I want to jump to, instead of going to end of emails as expected.
My xorg.conf can be autogenerated I don't think until hwd and other things get a tweak. They don't work or I haven't found what will yet.
So... as my xorg.conf is really bare (generated by nvidia by me) could anyone tell me what to try for xkboptions or whatever.
i've done my hour on the web looking, so here I am asking for a tip or two maybe.
    fun! thanks!

  • Where are Home and End keys for Numbers spreadsheet

I just bought a MBP 15 after spending my entire computer life with Windows.  I have a fairly sophisticated spreadsheet that I created in Excel that I now want to use in Numbers.  But I'm hung up on the simplest thing - Home & End.  I've read other postings here, but everyone else seems to indicate that there are already Home & End keys on the keyboard.  I have none - at least none that I can find.  I just have the standard MBP keyboard, including the F1-F12 function keys (plus fn, option, control, command, & arrows).  All of the key remapping posts talk about their use in text like a Safari e-mail.  For spreadsheets, Windows lets me take a formula in 1 cell, ctrl-c to copy it, then shift-end-down and ctrl-v to paste that new formula to the end of the existing column.  How is this done in the Mac world?  Very frustrating so far.  Any and all help appreciated.

  • Problem With Home And End keys

    Hi
I cleaned the keyboard of my ibook G4 about two days ago. The ibook was switched off at the time but now I can't seem to access the left (Home) and right (End) cursor keys (When pressed nothing happens).
The up (Pg Up) and down (Pg Dn) keys are working fine. I've obviously pressed a combination of keys that has resulted in turning off my Left and Right cursor keys. How on earth do I rectify what I've done. I've looked in my G4 manual but to no avail. If somebody can help me that would be terrific.
    Many thanks
    L.

zsh unfortunately doesn't read /etc/inputrc, which tells the shell what commands sent by the terminal emulator mean.
add the following to your .zshrc, and you should be fine.
    # key bindings
    bindkey "e[1~" beginning-of-line
    bindkey "e[4~" end-of-line
    bindkey "e[5~" beginning-of-history

    bindkey "e[8~" end-of-line
    bindkey "e[7~" beginning-of-line
    # for non RH/Debian xterm, can't hurt for RH/DEbian xterm

    bindkey "eOF" end-of-line

    bindkey "e[H" beginning-of-line
    bindkey "e[F" end-of-line
    # completion in the middle of a line
    bindkey '^i' expand-or-complete-prefix
by the way, i've changed some of the keys. for instance, ctrl-left and ctrl-right move back and forward by whole words. default is alt i believe.

  • HOME & END KEY NOT FUNCTIONING IN FCP w MBP

My home and end key do not work on my MacBook Pro. However, on an extended keyboard on a G5 those keys transport you to the beginning and end of the timeline. Is there a way I can get them to work on my laptop? Thanks!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1G RAM, 500G LaCie HD

Isn't that because those keys don't exist on the laptop?
You can map those commands to any key you want. They keyboard layout is completely customizable. TOOLS>KEYBOARD LAYOUT>CUSTOMIZE.

  • Custom functionality for home and end keys?

I don't know anything about automate, but I was wondering if it's possible to do this:
I'm a former PC user and on PCs you could use the 'home' and 'end' keys to go to the beginning and end of one line (subsequently, you could hold shift + home/end to highlight from your current cursor position to the beginning or end of a line). This functionality is extremely helpful for text editing and programming. Luckily the versions of Word and Dreamweaver I have on mac do use this, but TextEdit, Flash, and others do not. Is there anyway to program this kind of functionality? And if so how? And why is basic functionality like this different program to program on macs? PC's were at least consistent. Thanks!

The Command and Option shortcuts will take some getting used to, but that will work. Thanks! an external text editor would be okay for some things, but not Flash ActionScripting within a flash file.
I just wish some of the more basic functions between mac and pc were the same. I think both platforms would have an easier time getting users to switch if they were a little more consistent and took some of the good features of each into consideration.

  • Windows equivalent "Home" and "End" keys?

Okay, if there was one keyboard shortcut I used in Windows all the time, it was Shift-Home or Shift-End to highlight an entire line quickly. Control-A and Control-B do something like that, but I can't use Shift at the same time to highlight. Is there anyway to change the function of "Home" and "End" so they don't go to the end of a paragraph, but rather to the end of the line? Is there another keyboard shortcut I can use to do this? Thanks!

    Hi, JAButler.
How keyboard shortcuts, such as those you cite, work are generally defined at the application level. Command-A, i.e. ⌘-A (not Control-A) is universally defined as "Select All."
I recommend consulting the Help for a given application to determine what keyboard shortcuts it defines.
For example, in my favorite text editor, Tex-Edit Plus, it defines the following keyboard shortcuts akin to what you describe:• Shift-arrow extends a selection.
    • Shift-option-left/right arrow extends the selection one word at a time.
    • Shift-command-left/right arrow extends the selection to the beginning/end of the line. However, in FileMaker Pro, another application I use often, one must useShift-Option-Command-left/right arrowto extend the selection to the beginning or end of the line vs "Shift-command-left/right arrow" in Tex-Edit.
General Information on Mac OS X Keyboard Shortcuts
    • An official list of Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts is found in "Mac OS X: Keyboard Shortcuts."
    • An important list of keyboard shortcuts for all Mac owners is: "Mac OS: Apple Pro Keyboard Shortcuts for Shut Down and Restart."
    • If you have an Intel-based Mac, see also "Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs.".
    • A popular list of Mac keyboard shortcuts is Dave's Picks Mac Keys.
    • Don't forget that Mac OS X's Help Viewer lists most of the keyboard shortcuts available. Just search for keyboard shortcuts in Help Viewer.

  • Mac Mini w/ Apple USB keyboard - question about home and end keys

I purchased a USB white Apple keyboard to go with my Mac mini.
My question concerns the home and end keys. When I put the cusor focus in a text field or text area, I would expect that hitting the home key would take me to the beginning of the line and hitting the end key would take me to the end of the line.
    That's not the case?
If a vertical scrollbar is used in the window, then the home key takes me to the top of the window and the end key takes me to the bottom of the window.
Please forgive me, I've been on a PC for the last 10+ years, so I thought I should ask.
What key or key combo moves you to the start and end of a text in a text field or text area?
    Thanks,

    923/3369
    Hi Todd,
Use the arrow keys with the command key (⌘):
command + left arrow -> beginning of the line
command + right arrow -> end of the line
command + arrow up -> beginning of the text
command + arrow down -> end of the text
Explore also the option key (⌥) possibilities, with the arrow keys:
    very handy too.
Yes, the Home, End, Pageup and Pagedown keys are for controlling the whole document, not the text itself.

  • Folders at Top in Finder and Home/End Keys

As a recently converted former Windows user, I'm trying to get comfortable with the the Mac way of doing things. A lot I like, but two things I'd like to change: the sorting of folders alphabetically in Finder (instead of appearing before the files) and the changed use of the Home and End keys in documents (in Windows they take you to the beginning and end of the line of text you're editing).
I've tried the modification to Finder in http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=208068 but can't get sufficient privileges to save the changes to the InfoPlist.strings file (and Mac support says that it can't be changed under any circumstances). I've completely struck out with the Home and End keys.
Is there any way to configure things the way I'd like?
    Brett

Well, Mac support might have valid reasons for telling you that the procedure is not supported, and that things may go subtly wrong in other parts of the system if you make that change. However, this change seems to be pretty innocuous, and it's something that's been bugging me for a while now (so I'm glad I read this thread . I don't recommend changing system configurations lightly, so please be careful if you do decide to do this.
I was able to generally follow the instructions and make the change, and it worked fine for me. However, I edited that file from the command line, which is a little different than written. Here's what I did:
    1. Open Terminal.
    2. From the Terminal, type
    cd /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/
    3. From the Terminal, type
    sudo vi InfoPlist.strings
    4. In the editor, change the line that says
    "Folder" = "Folder";
    to read
    "Folder" = "  Folder";
    5. Save the file.
Step #3 is what gives you the correct permissions to make the change.

  • Home/End keys do not work in FCE4

I'm on an Intel iMac with the iMac keyboard with numeric keypad, so I have dedicated Home and End keys, not the Fn keys. The keys work in other applications (such as this text box) but have no effect in FCE at all. Other keys, like alt-R to render and J, K, and L all work, just not Home and End ... so far.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tubbs

So I've done a lot of searching and found that people in other countries seem to have this issue a lot with FCP, but I find no mention of it with FCE. I'm in the US, btw, with US settings. In their cases the work around is to go into System Preferences->International and change the language to English before they launch FCP.
I tinkered with that and never could get it to work.
However, what I did find is that I apparently do have some sort foreign keyboard setting somewhere, because I appear to have some foreign mappings. My home and end key functionality is available as ctrl-home and ctrl-end. Further, zooming on the timeline does not work with the + and - keys unless I also hold command when I hit them. Weird.
I'd still love a legitimate solution if anyone can figure it out.

  • Home and End key?  Shorcut?

I'm new to the MacBook line, previously had a MBP, anyways, I am not seeing a Home/End key, does anyone know the keyboard shortcut to do these, I looked on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1343 but didn't see anything, thanks...

I'm also brand new to Macs, and lack of PgUp/PgDn/Home/End has been one of my major frustrations. But I'm learning new tricks every day! I find that not all keyboard shortcuts work the same way in all applications. E.g. Fcn-L/R arrow works in some, but not others. In Word, I just now(!) learned (learning by playing around) that Home is Fcn-Opt-UpArrow (End the same with - of course - the DownArrow), Fcn-Up/Fcn-Down is the equivalent to PgUp/PgDown. But these keys and key combos work somewhat differently in other applications. At first I was frustrated by not being able to do some things the way I'm used to, but gradually as I'm actually using the machine to do Real Work and play around a bit, I'm learning that for most things (still struggling with some other)there are slightly different but just at good ways to get the same things done.
