Remapping keys to be like a PC keyboard

I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard and works well. I use Citrix & MS's Remote Desktop a fair bit to login to WinTel machines.
One anoying thing is to map certain keys to be a PC equalivant. Primarily I would like to map the "Help" (or F14) key to be the PC keyboard equalivant of the "Insert" key. Does anyone know of any software to do this?
Thanks, Toni.

I have a similar request. I am so used to a PC having converted to a Mac here at home but still using a PC at work. I would like to have the navigation keys to be the same whether using a PC, Mac or Virtual PC (on the Mac). Specifically, I would like the "Home" and "End" keys to move the curser to the beginning and end of a line respectively (currently Word on the Mac does this). I would like the "Ctrl" for the cutting, copying, pasting (in combination with the x, c, & v) rather than the Command Key. Also, I need to have the Ctrl in combination with the left, right arrows to move the curser to the left & right a complete word. Of course I would like to be able to do this for every application. Any suggestions out there?
Thanks,
Bruce

  • Remap Key for Del Key

I have had the "nice GUI" (as other posts mention) opened. I wanted to get a Del key. I'm using MacBook Pro. How exactly I will do that? The keyboard layout on the GUI (Remap Key) is different from MacBook Pro keypads.
Can someone please outlay step by step instruction? It'd be great if I can remap the lower Enter key (next to right-hand Apple key) into real Del key (in Windows sense)
    Thanks!

does anyone know how to do this? i would like to get my right apple key to become a windows delete key, but the enter one would work too... i would really appreciate anyones help!

  • The volume keys on my Logitech K760 wireless keyboard do not work with my 2.3 GHz, Intel Core i5 Mac mini which runs Mac OS X 10.7.4. Anyone know how to correct this without having to re-code firmware?

My first post to the Apple Support Community so it looks like all I wanted to know is covered in the title. The research I have done led me to solutions that I am not comfortable trying for fear of irreparably damaging my keyboard and/or Mac mini. Does anyone have a simpler solution? Please? Hellooooo?
Just in case the title is too long to show, I have re-pasted here:

  • Remapping keys on tiger

    Hey Everyone
About a year ago I spilt water over the keyboard of my Macbook (running os x).
Ever since, the 'o' key has stopped working, and in order to type o's i have to either copy and paste an 'o' using the clipboard, or use a USB external keyboard. As 'o' is a vowel and used in most web addresses (.com, .org etc.) it makes using my mac a nightmare.
I was wondering if you know of a way to either get a new key fitted, or preferably (as I won't have to send away my precious Macbook) map a different key on my keyboard to the 'o' character?
I have tried various programs on the internet for remapping keys in os x, but most of them are designed to map shortcut keys/ key combinations only, for windows users moving to macs, and have found nothing as yet that can do the job.
Anyone know of a way to do this? Please help, it is driving me mad!
    Thanks
    Will

QuickKeys will, amongh other tricks, allow you to type any desired text on a chosen key combination (so for example alt-command-zero). However it is $80.
Or you may be able to do this in TypeIt4Me which is only $27.

and Fn + -> be End key like on my macbook keyboard
    thank you for answer

Easy, no need to be harsh. I might not be a Level 9  Discussions user, but I’ve been an Apple Technician for more than a decade now. So believe me, I know what I’m talking about. Be it OS X Server or emptying the Trash. But even I come here from time to time to learn from others. Well, back to topic and being a little more specific:
The 'My Info' setting always belongs to the first iCloud account you add to an iOS device. In this account you create at least 1 contact, the one you will be using for 'My Info'. You then do the same on your other iOS device using NOT the same iCloud account, of course. You only need to enable contacts syncing in iCloud preferences for these primary accounts. From here on you can use differing 'My Info' on your 2 iOS devices without a problem.
But you may know that you can use more than one iCloud account at a time. Only the primary one will offer all iCloud options like Photostream. But what they all offer is contacts, calendars, etc. So if you intend (and I did) to share these 2 between your devices you can add them using a second iCloud account to both of your iOS devices. This makes it 3 accounts all in all. You could even go further and add another one just for 'Find my iPhone' if you like.
I would’ve used the built-in sharing of Calendar.app instead, but Contacts.app does not (yet) offer sharing contacts with others. That’s why I went with the third iCloud account as a secondary account to both iOS devices.
Apple of course recommends using just one Apple ID for everything to make it easier. But in some scenarios this just won’t cut it, which is even described in one of their support documents.
I hope that now you have an idea what I’ve done…
    Good night
    Björn
PS: It would be nice if people did not insist on being right. They too can sometimes learn something!

  • How can I assign a function key on my IMAC's wired keyboard to enter my email address in documents or on internet forms?

I'm trying to set up my wired IMAC keyboard to create shortcuts to enter my email adresses into emails or into web forms.  I was able to do this when I was working with PCs but can't find direction on the process for the MAC.  There seems to be 7 unused Function Keys at the top of the keyboard that are srrving no apparent purpose so logic tells me they must be available for sutomization.
Please help. My fingers are tired...

I don't think you can with the standard Mac OS X tools / sys prefs..
You have to step into the realm of 3rd party key mapper tools.
      I'm reluctant to go there..
I'm happy being able to remap option to be my command key
using the standard System Preferences ->Keyboard..
but.. googling a bit shows some 3rd party tools..

  • I would like to force keyboard backlighting to stay on -- How?

    Hello,
I have pretty bad eyes and I would like to force keyboard backlighting to stay on--all the time, at the brightest level possible. I compute in low light conditions, but it seems that sometimes the brightness of the screen will cause backlighting to die and then it's hard to get it back on again.
I'm not a very experienced user with back-lit keyboards, but it's one of the features that I really would like to have on all the time (early a.m. and late at night).
When it decides to turn off, it seems the F8, F9 and F10 keys really have no effect...
I'm virtually always plugged in, so power is not an issue.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks, I'll look that over and maybe give it a try.
Yeah, definitely give it a spin. I downloaded it and it's pretty slick. I'll definitely be using it when I'm at work. I sit next to a TV monitor and in the afternoon, as the room darkens, the keyboard on my PowerBook goes on and off as the brightness of the TV monitor changes.
Odd that you'd have to go elsewhere to get this kind
of functionality, but I guess that's why someone's
    writing that kind of thing.
Perhaps it never occurred to Apple that someone would want to force the backlight to stay on. Or they kind of got caught up in the coolness of using the sensor to control the light, they didn't think of just bypassing it.
Sometimes the hardest things to see are also the most obvious. Back in June, I read the same article by Amit Singh that Alex says helped him, and even played around with some of the code. But until you posted your question, it didn't occur to me to put that code to practical use. I came across Alex's program because I was thinking that you had given me a good idea for a programming project and I was checking to see if anyone else had done it.

  • Remapping § ± key to the ~ key?

I've just bought a 15" MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz (Core 2 Duo) sold locally here in Kuwait. I'm assuming that it has a European keyboard (with Arabic imprinted on top of it). The tilde key ~ is to the right of the left shift key, and the key to the left of the 1 is §± whatever that is. Problem is I'm used to using the tilde key to the left of the 1 key for switching between different windows. If I change the default keyboard layout from US English to Logitech U.S. Intl I can type the ~ using the key to the left of the 1 key but it still won't use it for switching between windows (I have to use the key to the right of the left shift key). My external Apple Bluetooth keyboard works fine, it's just the built-in keyboard that's giving me trouble. Is there any way I can change this?
    Thanks.
15" MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz (Core 2 Duo)
    Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can use a custom .keylayout file to remap the key.
    Create it using:
    http://wordherd.com/keyboards/ (web app)
    http://osx.iusethis.com/app/ukelele (mac app)
I used the Word Herd approach to create my UK.keylayout file:

  • [solved] remap keys in pager less

    Hi,
less seems to be the most common pager for cli and is very convenient, as it has vim-keybindings for movement.
However, I changed my keyboard layout, so that j and k are no longer lying at their querty-Positions.
Is there a way to remap keys in less or do I have to modify the sourcecode and build it on my own?
    Thanks in advance!

  • [BB Q10] We missed the shortcut key on BBOS with physical qwerty keyboard!

    Dear Development Team,
On behalf of a lot of BBer in Vietnam and all over the world, I'd like to ask you to bring the home screen shortcuts features from BBOS to BB10.
Especially for Blackberry Q10, the more using Q10, the more we miss the shortcuts on BBOS, should we come back to BB which loaded by BBOS???
I missed the key A,K: to lock the keyboard, screen.
I missed the key P, C: to enter to phone or contact.
I missed the key U: to start calculator.
I missed the key L: to go to calendar.
I missed the key D, T: to make a memo and task.
I missed the key N: go to BBM
And I missed more and more them all while using Q10. Why don't you just bring it back on BB10?
Once again, We strongly, absolutely, definitely suggest you to bring it back on BB10 before we change our mind.
    Thank for listening.
    Love you.

yes. I really miss homescreen shorcuts. It's the most reason why i chose blackberry for myself. Please bring it come to us.. thank you

  • FN key not working on Apple Wireless Keyboard

EDIT: Found the culprit: USB Overdrive was taking over the external keyboard. After disabling USB Overdrive for the keyboard, the FN key started working again.
I have Macbook Air (Mid 2013) connected to a Cinema Display and Apple Wireless Keyboard. MBA is running the latest Yosemite (10.10).
I tried using FN + Delete on the wireless keyboard to forward delete but it didn't work, it just deleted. I tried other keyboard shortcuts that require the use of FN key, and none of them work either. But when I try these directly on the MBA's keyboard, the FN key works perfectly there, just not on the wireless keyboard.
I've removed the bluetooth keyboard and tried reconnecting, restarting computer, login out and back in. Nothing works. Anyone have any ideas?

I disabled "Any Keyboard, Any Application" and "Any Other, Any Application" but I still could not use my Fn key on my Apple Wireless Keyboard. Uninstalling (removing the driver) restored Fn key functionality. In addition downgrading from 3.1 to 3.0.2 on Yosemite also solved this issue.
Did you actually try what you wrote?
I should also note that the Fn key on my rMBP's internal keyboard works with 3.1, oddly enough, but the Apple Wireless Keyboard's Fn key does not.

  • The function of the F keys at the top of my keyboard no longer work as they used to. How do I restore their old function?

The function of the F keys at the top of my keyboard no longer work as they used to. The actions they do no longer correspond to the symbols that are printed on them. For example, the volume buttons no longer control volume and now change the display to full-screen instead, and the brightness buttons don't do anything at all.
This started today and I'm finding it very irritating. I checked in System Preferences and didn't find any obvious way to turn most of them back to what they used to do.
    Help?

In System Preferences > Keyboard uncheck Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys.

  • Can logic express slow down or change the key from playbacks like the program "Amazing slowdowner"?r

    Hello,
I'm a new member and I'm actually trying to work with garage band to record voice and playback. Can "logic express" Vs. 8.0 slow down or change the key from playbacks like the program "Amazing slowdowner"? This is a programm wich costs 50 US Dollar and I want to decide if i buy it or not.
What is the hgreatest different between "garage band" and logic express 8.0? Who can hepl me, which is the right thing for me. I find it difficult to find out which effects are the best only to record my voice with playback.
    Thanks for your advices.

If you want to slow down the audio why not download a program from ABRSM called Speedshifter- its free and is very good.  you could export the audio from Logic and open the MP3 file with speed shifter. I think speedshifter  may also  have the ability to alter the pitch as well. I use it for Flute practice- its very useful !
