Remediation and Previous Content Slides

The way our team sets up our tutorials is that we disperse quiz slides throughout and set the quiz to jump to a slide if the question is missed.  Then when the content slide is viewed, the learner is taken back to the quiz.  Our remediation works....the issue we have is if we enable navigation for visited slides only, and some goes back and comes back to a quiz question, they get "stuck" on the quiz.  Is there a way to avoid this?

Using Captivate 7
We hide the results slides for these

Hi
After some investigation I think I understood how to use the clear cache options in column links. What was confusing me is that I am using a "URL" as target in my link and not a "page in the application".
When you use a URL as target you do not have the option to clear the cache as you have when using a page. BTW my target URL is a javascript: code to open a popup window.
How to clear the cache of a specific page in this scenario? This would help me.
Thanks
Luis

  • Remediate to content slide; return to question; then continue on - using Captivate 8

Using Captivate 8, I’m trying to remediate from a Knowledge Check question slide back to a content slide, then back to the KC question to try again, and then continue on from there.  On my first instance, this works fine.  However, the problems began on the second instance and continue on each instance thereafter. The settings on the KC question slides are all the same with the exception of which slide each jumps to for remediation.  I don't understand why it works the first time, but doesn’t work after that. On the second instance the question jumps back to the content slide, but then skips any subsequent slides.   Anyone had a similar experience?  Know of a workaround or what I might be doing wrong?
FYI, I'm using he E-Learning Uncovered Adobe Captivate 8 book by Elkins, Pinder, and Slade as a reference, and it clearly describes how to do this on page 183, "Remediation back to Content Slides - If students get a question wrong, you can branch back to one or several slides where the content was taught and then return them back to the quiz to retry the question.  To add remediation branching:  1) in the last attempt field on the question, set a Jump to Slide action to the first slide with the content.  2) On the last slide with the content, add a return to Quiz action on the slide's next button.  On the content slide, the Next button with the Return to Quiz action executes a Continue action under normal circumstances, but returns students to the quiz if that's where they came from."
    Please see content map below:

Slide 11 – Content (here’s the first problem; on click, slide 11 jumps to the Knowledge Check Question on Slide 13, skipping slide 12)
    Slide 12 – Content
Slide 13 – Knowledge Check Question that remediates back to slide 11 if user misses on 2 attempts to answer; slide 11 should return user here for one last try at question, then advance to Slide 14

I've tried contacting Adobe, too, but with no clear resolution yet.  One suggestion they gave me was to put the slide you are remediating back to right before the question slide.  However, if you can only remediate back to the slide immediately before the question slide, that limits this functionality severely.  My solution has been to remediate to a duplicate, but separate content slide using buttons rather than quiz logic.  Cumbersome, but it works.

created by camelothome in Quizzing/LMS - View the full discussionI have the same problem with my project.  If the player detects that a quiz has begun, it sees it as in quiz scope.  Thus, when it encounters the next slide after the quiz slides that has "Return to Quiz" as the Exit Action, it instead goes to the next set of quiz questions and skips a bunch of content slides. I don't know where I read it, but I thought that if the slide was being visited for the first time, and did not come from a quiz, the "Return to Quiz" would have no effect and it would continue to the next content slide.  Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought that was the correct behavior. I've attempted to get help from Adobe, but the operator was not very helpful.  He wanted me to upload my file using wetransfer.com but gave me an invalid e-mail address.  Since that was the second attempt to get help, I gave up on Adobe Support.  Although I get the suggest above, it's a pain, especially since I don't have buttons on the content slides.  I have the player just playing with the playbar available for pauses.  So, now I have to create some sort of workaround using variables, but I don't think this is how it's supposed to work.  In fact, I'm not sure what I did yesterday that caused it to work correctly for a while, but I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything related to this.  Of course, then it stopped working. I find Adobe Captivate to be pretty buggy and it's put me way behind in delivering a product to my client.  I'm very frustrated. Can I insert pretest questions as knowledge checks between content slides and before a graded quiz without affecting the scoring of the graded quiz? Help documentation states that they should be used before a course begins.
If I use both pretest questions and graded questions, can I also include remedial with return to quiz for both?

Sorry, but I gave two workarounds: my preference is custom question slides, but you can also have questions slides where you do not add the score to the Total score. They will not be reported to the LMS and can act as Knowledge slides. Only some quizzing system variables can count all question slides, including the Knowledge slides, but the core variables (score, maximum score, percentage) will be correct. Here some links to my blog, that could help you:
System variables in Captivate 8 - Captivate blog
Intermediate Score Slides - Captivate blog
That each SCORM module can have only one quiz is a SCORM requirement, not a a Captivate specific feature. Camtasia is bit difficult to compare, it is not a fully blown authoring tool although the best video screen capture tool around (video is non interactive by definition). I don't use Storyline, but cannot imagine that they shouldn't create SCORM-compliant files.

  • What can I do simply  to keep all my previous contents, (own pics, videos, etc.) on my previously authorized iPad on PC, but get a new authorisation and a right syncronization, without data loss with a new  iTunes on my new Mac?

    Friends,
I already had an iPad(1) and its full contents (not only the purchased items, applications from Apple, but my all own pics, videos, songs etc.) is normally syncronized with an authorized PC (Windows) computer.
Now,  I've bought a new MacBook Air computer, and want to sell my PC. But I don't know how to transfer (or syncronize) all of the contents from my previous iTunes on PC to the new one on the Mac.
When I connected my iPad to my new MacBook Air, I promted, if I want to change authorization of my iPad to the MacBook.
But also got a warning, that the new iTunes will delete from my iPad all my previously syncronized items, pics, videos and music, with the previously authorized  iTunes on the previous computer, expect the saved pics from the net.
What can I do just like that, simply  to keep all my previous contents on my iPad, but have a new authorisation and a right syncronization, without data loss with the new  iTunes on my new Mac?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

Here are some instructions that I have posted several times that may be helpful to you as they have been to others. You can simply ignore anything that does not apply or that you have already done.
As Alan stated above - transferring the iTunes library is the best first step. If you can transfer the iTunes library to the Mac, most of this will be unecessary for you to do.
    Very Important ....
    1. Authorize the computer.
    2. Turn off auto sync in iTunes
    3. Transfer purchases
The text in italics is from the other thread - non italics are my words.
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your new computer, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your computer and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your computer, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your computer. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

This support site will help you with transferring iTunes music to your new computer.

One final note - you may want to leave auto sync turned off - but that is totally up to you. I never did use auto sync.

  • Next and Previous slide from Flash Menu

We are currently tasked with updating SAP training that was
created with OnDemand software. The current simulations have a
Javascript menu on each screen which provides various functions
including moving from current slide to next or previous slides.
When the existing movie is played and captured, we lose the
    javascript menu functionality.
I have created a Flash Menu and have imported it to the newly
captured Captivate movie. All links on the menu work except Next
    Slide and Previous slide.
The script I use for the button for the Next slide is as
    follows:
    this.next_btn.onRelease =function(){
    this._parent._parent..nextFrame();
Also I have tried substituting for nextFrame "play" and for
the target path "_root" for the first "_parent."
The variables "rdcmndNextFrame" and "rdcmndPrevious" do not
work unless you are using a playback bar, which detracts from the
    simulation.
Has anyone ever created this type of functionality? It seems
that it would be straight forward. It is most likely a target path
issue. The captivate movie is the container for the flash menu. To
access the captivate movie timeline and move to the next or
previous slide is what I really need.
    Help!

I resolved the issue by selecting to use a playback bar and
then in the Flash file setting the visibility of the playback bar
    to "0".

  • Captivate 4 - unable to bookmark content slides with a Quiz and maintain Incomplete status

When creating a presentation that has content slides before a quiz the Captivate content is recorded as Failed when exited early in the LMS.
I am trying to allow the user to view content pages that bookmark when they ahve to exit the course. This should set a status of Incomplete which will allow the user to return to the last page (slide) viewed and continue. Once all slides are viewed they are then presented with a Quiz that requires an 80% to pass.
I have tried the reporting setting "quiz results and slide views" in Captivate but if I exit on any content slide it is recorded as Failed with a 0 score. The LMS I am using is OutStart Evolution.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    surf_easy922,
As discussed privately - you needed to click the "continue" button at the Quiz Results screen, in order to successfully complete the content in the LMS.  There are a number of options that you can employ to resolve this:
    - Change settings in the Quiz Manager to "Quiz Results, only"
    - Remove the Quiz Results screen and insert your own certificate
    - In this case (because of where the content originated) you should use Adobe Presenter
For building your own certificate - I have written an article on building your own Flash-based certificates for Adobe Presenter and Adobe Captivate.  The article can be found here:  http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/02/certificates/
I am in the process of revamping that article, because it is *very* technical and doesn't need to be.  I think a lot of people are confused (justly so) by the article and really how easy it is to use the template/sample certificates I've provided in the article for their own purposes.  While I am working on that update, here is a walkthough of how you can use any of the sample FLA's in the article, above for your own custom certificate:  http://www.learningconsulting.com/content/adobe/connect/CertificatesInCpPr/CertificatesInC pPr_customizing.htm
Finally, I think for your purposes and based on how you are building your content, you should look at the Adobe Presenter tool.  It is a PowerPoint plug-in that provides the same functionality that you have in your Captivate file (but you work within PowerPoint, so you do not need to import the PPT file - you work directly with it).  Captivate is an awesome tool and should be used for your simulations and more complex interactivity, but in this case Presenter is the more appropriate tool for your needs.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Andrew

  • I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same computer, against two different Apple IDs. When I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message?

I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same Windows 8 computer, and when I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message. Is it possible to have two different Apple IDs on the same computer?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

  • HELP! Files won't open and previously had Firefox icon instead of DW icons!  Leap Year thing?

Hi!  I went to update my website, which I do every night before the first day of every month and all the files had a FIrefox icon instead of the usual Dreamweaver one.  I have shut down, reinstalled DW MX 2004 but the files still do not open.  The icons have now changed to DW but they are not opening with right click, opening from Applications folder, double clicking the file, from get info and open with DW.  I am stumped. HELP!  Need to update for March 1st.
Is it something to do with Leap Year 29th Feb?  Checked the clock in preferences but can't see how this affects it.
Firefox is always updated but the latest version does not seem to be as efficient as previous upgrades.  We installed Chrome as well.  Do they interfere with each other?

    Hi Ken
I wish the 7.1 updater download had helped but it didn¹t.  All the files
were backed up before the installation, which went fine.
    Mac 10.5.8
We used Disc Warrior to defrag the hard drive, which did not make a
    difference.
We recently started using Chrome, so now have 3 browsers in the dock,
Safari, Firefox and Chrome.  Do they interfere in any way with each other?
The files, which I hadn¹t touched for a month as I update on a monthly
basis, initially had the Firefox icon.

    Mac OS 10.5 /
I deleted the " Private" folder ... and emptied the trash. So the folder and its contents no longer exists on my computer at all !!!
I do have the OS 10.5 dvd that i purchased years ago...
But my computer will not start from it on its own.
My question is what is the open source or terminal language code used to tell my mac to look in the DVD rom drive for startup info?  I know that im not the only person in this world who has deleted the "PRIVATE" folder and emptied the trash so it no longer exists on their machine...
That said theres gotta be a common fix for a Power PC G4 that has the OS X dvd in the rom drive but wont look to it to reinstall the vital contents of the PRIVATE folder.
Once again there is not a copy of this file or its contents in the recycle bin...
Also rebooting the machine , pressing and holding the letter C does not prompt the machine to look to the dvd rom drive.
I was reinstalling pro tools and figured I would make some room by cleaning my computers HD...
Lol It was a bad choice to delete this file ...
    Thanks guys

Okay sorry it took forever to respond... But for a while there I gave up on this computer!!!!
Money's been tight lately , so taking it in to a professional was not yet an option... though I did consider it eventhough.
Anyway long story short im glad I didnt spend any money because I already had all the tools necessary to fix this issue but was going about it in the wrong way. Okay so here is my scenario and the breakdown... Though this may not fix the issue for everyone :( which *****... But I know we all will have different circumstances.
    Anyway here we go...
Okay so first things first....  Years ago I purchased the OS 10.5.1 disk ... So that has always been in my possession!!!!
I realize that some may not have a disk to reflash your OS to your hard drive... but if you do your in luck.
2ndly ... I had an external harddrive with all of my itunes downloaded music so it was more than okay with me to delete my primary HD because all the important stuff could either be copied over or repathed to be located.
-------If you dont want to read through the whole story the fix is summed up in the bottom section-------
    Okay so now the SOLUTION!!!!
By trial and error , and pure boredom I opened up my computer to clean the inside...
    AND
    "Disconnected the primary HD"
and just because ....... REBOOTED my computer. Just to see what it would do.
Upon restart and though it looked like it would repeat its usual cycle...
About 1 minute in to that process my computer froze for about 2 seconds and flashed to the OS installation screen.
Mind you I havent seen this screen yet... Probably hasnt been since I installed the OS years ago.
After a bit of trial and error...
I decided to tell my computer to startup from the OS 10.5 disk located in my dvd rom drive and restarted once again...
    this setting is under
    Utilities / startup disk
After a little more trial and error ... I realized that I could reconnect the primary HD , restart the machine and return to the OS installation menu.
    So upon this discovery
I went to the Disk Utility located under Utilities
Highlighted my primary HD located in the left hand column
    Once highlighted ...
In the heading section on the right I selected the option
    Erase
in which I erased My current OS on my primary HD ...
I used the first option in the list under security... Because it seemed like the least invasive and would take the least amount of time to see if this process would actually work.
    I FORGOT to add something...
Another reason why I deleted my primary HD!!!!!
I forgot to say that it WOULD NOT!!!!! Show up in the STARTUP list as an option...Even After multiple reboots....
But like clockwork... Once I deleted its name IT SHOWED UP as an option!!!!
So back to the next step...
I returned to the STARTUP option under utilities ... And was then able to see MY primary HD now as a startup option...
But ofcourse it had no name because it we previously erased it.
So when Clicking my newly erased HD ... I was almost immediately prompted to REINSTALL the OS ...
Which said it would take about 57 minutes ... But I believe was alot less...
My issue was resolved ... My computer then stated the install was SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!! :))))))))))) lol ;)
It was like I was setting up for the first time ;) asking for my registration info...
The dilemma of deleting the private folder and emptying the trash is finally over resolved. Done ... and no extra money spent!!!!!!!!!
Its really crazy that the information for such a simple thing is not readily available. Especially being such a simple fix.
I know im not the only person who's had this issue , because i've seen numerous posts with similar wording.
I also know I wont be the last person to have this issue... So I hope this synopsis makes sense.
    -------One more time the fix------
*Insert your OS dvd into your dvd rom drive.
*Unplug your primary HD or corrupted startup disk
    *Reboot your machine...
Upon restart your primary HD will not be recognized...
    * you will then be prompted to select your language.
    Once selected
*Click Utilities/startup... Highlight the the selection that refers to the OS dvd located in the dvd rom drive.
    * Click restart...
!!!!!!!!!!Be sure to reconnect your Primary HD Before your computer restarts and you hear the chime!!!!!!!!
If you do not replug your HD before the chime it will not be recognized.
    In that case restart again.
    Upon restart once again
    *Choose your language...
    *Click Utilities / disk utility
In the left column select and
    *Highlight your HD ...
Then towards the top portion / center of the page
    *Click the heading Erase
Then on the page toward the bottom
    *Click security options
This will then provide erase options.
    I USED THE FIRST OPTION
    "Dont erase data"...
    *click OK
    * click erase...
Once erased which should take a few seconds
    *Cancel the disk utility...
    * Click Utilities / startup
And your newly erased HD should now appear in the list.
    * Select your drive from the list by highlighting
It should no longer have a name.
*Once selected, you will then be prompted to restart and install the OS to your newly erased HD...
    Thats it!!!!
Once everything reinstalls re-add your personal info or registration info and you are up and running.
    Goodluck ;)

Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
To get all your content off your connect your iPad to your new computer.
Then use a 3rd party piece of software to transfer your content
I have found Senuti useful but there are others listed in the article I linked to in a previous post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
That will let you transfer your non purchased content
For Purchased content log in to iTunes on the new computer
In Itunes Store click on Purchased under the Quick Links section on the right.
Download any music by clicking on the cloud button

  • Next and Previous Buttons, n00b edition

OK, I am trying to construct a "timeline" flash file, where
basically you click either a next or previous button to move
through different frames, and I think I know how to do everything
other than the next and previous buttons. Two questions:
Would this be easier as AS2.0 or AS3.0?
If I use AS3, would this code work, and is "my_mc" simply the
name of the layer with the navigable frames?
    next_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,buttonPressed);
    prev_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,buttonPressedprev);
    function buttonPressed(event:MouseEvent){
    my_mc.nextFrame()
    function buttonPressedprev(event:MouseEvent){
    my_mc.prevFrame()
Sorry if this is confusing, I am such a n00b I don't even
know how to ask questions properly.

Sure, no worries. It's definitely dizzying at the beginning.

Google absolutely rocks, but I hear ya ... you have to be
    willing to
wade through numerous search results. Fortunately, the Help
    docs usually
get you directly to your answer -- and quickly, at that -- if
    you just know
how to navigate them. If you're using Flash CS3, the Help
    docs are local,
though optionally available online. If you're using Flash
    CS4, the docs are
online and open in a browser, in either case, what you're
    looking for
specifically is the ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference (if
    you're using
AS2) or the ActionScript 3.0 Language and Components
    reference (if you're
    using AS3).
    AS2:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS2LCR/Flash_10.0/help.html?content=Part2_AS2_LangRef_1.html
    AS3:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS3LCR/Flash_10.0/index.html
In the case of AS2, you'll click on the lefthand side. Open
    up
"ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference," then "ActionScript
    classes," and
you're in. In the case of AS3, you'll see the classes already
    listed on the
    lefthand side.
Now ... you've coded up your button, which means you
    consulted the
Button (AS2) or SimpleButton (AS3) class to see what was
    available to you.
(I'm speaking hypothetically, of course. When you've become
    more
comfortable with the docs, this will often describe your
    initial steps.)
You want to code up a button symbol, so that means you've
    looked up the
Events heading for the appropriate class to see what this
    object can react
to, such as a button click. You've found your event --
    onRelease or
MouseEvent.CLICK -- and have associated that event with a
    custom function.
Now, you're on to the next step. In this case, the object
    you're
looking for is no longer a button. It's a movie clip, because
    you want this
function to send the main timeline forward or backward.
    Again, your first
question is always: a) what object am I dealing with? Here,
    it's the
MovieClip class, so that's where you flip to. Your second
    question is: b)
what category am I looking for? If characteristics, look up
    Properties; if
something the object can do, look up Methods; if something
    the object can
react to, look up Events. In this case, you want to send the
    timeline
somewhere. That's something the timeline (that is, this
    particular movie
clip) can do. The things-an-object-can-do category is
    Methods, so that's
    where you flip to.
You'll see a decent selection in either language, including
    the common
gotoAndPlay(), gotoAndStop(), and so on. You'll also see
    nextFrame() and
prevFrame(). Bingo! (Note, both versions of the language rely
    on something
called inheritance, which behaves just like it sounds. Just
    as we humans
inherit traits from our predecessors, most classes inherit
    traits from other
classes up the family tree. In the AS3 docs, you'll see a
    "Show Inherited
Public Methdods [or Properties, or Events]" hyperlink. If you
    need more
detail, be sure to click that link. In the AS2 docs, the
    inherited items
are listed in a box beneath each heading. Any given class may
    or may not
    have inherited items.)
So you really don't have to wade too far. Think of what
    object you're
dealing with, then jump to the relevant category.
    > 2. How do I make the next and previous buttons the only

    automatically.
Movie clips (including the main timeline) just animate
    naturally -- they
*want* to move -- so if you want a timeline to stop, you have
    to instruct it
to. Here again, you'll look up the MovieClip class and,
    because you want to
find out how to *do* something (how to stop this movie clip),
    you'll jump to
the Methods section. Sure enough, there's a MovieClip.stop()
    method.
In frame 1 of your main timeline, simply type stop(), and
    that'll do it.
The reason it works is because you're invoking a MovieClip
    method on a
MovieClip instance -- the main timeline. If you wanted to
    stop a movie clip
symbol, you'd have to give it an instance name, then invoke
    the method on
    that particular instance, like this:
    myMovieClip.stop();
... in which case, myMovieClip is the instance name, and this
    clip happens
to site in the same timeline as this code appears.
Alternatively, you could enter the timeline of that movie
    clip and
simply put stop() in its own first frame. That would do it
    too. In either
case, you've invoked a MovieClip method on a particular movie
    clip. All you
ever need is an object reference (implicit, because you're in
    that object's
scope) or an instance name (or a variable that, by some other
    mechanism,
refers to a particular object) and then you're set. With that
    reference in
hand, you simply name the reference, put a dot, then invoke
    the desired
    property, method, or event.
In the case where you simply invoke stop() on the main
    timeline, you
*could* reference the main timeline directly, like this:
    this.stop();
The "this" keyword is a special reference that refers to
    whatever scope
its in. Because your code appears inside a keyframe, its
    scope is the movie
clip in which that keyframe appears, therefore "this" -- in
    that context --
refers to that movie clip. But as I showed earlier, you can
    also simply
leave off the prefix object reference because Flash will know
    what you mean
(that is, which movie clip you mean).
Eventually, when you're more comfortable, you'll reference
    instances of
other kinds of objects, such as sounds, text formatting
    objects, and more.
In those cases, your object reference -- an instance name, or
    a variable --
will act the same way, but you'll only be able to invoke
    functionality from
    the relevant class.
If you have Sound instance, for example, you couldn't do
    this:
    mySound.gotoAndPlay(15);
... because sounds don't have timelines, and the Sound
    class's Methods
section doesn't feature a gotoAndPlay() method. And that
    totally makes
    sense, right?
    > If you have a beginner's guide to actionscripting,
    focused
    > on AS3, I will buy it today.
I'm happy to keep answering your questions here, but yes, I
    do have a
few books you might be interested in. If you're using Flash
    CS3, you might
consider Tom Green's and my Foundation Flash CS3 for
    Designers (friends of
    ED) (
    http://tinyurl.com/2k29mj),
and if you're using Flash CS4, you'll want
the current version of that book (
    http://tinyurl.com/5j55cv).
    Bear in mind,
these are "foundation" books, so they cover all of Flash, not
    just
ActionScript. Still, there's tons of ActionScript in either
    one
(exclusively AS3, by happenstance), and we've received
    positive feedback on
the ActionScript Basics chapter, in particular.
I also recently finished an AS2-to-AS3 migration book for
    O'Reilly
    http://tinyurl.com/2s28a5),
but that one may not be especially useful for
you, because it focuses more on developers who have a basic
    understanding of
AS2 but feel bewildered when it comes to AS3.
There's also my blog, (quip.net/blog), which has tons of AS2
    stuff, and
is slowly growing new AS3 content. One of my co-authors for
    the O'Reilly
book, Rich Shupe, co-authored an ActionScript 3.0 book
    specifically for
beginners, so take a look, read the reviews, and see if the
    publisher offers
sample chapters. They often do, and that's usually a good
    indicator -- to
me, anyway -- of how a particular author's style gels (or
    doesn't gel) with
    your particular learning style.
